Have you ever influenced someone to get a product? How did that go?

I’m pretty sure I have 🙂 I think over time, most of the feedback I’ve gotten has been that it went well, but there have been instances where it hasn’t!

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Your response is so incredibly humble Christine that is actually had me laughing a bit. I am 100% certain your influence goes quite far. I would say that I have influenced certain people into certain purchases, but I do always preface my recommendations that not everything works for everybody, so typically don’t come at me later made that my favorites didn’t work for them. xD

That would be an unequivocal YES! How’d it go? I’d say it usually goes very well. Of course, I can’t please everyone, but I really try my best to make sure that my suggestions are accurate and complementary to the individual whom I recommending the product to.

Someone on a makeup subreddit bought a hand cream after I hyped it just yesterday. I really hope she likes it, I feel a new weight of responsibility.

I’ve never actively/intentionally influenced anyone to try anything, but many people over the years have reached out to me, and have asked what particular product(s) I’ve used for my hair, which I’ve always found amusing, because it’s the one area I don’t give any thought. I’ve also had people ask me about certain shades I wear, and they go out and buy them, because they like the color, but not because I recommended anything. However, if the topic comes up, and someone has had issues with how something applies/wears, and they learn I use said product/brand, I will tell them to try certain “tricks” I’ve used to make something work.

I am usually hesitant to offer suggestions simply because our product loves are usually very specific and I am always worried they will hate what I have recommended. The other reason I don’t is because most of the people around me don’t wear much if any makeup and if they did they would have to order on line and it would be difficult if they hated the product once it came. The exception is my daughter. She will ask my advice often and of course I give it.

On several occasions, I kinda did! It usually goes very well for both them and, by extension, me. Always with my letting them know that whatever pros and cons I have laid out for them are strictly my own personal experiences with said product(s). Adding the YMMV disclaimer is always a smart move! ?

Btw; You have definitely influenced some of my BEST product decisions, Christine! Chanel Empriente du Desert ring any bells? TF Seadragon Lipstick? And many other “greats” in my possession.

You definitely have, Christine! 🙂 I always check your ColourPop swatches.

I influenced my mom to buy Essence and NYX eyeliners. She loves them and says she can’t see herself buying the Clinique ones anymore. She didn’t like the Essence mascara that she tried, but I didn’t like that one either (she bought it before I got a chance to try the one I bought a while ago).

Yes. I have three sisters and we have always talked make up and skin care. We are biracial(mom is Caucasian/Dad was Metis/Indian) so have differing skin tones from medium/dark tan to pale NC15 so it keeps it interesting for foundation. The sister closest in age to me I think I have influenced the most: she loves MAC matte lipstick after I gave her one for her birthday a few years ago and she also tried MUFE HD foundation on my recommendation. Lately she has been raving about MUFE eye shadows. We know each others’ tastes so it usually goes well.

I have always been influenced by you Christine to get a product, especially when it has received excellent ratings from you and I have never been disappointed…..
As for myself, I did get my twin sister a dupe for her beloved Clinique plum shade that had been discontinued – it was a Laura Mercier matte plum single and she loved it.
I am getting my daughter in law more interested in makeup and have picked out two coral pink lipsticks shades from the Clarins Joli Rouge range and she really likes them. I have also helped her to pick out foundation shades too and that has worked well.

The one time i did that sticks in my head is when i regretted it. I bought a cream eyeshadow from Flower Beauty and it was lovely. So much that I raved about it to an online friend. She ordered multiple shades while I went back to the store to get the shades I didn’t have. When I got home I discovered every single one of the new colors was either totally dried up or on their way. I contacted her right away but it was too late to cancel. (Some of hers arrived fine but some did not.) Learned a lesson that day, ;-/

Well, I don’t have a lot of people around me who is into makeup and in quite a lot of cases I just could not be bothered getting through their scepticism (it’s a Russian thing – doubt everything and immendiately look for what might go or be wrong, just to be safe), BUT! All my family stopped resisting my involvment quite a while ago, so they pretty much are not encouranged to buy any makeup without consulting with me first 🙂 (this too, took time to achieve, but for them I did bother, so….).

Oh yeah! Sometimes talking to someone in the makeup isles and few times with my mom & daughter. I have been too and have enjoyed tge oridyct mostly blushes and mascaras.

Of course…but only my friends that already love to buy makeup. I have never converted a nonbeliever. But those of us who love it…we influence each other and it’s usually fine. Sometimes we just get each other’s castoffs too. Like I bought the Wet n Wild Photo Focus foundation, but I hate it on me. Too matte for me. My much younger coworker has oily skin though so I gave it to her and she loves it.
