- Haul: Chanel spring ’18 collection (well, not all of it but quite a bit of it),
Too Faced spring ’18 pieces (again, only a few items) - Weekend plans: Enjoy my family’s visit! My parents drove in a few days ago, and my sister will be here through the weekend before she flies back home.
- How do you celebrate the new year?: My mom always makes a lot of appetizers to serve from dinner time to midnight on New Year’s Eve. Sometimes we play games as a family and other times we watch TV or maybe this year we’ll play pool (since we’re at my house and I have a table).

HAUL: Fenty Universal Lip Bomb Fenty Glow. Not much to say about it except that it is very easy to wear with a nice shine and sparkle. I didn’t have any gloss and wanted one that doesn’t leave my lips dry after it wears away, and this claimed to be that, and it is!
WEEKEND: A few new year’s parties
NEW YEARS: I don’t really care for New Year’s Eve, it feels like a non-holiday that I’m pressured to have big plans for. And it’s cold! Supposed to be in single digits here. I typically do a house party with comfy clothes and yes, lots of appetizers.
Haul: Only the “old” formula of MUFE D320 eyeshadow. So glad I finally got it – it’s a really lovely colour and far less intimidating than it looks in the pan.
Weekend plans: lots of baking for a bridal shower in a week’s time; gym tomorrow with hubby and my son who is still here in town (yay) and getting ready for New Year’s Eve.
How do you celebrate the new year: an out of town friend of mine who is pretty much on her own always comes to stay with us. Board games, old tv series, appetizers during the evening and champagne at midnight, followed by a walk around the neighbourhood if it’s not too cold (I fear it will be way too cold this year for our traditional walk, unless we seriously bundle up) and brunch the next morning. My adult kids all have parties to go to so won’t be joining us for the board games, to the disappointment of my friend, who always gets a kick out of playing Sorry and Scrabble with them.
Haul: I ordered the Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette which is half off with the extra 20% off taken off.
Ordered fabric for my cosplay Boxing Day (the 26th) and it arrived yesterday. All 25 yards of it for now, I might need more even before I but the organza for ruffles. lol
Weekend plans: Working until close new years eve, but I get 3 days off next week. My Mom B-day is today so we watched her open her presents before I go off to work. 😉 we went out for dinner on Wednesdays to celebrate both of our B-days.
How do you celebrate the new year?: We eat at home with food platers and/pizza and go out for a late movie till midnight and ring in the new year while watching. 😉
Happy Birthday to you and your mom!
Happy Birthday to both of you, I hope you enjoyed your celebratary events.
Haul: Chanel Road Movie Quad and Lip Stylo in X (both Christmas gifts), Estee Lauder Double Wear Light (I’ve only had it a week and I’m in love), Colourpop lip gloss in Tight Fit and pencil in Bossy (waiting in my building’s mail room for me to go back home), Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Unicorn and The Ordinary Niacinimide 10% and Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres (all waiting in my mail room), Becca SSP Poured in Topaz arriving today to use as a bronzer, and finally Nature Republic Super Aqua Max dry skin cream arriving next week.
Weekend Plans: Chill out today and tomorrow because I’m still housesitting for my mom and stepdad who are on an anniversary vacation, trying to recuperate from the killer cold I have right now, and then I’m going back out to school on Sunday (hooray!!).
How do you celebrate the New Year? The past few years I’ve gone to parties and shows back home with friends from high school but no one’s doing anything so I’m just going back to school. The way the rent contracts for the on-campus apartment I’m in works means that I’m paying for winter housing included in my regular semester rates, so I might as well use it! So I’ll just be hanging out on my own. It’s never been a big holiday for my family.
Oop, meant to replace X with the shade name! It’s Panorama, and it’s the Rouge Coco Stylo, not Lip Stilo.
I hope you feel better soon Kat and enjoy the peace and restfulness of your New Years Eve.
Have fun with your family Christine! Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!

Weekend plans: So far, just NYE dinner out with my daughter. And, of course, swatching and blogging.
How do you celebrate the new year?: For the past 22+ years I’ve done nothing; not even stayed up to watch the ball drop. This year my daughter suggested doing dinner out at a new restaurant in town that’s doing a special five course meal with optional wine pairings. So, breaking with my traditional of doing nothing (LOL) I’ll be headed out with my daughter.
That sounds like a great NYE plan! I’m jelly!
We do the same thing NYE – go to a lovely restaurant and then relax at home.
