How big is your dream palette?
How big is your dream palette? Quad (4 shades)? Five? Eight? Twenty? All one size so you can fit anything (a la Z palette)?
I actually really like Inglot’s 20-pan palettes–I feel like it’s plenty of product to take with you, and it does so in a way that doesn’t seem wasteful. Though, the palette itself is rather heavy.

I like quads and six-pans; but compact six pans, not something like UD’s new ones!
right now i really like any of the mac custom pallets. but i really want to create my perfect 4 shade pallet. i don’t really have a specific dream pallet though. i’d love any pallet! especially from mac or urban decay! =P
I don’t really make use of empty palettes. I am AWFUL at depotting. I also lack the patience. I suppose if I were to partake in palettes (other than premade ones), I would prefer something like the Z palettes.
I’m with Christine on this one. I think 20 shadows is enough to cover the basics (black, highlight, brows, blending color) and to give a few options in my preferred color ranges (neutral, gold, purple, blue, coral) so that there is a bit of variety in both color and texture. I found that despite all of the research I sunk into putting together my MAC 15, there were still a few things that were missing.
I like all plastic palletes by Sephora, they look cute. And textures are not bad. Also Nyx has the same. Frankly speaking, I like pallettes pnly as a gift to my precious friends:)
To me, anything smaller than, like, those Kat Von D eight pan palettes seems like the packaging is probably wasting space. Not that larger palettes can’t also be wastes of space (I’m looking at you, UD BoS IV waiting to be depotted), but the couple of four and six pan ones I’ve got just seem a bit extra bulky for what they are.
Just a tip – depotting the BoS is easy peasy… Just be careful when you get to the last one. I destroyed my favourite from BoS3 that way 🙁
I figured it’d be easier than the singles I’ve depotted, I just was waiting for a good time to do it all, since it’s a lot more pans to label and stick magnets on than when I did five single shadows. 🙂
The dream palette is the Sugar Pill press eyeshadows with the Hello Kitty logo which they had when Sugar Pill launched but was never sold.
i’d like a space-efficient 6-pan
if i have the naked 1 & 2 palette, and with 15 choice of mac eyeshadow in the 15 pro palette, i will very happy! <3 i will say "enough" … (yet)
I like the size of small z palettes: 9 colors fit in there and it’s still small enough to carry with me.
A trio or quad that I would use up evenly. A quint at most I think.
Yeah I agree – I simply have no need for any more than 4!
I agree, I loooove Inglot palettes! The 20s are heavy but manageable compared to the 40! I also love the multi palette you can put a powder, blush and 2 e/s… perfect for travel, and the heaviness does help limit breakage too.
My “dream” palette would probably be 6 pans (anything more is tough to toss into your purse or awkward for travelling and setting up on a hotel bathroom vanity) but I’d have 5 or 6 of them (or more!).
I love my Z Palettes! I have two of them, one black pro one (for my neutral colors) and one zebra print pro one (for my fun colors!)
No matter what I put here, it wouldn’t stay my dream pallette forever. One of the things that MAC Me Over taught me was that there will always be something new to excite me. I was pretty jaded and then I saw Outre’ and Carbonized….
My dream pallette would contain those colors and too many more to fit into anything currently on the market. I’m working with a local fabricator on something, though.
i think i like 4 pans the most.
Not that I have any, but I would love my own Inglot 20 Palette. Just get the shades of almost every basic shade colour. Mix and match it and your make-up will never look boring:)
Eve Pearl is the most travel friendly/ purse friendly and pigmented six-pans palette. But also expensive for it. For travel i use one Z-palette and put in my needed shades (including face powders) for a weekend. ^_^
I”m saving my penny’s on get a Rainbow palette from Inglot. It’s been close to a year since the pans came out and there has not been a opportunity to get a discount on them (each pan is $11CAN v.s. $7US)
And if you get the rainbow pans, you have 60 shades!
I think quints are adequate enough. I can’t see myself wearing more than 5 colors on my eye at a time.
I prefer a pallette with no more than about 15-20 shades, all within the same color family, as any more than that just gets too overwhelming; I’d rather just have a basic single, duo, or quad, if necessary, to supplement if needed. Of course, this requires multiple larger pallettes, but I don’t travel much. Even when I do travel, I just bring a larger neutral pallette & a few smaller ones with various colors. I really need to invest in a freestyle pallete, but I hate ordering anything online.
UD Naked palette is a good size for me, that’s what, 12 shades in thinner pans? Compact but with enough colors that I don’t have to repeat myself all the time.
I agree! I think the UD Naked Palettes are just the right size. I would love it if instead of those new bulky, wonky six pan customizable palettes they came out with, if UD made something customizable in the same size as the Naked palettes at approximately the same price point as the Naked palette(this is a DREAM palette though – if the 6 pan thing is over $100 to fill, I can’t imagine what they would charge for something the size of the Naked Palette!)
Has anyone ever dared to squish Guerlain Rouge G lipsticks into an empty palette!? I doubt I could resist if Guerlain ever sold that.
Any size of pallet which fits in my pouch.
I think the Naked Palette is a perfect palette to carry with you – it’s light, it has many different color options and it’s very fancy. 🙂
A 15 pan palette would be all I need for life. Enough for the days I want some color, and a nice selection of neutrals for every daywear. Add a 2 pan blush palette and six lip colors and I’m set.
I like the size of the Make Up For Ever eyeshadows because they’ve got a lot more product in them than most other eyeshadow pans, which makes them a greater value. I like the idea of a Z-Palette, just not so much the price. I think if I created my own brand, I would make sure to pre-include the information about the eyeshadow on the back of the pan and enclose the single eyeshadow with a magnet so depotting would be as simple as removing the pan and transferring it over to a larger palette. I like Urban Decay’s idea, but with SERIOUS refining. I like Inglot’s idea of a Freedom System, but I don’t like how permanent the eyeshadows become once you place them in order in your palette – removing them is a pain. I also don’t like Inglot’s closure system – the magnetic removable lid bothers me. I didn’t even really answer the question lol :p
I quite like the size of NYX 10 colours palette.
tiny, light and with lots of colours.
love 88 shadow palettes..
all the neutral shades for MAC!! about a million!
Six…five for shadows, one for a liner.
A Traincase! LOL.
I want all shades in all finishes!! That would be pretty big lol.
The size of the Urban Decay Vault!
Mac eyeshadow palettes
Too many to count!!! Preferably MAC!
