Zoya Beach Collection

Zoya Beach Collection

Zoya’s Beach Collection will make its official debut on April 1st, and each shade retails for $8.00 for 0.50 oz. This collection features creamier shades, with the exception of one, which has shimmer. These shades include: Reagan (deep cerise pink cream), Lara (vivid cerise pink cream), Shelby (soft pinky pink cream), Arizona (soft coral orange cream), Tracie (sea glass metallic), and Wednesday (soft aqua cream). Surf features foil metallics (coming up next).

  • Reagan is a dark fuchsia pink with blue undertones. I used two coats for swatches, but it was almost opaque in one. MAC Toco Toucan is pinker, less fuchsia. OCC Palare is a little lighter and has shimmer. Essie Super Bossa Nova is redder, darker, and shimmery. Urban Decay Woodstock is brighter, more neon. China Glaze 108 Degrees is redder, darker, and shimmery. SpaRitual Color Trip is more magenta, less pink.
  • Lara is a medium-dark bubblegum pink with blue undertones and a cream finish. It’s opaque in two coats. OCC Palare is a little more fuchsia and has shimmer. Zoya Jolene is similar but slightly lighter. Lancome Ms. Perfectly Pink is fairly close, perhaps a little less blue-based.
  • Shelby is a blue-based cotton candy pink with a cream finish. It was opaque in two coats. It’s a little like a Pepto Bismol pink, actually. MAC Pinkly Fresh is several shades lighter. MAC Ice Cream Cake is similar, perhaps a bit darker–this shade was troublesome, too.
  • Arizona is a warm, light-medium orange with a cream finish. It was opaque in two coats. Sinful Cloud 9 is a little brighter and has shimmer. China Glaze Papaya Punch is a couple of steps darker. China Glaze Sun Worshipper is brighter, more neon, and yellower.
  • Tracie is a soft pastel green with subtle yellow undertones and threads of white metallic shimmer (so there are some brush strokes). It was opaque in two coats. Barielle Myrza’s Meadow is the only shade I have reviewed before that is similar, but it’s a bit lighter. I haven’t reviewed it yet, but Essie’s Navigate Her is closer, but it is a little less yellow toned to me and doesn’t have shimmer–it’s very close, though!
  • Wednesday is an aqua blue cream. It was opaque in two coats. Essie Mint Candy Apple is much lighter, almost chalky-looking in comparison. MAC Salad Dressed is closer but a little darker. Chanel Nouvelle Vague is a touch lighter and has shimmer. China Glaze For Audrey is a hint bluer and lighter.

Perhaps the most impressive characteristic of Zoya’s polishes is the pigmentation; most shades are almost opaque in a single coat, though I always prefer doing two to ensure smooth, even results. It just seems so odd to leave it at just one! All of these felt a smidgen on the thicker side as far as consistency went. Shelby was the hardest to work with, and I’d describe it as an average polish (the others are good to great); it was streaky on the first coat and thick yet watery (perhaps why it was streaky).  You will see brush strokes in Tracie, because it has metallic shimmer–if you think of the way brushed metal looks, it looks like that, and I know some love it, some hate it.

I haven’t tested the wear of these particular shades, since they just arrived yesterday.  I have tested many, many Zoya polishes and finishes in the past, though, and I’ve always had seven-day wear with them.  Admittedly, I can’t think of a brand that does chip on me aside from matte nail polish (with no top coat!). Though I haven’t worn Wednesday extensively, it did stain slightly even after just a half hour or so of being on.

Which shade is your favorite?

ACK! I’ve absolutely all over myself with this collection for the last 2 days! I mean, crazy. I think people are starting to look at me funny. Don’t really care. The swatches are just as I’d hoped but I’m so sadden to see Shelby get a thumbs down as that’s the shade I really was drawn to initially…Oh well, I’m over it, I have the entire rest of the collection to love!

Commence looking at me funny…might as well, I’ll be commenting on the surf swatches too.(I don’t even LOVE nail polish!)

Yay for love it or leave it being back!

Exactly the kind of polishes I’m into atm. I’ll be getting the orange, green and aqua for sure and maybe the medium pink.

So I could never get Zoya’s to work properly on me despite anchor and armor, but liked the company so I bought them anyways. After that stupid sophomoric stunt with the email promo I am through with them. I know this is silly of me, but for some reason the girls names always irritated me.

Quinctia Avatar

Did you get the last promo email the day after it had expired, too? I really didn’t need six more nail polishes at the time, so I didn’t even look into complaining, but that might have been an FCC violation if it happened to a bunch of people. I just figured it got hung up en route, since I have a lot of my mail forwarded fro a different address.

Emily O. Avatar

There was a response on FB saying it had been sent out purposefully to see if people were following Zoya’s FB and Twitter. After that. I was done.

As I have an unhealthy enjoyment of internet drama, I scanned back on the Zoya FB wall. There was some discussion around the 16th about a couple of statuses supposedly posted by Zoya that are now deleted that stated the email thing meant that people should have been checking them out on facebook and twitter.

Even if that wasn’t unprofessional, going back more than about ten messages on a facebook wall is a measure of extreme patience these days, so if someone actually believes that, it’s just plain mean. 🙂

There were apparently quite a few people that didn’t get that email until two days after the promo ended. It doesn’t look like Zoya has done anything to rectify the issue. It does look bad in the face of what Urban Decay did when they had a promo email go out early a few months ago–they honored it the day the promo was supposed to happen AND the day the email came out.

So that’s a little disappointing to see…now I wish I just had a personal problem with my email forwarding like I originally thought!

It was deleted and then the queries never responded to. I myself read the Zoya post regarding ” If you were following us on twitter you would have known about the promo” bit. I completely agree about beauty should be a drama free area (Oh Monsieur Guerlain!) and acknowledge how generous Zoya is with the promo’s, however this just rubbed me the wrong way.

Love all of these except Tracie– brushstrokes kill me! Would have loved it if them kept it a creme polish like all the others in this collection. I think my top faves are Arizona and Wednesday, but I love the pinks too!

Shelby Avatar

That’s a shame to hear Shelby wasn’t anything special.
I’ll still be getting it just for the name! 😀
Never know if/when another polish sharing my name will come out.

Hi Christine,

Just wanted to draw your attention to two small little typos: “MAC Toco TOucan” and “Papaya PUnch.” Feel free to delete this comment, you don’t have to approve it! 🙂

And these polishes look gorgeous! I don’t know if I should thank you though, seeing as how my bank account’s going to take a hit because of this collection. Hahaha.

i don’t mind wednesday staining because that happens with a lot of blue nail polish and it is such a pretty color that i’ll just ignore it. i’ve never had a blue nail polish that didn’t stain and that includes ones from opi to brands at walmart.

I will be getting maybe 2 from the Beach side of this new duo collection. I have colors that are close to a lot of these already in formulas I am happy with.

Hi Christine,
You have fantastic pictures…seriously, you make every color look drool-worthy. I really love your reviews too, how you describe the formula as best you can and use other colors as a reference for people who may be familiar with them.

I was wondering if you can tell me of the top of your head…do you think Wednesday looks anything like Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos? And does Lara look anything like Zoya Layla (besides Layla being a neon)? Thanks so much =)