Haul: Some Burt’s Bees lip balms for my husband and a bunch of vitamins. We both started taking D3 and flaxseed oil in addition to daily multivitamins.
Weekend Plans: not much…some light cleaning and party prep.
NYE plans: We’re having people over to our place for a dry-aged ribeye dinner and Dungeons & Dragons campaign.
>Haul: Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel (like a lot — it’s a very rare moisturizer that doesn’t break me out); Buxom lip gloss in Zoe (might be just the right warm berry red I’ve been looking for); am on a project to find a mascara that works for me, so a half dozen drugstore mascaras just to see what happens (Maybelline, Covergirl, Revlon, etc).
>Weekend: It’s a low key weekend, as I prepare to return to work on Tuesday and then on travel next weekend. Main projects so far — new recipes, cleaning out paperwork and clothes (I’m already feeling lighter). Otherwise the usuals like pilates, dry cleaners, etc. May sound boring to some but I’m actually really enjoying it.
>New Year’s Eve: unless I have something specific to do, I stay in; am past the point where I go out for the sake of it. And, morning of Jan 1st is ideal time to do a thorough gym session as so many people are sleeping off the night before.
I love Zoe!
Haul: A few Aveda eyeshadows and Aveda Beautifying Cleansing Oil (all 40% off); received WG 2017 Holiday Brush.
Weekend Plans: hockey game with a friend, visiting with family and stay warm as the temps are unusually frigid.
New Year’s Eve: Takeout with inlaws for dinner, and assortment of snacks throughout evening; watch tv and play board games.
Happy Birthday, Mellan and Happy New Year’s to you, Christine, and all in the Temptalia family!!
A perfect way to spend NYE and a Happy New Year to you too.
With that sweet face, it’s little wonder that many of us (me included!) have made him our dog, too, through osmosis! (I say this as my my Clarissa just decided it would be a great idea to “groom” my hair!)
Haul: All Sephora Sale-On-Sale stuff! 4 UD Vice Lipsticks in Cruz, Rock Steady, Broken and TMI, and for a mere $28.80 with tax included, ABH Subculture Palette. I believe all 4 lipsticks were on my WL, and the Subculture I bought seems to have a former press, so here’s hoping it doesn’t look like muddy lids!
Weekend plans: Y’know my drill; hair, nails (let’s hope and pray on that one!) and my meeting on Sunday. It will be our last 4 p.m. meeting, we switch over to 10 a.m. for 2018, due to yearly rotation, as we have 4 Congregations that meet at our KH.
How do you celebrate the New Year?: I don’t actually! But many times, because almost everyone has the day off, we sometimes have a Congregation sing-along or cookout. Only because getting a day like that where we can all get together isn’t always easy. BUT; you have a pool table??? How cool!!! I used to enjoy shooting pool balls all the way back when I lived in NJ! Haven’t since, though, so I know I’ve gotten rusty. ?
I love my Subculture palette, I use it with almost every look to deepen my crease and line my eyes. As a stand alone it would be scary but those matte shades are bomb for lining the lower lash line or creating depth in the outer V.
Haul: Some makeup was gifted to me for Christmas including some Colourpop stuff (Mostly the KLxCP stuff), a customized inglot palette (the BF was challenging himself) and 2 of sugarpill liquid lipsticks (Strange Love and Nurse, which we call Heeelllo Nurse, animaniacs! ;P
Weekend plans: Hanging out with friends and prepping for NYE. Plus a bit of preemptive B-day online shopping…
How do you celebrate the new year?: Typically with a group of friends at a really casual party- I am never disappointed.
Awwww, that sweet face always makes my Fridays even better!
*Haul – CP x Laura Lee NKLA (Disappointing. Glam Ultra Metallic Lip was strangely dried out, like they left the cap off for a week, and it’s very frosty looking on the lips. The 4 shadows swatch well, but the colors are peach/warm browns, not the reds/pinks shown in promo video) and CP Supershock shadow in Revolution (think this will go well with plum and burgundy shadows)
*Weekend – not sure yet. might stay home or go out to lunches with friends.
*NY Eve – we’re staying home and treating ourselves to Dungeness crab
Haul: I bought nothing this week and in fact returned the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer that I bought at the $25 off Sephora sale last month. I found a sample of the stuff in my stash and found that it does not play well with my foundation.
Weekend plans: None. It is abnormally cold here and my husband has a sore throat so we are going to stay in.
