Yes – it’s not something for everyone but some like the idea of trying new products/brands or being surprised. The value of the products typically is significantly higher than the $75 paid. It’s similar in concept to monthly subscription boxes where you don’t know what you’re going to get in a given month.

The $75 bags are worth at least $150 and the Xtra large ($150) are worth at least $350. Some bags contain gift cards. I got my confirmation/FAQ email today and am trying to address some of the questions and comments. Thanks for sharing this, I’m super excited to participate.

The idea is following the tradition of Fukubukuro. Which is a Japanese New Year custom in which merchants make grab bags filled with unknown random contents and sell them for a substantial discount. Its fun, I got an XL bag this year, I have no idea whats coming. but based on previous years bags, it will be exciting. I like surprises and i can certainly share something that doesn’t work for me, with my sister or friends.

I’ve never done this but it’s SO tempting. I’m just afraid I’d end up with random crap.

Torn between being picky over what I buy and my love of surprises.

I did it last year and they will send you brands that they only sell. It is random but it’s great if you like to try some of their pricer brands out and not shell out $50 to do so. They have two set this year in that you can pick the fair to a Medium kit or deep to the Dark skin for skin tone. I’m sure if anyone not as pale as me got the Becca Pearl Highlighter they would have been disappointed. XP

You’re not going to love everything but some of these items have 40% mark up in Canada so it’s worth the gamble on this for me. lol

I got a ND 5 pan palette which allowed me to test out the brand’s eyeshadow formula for the first time.

I’ve done it in years past and unfortunately it is not eligible for split payment. Also, you do have to pay for shipping on this. Around $10? Not sure but pay for shipping too because of the weight I think.

The Natasha Denona Mega palettes were only available for the XL bags ($150), most people couldn’t get it. You had to spend over $1000 in a year for early access, if I remember correctly….

Anne Avatar

Thanks, Pam! No, I have spent exactly $0 there so far and $150 to take a chance on a Mega palette when I have several of her 5 palettes and the Star palette, not going to happen. I did sign up for early access and will most likely be checking it out if not for a smaller bag.

Same here, Nancy. I was all set to get the XL and then I thought, wait, I only would be interested in a few things, might as well buy them outright instead of leave it to chance and get things I wouldn’t use or already have dupes.

I would have been tempted by the XL bag if they offered it to people outside the US. But the only place I’ve spent $1000+ on this year was Sephora… (*tiny voice* I got to stop that madness!)

I did get the regular bag like last year and was relatively pleased with the offering I got in 2016, even with the 2 products I already own. lol

I felt like I got my money’s worth compared to the $100CAN ticket to Gen Beauty Toronto where I was hoping for more of the bigger brands to show up like the previous year and the US ones (No Tarte, Too Faced, and MUFE like in 2016 Toronto). lol They didn’t advertise the brands till much too late after most of the tickets sold because the early bird was $100 compared to $200 I would have been pissed off. lol I feel like the band if they were giving out the same sample to all attendees should have pre-given them out and allow the brands to just talk to attendees and give them something else to do instead of all the lineups for stuff and rush to the next line.

I don’t think Jeffree Star was included in last years bags, I could be wrong. I’m not sure if there will be a chance of his brand showing up in this year.

Also ended up passing on the bags. I may try this eventually but I ended up going with some pieces I wanted specifically. I think it was the right call in the end.

Still feeling magnanimous from Christmas, I bought the basic Gift Bag today, at a cost of $89 w/tax and shipping. I’ve had pretty good luck with Barney’s bags offered a few times a yr. when you spend a certain amount. Not expecting much is the best way to approach offers like this! Let you know when I get the Bag mid-Jan.

Decided to pass on these also. I just don’t do well with the idea that I am going to spend a lot of money to get who knows what products.. I am not saying they would send undervalued products but rather things that just wouldn’t work for me. I went to Beautilish when I got the early access email and thought about it and decided to pass. I went back a little later and the XL bag was sold out. I keep going to Beautilish trying to determine if I want to purchase the Ellis Faas e/s in burgundy. I have had it in my cart for forever. I always talk myself out of it and now that I have the Kylie Burgundy palette I need to just stop going there but there is something about it that keeps drawing me in. I do love the other shades I have. Oh well, I am continuing to resist.

I purchased the smaller gift bag last year, and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed with any of the items I received. I do remember getting the Kevin Aucion ‘Making Faces’ book, a full-size Becca highlighter primer, and one of the smaller 5-pan Natasha Denona palettes. There were other items, but I can’t recall what they were, but I don’t remember being disappointed by any of the them. I used to be subscribed to several monthly gift bags, but I have it narrowed down to just two subscription boxes, one being the FitFabFun, and the other, BoxyCharm. So this year, once again, I purchased the 2018 Beautylish Lucky Bag. Last year the gift bag was well worth the $75 I paid for it, and the items far exceeded the worth of $75. I didn’t even hesitate on gambling on the 2018 Lucky Bag. I will keep you all updated on the items I receive this time!
