Happy Wednesday! Here's this week's survey, which you can copy and paste and share as a comment.
- Your skin tone/coloring:
- Most creative brand?
- Most fun brand?
- Most inclusive brand?
P.S. — Thanks to Leigh for this week’s survey idea!
Your skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
Most creative brand? I’ve gotta say MAC – they’re the company that really seems to have started it all in terms of great products, innovative products (Strobe Cream, Paint Pot eyeshadows that act as bases, blot and setting powders, etc.). UD would be a close second because UDPP really changed my makeup wearing life
Most fun brand? Kat von D
Most inclusive brand? no idea simply because it’s not much of an issue for me
Your skin tone/coloring: Light neutral, MAC NC20
Most creative brand? I think it would be a tie between MAC and Urban Decay.
Most fun brand? I have to choose MAC because there are just so many lipstick and eyeshadow shades, formulas, and finishes. I love spending time browsing and swatching every time I’m at a MAC counter or store.
Most inclusive brand? Judging from what I’ve read, probably Fenty.
Skin tone: Very fair with cool undertones, MAC NW 5-10
Most creative brand: This is tough. There are many but they are so new that it is hard to tell if it is really innovative and creative. I think perhaps MAC as they were the brand I first became aware of launching new products that were truly innovative and they continue to collaborate with artists and explore the possibilities.
Most fun brand: I don’t necessarily care for their products but Too Faced does try to have fun with their products, not necessarily successfully though. I think UD and Kat Von D are also fun brands to follow. ColourPop comes to mind, also.
Most inclusive brand: Fenty has been impressive with their launch. In the past, MAC was the first to really expand their range to include more deep and pale shades.
Skintone/Coloring: Fairly light, very neutral; dark-featured.
Most Creative: L’Oreal. Not only due to the eponymous label, but taking into account all the other brands under the umbrella. NYX has been putting out several new formulas, in shades that run the spectrum. Lancome leads in skincare. L’Oreal has been a solid contender; while some products have come & gone, many have stuck around for decades. With all the subsidiary brands, it seems L’Oreal is able to take some creative risks, and is always willing.
Most Fun: Although I only have a couple of items from the brand (mainly due to overall costs, as well as limited availability), I’d have to say Inglot. I love the idea of just going into a store, and filling up a palette of different colors, or rearranging my collection into smaller, edited palettes to suit my needs at the time. If the brand had been available to me 10 years ago, in its full range, and was less expensive, I have no doubt my current stash would have ended up mostly Inglot.
Most Inclusive: I realize this probably refers primarily to skintone, but I feel “inclusiveness” also relates to aesthetic, pricepoint, availability, and “morality”. Taking all into account, I’d have to say Kat von D Beauty (although it seems she doesn’t necessarily *want* those with certain political leanings to enjoy her products, LOL…). The pricepoint is fair. Regardless of ones aesthetic, the range of shades & finishes is phenomenal. The brand is available in many countries, and in stores. The brand is vegan/CF. As for foundation shades, it could stand to have a few more added: I have to mix/ supplement to get a match, but I have to do that with all brands, even Fenty Beauty.
Your skin tone/coloring: MAC NC 23
Most creative brand? Pat McGrath Labs
Most fun brand? ColourPop
Most inclusive brand? MAC
Your skin tone/ colouring: light with warm undertones
Most creative brand? Too Faced!
Most fun brand? Too Faced!
Most inclusive brand? Nars!
Skin tone/coloring: Fair/light with cool-to-neutral undertones
Most innovative: UD or Colourpop, both constantly come out with new shades and new formulas. Plus Nyx and Wet N’ Wild are really killing it at the drug store right now.
Most fun: There are a few brands with aesthetics I really like, but for different reasons. UD and KVD both have super cool, edgy vibes, Sugarpill is all bright colors and creativity, Lime Crime is really cutesy, and I really like Colourpop’s sort of California-esque vibe.
Most inclusive: From newer brands, Fenty. From more established collections, Make Up For Ever.
