Have you ever attended a beauty event or conference?

I have! I’ve been to IMATS along with an event that Beautylish put on several years ago. I haven’t been to one in a very long time, though. I think they can be fun as long as you have a game plan for navigating the crowds or prioritizing what booths to hit first!

I haven’t, but they look fun! But at the same time, I’m not sure what I would get out of it as a beauty enthusiast and not someone who does makeup professionally. Basically, I don’t know if the ticket price would justify anything I’d take away from the event.

I second that exactly what Z saysI think the ticket price would be much more than what I would purchase not being a professional makeup artist of any kind but sure sounds fun if I could go with my daughter. Also, I wouldn’t want to zig zag through a huge, huge crowd to be barely able to approach or test out any counter.

I once went to a class sponsored by Kryolan in Chicago about how to do makeup on mature skin (this was when I still wanted to be a full-time professional makeup artist). It was a lot of fun, but I didn’t know I needed to bring someone to do the makeup on (duh!), so I probably didn’t get as much out of it as I could’ve. I’ve never been to one of these huge conventions/trade shows, though I’d really like to go someday.

The closest I’ve come is the VIB events at my local Sephora and a few of the fund raisers for women’s cancer that The Hudson’s Bay Company has – that’s a cause I really support and the VIB events are nice, with lots of freebies. I take my daughter and treat her to some of the things she wants and it’s a nice night together for both of us.

I went to a MUFE class at Sephora once. It was very professional and I learned so much, even so I thought I knew a lot. I would go in a heartbeat.

I was a guinea pig at a hair show once, thank god, no perms. It was a total riot, making my lank hair 80s big. Looked like a total fool, but the artists loved it. I went home, and a guy I saw dog walking in the dark said, ‘Oh, that’s what you look like!’ To which I replied, ‘Oh, no. I don’t look like this.’ He avoided me for the rest of life, lol. The older I get, the less I like big groups. I can’t even do one of the local Walmarts. I dislike things that I find perceptually confusing or excitedly busy. The only big shows I ever did with any regularity were Macworlds, back in the day. And I have zero social anxiety.

I went last year to a Makeup show in Orlando. I know is not as big like the event on NY or LA… but I had a blast on the show, I spent so much money. A lot discount on the makeup counter. I highly recommend it. I also attended the spring event at Nordstrom, it was amazing… you basically see a runway show and get a the opportunity to win prizes.. I would love to go one day to IMATS in NY.

Back in the 90s when I was in hairdressing school, I went to a few conventions. They were cool but nothing like what they have today. I dream about one year getting tickets to BeautyCon in NYC and going there. I think I would like going in LA better, but I’m on the East Coast, so NYC is a lot more likely.
