Do you tend to wear warmer or cooler-toned eye products?

I gravitate toward warmer colors overall, but I do enjoy some cooler-toned ones–usually purples, blues, teals, and taupes… I feel like I’m pretty much equal opportunity when it comes to eye makeup, though.

I think I tend toward cooler shades, though there are some warmer shades I like. I mostly use neutrals, leaving my lips for the fun colors. I don’t like super warm red-yellow-orange eyeshadow palettes on myself, but once in a while I like to use a pop of purple, blue, or green on my lids or as liner in combination with neutrals on the rest of my eyes.

Favorite palettes are UD Ultimate Basics (top row shades only), Tarte Amazonian Clay Mattes, UD Naked 3, and I just got Smashbox Petal Metal Cover Shot, so I’m still on a learning curve with it. Also love MAC Kid, Malt, Quarry, Satin Taupe, and Omega. So I guess in terms of cool/warm, my taste is all over the place between neutrals, mauves, taupes, and dusty rose. Actually, this question was harder to answer than I thought it would be when I started typing!!!

I’m cool-toned on my face but for some reason, warmer eyeshadow colors look better on me, whereas only cool lipstick colors work for me. I think it’s because I’ve got veining in my face, especially near my eyes, so that cool shadow colors accentuate that veining.

This is a tricky question for me to answer because I absolutely cannot wear the reds and oranges that are typified by the ABH Modern Renaissance palette and by so many others that have followed in its wake. But yet at the same time, I do like some warm browns and warmer shades – colours like MAC Twinks, Mulch, Tempting, Havana, etc., which definitely fall onto the warmer side of the spectrum, I would think. I love the original Naked palette (which some say is “warm”) and love Naked2 (which is cooler) but would never consider Naked3 (lots of pink tones). So, while I do gravitate toward cooler shades I guess I also like the “warmer” side of “cool”.

Cooler-toned. It does limit my selection by a lot, but I’ve resorted to accepting my fate after decluttering so many warm-toned eyeshadows and lipsticks; Warm-toned anything looks so awkward on me.

Olivia Avatar

I’m quite new to makeup but after getting the ABH Modern Renaissance, I came to the conclusion that I’m not a warm toned gal. I feel like there are more neutral tones that do get overlooked… Or maybe throw in one warm/cool color!

Overall, I tend to go with warm-tones, although I do use and love some cooler tone combos like greys, browns, and taupes. As an olive skin-tone with neutral undertones, cool tones can tend to look warm on me anyway. I avoid anything cool-toned blue like the plague!

Honestly I think I like neutral-warm. Urban Decay Buck is still my favorite brown for the crease. I love cool-toned golds and warm-toned pewters. I love taupes of all kinds. I prefer warm-tones greens/blues/purples But cool-toned golds/pinks/browns 😀

I really like warm colors and cool gem tones. Cool browns, taupe and grays look terrible on me. I am even rethinking orange and red leaning browns because I think they make my skin lean really red vs my more yellow undertone.

Warm, with neutral being ok sometimes; anything cooler is just not flattering. I do blues, grays and purples but has to be the warmer versions.

I use to be a straight up cool toned kind of gal. I have very cool undertones and always felt that cool toned shadows work best on me and that I just couldn’t pull of warm toned shades. Over the past few years as warm toned eye shadows, blushes and lipsticks have pretty much dominated the makeup world, I was forced to try some warm shadows if for no other reason than to be able to purchase new makeup. I think my forage into warm toned shadows also coincided with my daughter becoming interested in makeup and she is definitely a warmer toned kind of girl. She started helping me to learn just how to make warm tones work on me and was always encouraging me that I didn’t look terrible in them. I now have a tone of warm toned products and use them frequently with good effect. My heart still belongs to the cool tones though.

I love cooler toned colors! I am very cool-toned with brown hair and hazel eyes. Purple is my favortie color in general. I lve how it brings out certain tones in my hazel eyes. I also love mauve.

Helena Avatar

My undertone preferences are less like “warm tones vs cool tones,” and more like I prefer certain colors to be warm and others to be cool. I like blues that lean red, reds that lean blue, greens that are neutral-to-cool, etc. It also varies by where I’m wearing the color. Almost every color has a time and place, but I like certain versions of those colors better!

