Spoiled by Wet ‘n’ Wild Designated Driver Nail Lacquer ($1.99 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a bright sunshine yellow with slight orange tones and a cream finish. I think the color is so appropriate for the upcoming summer season, but you will need to be a little patient. The polish has a tendency to pull if you do not wait for each coat to completely dry before putting on another coat. Some polishes are more forgiving in this aspect, but with this one, you’ll be waiting about five to ten minutes between coats before you can go for the second. The color coverage is nearly opaque in two coats, but you can see a hint of visible nail line. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so I think you should be able to do a third coat to get totally opaque color and help hide any application issues.

Yellows are known for being notoriously difficult to apply–it’s hard to find a really excellent yellow that doesn’t suffer from at least some streaking or lack of pigmentation. For instance, MAC Al Fredo and Deborah Lippmann Yellow Brick Road are both sheerer, more jelly-like yellows (and both are less orange-based compared to this shade). The best yellow I’ve come across has been Rescue Beauty Lounge Yellow Fever, which is just a little streaky on the initial coat, but the second coat goes on beautifully–it is very similar in color to Designated Driver except it does have subtle shimmer.

I actually used Designated Driver as one of the shades to test from this formula for wear, since I have never used this brand before.  I can’t really think of a formula that does chip on me, with the exception of matte polishes without a top coat, and Spoiled’s formula held up for a week with minor tip wear but no chipping.  Despite using a base coat, there was some very subtle staining after those seven days (not totally unexpected for a yellow hue).

I painted my nails with a lime green cream finish spoiled color, I can’t remember the name right now, for st pattys and my nails are still highlighter yellow!!! I kept the color on for about 5 days, but forgot to use a base coat. I tried soaking them in peroxide and that didn’t work. My aunt told me bleach but that sounds scary! Any tips?

Actually, mixing bleach with equal portions water and rubbing on a stained nail with a cotton ball or q-tip will work. It may take a few tries but it does.. We use hair color developer and bleach at school.. But I know not everyone buys developer.

Or white vinegar. I’ve heard that helps with naturally yellow nails. Plus, it couldn’t hurt. It’ll stink the high heavens, but it should work.

a tip with yellow is to lay down a white base cot. Yellow is on of the thinnest pigments (paint, enamels and shadows) naturally so it just hard to make it opaque for that reason as well.

I have this and its definitely a great color and decent formula considering the price. I also love mustard yellow :] But I cannot stand the brush for this, what did you think of the brush?

Julie Avatar

The brush hairs would splay, tangle, and almost curl once applying. I have other Spoiled colors that do not have this problem but “designated driver and “my button fell off” had these issues.

I’ve had the SAME issues with this brand, among others. The shade range is nice, the price point is nice, but that brush makes me want to scream. The fibers splay out, it’s entirely too thick/wide, and it’s almost like the fibers are overly thick and I get brushstrokes. I’ve tried a few colors from this line, and they are all disappointing. The brush is frustrating, and mine took too long to dry. I did pick up some of their glitters to use on the tips of my nails, since I don’t think the brush and dry time will be an issue for this particular use. I’ll stop rambling now, LOL.

ugh i hate the spoiled polishes, the creams are decent but the glitter polishes are horrendous they are thick and gloomy and gross
plush the brush is weird, if you look at the bottom it is circular, i don not enjoy them

I love these polishes. They kind of remind me of Sinful polishes (found at Walgreens). I picked up a TON of glitter polishes and a few duo chrome at CVS.

CVS is having a current promotion … Buy 2 and get 1 free. Each polish was $1.99 (plus tax where I live).

I did not pick up the yellow, as I have a couple of yellow polishes.

This is a great color to use with a glitter top coat like Sticks N Stones… I don’t have a yellow polish in my collection because I feel that it doesn’t really flatter my skintone, but I might consider this, since they’re on sale for 99 cents this week! It’s a purchase I can justify!
