Tarina Tarantino Dreamy Jewel Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00 for 0.32 oz.) is part of the newly repackaged and launched beauty line by jewelry designer Tarina Tarantino. The eyeshadow formula in the palettes is supposed to have “intense, shimmery payoff” with “ultra high pigmentation.” The eyeshadows are touted as long-wearing and can be applied wet or dry. Each compact contains a good amount of eyeshadow, too, with each eyeshadow averaging out to 0.064 oz. (the average eyeshadow is around 0.05 oz.). For the price of two high-end eyeshadows, you’ll get five.

The top shade is a rich copper with hints of orange; it’s a lighter, rusted copper shade with a frosted finish. It’s brighter and more orange than a lot of coppery shades I’ve come across. Make Up For Ever #12 is browner, more bronzy. Urban Decay Baked and MAC Amber Lights are also more bronze. The pigmentation is amazing–intense and vibrant–with a dense, buttery texture.

On the left, there’s a frosted white gold with a soft, smooth texture and good color payoff. This shade is common enough that there are a few shades similar to it, including: Givenchy Lune Mysterieuse (yellower), theBalm Tempting Tara, theBalm Envious Erin, Urban Decay Zephyr, and Bare Escentuals Breathtaking.

In the middle, there’s a golden peach, which comes out more like a pale, muted gold than it does a peach. It has a metallic finish; the pigmentation is good but not as intense as the top shade, but it’s still very soft and smooth to the touch. It’s similar to Bobbi Brown Gold Bar.

On the right, there’s a rich, chocolaty brown with a bronze shimmer and sheen. It has a frost finish, rich pigmentation, and a smooth texture. Like the left shade, it is common and these shades are similar: Inglot #409, Inglot #422, and Urban Decay Lost.

The bottom shade is a deep, dark brown with copper and bronze sparkle that tends to sit atop the color rather than completely embedded within it (like a typical frost). When I applied it, I did find that some of the shimmer transferred but it didn’t look quite as noticeable on the eye as it did in the swatch. The color payoff is very intense, though, and it’s so smooth when applied. It’s warmer and more shimmered than MAC Legendary Black.

I wore this palette (all five shades) with the muted gold on the lid, the softest touch of copper on the very outer lower lid, bronzy shade in the crease with the darker brown to add more depth in the crease, and the white gold on the brow bone. I wore it with and without a primer, and the results without a primer lasted for eight hours without creasing or fading but started to show faint signs of creasing by the tenth hour. With a primer, it was unmoved at ten hours.

I was pleasantly surprised by the texture and color payoff of this palette! I didn’t have particularly high expectations (I was thinking middle-of-the-road), but this was really, really good. This particular palette consists of a lot of dupeable shades, so long-time makeup aficionados will likely have similar shades already, but newcomers with warmer skin tones will find many reasons to fall in love with this palette. I’d love it if each shade had a name, though!

I’m as surprised as you are, Christine; this looks like a lovely palette. I’ve ignored the Tarina Tarantino brand since it came out — everything looked gaudy and cheap. I heard very little buzz about people loving it, so I promptly forgot it existed.

I think it’s great that they are repositioning the brand and relaunching. And if they keep the quality this high (and keep sending out samples to swatching ninjas like Temptalia!), they’ll quickly make converts.

Regarding this palette, I think it would also look AMAZING on people with blue eyes, regardless of skintone.

Hey Chantal!

I mean, I totally remember reviewing and testing some products, thinking they were decent/good, but I swatched this and was like, “OOHH OHHH SO SOFT BUTTERY WHAT!” The texture is fab! The price point is great, too – $32? The coppery shades will definitely be lovely against blue eyes!

Liz Avatar

Agree completely! Some of the products look promising but a lot of the packaging is over the top, and screams “I come from new jersey”. I feel like they could tone it down a bit, make it look more grown up, while still keeping the girly flare.

To be honest, I love the packaging of TT’s cosmetics, but, even more important, it looks like the quality of the eyeshadows have gotten way better. I have a palette but the color payoff was a little chalky. This looks smooth and buttery.

If I weren’t on a no-makeup rule, this would be my poison.

It was the Gold Sparklicity palette. I’m a big fan of glitters, but only one or two colors in the palette made the grade as far as wearability and (reasonable) application. I believe it was limited edition, though. I’m willing to jump back in, judging from the eye pencil and eyeshadow review you posted and from word of mouth from several friends. It seems that the newer products are really overshadowing the older products, which seemed to rely heavily on pretty packaging as a selling-point. Luckily, I work near a Sephora, so I’ll be checking it immediately!

