Are you a die-hard fan of any beauty brand?

Are you a die-hard fan of any beauty brand? Share!

I don’t know if I could use that term to describe myself in regards to any brand, not just beauty. I’m definitely loyal to some brands and a major fan of what they do, but I don’t know if I could say “die-hard.”

Thanks to Jessie for today’s question!

I agree with Christine in the sense that I’m loyal, but not a die-hard fan, to certain brands. I’m very loyal to Illamasqua – I own several of their foundation formulas, their lipsticks, lip glosses, blushers and ~20 nail polishes. The quality  is consistently of a high standard and I really like their packaging – I’m a packaging snob so the aesthetics play a large part in whether or not I re-purchase things. I draw the line between loyalty and die-hard fandom at what you’re willing to buy, i.e. I’m not going to buy something I don’t like purely because Illamasqua have made it.

If “die hard” means that you’re uncritical and tend to defend the brand no matter what, then absolutely not. If a brand puts out a stinker – and they all do, occasionally – I’m going to call it what it is. Doesn’t mean I don’t still love them overall, unless the stinkers become the rule. But I’m not going to fudge for them.

Yes!  Fyrinnae.  Their shadows are amazing.  There is no brand that can come close, especially their Arcane’s and dual colors.  I stalk their site regularly for new colors.

I think the only brands I am die hard for are nail polish brands. I love OPI, China Glaze, Orly, Essie and Butter London. I don’t really have any make-up brands that I am die hard for.

jeneyg Avatar

@misscheriamor I agree! Most of the time with these nail polish brands you can’t go wrong! I’d buy many of their stuff without looking at reviews beforehand because I know that it will work well.

I agree with you, Christine. There are so many rand brands out there, each with their own specialties, that it would be limiting to dedicate yourself to just one. There are definitely some I like more than others, even significantly, but no brand is impervious to fails.

I’m actually quite a fan of Paula Begoun and her line Paula’s Choice. Maybe not Bruce Willis crazy, but at least an avid supporter. Anyways, while I’ve stated multiple times that I don’t think that her line is anywhere near perfect, nor her information always accurate (I’ve written several articles that go against what she claims), I absolutely love her vision of genuinely informing the consumers about skin care, and clarifying many misunderstood concepts and products; and her willingness to respond to questions and take criticism gracefully. When I do routine reviews for other people on my site, I find that I have to make a conscious effort to recommend products from other lines because hers is so excellent: they are all filled with (again mostly) well-documented ingredients in efficacious concentrations. It’s hard not to just refer readers to her line as a default. I used to be really hesitant in recommending products from a singular line, but as I’ve read and analyzed more independent information physiologically, medically, and industrial-wise, I can’t deny that her products are well-priced and comparatively brilliant in formulation.

I definitely love some brands, and consider their products high quality. I also think that I find specific kinds of brand images approachable and appealing to me personally, but I would never purchase something simply because it belonged to a brand I like!

I’m a “die-hard” fan of BIODERMA. My dermatitis CANNOT be controlled without these products, however when it comes to make-up I’d definitely consider myself a “floater”. ^^

simone lymbery Avatar

i am not a die hard fan per say but i do show loyalty  to brands such as benefit and helen e because there products are good

Ani_BEE Avatar

To many fish in the sea to be a “die-hard” fan, although Inlgot is pretty close for me. But the same way I don’t fixate literature or media programing, as a costumer but you won’t see me do costumes every year from the same series I like to try new things. It the same with makeup.

@Nikki .. me too which is a shame because their eye primer in Eden is the only eye primer that actually works for me 😛 .. I’ll keep using it, but will keep an eye out for brands that don’t test on animals or allow other governments to test on animals.

I do gravitate to certain brands for certain products, but I am by no means a die hard fan of any brand.  I do not like when MUA’s try to push all their products on you when you are merely looking for one specific product from a given brand.  I believe that is why shops like Sephora are so incredibly successful.  No high pressure sales for any specific brand just aisle after aisle of temptation.  I do wish they covered more brands, but that is another topic entirely.

Nicola Lucie Avatar

I’m with you Christine! I seem to gravitate towards certain brands for certain beauty products. I love Urban Decay for eye products like their eyeshadows and 24/7 glide-on eyeliner pencils. I also love Benefit for highlighter/luminizer products! I’m not neccessarily a “die-hard” for a specific brand, just like certain brands for certain products. Each has their own strengths!

This question made me squirm sheepishly. lol.  YES, absolutely die-hard, obsessive NARS & Ole Henriksen fan.  That doesn’t mean I can’t be critical or that I won’t admit when an occasional product is less than stellar (though I do it while feeling like I’ve stabbed my best friend in the back). But no other brands make me as happy, giddy or feel on occasion like “I want them ALL.” Sometimes, when one of their packages shows up in the mail, it actually feels a little like Christmas. In fact, I’m starting to think I may need a little intervention when it comes to both brands. LOL.

