While $26 for 15 shadows is inexpensive compared to most brands (especially for Sephora!), it seems like weird pricing for Colourpop. Their 12-pan palettes are $16, so an additional $10 for three more shadows? Keeping the per pan price of the 12-pan palettes (tongue twister!), the 15-pan palettes should be $20. And usually you get more of a discount over the individual shadow price for larger palettes, not less of one.

Based on the image on Sephora, the ColourPop Golden State of Mind palette contains 15 x 1.0g (0.035 oz.) or has a total net weight of 15.0g (0.53 oz.). The My Little Pony Shadow Palette shows 12 x 0.85g (0.03 oz.) or 10.2g (0.36 oz.)

Doing the price per ounce calculations:

Golden State of Mind: $49.52/oz. (I did multiple 0.035 oz. to 15, and it is actually 0.525 oz., so I went with that for greater precision)
My Little Pony: $44.45/oz.

If you take the My Little Pony price per ounce, you’d end up with a price of $23.33.

I’ve read in other places that the 12-pan palettes are 10 grams (?) of product while this 15-pan palette is 15. Even if I got the unit measurements wrong, people are saying it’s 50% more product, which would correspond to a $24 price point, leaving “just” a $2 additional price differential and possibly a more palatable taste in your mouth. I don’t know for sure that this is true, though.

I am really happy about this price. I was hoping they wouldn’t try to get all $40 on me cause that wasn’t going to happen but this is a fair price for their brand and quality. I might pick this up in store being as I haven’t fully tried their shadows

Try out their Super Shock Shadow formula when you get the chance! Soooo good tbh. It’s like this soft powder that’s almost a cream hybrid, applies and blends like a dream.

It looks really pretty so I’m kinda sad I can’t get this because I’m international. But maybe it’s for the best. I probably won’t reach for it often because it’s an all shimmer/glitter? palette, and I like my palettes to be as ‘stand alone’ as possible.

I’m definitely in! Yes, it’s a higher price point than most Colourpops, but we expected that when the Sephora collaboration was announced. This isn’t as bad as it could be. And to be able to swatch IRL and return easily?! Worth it, to me. I’ll be taking a serious look at this.

Seems to be the trend now, with this and the Fenty palette. I agree it’s definitely meh unless you’re super into the colors, but I can see where there’s room for it, given how much makeup (especially eyeshadows) die hard beauty fans have. It makes more sense in today’s market to put something out that won’t work alone because they know a lot of their patrons already have plenty to go with it.

For the rest of the people who don’t have them or like a cohesive palette…I guess they’re counting on that being the minority, haha.

I’d buy if I could but I can’t, so I won’t!

I get doing a Sephora exclusive launch but why does it have to be LE? If I knew Colourpop were going to bring it back in say, December as a holiday palette on their site, I’d be patient and wait because they at least do international shipping – whereas Sephora US doesn’t and Sephora NZ doesn’t offer nearly the same range…

Bah humbug!

Normally I would really love this but when I look at the swatches on Sephora’s site, they are all light, pale and similar in depth. Kind of wish they had included a couple of brighter, more out there shades. The shade descriptions with duochrome’s and shifts sound lovely. I guess I will wait for better, more close up swatches.

CeeBee Avatar

Oooh, I went and had a look and I see what you mean!

I guess it can be hard capturing accurate photographs of anything with a lot of reflection but most of these look like foiled metallics – I can’t really see any actual glitteriness at all!

Deborah S. Avatar

Unfortunately, Sephora is known for it’s poor swatch color accuracy. Since it is only coming to “select” Sephora’s I doubt I will see it at the one closest to me which is in Spokane, Washington, about 3 hours away. I will call and ask them but most of the time I know more about what is happening at Sephora than they do!! If by chance they are getting it in I may try and make a trip over there, weather permitting. I need to do some holiday shopping anyway.

I’m living for all these lid shades considering l own a million matte shadows! Does anybody know if this is permanent? I’m on a no buy at the moment mehh :/ TIA!

Silvia Avatar

I wish they did a super shuck shadow palette! I love those! Would like to see these collection in person but they look similar to colors I have already besides, I like them brighter.

Catherine Avatar

I’m curious how they would do a palette for the Super Shock formula considering the single shadows need to be closed up tight with a lid. Obviously, it’s not impossible to design a palette where each eyeshadow has a lid (or the entire palette has a legit llid, not just a cover?…….), but I’m not sure how this would really work.

I’m wondering what the price will be like in Canada? If it even comes north. I’d guess $30.
I was excited to hear CP was going to be available in Sephora as it would save me shipping time and dealing with customs charges upon delivery, but I’m starting to think it won’t be that straightforward. I have a feeling anything that does make it to stores here, if it even does, will be limited. 🙁

Karine Avatar

It’s $33 on Sephora Canada
https://www.sephora.com/product/golden-state-mind-shadow-palette-P426107?skuId=2018463&icid2=products%20grid:p426107

It’s gonna be in “select stores” if it’s at my city’s store, I might get if, if not, too bad (I’m not gonna order)

I just got the MLP bag from ColourPop and got hit with the customs. I have no problem paying QST+GST (about $3), but Canada Post add a $10 fee. All that for a CA$22 makeup bag. I was a bit pissed off. I was often told that costums hit at $100, nope.

DVa Avatar

Thanks.
I looked this morning and I didn’t see it yet. Even at $33 that’s better than most palettes of this size. Hopefully they’ll get more CP items in stock, I pay $20 (on average) in customs fees to the delivery person who drops off my makeup packages from the US, plus I’m paying in US dollars at time of purchase, so anything to simplify the process (or save a dollar) is nice.

Karine Avatar

So there’s Supershock shadows! I think I’m gonna pass on the Golden state of mind palette (even if it’s in my local store) and order one shadow next time I order online with Sephora.