Mostly warmer shades of anything, including purples, teasl and greens. Because, even those have warm hues or undertones within their respective color families. When I wear neutral shades, I usually go warmer, even “warmer” taupes, ie; MAC Satin Taupe, UD YDK and Verve. Very cool shades just do NOT mesh very nicely with my coloring. They can dull down my blue-green eye color into an un-color color. Also, they’ll clash with my neutral, but olive skintone in a very unattractive way and emphasizing dark undereye circles even though I’ve concealed those suckers!

I tend to stick to more neutral or cool toned looks. Occasionally a warmer toned brown looks nice, but oranges and reds just look goofy on my skin tone.

CeeBee Avatar

Warmer, definitely for me. I love all the warm pinks, corals and golds, plus a really rich brown or a pop of yellow. I can wear the really deep reds and oranges but I usually pair them with beige and bronze – I’ve found a sunset eye just isn’t for me, as much as I have tried…

I do love cool smutty mauves, roses and taupes but I usually steer clear of blues, teals and most greens (even the olives, sadly) but though long experience, I know if I use solely cool tones for my eye makeup, people have a tendency to assume I’m tired. Having said that, I have just ordered the Fame palette from Colourpop and I’m pretty excited to try it out!

I wear more warm tones because they are more available, but I love both. I’m very neutral toned with only a slight bit of cool undertone, so I can really get away with things on both sides of the spectrum, especially on the eyes. I do think that warm tones provide more contrast to my face though, which I like because I feel it makes my features stand out more.

Ruby Avatar

My skin tone clashes madly with anything super warm (orange, red or reddish copper can look great on others but on me, yikes!), but I would say I tend towards neutrals, both warmish neutrals and coolish neutrals. Taupes, greys and khakis are my mainstay, but I also regularly use both warm browns/greens and cool lilacs.

Susan Nevling Avatar

My coloring is pretty neutral and my eyes are blue grey. I feel like most colors work for me and I play with them all. One caveat is that I stick to matted in my crease bc of age changes.

Gilad Avatar

My skin and hair are warm, so warm is what’s easiest to make work. Bright mattes are scary on me except in very small doses, so yeah, Modern R palette has misses for me despite the great formula. Maybe cuz it’s a small % of the face, eyes are the one place I can go cool – maybe helped out by blue eyes. So – teal, turquoise, greyed blues, greys, most greens and purples. Just about any color seems fine as liner. Red or orange eyes though….I’ve seen maybe 2 mua versions that looked good to me, both on brown-eyed models. Otherwise, I don’t get it.

Cheryl Avatar

I’m supposed to look good in warm tones because of strawberry hair and freckles but they look so warm they don’t look good so I I wear a lot of teal and blue and I think they look better and make me look alive.

Genevieve Avatar

Even though my general colouring is warm toned, I do gravitate towards cooler toned eyeshadows a lot – greys, taupes, smokey blues and greens. However I can wear warmer tones – so I do love some of my warmer toned neutral shades like in Naked 1. I love olive shades and muted golds too.
I definitely don’t suit the pinks, oranges, reds and bright purples at all.

Silvia Avatar

Warmer shades for sure! I’m pale so pale on pale makes me look like a desperate vampire. Lol! I sure have been having fun with the craze on warm shades bring it on! I also purchased some bright palettes but am afraid of trying them since so colorful but nudes irctoo light colors don’t do a thing for me.
Love! Love a warm palette!

Amalia Avatar

I wear often cool tone eye makeup that doesn’t suit me quite as good as warm toned eyeshadows. Although I love warm eyeshadows, like MAC Mulch, Handwritten,Haux, Fig1, Trax, Saddle, Sable, Cocoa and Plum Caviar Sticks, Burnished Copper crème eye colour, Guerlain Turandot quad, the old DIOR Beige Massai. Human is a weird creature.

I have NC20-25 skintone with yellow undertone. I wear neutral to warm shades most of the time (warm browns in the crease, champagne on the lid). But I dont like oranges, reds, berrys. I dont like the Anastasia modern r. palette.
I like cooler purples and the Naked 2 palette on me too.

Bonnie Avatar

I love to try them all, but my favorites are yellow and orange, so I guess if I haaaaad to pick, it would be warm. But I would hate to miss out on all the beautiful purple, pink, silver, even blue cooler tones.

For lips, though, it’s mostly cool tones. They make the teeth look whiter. The only exception is red. There I like a warm or brownish red. Cool cherry reds change color on my into a pinky corally weird color, so I need a warmer red.

For clothes, my faves are brown and black, so most looks go fine.
