Dior Or Divin Vernis / Nail Lacquer

Dior Or Divin (221) Nail Lacquer ($22.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is the brand’s take on your traditional holiday gold, which is part of its recently launched holiday collection. It’s new but limited edition. Or Divin is a pale yellow gold with a part metallic, part shimmer finish. It’s a bit warmer compared to NARS Versailles but much paler and less orange compared to Chanel Gold Lame.

You can see the threads of gold shimmer running through the color as well as visible brush strokes. I used two coats, and there was a fair amount of visible nail line; a third coat would have softened it still, but I don’t think it would have eliminated it. The color didn’t apply as evenly as I would have liked; it seemed to sheer out as it was pulled, even with waiting between coats.

Dior’s formula wears a week on me with minor tip wear but no chipping. The brush is larger than the average brush, and it’s tapered at the top, which works if you have larger nail beds, but if you have really petite ones, you may find it difficult. I like it, and it makes it easy to avoid too many brush strokes and do one or two pulls per nail.

This color is gorgeous. I’m still on the fence about it though. I hate having to apply more than 2 coats, and Dior polishes are so TINY. It’s the only brand I’ve ever used up an entire bottle of. Not to mention the fact that they’ve gone from $20-$22 in a year’s time. Will have to go to Nordie’s and check it out. Thanks for the review!

It seems quite similar to Essie’s Shifting( or Shift?) Power. Worth looking into as a cheaper alternative.

For polishes like this, I would put an neutral opaque colour underneath, like whites, beiges or pale pinks, to give a solid base colour. Eliminates visible nail line too, if that’s bothersome to some people. It’s surprising how it can improve many colours like this, expecially pearly colours!

Looks almost exactly like China Glaze Midnight Kiss from last year, except, possibly, a tad more yellow. MK has terrific coverage. One of my all time favs — I bought 4! πŸ™‚ Even if the coverage of this was sterling, I would never spend this ridiculous amount of money for a nail polish unless it was for a very special occasion like a wedding.

I have this polish and I must say that the color is simply divine! It is different from all the gold I’ve ever seen. It is a yellowish tone, very chic. I have very fair skin and looks great, very chic. I like to combine with red nail polish on my feet. Two coats are sufficient to cover my nails and get an intense color.