Your skin tone/coloring: fair/warm
Most creative brand? NYX
Most fun brand? ColourPop
Most inclusive brand? No idea, it’s a non-issue for me
Skintone / coloring : light, MAC NC 20, med brown hair and eyes
Most creative brand: MAC, Colourpop, NYX, KVD
Most fun: Colourpop
Most inclusive : MAC
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair, cool-toned
Most creative brand? I would say MAC, just because of how many different collections they release! They’re always thinking of something different!
Most fun brand? I think Benefit! They also have fun/quirky products and packaging!
Most inclusive brand? I would say MAC or MUFE – both brands that have more of a ‘professional’ side of the cosmetic industry that need to create a wide range of products.
Ya know I didn’t think of Benefit for their packaging but they do have fun and quirky old school packaging that is kinda fun to have.
Your skin tone/coloring: deep
Most creative brand? Kat von d and MAC
Most fun brand?
Colour pop!
Most inclusive brand? My number one is Nars for sure. Lancôme and Bobbi Brown come close though. For many many years these three brands were the only companies I could even think to get a foundation or concealer for my deep skin.
My skin tone: pale on the yellow side of neutral
Most creative brand: Kat Von D, because the packaging, shades, and names of the brand are so artistic and custom. In terms of product innovation, I’d say MAC, Makeup Forever, and Pat McGrath Labs…maybe also NYX.
Most fun brand: NYX! I feel their line is less focused on trying to be “pretty,” and more so on artistry and cool colors and textures. Milk Makeup is very playful and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Most inclusive brand: Fenty Beauty, of course, for focusing on a diverse shade range right off the bat. I think MAC has color cosmetics for all shades.
Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones
Most creative brand? For me, it has been bareMinerals (in the past), and UD. Australian brands would be Natio and Nude by Nature.
Most fun brand? MAC, Colour Pop and UD
Most inclusive brand? Having only been exposed to the major US brands in the past few years, I would say MAC and Fenty for trying to cater to either end of the colour spectrum. Deciem as well.
Your skin tone/coloring: dark/mocha
Most creative brand? This is hard but its not just one. High-end would be Marc Jacobs, he keeps it tasteful but outside the books too. Luxury is CL, the necklace lipstick tubes just win!! “Normal” would be KVD, no matter the season, Kat manages to create new styles to her brand while staying within her brand image. Online would be Beauty Bakerie, the pkg is just too darn cute and fun. Deug store would be Maybelline as they manage to stay within the trends and create inviting and fun new products.
Most fun brand? While I dislike this brands image I must say that Too Faced remains fun and youthful.
Most inclusive brand? This is tough but when I think of inclusiveness I’m thinking of a brand that can go from pale to super dark skin tones across the board and that would be Smashbox.
Your skin tone/coloring: fair/light, neutral leaning cool.
Most creative brand? MAC.
Most fun brand? Definitely K-beauty brands (i.e. Peripera Cosmetics). Too Faced as well.
Most inclusive brand? Probably MAC. I share a similar point of view as Xamyx re: inclusiveness; it relates not only to various skintones but to product availability and accessibility, pricepoint etc.
Your skin tone/coloring: light and warm
Most creative brand? Nars – their seasonal collections are almost always surprising with very unique color combinations. Kat Von D, althoug I don’t particularly like the aesthetic of the brand.
Most fun brand? Hmm… Too Faced comes to mind but I don’t think their products quality is on par with their packaging. Urban Decay can have some fun releases sometimes. Lancome has products with a playful aspect (Juicy & Matte Shakers, cushion highlighters and blushes…)
Most inclusive brand? Hard for me to say because I have a light skin tone. Based on the shade ranges, I’d say MUFE, Lancome, Fenty.
Your skin tone/coloring: Medium w/ olive undertones (MAC NC37, Lancôme Teint Idole Foundation N360, Fenty 290) deep brunette, blue-green eyes w/ gold flecks.
Most creative brand? I’m thinking that MAC and UD still take that honor!
Most fun brand? There’s a few contenders; ColourPop, Sugarpill and KVD, but my vote goes to Fenty because that holiday collection has been a very fun one! Also, the shades names are adorable!
Most inclusive brand? Fenty Beauty, hands down. RiRi came out of gate swinging when she launched her baby with 40 shades to start, with more to come!
