- Haul: MAC Bulk Wipes… in bulk. Kat Von D Sinner set (not here yet), Make Up For Ever Star Lit Powders, Milk Makeup highlighters
- Weekend plans: Catch up — I am so, so behind on the blog right now, and I feel so awful about it.
- Do you like thunderstorms?: If they were really extreme, I don’t think I would,
but mild to moderate ones, oh yeah. Mellan, though, does not care for them at all!

Haul: Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrance lipstick in Omi and 1995. I was going to haul Elson but that’s sold out womp womp.
Weekend plans: I don’t know, probably chores and video games. Oh, and I definitely plan to go back to the gym, I’m going to a wedding in October and I want to look a little lighter!
Do I like thunderstorms: Oh yes! I grew up in Kansas where wild spring storms were the norm. If you heard the tornado sirens go off, you usually went OUTSIDE rather than underground. Now that I live in New Mexico, I find the storms to be nice, but very tame. I actually miss wind and lighting and clouds as black as the night sky.
Wow! I’m impressed Elson sold out!
Haul: My Subculture came (and it’s not a “bad” one)! I order and got Excitemint and Mintea to keep up my Dose liquid lip collection, plus Brulee to try their satins (nice try Dose, releasing a Mint collection so close to the DesixKaty collab making me think it won’t be Dose). I order 3 lipsticks from ABH on National Lipstick day (cobalt, stevie and dusty mauve), plus perla- being delivered today. And I ordered Born This Way foundation and concealer when they were on sale at Ulta this week- also being delivered today.
Weekend plans: I have no idea, that’s kind of exciting to me…
Do you like thunderstorms?: I love thunderstorms- the sounds and smell of them are exciting and fun to me. Though I walk to and from work (it’s like a mile), so I would rather they never happen then.
Well, keep us posted! I feel like I have also heard someone feel like their palette was pretty good but subsequent use proved them wrong, lol!
Haha, fair, I have used it a bit- got a couple looks I love. I don’t think I will return at this point. But I get excited to learn and challenge myself with new methods- I have learned a few new techniques already with Subculture!
I am happy to hear it 🙂
That’s great that your Subculture palette is working for you! I’m looking forward to seeing it in person when it hits stores. How is the Born This Way foundation? I’ve heard it’s really good and I’ve been curious about it.
Seraphine,
I have heard it is really adaptable to what products you pair it with. But I’ll let you know, I have to try it! I was curious too, so when it was on sale I decided I might as well.
Haul: I love Laura Geller Gilded Honey so much that I picked up
Ballerina, Charming Pink, Diamond Dust, and Peach Glow when Ulta had them on special this past Monday! The texture of these highlighters are my absolute favorite!
Weekend plans: Sleep in, plan the rest of my eclipse trip, perhaps make myself a new bullet journal, and definitely more cleaning
Do you like thunderstorms?: I like rain but not the actual noise of thunder. Sometimes it feels like the earth is shaking! We actually had a severe one this past week with flash flood warnings!
Nice!! 🙂 The Laura Geller highlighter formula is a lovely one.
Haul: Julep for Ulta lip in the featured shade. Like Julep. Dries down to matte finish, but still has some lip mobility and moisture, so is quite comfortable. The shade is close to the abh LL I bought…and that formula is the worst of them all for me. Also the eye pencil/crayon set with dark plum liner, evergreen and champagne shimmer ‘crayons.’ Like those too, had only had the matte before. There’s time to blend, but they basically do set. The shimmer is not OTT. The Nooni jelly for first cleanse, but won’t try it until the hada labo runs out. Plans:ssdw. Off Saturday. Maybe beach, bec like everyone else on the planet I’m D deficient. 50,000 units once a week. Wtf? Prob ordering Viseart neutral mattes and Paris nudes: dark mattes is actually pretty duped. We take this site for granted, when it comes to prepurchase research. Would have gone for darks in a minute, without realizing how duped in stash it is. Another save by Christine! Thanks. Maybe small palettes, enamored and amethyst. Thunderstorms: one of my townie besties is addicted to all bad weather, and begs to go out with the DPW. How weird is that? Unless the house shakes, I like the feeling of different fronts and the ozoney aspect. Very loud overhead is too scary. One dog is afraid; the other not a lot. But Jussi hunkers down and shakes, rather than running around crazed.
50,000 units, wow!
I have not tried Julep makeup before – thank you for the tip about their liquid lipstick!
I’m a big Julep fan – my favorites are the Skip the Brush blush and highlighter sticks and the eyeliners. It’s nice that they have them at Ulta now. Haven’t tried the liquid lipstick, but I do like the bullet lipstick – very lightweight, buildable coverage.
kjh,
I agree, I always check temptalia when researching before my purchasing! I do take it for granted!
Thanks Christine for your hard work
KJH, sometimes T-storm are just too scary for my furbabies, too. Esp. my white phloofball, Clarissa (then again, everything scares her!), But yesterday we had a real doozy of a storm here, and something fell on my roof scaring the wits out of my big guy, Scunci! He just snuggled up in my lap shaking. ? And NOTHING scares him, so it was pretty intense.
Haul:
DECIEM / The Ordinary order came in the next shipping day. 🙂
Coverage Foundation (1.1 N), (1.0 N), & (1.0 NS) – 30ml
Argireline Solution 10% – 30ml
Retinol 1%
Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%
Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%
Spoonflower order came in with my Tartan and Hem designs I made for Merida.
Weekend plans: More blogging to get ahead.
Do you like thunderstorms?: When I’m inside…. lol
I also forgot to mention that I got those silicone massage cups in the mail for the face off of ebay. They work, but it’s more a matter of the technique than to tool in this case.
YAY for Deciem/Ordinary orders!
Hi WP&U. Have you had a chance to try the Ordinary foundation? If so, how do you like it?
I like it so far, I haven’t been able to test it longer than 8 hours yet before it can do a wear test in my review.
Also testing out different primers with it to see which ones work best.
I would love to know what primers you think work best. The Ordinary’s own primer did nothing for me.
Aw, Mellan’s expression reminds me of my dog when he watches my husband leave for work.

