Deborah Lippmann Glitter in the Air Nail Lacquer
Deborah Lippmann Glitter in the Air Nail Lacquer
Deborah Lippmann Glitter in the Air Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “sky blue confetti” with a sheer finish. It’s a sheer, milky pastel blue (it’s very, very light–there is only a hint of blue) with light-medium blue and pink glitter of various sizes. As described, the color coverage is sheer, and it looks a bit like a jelly to me.
Much of the concept and color was inspired by Pink’s performance of Glitter in the Air at the 2010 Grammy Awards, and I think the color came out exactly as Lippmann intended–whether it’s something that draws you in is a different story. I showed swatches with three coats, which is as heavy as I would go with this polish, because it has a thicker, jelly-like consistency. I don’t think it would be opaque in four, so those looking for a more opaque look would not find this to their liking. It could be used for layering as well. I typically get at least a week of wear (with minor tip wear) with no chipping with Deborah Lippmann’s polishes.
The key to applying glitter polishes like these–ones where the glitter isn’t packed into the polish–is dabbing bits of polish on the nail and pulling out lightly for even coverage, and then you want to wait for each layer to fully dry. By waiting, you’ll avoid dragging glitter particles from the first coat when you do a second (or third).
It’s not the most eye-catching or unique shade–I think if you were going to splurge on one of Deborah Lippmann’s glitter polishes, you’d be better off looking at some of the others.

I absolutely hated this polish =( I’m pretty much alone on that from all of the different reviews lol I don’t like to have to work at it. But it does look beautiful on you!
I think it’s exactly what it’s supposed to be, but it’s not something I’d buy personally, so you aren’t alone! 🙂
I prefer a thinner polish to a thicker one. xP
I can’t say that that is a particularly flattering base shade. I’m not even sure how well it’d work for layering given that it’s not a clear base.
It is absolutely gorgeous for layering! I love putting it over a pastel blue, lilac, even green base and then applying Glitter in the Air with a matte topcoat. In fact it’s the only way I would wear it. 3 thick coats? no thanks!
If it was a blue shade it wouldn’t matter even if you don’t want the colour to be changed.
I have a problem with sheer polishes. Bugs me for some reason, lol. It’s not a bad looking polish – just not one I see myself wearing.
I very rarely gravitate toward sheer shades, but this one is really cute. I just don’t think I’d spend $18 on it.
I thought based on the picture of the bottle I wouldn’t like this polish, but it looks so good on your finger nails…it’s kind of tempting!
Ok,so I’m waaaaaay too lazy to bother with this polish, but at the same time, I think it would be so cute if worn to a baby shower. Especially if you don’t know whether it’s a boy or girl. In that limited case, it’d be so appropriate and sweet. Still not sure it’d be worth the effort, or the price tag, but situation driven cute.
I think it’s very soft and pretty 🙂
Ever since the first time I saw this color I’ve been “should I, shouldn’t I?” In the bottle it certainly looks unique. However it’s more the uniqueness than the actual color that grabs my attention. Thank you for reviewing this. I’ve searched through lots of swatches of this color but never a review of the formula and application. I’ll be skipping this and getting Across The Universe instead.
You need both of them !!!!!
It looks stunning layered over baby blue!
It looks very cool, but I would just add a glitter topcoat to a light shade polish for an effect like this.
It looks like the 80s in bottle form.
I apply this over pastels. Makes my nails look like sprinkled cupcakes! Love it.
It’s pretty but for some reason when I’ve had to deal with polish that has the larger glitter like this one, it’s a chore to get such a nice even finish as you have there. I enjoy doing my own nails but I don’t want to have to work too hard at it. I’m lazy:)
I think it would make for a beautiful layering polish
Not a fan of the unevenly distributed glitter..reminds me of my early teen experiments with glittery nail paints!
Its a great layering polish. I recommend putting it over OPI I Vant to Be Alone Star to get the Glitter bottle colour. I could never wear Glitter on its own.
