Nubar Duochromes: Midnight Glory Nail Lacquer
Nubar Midnight Glory Nail Lacquer ($7.49 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a duochrome-finished shade. It shifts from blue to gold to pink, while the polish itself is very sheer. I swatched showing three coats, and there is still a lot of visible nail line. The base color is more of a robin’s egg blue while the shimmer is pink, copper, and almost gold. The base color isn’t as opaque or as intense as Nubar Blue Hydrangea but bluer than Chanel Riva. I don’t have anything like this, because of the duochrome finish.
Nubar’s polishes are formaldehyde-, toluene-, and phtalate-free. The rubberized cap is one of my favorites, because it’s very comfortable to hold and provides good grip for more precise application. I typically get a week of wear with minimal tip wear from Nubar’s polishes–they’re some of my favorites. The formula on Midnight Glory is on the thinner side, which fits given the sheerness overall.

This looks soooo neat!
Pretty shade! I’d wear one coat for just a hint of colour on the nails.
I have this color it is a such pretty duochrome it looks less sheer when I use the Nubar Foundation base coat. I LOVE NUBAR!!!!!!!!
I bet it would be gorgeous layered over black!
I think it’s hilarious that everything now is called “duochrome” when it’s actually iridescent. I guess that’s a bad word nowadays.
It is a duochrome – it flashes different colors depending on the angle.
Duo-chrome would be 2 colors, this is described as blue, pink and gold with pink, copper and gold shimmer. That’s a whole lot of colors going on! Irridescent’s definition is: displaying a spectrum of colours that shimmer and change due to interference and scattering as the observer’s position changes. Chrome is just another word for pigment, so a duo-chrome would just be 2 colors.
Nubar (and most other cosmetic companies) would disagree – because that is how they’ve always defined duochromes – as a product that will change colors based on the viewing angle. 🙂
I love the way it looks in the bottle, but I’m leaving it other than that. -.-
It doesn’t look that lovely as it does in the bottle!! May be it’s only me.
oh God I’m such a sucker for duochromes! This looks so unique. Why do I live in Belgium, where they have no cool brands 🙁
when I first saw the mane, I thought this could glow in the dark …
There was a color similar to this a Couple years ago by ice nail polish at walmart. I think it’s pretty maybe like four coats under a French manicure?
I think the sheerness is part of it’s appeal.
The ORLY shade “sky blue pink” looks like it’s an exact dupe.
It looks prettier in the bottle. ):
Really sheer, but I like the duochrome color.
I have a really similar one (although much cheaper), and I was so dissapointed when I applied it… but after 5 coats, it was just like in the bottle, gorgeous! I still have to try it over some colour… 🙂
I think this would be perfect over a black polish for some nail drama!
i think i do love it with more layers, but i’m a bit disappointed it’s quite sheer
looks like sparitual it’s raining man 🙂
Do you think you could possibly layer this over a light blue to make it more opaque? 🙂 I’d love to see swatches of it like that!
There’s always a cream or metallic that will make any sheer look like the bottle and it’s never too hard to figure out. The cool thing about shears is it’s like buying a million colors at once (when layered over anything you already own).