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair & warm, NC 15
Most creative brand? Hourglass- always bringing something stunning, gorgeous, & new to beauty
Most fun brand? Colourpop- Fast fashion at affordable prices.
Most inclusive brand? Hmmm….it’s a tie between: Fenty- 40 foundation shades, yaaaas! Huda Beauty- Finally some shades for olive toned beauties, & Colourpop- No One’s talking about Colourpop’s concealer – but it rocks in every hue of humans!
Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.
Most creative brand? Urban Decay; Kat von D; ColourPop; indies
Most fun brand? ColourPop; Nyx; Makeup Revolution/TAM Beauty; bhCosmetics; Too Faced; indies
Most inclusive brand? Fenty; MAC; Kat von D; Sleek
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair-to-light. Cool leaning neutral
Most creative brand? I’m super iffy about the controversy that has surrounded Kat Von D for years now. However, I think her brand is unique. The alchemist palette, glitter lip toppers, glitter bullet lipsticks, majority of shades being non-natural, tattoo coverups, etc etc are all pretty cool. I don’t think I’d heard of “eye contouring” before her either, lol. So I guess I would go with her brand. And for a drugstore brand I would say NYX because they dupe almost every interesting, alternative product created by high end brands.
Most fun brand? I want to say Colourpop and Urban Decay, not only with the slangy and funny way they communicate with their young customers, but the packaging/collabs, and how they go over the top with sparkle and pigment in lots of their products. I really like the artist series Urban Decay is doing lately, and the My Little Pony/Hello Kitty for Colourpop are so cute, I had to buy from those collections. Honorable mention for NYX which has “meh” branding but cool products. And incidentally, these are my favorite brands! I really don’t mind wearing a ton of glitter even if I’m going to the pharmacy. If I can’t do it now, I definitely can’t do it at 50. :p
Most inclusive brand? For new brands, Fenty, but I’ve noticed CoverFX has a really impressive range of shades for deeper tones, and very good quality. Both brands also have some really creative products, like the custom drops by CFX and the galaxy palette by Fenty. CoverFX is a personal fave, and I’ve heard that the quality of Fenty is good.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light medium with yellow undertones.
Most creative brand? I’m going to say Colourpop – they might not always get it right but they definitely try it on. I feel like MAC, NARS and UD just repromote the same stuff in prettier packaging more often they they do something new and exciting.
Most fun brand? Colourpop definitely!
Most inclusive brand? I would say Fenty for foundation range (genius) and Deciem/The Ordinary deserves a mention too. For colour products, Juvia’s Place – until they were dicks to Christine (madface).
Your skin tone/coloring: Caramelish.
Most creative brand? For me, this is more about product names than product itself. So I’ll go with ColourPop, Beauty Bakerie and Benefit. I like what Pat McGrath Labs is doing too.
Most fun brand? ColourPop is definitely my number one choice. Followed by Too Faced, Benefit and Beauty Bakerie.
Most inclusive brand? MAC all the way. Fenty Beauty is off to a good start as well.
Your skin tone/coloring: Medium Deep – Nars Macao, Fenty 420
Most creative brand? Umm, I guess Colour Pop. They’re the only brand that I feel like I can’t get some of their products somewhere else. I also think that Anastasia Beverly Hills is creative with their color scheme for palettes. They seem to push trends forward.
Most fun brand? Colourpop. I never get bored with them.
Most inclusive brand? I really like Nars, Lancome, and Fenty’s shade range. I have near perfect matches in with those brands, and I feel like they have a large range of colors.
According to Temptalia, I’m Medium Warm.
Most creative brand is Mac or NYX. Jeffree Starr is up there too.
Most fun is Too Faced, Urban Decay, Mac, and Maybelline
Most inclusive: Hands down L’Oreal. Not even taking into account their other brands, the L’Oreal label alone has just about every product other than lashes, for all age ranges, in just about every color. They have anti-aging makeup (and skincare), they have young unconventional stuff like the lip paints, they have a phenomenal mascara selection, and they were the first DS line to have setting spray. (And they also own NYX, Maybelline, Neutrogena, Lancome, and more). And while it’s probably the most expensive at the drugstore, it is still drugstore, so I think the most expensive makeup is $19.99 for the nude shadow palettes, and the skincare is all under $35.