How do I celebrate the New Year? Generally I sleep through it. Labor Day always feels like the start of the new year for me. Nevertheless, I wish everyone a healthy and joyous 2018, with lots of pretty colors, and thank you, Christine, for creating and leading this wonderful community.
Oh my gosh – a sick husband! Is he like a lot of males when they are sick and giving you minute by minute updates about how they feel? I hope it’s not catching.
Happy New Year to you too Lesley and I hope for a lot of pretty cool toned shades in 2018.
Haul: Fenty MatteMoiselle LIpstick in Covet Candy and Ma’Damn (they are okay. I got Griselda too but that was horrible. They gather bad in the middle of my lips but color payoff is nice and they feel good.) Too Faced Chocolate Palette (so far so good), Becca small light Chaser Highlighter, Fenty GLoss Bomb (eh too sticky), MUFE Lustrus Shadow Palette (very nice), Benefit They’re Real mascara (was on sale for half off!!), I ordered the Urban Decay Moondust palette online (it was returned, it’s horrible) and got Deluxe Tom Ford lipstick in Indian Rose (eh def not worth $54 to me), Deluxe Bobbi Brown lipstick, Sephora Cleansing water (with charcoal, not good.), and a Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencil trial size in Cote D’azur (lovely).
•Weekend plans: Nothing
•How do you celebrate the new year? I don’t.
Have been so eager to hear how the MatteMoiselle perform — good to know they are not that great. I was worried True Navy might sell out, but now I’ll wait until a full review!
Its not that they are bad. I do think for the price and wear that they are ok. Its lightweight, matte but don’t dry all the way down, it gathered for me in the mid of my lips. I put it on at 7:30am and had to take all off and reapply at 10:30am cause it had gathered too much. I have two and will keep them but won’t buy anymore. Its worth owning one or two but not a staple and there is much better out there

Haul – Oh God. I got ABH’s Brow Definer (I wanted to try that but honestly I might go back to my Brow Wiz). And I was running low on my HG foundation so I picked up another Luminous Silk. But then I had a coupon for Wet n Wild and I picked up the Photofocus foundation in Shell Ivory and Nude Ivory (it’s really hard to color match), the Color Icon palette in Rose in the Air, and an Ultimate Brow Retractable pencil. I really don’t know why. I don’t need this much foundation and brow pencils but happy new year I guess.
Weekend – I’m going to help my partner build a bed frame. He and I are trying to build our own furniture. 🙂
How do I celebrate the new year – I don’t. I go to bed like I usually do and wake up like I usually do.
Haul: A grapefruit scrub from TJ’s and Dr. Haushka Lip Balm. Plus my Sephora Play box finally came.
Weekend: It’s my sisters birthday on NYE so most of the activities will be centered around her. We started off last night with some birthday sushi, My husband invited some people over again last minute for dinner tonight, I’m not sure when we’ll shop either. I think she will want me to make some steaks for sure.
NYE: I always try to make it about my sisters birthday unless it’s an epic year like going into 2000 or something. I’ve had two epic new years in my life which probably can’t be topped (one in ’98/’99 was truly the best). I don’t even bother trying anymore 😛
Haul: did the SOS for the mufe seasonal palette and the bite liquefied set. Ulta 20: replenished differin and Cosrx bha, got It brush bath and Skinfood Rice cleansing tissues. Pretty good they are; I have so many ingredient reactions (and they are ramping up, boo; can’t even use some of my regular skincare, but this, too, shall pass.) that all other wipes had been ruled out. Now, if I am falling asleep on the couch, no excuses, and I don’t have to get up. A new packet of laziness! W/e: working Sat & Sun nights. NYE: had a fortunate upbringing, and was always away skiing, so never developed the habit of NYE with S.O. So, after work, snugging with Patticake and Jussi (my current S.O.s), maybe stream something or vid/veg out or read. And freak out about impending taxes, bec I have a lot of changes, withdrawals and not sure I had enough extra taken out! But the car is now paid off as well as the year’s insurance, so there is a tad extra, in case.
