Does your makeup change for the holidays?

I tend to remove whatever I was testing that day and redo everything for any dinners out during the holiday season (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, etc.), but I wear so much makeup at a given moment that I don’t even feel like there’s one look I wear often (well, maybe not by choice; I feel like I have done gold + plum eyes about 100 times this year!).

For me, suiting my makeup to the occasion is natural and a bit of a no-brainer. I can’t imagine wearing the same makeup look all the time as that would be extremely boring. I like to look at the changing seasons and various holidays for inspiration. For example, a look for a Valentine luncheon and stroll on the beach with my husband would be much different from a what i’d do for a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and carols. In general, my makeup for winter holiday events tends to be more festive with a hint of sparkle.

Oh I see! I think it wouldn’t be possible during application except if you go with a brush on it afterwards. As during wear I didn’t experience any fall out.

The cleaning part is messier but the glitter are eye safe. No risk to hurt yourself ( even thought I never got one in my eye!)

Nancy and Seraphine, I used to use glitter until I had gotten the glitter in the eye. Much to my shock, it went behind my iris. My dad rushed me to the doctor, and then to the emergency room. Next day I saw a specialist who removed it with a small needle like instrument. So for me its a no go!!!!!!

Denise, that’s exactly what I’m talking about; VERY scary and I’m sure, traumatic, experience you had happen! Similar thing happened to me as a toddler with a piece of glitter from a Christmas card. It got lodged onto my cornea, parents rushed me in to the Pedes Doc, who tried to get in out, couldn’t, but Mom did with the tip tissue. Only lasting effect is some loss of visual acuity in that eye, thank God. Hopefully, your outcome was as good or better, Denise!

Yes thank you Nancy. As beautiful as glitter is on the eyes, I’m staying far from it. Thank God your eye wasn’t damaged !!!!! Scary stuff!!!!

It really depends on whether I am hosting the celebration or not and recently, I am always hosting!! Trying to keep the day going means that I usually don’t have time except to throw some foundation, blush, mascara and lipstick on and call it good. If I have a little more time then I would do a special look. I like sparkles all of the time so that isn’t the change I usually make but rather I go with specific color of shimmer and that is usually either silver or gold. I like to do a relatively reserved shimmer on the eyes, like a silver white or white gold and then a deep red, wine or berry lip.

I am glad that you like it Genevieve. I caution you as I still think it has been discontinued and whatever inventory they have will run out eventually. I sincerely hope that I am wrong and that you are still able to get it in Australia and New Zealand. Chris was able to get me two canisters in New Zealand and there is another available which I am hoping to be able to get. It will be interesting to see if the inventory numbers drop down.
I really love the way it looks on my skin and the under tone is perfect for me. I think overall our coloring is similar. My hair before cancer was a strawberry blond color. After chemo it grew in mostly grey and I didn’t want to have to keep coloring it so just let it remain grey. Your picture appears like your skin is very porcelain and pale also. I imagine it looks spectacular on you!!

Shocker moment: I don’t celebrate the upcoming holidays. Therefore, I just wear whatever I want on any given day! I will say, though, that wintertime does have me gravitating towards rich, vampy wine or burgundy reds, plums, and reddish browns on my lips and nails! Also, there’s the tendency for me to go lighter, brighter gold highlighter with brighter, rosier cheeks during winter, too.

Generally no because I always wear a full face no matter what the day. The only differences with a big event like Christmas would be that I would wear my ‘best HE’ foundation. As Christmas is in summer here, it can be difficult to keep your makeup on in the heat (last year it was 40 c. on Christmas Day).
I always co-ordinate my makeup with what I am wearing.

Nothing special. I just do what I want to, though to some my go to looks are probably pretty tame. I do tend to wear red lipstick or smokey eye makeup when we go out, but not just because its a holiday.

Christine, when you said that you tend to remove what you were testing and re-do your makeup before going out it made me smile and say thank goodness…only because I know in your pictures here you sometimes have two separate looks on each side of your face. Made me wonder what the in-laws would say?
