How do you conceal acne?
I use a small brush to apply a moderately emollient concealer (after foundation) on top (usually my acne is a bit drier, but if it wasn’t, then I’d go with something more matte) and pat the concealer in place to minimize sheering it out.
Retin A. It doesn’t cover up acne like a concealer. I put it before makeup.
Used it for thirty plus years. Wish I had it in my teen.
The other product is the balm in orange color or the indigo balm.
I bought it for lighting brown spots. Indigo one works better.
I have placed the orange balm all over the place…arms, hands, face etc.
The orange balm have dried up acne spots. Yes, I still get some at my age.
Both calm inflammation….and acne is a result of inflammation.
Mahalo Care is the brand from Hawaii.
This is a brand I like and not relatively expensive….compare to my other purchases like Sisley and La Mer in the past.
I mainly stay away from department brands. Too much artificial chemicals.
I don’t bother to even try, in most cases. I’ve always found trying to cover completely makes it more noticeable. I just allow whatever base products I’m wearing to “tame” any redness/ discoloration it may have. If it’s on my cheek, however, I also avoid any blush/ bronzer, as the more products on top of it seem to “cake” around it.
If I have a special event, however, I will apply “liquid bandage” over it, then go in with concealer/ foundation, and the rest of my standard products. I only get the occasional pimple, so I don’t know if this would work for “clusters”, or heavy, cystic acne. The liquid bandage also goes on after I’ve treated it with tea tree oil (or other drying agent), to smooth out the surface.
I do the same as you described up above, Christine. My favorite concealer for the job, at present, is Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. Just emollient enough to not exacerbate flakiness without adding too much fuel to the fire in the way of being oily.
I wear foundation to even out redness but in general I don’t spot conceal and currently do not own any concealers expect for under the eye ones. Not only do I find spot concealing exhaustive, I find concealing every imperfection to draw attention to it, look cakey and look more unnatural in the end. Less is more imo. Also, I find the better avenue to have a great skincare regime to treat acne etc. Once I’ve rid my routine of alcohol denat, I don’t have much acne aside from the occasional period pimple. Those are usually cleared up by more anyway
*morning*
I am so, so lucky not have experienced the curse of acne – lots of pimples in my teens and early twenties, but after that they all dried up (except for the occasional few).
However both my sister and one of my sons had really bad acne. For him, we went to a dermatologist and spent a year getting his skin right. Now it is perfect.
Basically the same way. I go over it with a buffing brush to make sure it is blended after I used the concealer.
Thankfully I do not have much acne. I get a pimple here and there. When that happens I cleanse my face and apply a thin layer of aloe vera gel to my face overnight. I then keep wearing makeup using Aloe Vera gel as a primer in that affected spot before applying foundation. If the pimple doesn’t go away after a couple of days I stop wearing makeup until it clears.
If it’s an all-over breakout, I use Lancome Teint Idole 24H Ultra Long Wear Foundation. Usually, that covers even bad cystic acne attacks on its own. Very rarely, I have to use a little green color corrector underneath in some spots. Then setting powder.
For the occasional single zit, I use a little green color corrector if it’s really red. Then I put my foundation and setting powder on. Then I use a clean ring finger to pat cream concealer over top. I let it dry. Then a quick tap of what was left on the setting powder brush.
