Does your makeup change for the holidays?
I tend to remove whatever I was testing that day and redo everything for any dinners out during the holiday season (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, etc.), but I wear so much makeup at a given moment that I don’t even feel like there’s one look I wear often (well, maybe not by choice; I feel like I have done gold + plum eyes about 100 times this year!).
For me, suiting my makeup to the occasion is natural and a bit of a no-brainer. I can’t imagine wearing the same makeup look all the time as that would be extremely boring. I like to look at the changing seasons and various holidays for inspiration. For example, a look for a Valentine luncheon and stroll on the beach with my husband would be much different from a what i’d do for a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and carols. In general, my makeup for winter holiday events tends to be more festive with a hint of sparkle.
I actually wear less, because I am so busy with all the other preparations and with sometimes doing other peoples makeup.
I don’t necessarily wear more makeup bc it’s the holidays. I just cater my look to whatever I’m wearing. However I wear just as much makeup on an average day so I don’t really do all that much different
I go more shimmery with my evening makeup if I’m going to a holiday event. I’ve even been considering those glittery UD eyeliners, but glitter near my eyes scares me a bit.
What are you afraid of Seraphine? If that is fall-out during application and or wear, no worries with them! ?
Afraid of a piece of glitter falling into my eye while applying or during wear. Or even when removing it.
Oh I see! I think it wouldn’t be possible during application except if you go with a brush on it afterwards. As during wear I didn’t experience any fall out.
The cleaning part is messier but the glitter are eye safe. No risk to hurt yourself ( even thought I never got one in my eye!)
Seraphine, I feel the same way about those. They’re truly stunning, but I’ll stick with applying a Fenty Galaxy or UD Moondust eyeshadow over my regular liner to get a similar effect. Glitter around eyes is no bueno.
Nancy and Seraphine, I used to use glitter until I had gotten the glitter in the eye. Much to my shock, it went behind my iris. My dad rushed me to the doctor, and then to the emergency room. Next day I saw a specialist who removed it with a small needle like instrument. So for me its a no go!!!!!!
Denise, that’s exactly what I’m talking about; VERY scary and I’m sure, traumatic, experience you had happen! Similar thing happened to me as a toddler with a piece of glitter from a Christmas card. It got lodged onto my cornea, parents rushed me in to the Pedes Doc, who tried to get in out, couldn’t, but Mom did with the tip tissue. Only lasting effect is some loss of visual acuity in that eye, thank God. Hopefully, your outcome was as good or better, Denise!
Yes thank you Nancy. As beautiful as glitter is on the eyes, I’m staying far from it. Thank God your eye wasn’t damaged !!!!! Scary stuff!!!!
This is so cliche bu I feel like I burst out red lipstick and glitter way more in December than any other time of the year, at least consecutively
Safyre, I am right there with you!!! Lol.
Yes it does-I don’t mind bolder lips for fall and winter in general, and during December to mid January, I am a little extra with the glimmer and glow.
I do think about I will wear… And always try to not be over the top because I am almost the only one wearing makeup.
I also usually help a lot for the preparations… It limits the time I have!
It really depends on whether I am hosting the celebration or not and recently, I am always hosting!! Trying to keep the day going means that I usually don’t have time except to throw some foundation, blush, mascara and lipstick on and call it good. If I have a little more time then I would do a special look. I like sparkles all of the time so that isn’t the change I usually make but rather I go with specific color of shimmer and that is usually either silver or gold. I like to do a relatively reserved shimmer on the eyes, like a silver white or white gold and then a deep red, wine or berry lip.
Deborah, I opened up the sample pot of your favourite foundation and OMG – how glorious is it? No wonder you love it – and the porcelain shade is just perfect for me.
I think I know what Santa is getting me this year!
I am glad that you like it Genevieve. I caution you as I still think it has been discontinued and whatever inventory they have will run out eventually. I sincerely hope that I am wrong and that you are still able to get it in Australia and New Zealand. Chris was able to get me two canisters in New Zealand and there is another available which I am hoping to be able to get. It will be interesting to see if the inventory numbers drop down.
I really love the way it looks on my skin and the under tone is perfect for me. I think overall our coloring is similar. My hair before cancer was a strawberry blond color. After chemo it grew in mostly grey and I didn’t want to have to keep coloring it so just let it remain grey. Your picture appears like your skin is very porcelain and pale also. I imagine it looks spectacular on you!!
Shocker moment: I don’t celebrate the upcoming holidays. Therefore, I just wear whatever I want on any given day! I will say, though, that wintertime does have me gravitating towards rich, vampy wine or burgundy reds, plums, and reddish browns on my lips and nails! Also, there’s the tendency for me to go lighter, brighter gold highlighter with brighter, rosier cheeks during winter, too.
If I’m going to a family dinner or an event put on by my husband’s work event I’ll be a little less dramatic. For that stuff I stick with a berry, plum, or red lipstick with cool taupe or light gray eye makeup, and a more natural peach blush.
I wear red lips and gold/bronze eye looks almost every day of the year. Haha! So I try not to wear red lips in the fall, from September to the first of December. Then every single day of December I bust out the red lips!
I usually try to do something special on the day of the holiday, but otherwise, no.
Generally no because I always wear a full face no matter what the day. The only differences with a big event like Christmas would be that I would wear my ‘best HE’ foundation. As Christmas is in summer here, it can be difficult to keep your makeup on in the heat (last year it was 40 c. on Christmas Day).
I always co-ordinate my makeup with what I am wearing.
Nothing special. I just do what I want to, though to some my go to looks are probably pretty tame. I do tend to wear red lipstick or smokey eye makeup when we go out, but not just because its a holiday.
Christine, when you said that you tend to remove what you were testing and re-do your makeup before going out it made me smile and say thank goodness…only because I know in your pictures here you sometimes have two separate looks on each side of your face. Made me wonder what the in-laws would say?