ETA: Sorry to do two comments! The Dreamy palette actually is in a similar family to the Gold Sparklicity palette; both are warm-toned with a hint of glitter. So you’re not missing out. 🙂

malia Avatar

awwww I was hoping for a pic of the lid!! I love a lot of this brand so far but I only have one other of her similarly shaped palettes and they are smooth and lovely, although I would wear these colours much more often 🙂

I’m glad that they improved the quality, but I’m one of the small minority who liked Tarina’s shadows before. The older seasonal palettes that had the same shape (Starchild, Sparklicity Gold) did have shade names on the bottom, so it is weird that these don’t. It doesn’t matter, all of these new palettes look amazing and I can’t choose which one to get first.

I have 2 TT products, Fleur de Lash mascara and Sparklicity Shimmer Dust. I absolutely love both of them. Looks like I need to try one of these shadow palettes too! The colors in this one are probably too warm for me though. Will you be reviewing more of them Christine?

Mango the mango Avatar

Whoa, nice! Way better than I expected. I’ll have to check out the TT display next time I go!

My apologies in advance if I’m being forward, but I have a request: Christine, when you swatch a smaller palette (like duos, trios, quads, maybe quints), could you please include one photo with all the shades swatched together? I feel like that would give a better sense of how all the shades in the palette work together as a whole.

Anyway, thank you for all your hard work! I visit Temptalia every day, and I keep coming back for more because of how awesome it is! 😀

Christine Avatar

I can’t do that, because I would have to redo all of the swatches every time, so sorry! I have to swatch them very far apart in order to provide high quality photos of them individually – and in order for the Swatch Gallery to function, it has to be individually, not in group shots. Again, I’m really sorry.

I must be the odd person out, I have the TT starchild palette, and I really like it. I was happy with the pigmentation on that palette for the most part ( I really liked the silver and the navy colors out of it, and the mid tone periwinkle color) I’ve only got that and one of her dollskin blushes, two of the cream eyeshadow/liners that came with the starchild line, but those have all been pretty decent, if not great.

I’ve been looking at these new palettes, but since my skin tone range is on the cool and light side of Pasty McPaleperson, I’m more interested in the mauvey raisin toned one. The purple one looked good too though. Can’t wait to see what you think of them Christine ( if you have those *crosses fingers* 🙂 ) Glad to hear the brand is working on quality not just packaging cuteness.

Courtney Avatar

Wow, I saw these in Sephora today and many of them appealed to me but I passed them up because I knew nothing about them. Now I think I’ll go have another look!

Jessica Avatar

This is so beautiful! As “common” as a lot of these colors are having them together is worth it (and honestly, I find that top copper color to be pretty unique!). I can’t get enough of those rich, warm colors.

I just wish (and this goes for a lot of makeup out there) that they included more matte colors, at least one. Too much shimmer/frost/sparkle is a bit too strong, I try to stick with just one. But ah well, it isn’t a big deal.

I may have to break bank and get this one 😛

Mariella Avatar

Ho-leeee!!!! I got this the other day and I am IN LOVE with it. I can’t believe how fabulous these shadows are in texture, smooth application and pigmentation too. I can pretty much tell that the middle shade will be the first one I hit pan on but all these shadows are lovely. I was a bit wary of the “orange” shade but it’s really quite wearable though I probably won’t wear it all that much. I also saw another palette – I think it’s “Delightful” – that is also browns but a bit cooler, more taupe-y and I plan to get that one of these days. I’d never have tried this line at all had I not seen this review and the beautiful look you did as well.

Lark Avatar

I saw the Palletes and was impressed at the color range! And no odd ball stuff. The actual Palletes are a great design as they’ll go in a small purse but the pans are big enough to get a brush in. I think thats important. How many Palletes lately have teeny square pans? And “use these five” is a releif to the eyeshadow fearful! A lot of women have different hobbies than ours ( or obsessions?) and panic in Sephora. A quality line at that price will get some future make up lust going. $32 is a bridge price from drugstore to Sephora.

I have the Andromeda Starchild; it’s gorgeous! None of these are such standouts and I hope they do another Tarina off the wall one like that. A real stand out amazing color set.
The blush is super quality too.

Tharuedee Avatar

I really like it and will definitely check it out. It also looks gorgeous with red lips, however, I am not the red lips fan. Can you recommend me another lips color to match with this palette?

Thank you

I guess I’m in the minority, but I jumped on TT’s line as soon as Sephora debuted it. I’ve been purchasing her jewelry for a dogs age so for the packaging alone I was willing to bite the bullet. I am so sad all her old pink single crystalline e/s have been RTV’d by Sephora. While I like the new look, I loved the old and never understood why it wasn’t more popular. Both the Starchild and Sparklicity palettes easily held their own with my Chanel, Dior and MAC. I’m hoping she finally receives a fair shake with the overhaul. I reaaaally want the limited edition violet storm palette. yum.