Haul: Very little this week. I am determined to start the New Year as I mean to go on so limited my purchases to two Jill Stuart blushes in 03 and 06. One is a dusty mauve color and the other is a very light neutral pink. They are cushion blushes and the packaging is so cute. Then I picked up the Jill Stuart LE eye shadow palette. It is a four pan palette with a khaki green, medium brown, pale champagne and a slightly darker mid-toned beige. I haven’t received any of the products as they are being shipped from Japan. I have become a little addicted to following fudejapan on IG and purchasing directly through IG. The last order I placed I got my blushes in 3 days, the week before Christmas, coming from Japan, totally amazing. I ordered from Sephora a week before I ordered from Japan and got them a week after the order from Japan. So I should have my goodies pretty quickly.
Weekend plans: Keeping the snow plowed out of the drive, snow off the roof and try to keep warm. I am worried about a potential water leak like last winter. I am trying to stay on top of the snow this year. We have received over 2 feet since yesterday evening with much more to come tonight. We are under a winter storm warning for the valley floor. It is just a good time to stay home.
NYE plans/celebration: I don’t really care about New Years Eve. If I were going to pick a random day to celebrate as it relates to an annual celebration it would be the day of my completed chemotherapy. So, I plan on being in bed long before midnight!
Okay, I had to go to IG and follow fudejapan based on your recommendation.
It is a makeup lovers dream IG. Some of the products are also available here in the US but always seems like they are available here long after I have seen them on fudejapan so for someone who likes immediate gratification it is wonderful. Toshiya is very good about going and getting swatches for you and posting them on IG. Even if I didn’t buy anything I would love just looking at the beautiful products. Some day I am going to save my money and buy a couple of the Hakuhodo brushes. They look beautiful. So far, I have been really happy with my purchases. Hope you enjoy looking.
Gorgeous pic of Mellan – such a beautiful doggie!
Haul: In the post Christmas sales I just got some Natio bath and body packs (always great value) and a L’Occitane Verbena gift set – heavily discounted.
My Chanel Tisse D’Autuome arrived and is looking very, very good.
Weekend Plans: Saturday – looking after our grandchildren as their mum and dad want to do a massive cleanout of their home and then go out for dinner.. The weather is great today, so we’ll take them to the park behind our place and get Olivia to practise riding her new bike.
Sunday – a date with the laundry and just sorting out some old clothes.
Celebrate NY -My husband, eldest son and I go out for NYE dinner at a really lovely restaurant
And on NY’s day, probably having the family around for a relaxing BBQ .
Happy New Year everyone and I hope Christine that you have a wonderful time with your family.
Haul: With Christmas $ and Birthday $, I bought Chanel Bronzer Soleil Tan, Viseart Theory Cashmere palette, MAC Snowball Eyeshadow X 6/ Gold, MAC Stripdown lipliner, MAC Cosmo, Laura Geller Hollywood Blushing Trio, Glam on the Run Set (sale for $15), Sephora Lipstories Oui lipstick
I have to return Cosmo as I realized I already have. I truly need to start a spreadsheet so I don’t buy duplicates!
Weekend plans:
Relaxing as my daughter and I only have a few days left of break 🙂
Plans for New Year: I’m not sure. Maybe go to a movie and then come home to watch the ball drop. My family never does much for it!
Haul: From the last couple weeks
*Too Faced Chocolate Gold and my Clover Palette finally arrived.

*Black Beauty Cosmetics (etsy) — e/s in Hocus Pocus and Exorcist, Witchcraft tinted lip balm (superpigmented green, better than most green lipsticks), and Bob Ross Trio Glitter Liner.
*Medusa’s Makeup sub box — Gorgon print makeup bag, Eye Dust in Golden Boy, Eye Contour Brush, Rage Against the Bean Vanilla Lip Balm, and Lip Stick in Triple X.
*Beauty Bar Baby — Face & Eye Highlighters in Purple Seduction, Pink Iciciles, and Lavender Moon Dust. (outstanding!)
*Blackheart Beauty (nerdy Christmas gifts from my kids): TNBC Now and Forever Collection liquid lipsticks; TNBC Simply Meant to Be Eyeshadow Palette; Supernatural Monster Guide Eyeshadow Palette; AHS Fear Has a Face Eyeshadow Palette; Pastel Dreams Eyeshadow Palette (unicorn packaging). Surprisingly, they’re really pretty good.
*Walmart Spark Reviewer (to review) — Revlon Street Chic Super Lustrous Lipstick in Va Va Violet. It’s really lovely!