I would love to be loyal to one brand .. that would mean all their products were to die for .. but nope, everyline has their good and bad products. If I had to chose though, I’d say that I’m really liking Tarte brand cosmetics – but still not a die hard fan.

lauramarie100 Avatar

I’m more loyal to product lines than brands like Nicola. I love Lorac eyeshadows, Urban Decay eyeshadows and 27/7 liners (still unhappy about the whole China thing, though, so I’m trying to figure that one out), Tarte blushes and powders, etc. I “collect” when I find a product range that I like. I’ve noticed that I get turned off if there are too many products in a line. It fizzles out the “collector” in me and makes me think they don’t know how to edit, and wonder if they make sure the quality extends to the full line.

Antigone Avatar

I love collecting items from many various brands but if i really had to chose it would be :
– DIOR for makeup
– LRP for skincare

Katelynn Avatar

I’m a pretty big fan of Urban Decay and Tarte, but I don’t buy everything they produce.  I’m pretty bad about buying all of Urban Decay’s eyeshadow sets (I recently had to forbid myself from buying any other eyeshadow as I always ignore it and use UD ;).  And I love love Tarte’s lipsurgence.  But I feel like each of these brands has their strengths and weaknesses, so I don’t know if I’m exactly a “die hard” fan 😉

Daniellenm30 Avatar

I’m definitely a die-hard fan of Mac and China Glaze. But that being said, I don’t buy everything that comes out in new collections, etc. And I do think Mac has its weaknesses, too (i.e. mascara).

Santacruz Celeste Avatar

Not really. I have products from everyone… I don’t discriminate because all have something special that others might not…

I have had great results with @Paula’sChoice. Except for makeup remover, I use her skin care line exclusively. For makeup, I use all kinds of brands from Rimmel to Chanel, with Laura Mercier my fave for matte eyeshadow, and a lot in between. For body care, I use a Paula’s Choice AHA body lotion and drugstore brand moisturizers.

Urban Decay, although I am quite disappointed in their recent decision to expand to China and forfeit their cruelty free certifications.

Ana Avatar

I used to loooove MAC but they are disappointing me with this non-stop baf quality LE collections! I like to try different things from all brands

Veronica Avatar

I’m not a die-hard buyer for any brands, but there are certain brands where I’ll pay rapt attention to the new releases because I love and expect quality for certain products.  NARS and Tarina Tarantino are probably my two big favorites as of late.

jeanthony Avatar

I can always count on a quality product from MUFE. I’ve had probably 20+ products from them, and all of them are high quality and definitely worth their retail price.

Kafka Avatar

Hm, I can post again (finally) but now I only see 2 comments from the blog, the FB stuff and no “50 more” button.  I could have sworn there were more than 2 blog posts when I read this thread earlier today. In fact, I thought I posted in it myself before Livefyre kicked me out and took away all my buttons.  Did I imagined it all?

Quinctia Avatar

Urban Decay, I honestly have had to institute a personal no-buy on any pressed shadow that isn’t made by them, because I won’t reach for anything else.

Gaiya Avatar

I wouldn’t say die-hard, but I am quite fond of sugarpill. Love the color payoff and blendability. Dior is a guilty indulgence. It’s not really amazingly better than other brands but makes me feel dainty lol.

Nikki Avatar

I tend to be loyal to particular types of product from certain brands. For instance:

Foundations: I only wear MUFE liquids. When I discovered them, I stopped buying foundations from any other brand.  Pure LOVE!

Blush: La Femme Blush on Rouge. I own expensive, limited edition blushes from other companies, but these are my absolute favorites so my others get almost no love now.  La Femme has a great color range, comes in a covenient palette, is pigmented, and lasts well.  Best of all, they are extremely affordable, so what’s not to love?!

Lipstick: MAC.  I give MAC a lot of grief, but their lipsticks are my favorites hands down!  I love the many different formulas and color ranges.  They don’t dry out my lips as other brands do.  I recently discovered their lipglasses (very late, I know), and they are quickly replacing my previous favorite glosses.  So pretty much, MAC has me covered in the lips department.

I think I buy the most “MAC” products.. they have new collections every week and I just can’t stop myself from popping by and taking a look.
urban decay wins for any eyeshadows.. ive tried many before, from tiny sets that have 2-4 eye shadows to big ones with like 50 colors, I tend to always go back to my Naked Palette and my Book of shadows 3.

I’m falling in love with Urban Decay, I’ve never bought anything from them I didn’t like.  I don’t understand the china thing, weren’t they doing that because they were finding it hard to produce cruelty free in the US?  Also Mac says they’re cruelty free, but they’re owned by Estee Lauder which is a notorious animal abusing company, so I’m a little confused?

emily Avatar

Sorry guys I read the article about Urban Decay’s decision, but I’m still not sure what that means?  Does it mean they are going to let China test their products on animals, that seems like that’s what they meant by it, which I am not a fan of.  And still, what of the MAC/ Estee Lauder thing?
