5 Beautiful Taupe Eyeshadows

5 Beautiful Taupe Eyeshadows

Ahh, taupe! The mysterious shades of taupe, because it’s one of those shades that is more of a mix of shades we can easily recognize. I feel taupe is one of those “you know it when you see it” shades, but the best way for me to describe it is: gray-tinted brown. I associate taupe with mushrooms; the color of mushrooms in their many varieties is a tangible way for me to envision it. Sometimes you can have a shade that’s more brown than gray but still more taupe than either brown or gray; other times, it’s almost gray with a hint of brown.

Is it me or are many taupes limited edition? The five picks below are all permanent shades, just to make it easy, but there are many other fantastic shades that have come and gone over the years.

What are your favorite taupe eyeshadows?

Ooo these are gorgeous! I have very recently learnt that it’s not because I’m pretty warm-toned that slightly cooler taupe shadows can’t work on me. It’s hard to imagine from how the Giorgio Armani one looks in pan that it’s actually a taupe though!

Keep your cool looks pretty pretty pretty!!!, but I didn´t get it only because I already have Unflappable wich is rather similar and will last me for a lifetime I think….

For me is Satin Taupe by MAC a typical taupe shade. But I agree with you Christine, taupes are hard to describe. I probably wouldn’t describe the Aqua Creme Nr. 2 as a taupe, it is more a grey with a brown touch. I love to combine the mentioned Aqua Creme Nr. 2 with Smoke and Diamonds (MAC, but sadly LE) these two look so so pretty together as a soft smokey eye.

What I don’t like about taupes, especially Smoke & Diamonds, they are hard to combine with a neutral, highlight color. I mostly feel, there is something wrong, not working well in combination. Sometimes the lighter color looks to cold, sometimes to warm, to yellow, to pink.

Do you have any suggestions making a taupe and a neutral color work?

Thanks for your answer, Christine.
Maybe I should go to my MAC store with my Smoke & Diamonds and try to combine it with neutral/highlight colors, I don’t own yet. Maybe I own the – in my opinion – wring colors.

By the way, I love my Satin Taupe with Shroom and a little Juxt, for a little color.

I have MAC satin taupe, one of the few shades that I have and one of the shades that I like from MAC….I have Nars Bali….is it really taupe. Looks more like expresso brown to me.

Many years ago, Revlon had a color called “Taupestar”….it was my go to eyeshadow…looked good with everything….went with my skintone perfectly….Alas they discontinued it.

Vasanti’s Stockholm is like the Platonic ideal of a taupe. Wonderful colour and fantastic formula. It slays me that Vasanti doesn’t receive more attention in either Canada or internationally.