Weekend plans: Helping a friend who has to move in a hurry. Don’t say we don’t have fun on New Year’s Eve. lol
How do you celebrate the new year? We usually just stay home with the kids and watch movies and eat too much. 🙂
My latest article: http://www.deardarkling.com/cosmos-ultra-violet-makeup-2018/
Darn it! You forced me to go look at the Notoriously Morbid website! 🙂 Haven’t been there in a while, but I was fortunate enough to leave unscathed. I love her coffin-shaped lipsticks, but I don’t own any; her colors are good, solid, workhorse colors, but that means I already have dupes — if she came out with a color I don’t own, I would snatch it up for the packaging!
Bravo to you for going to NM and not getting anything! I spent too much on their black Friday sale, but I missed out on the LE coffin lipstick shades. Like you, I don’t own any of those for the same reasons. The multi-chrome eyeshadows in the We Got UR Freind collection are t die for, but when I interviewed her last month, Carrie said that she was planning on adding more multi-chromes in the future.
Haul: The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum. It’s only $6.80 instead of FAB’s $36 one and we have to tighten our belts a lot (I was on a no-buy for all of December except for this as I ran out of the FAB serum) in the coming year so I’m looking for cheaper alternatives that don’t set my skin off. I tried it this morning and it didn’t give me any negative reaction (medication-induced sensitivity is very annoying as it tends to be really hard to pinpoint and can get worse with time) so now I’ll just use it for a month or so (28 days is the approximate time for full cell turnover for your face) and then be able to see if it’s on par or close to the FAB serum.
Weekend plans: Mostly puttering around the house cleaning/organzing things with the help of my mom and the not-help of the little cat, who is in MUCH better spirits post-medical issues, but that also means he does stuff like store his toys in my bed at 3 am, try to sleep on my head, and follow me around constantly to do things like get into my dresser when I’m trying to organize it XD.
How do you celebrate the new year?: Food. I’ll be eating Quiche Lorraine and Plum Pudding with Brandy Butter on New Years Eve and soup dumplings Panettone on New Years Day. Which is weird as I’m half French and half-ish Swiss, and that would be a French and British combo followed by a Chinese and Italian dish combo so that’s my weird life… Aside from that, by trying to forget the previous year and not thinking about the next one. And watching the Big Fat Quiz of the Year (downloaded from the UK…)
Haul: None
Weekend plans: Work
How do you celebrate the New Year? : Quietly at home; I hate packed, noisy bars where it takes forever to get a drink and then you have to fight your way through the crowds to get back to your seat!
Haul: I haven’t responded to one of these in about two months, so I’ll list everything I can remember since the last one: Biossance 100% Squalane Oil; rebuy of J One Jelly Pack; Volition Beauty Oil Control Mattifying Mist (good stuff!); KVD Shade+Light Eye palette; Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy (meh); NYX Slip-Tease lippies in Fire Dancer, Red Queen, Lowkey, and I Woke Up Like This (love this formula!); NYX Lip Lingerie in Bedtime Flirt, Corset, Satin Ribbon (gave away), and Delicate Lust; NYX Banana Powder; ULTA Banana Powder (prefer the color of the NYX, and the formula of the ULTA); NYX Away We Glow Liquid in Golden Hour; Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Golden Mint. There was probably more, but it would have been mostly skincare rebuys.
Weekend plans: Not a darn thing! I’d love to get some drawing and sketching done, and will aim for that. Outside of that … drink coffee and stay under the radar.
How do you celebrate the new year?: I don’t really, at least not consistently. I have, in the past, gone to friends’ houses. I *never* go out (restaurants, bars), as I can’t stand crowds and don’t trust the ftness of others on the road. I usually stay home and have a nice dinner with my BF, and maybe some champagne or sparkling wine, but we’re always in bed long before “the ball drops.”
Love Your doggy…. i would cuddle to him and kiss this cuteness!!!!
Haul:
MAC – Goodbyes:
Full Orbit Quad
Imaginary Paint Pot
Chromatbabe Super Pack Eyeshadow Palette
MAC – Jade Jagger:

Peachykeen blush
Nicki’s Nude lipstick (sale)
Nippon and Del Rio lipsticks (Back2MAC)
Melon, Rose, Tan and Copper Sparkle pigments
Weekend plans: Cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, cooking per usual.
How do you celebrate the new year?: If anything, it’ll be an intimate, low-key/no-pressure at home thing. We’ve been tossing around the idea of a get together and sleepover with baking/cooking/pajamas/movies at my house. If not that, I will be snuggled up with some tea and a good book or movie and probably turn in by 10 or so.
