We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I’m at the point now where I really shouldn’t be as excited as I am because, to be honest, much of it is “same old, same old” – when it comes to seeing things I really like, 99% of the time it turns out that I’ve got multiple dupes of it already (because it’s something I really like) but that doesn’t usually stop me or dampen my enthusiasm. I guess because there are always slight differences or because this new palette seems to have a whole bunch of my fave colours but “all in one handy package”. I’m sort of the same with cookbooks….I keep thinking “oh, this new one has recipes that will change my life – they’ll be easy and delicious and not contain something that someone in my family objects to” (the list is long….shrimp – an allergy, which I can accept – but also lamb, mushrooms, fish, any pork products at all, including bacon….trying to cook for this fussy bunch!) So even though I don’t go for any new “trends” (the black and blue and green lipsticks, red eyeshadow, etc.) and have plenty of what I do like, I just keep on caving because it’s all so pretty and offer so much promise of being “the BEST thing ever”.

Truthfully, the more I have begun to follow, the more my enthusiasm is sapped. It’s a function of my personal make up (haha, pun) and temperament. In a nutshell it’s starting to feel this way to me:

* There is an overwhelming number of new launches that reek of low quality and consumer manipulation

* How much new can there be? In terms of colors, we’ve already gotten into what used to be Halloween trends presented as every-day wear — green lips, conjunctivitis-pink eye shadows. Not throwing shade on those who like that sort of thing, it’s just not my jive.

* There are only so many neutral eyeshadows, red lipstick shades, etc. that can physically be formulated. They’ve all been done through the decades, reissued, and round and round it goes. Ergo, it’s all the same, just a new name.

So in all, rather than wanting more, the past year has led me to a place where I want less. I’m the kind of person who needs a controlled stash. I get overwhelmed, anxious, and confused when faced with too much stuff. So what keeps me excited in learning how to use what I have better, and adding this and that to fill in what I need.

I agree with you, Christine. The constant production of new and innovative products keeps me very interested. You never know when that perfect product for you will be developed. I also think the artistic side of makeup really fulfills a need in me to express myself through makeup, trying new looks, combinations and textures. I think having a community of like minded people also helps to support and further the interest in makeup.

The constant deluge of new releases both excites and exhausts me. In the last year, my enthusiasm for launches has gone way down. I still love makeup and seeing some of the brilliant art people can create by putting some pigments on their face, but I don’t necessarily jump up and down over new stuff. I’ve also started to realize the beauty of indie brands and smaller, more focused collections rather than some of the huge productions that brands think are necessary these days.

I’m at a point where there’s nothing I really need and I have multiples of every lipstick shade I like, but I still like looking at the new releases and reading reviews and opinions.

What keeps me excited about beauty is experimenting, learning new tips, and trying out different looks. I’ll never get bored with that!

Same here, I already have everything I need or want (except for a good dupe for Nicki’s Nude that isnt another MAC lipstick, ha) and what I actually need to do is put it to good use. I still love reading reviews and staying up to date because for example foundations and other base products have evolved a lot in the last decade or so, and that has made a huge difference for me because of my textured oily skin. And sometimes a girl has to perform femininity 🙂

I am not into makeup since very long. Maybe less than 4 years. Now that I have pretty much all I need I am very selective and seek more of a curated collection with products bringing me joy and allowing me to experiment.

In the last year, I learned to use more colours (thank you viseart for the nice mattes colourful palettes! It changed my makeup world!).

I am inspired by others makeup lovers looks and I do look forward new formulation and qualitative collections but it am mostly seconding LindaP. The overflow and low quality (even if it is only in term of collection development) of some ranges is… Less and less interesting me! Luckily, we can always learn new techniques, new colour combo and that is where most of the is!

Well, not much anymore. I feel like there couldn’t be the introduction of another new revolutionary anything, so it’s just about new companies and branding and packaging, maybe recycling older techniques or re-purposing products (lipstick as blush, pigment in nail polish, etc.). I like that there are options and endless choice, but I have my favorite techniques and brands and all that, so I think probably what excites me is just the next release from my preferred brands.

What excites me about beauty is the ability to play and try new combinations, this includes fragrance, fashion and makeup all together. With all the new products that come out constantly there is no end to our imaginations, it’s so much fun.

I get excited by new arrivals and improved products every day ! I’m sixty and the changes I’ve seen in make-up and skincare are amazing . Face primers and setting sprays to hold your make-up, beautiful highlighters like ABH Moonglow & Aura, incredible setting powders , the Becca Line of pressed shimmer powders,
Color Corrector products, eyebrow products other than those horrible fake looking pencils, eyeshadow palettes filled with beautiful colors that stay put, eyeliners in credible colors , lip liners that work . I get excited by new companies such as Bite Beauty (lippies) , and Fenty (can’t wait for the eyeshadow Palette to be released) . I just love everything make-up related .

I just love the different combinations of beauty products that are being released and new ideas. Like with fashions, some suit you and some don’t.
Apart from that, I just love being part of this beauty community which you have created Christine and it’s great to read what everyone thinks.

What keeps me excited? Love seeing new beauty items all the time! Fun to experiment with blushes and lipsticks even though my range is limited – dark colors look awful on me. I look in the mirror with a dark lipstick and all I see are my lips. I still enjoy seeing colors I don’t wear on other people so bring on the new products!

All the same things that keep any collector of anything excited. My father-in-law loves his sports memorabilia and I love my beauty products. Everything about it…the excitement of being the first to discover or have something, the pretty packages, the feeling of cool or sophistication when I wear something I know is amazing, the hunt, the capture of a hard-to-get item. Anyone who collects anything beyond what they need should understand.

Lip products!! I’m actually oversaturated in cosmetics, but lip stuff gets me every time. Lip balms, lipsticks, lip glosses, lip stains, liquid lipsticks, you name it. Those are my weakness. I was proud of myself for passing on Kat von D’s limited sale lip, Super Sonic. I wanted it so badly because it is a beautiful eye-catching prism of gold, bronze and copper. The price is what prevents me these days. Since I have more than enough, I won’t purchase if I won’t use it regularly to justify the expense. If it returns though, I don’t think I have the will to resist.