I love, love , love this polish! I did three coats by itself and it did show up as sky blue on me, probably because my skintone is darker. Next time I’ll try layering it over white to see if I can get away with one or two coats.
It looks so cute, though. I like the different colored glitter.
I love this nail polish! I prefer subtle when it comes to my finger nails (I always wear brighter shades on my toes), so this is perfect for me. I think the pale blue and subtle glitter are so pretty and I was surprised that the polish lasted as long as it did. I think I applied two coats, no top coat and it was a week before it started to chip.
if you have nice nails, i suppose it’s a fantastic color! my nails always look like crap, so i doubt i could pull it off.
I have had a lot of fun with G in the A. I played safe at first and wore it over a base of a pale gray/blue. Now a combo I love is the shade it came out with – DL – Naked – it’s very unexpected but looks fab together – very fresh – very much light as air for summer. I get a ton of compliments on it. No issues here with the app on it.
My Mom bought this and realized she isn’t quite the fan of glitter she thought she could be, so next time she visits I get it, and let me say I can’t wait to layer it over a baby blue. The woman at Nordstorms said it was more of a layering polish.
Cute! I like it alot <3
WoW!It looks really pretty on your nails. What do you use on your nails to keep them looking so healthy? I have glitter in the air butfor some reason it takes a little longer to dry on me.
I don’t use anything!
I love this color…it’s so fun over a blue or blue-grey. I wear it over Butter London Lady Muck and it looks like Robin’s Egg candy. Perfect for Spring time. I wouldn’t wear it alone though.
Thanks for the swatches! Just a few days ago I was wondering if I wanted to get this as my collection is full with just regular colours and not anything with glitter. I love your photos but I haven’t decided if I want to spend the money and time to work with this. Plus, since I don’t usually wear glitter, I’m not sure how I would like that on my fingers. i really appreciate your review. 🙂
I know that Nordstrom sells Deborah Lippmann but no clue if you can test them or not (admittedly, I have no idea where they keep them at my local Nordstrom!), but maybe you could test-drive it first 🙂
I think that looks beautiful on you! Perfect application. I happen to be wearing it right now. Two coats of Glitter in the Air over two coats of Chanel Riva. I love how it looks. Sometimes I wish there was just a touch more glitter in there so I didn’t have to pay attention as closely to ensure I have glitter on the brush for each nail but it is the random effect of the glitter with this polish that I was attracted to and that makes it so special.
I don’t mind the sparse glitter but it is frustrating that you have to be careful to dab the brush just right so it transfers from brush to nail! It’s a fun shade but not one everyone will be in love with. At $18, I think you gotta love it!
I kinda want this!
It looks so pretty on you, but I can tell applying this polish is going to be blesome.
Exactly, Christine. I was so disappointed at how sheer the polish is. It looks so much better in the bottle.
I’ve seen a blogger us essie’s sag harbour as a base and it would end up looking more like the colour in the bottle.
Definitely depends on what you want out of it – like I really do feel it’s pretty much as described, but it’s not something I personally like enough to spend $18 on!
Awesome, I ♥ it!!
That’s actually really cool. Have you tried layering it on top of other polishes (a blue, purple, pink)?
I think those huge chunks of glitter are pretty tacky and the greyish base looks weird and doesn’t really work.
I’m sorry, but that’s pretty fugly.
I LOVE this polish! I put it over a light pink or light blue color and get tons of compliments! I’m wearing it currently. Isn’t this a limited edition for spring, or am i mistaken?
Wow, I LOVE this!!!
Nice shade!!!
I love this color, but the whites of my nails are all messed up and uneven from years of weak, broken nails… This would look awful on me!
that looks amazing *_* i waaaaaant it :((
I ♥ it!
Do you have any swatches of deborah lippmann i love the nightlife? If not, can you put a few up?
I don’t have it, sorry!
Oh! How disappointing! It looks so exciting in the bottle, and then so blah when applied. I am always on the lookout for exciting shades to try, something different that stands out xx
Such a late comment! But I recently got Revlon’s Whimsical and it’s the exact dupe!