DO YOU LIKE THUNDERSTORMS?
No, I can’t stand thunder and lightning. Although I live in an area where thunderstorms are common, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to them. Lightning just scares me so much. My dog barks like crazy when it thunders.
Does your dog wait for your husband to come home? My parents had a dog that did that for my dad!
Not really. He’s pretty happy as long as one of us is home. But he hates watching either of us leave the house, even if one of us is staying home. He puts on the big sad eyes and furrowed brow, but then goes back to normal once the process of leaving is over.
That is good! 🙂 Better for him.
Mellan is okay with either of us here, but he does tend to be more melancholy if I am not here.
Oooh Adora is gorgeous! I have a mini in it and keep forgetting to get the full size.
Adora is so pretty! I’ve never seen it at any of the Sephora stores, so I was excited to see it in person.
Magick is nice, too. Basic dusty pink but the little touch of sparkle makes it unique.
But of all of my new lipsticks, I am most in love with Bow n Arrow! I was worried that it might not look good on me, but it’s beautiful!
Oooh good to know – I haven’t tried Bow & Arrow 🙂 I think I also have Magick. I feel like it came in a mini set a while back. Now I’ll need to check my stash!
Christine, you’re the hardest working beauty blogger out there. If you’re way behind, we can’t even tell. Cut yourself some slack and relax this weekend!
You are very kind 🙂
I second the motion, Christine! You need down time, too. ☺️
What’s so fascinating Mellan?

Do you like thunderstorms?: I absolutely love thunderstorms!
Sephora’s been having some good samples/rewards lately! Glad you were able to snag the TF sample.
I wish I could get a reward higher than 250 points though! I’m trying to use up my points and still have almost 12,000!
haul:
From MAC: pro long wear concealer in NC20 to brighten/highlight my under eyes. MAC studio fix powder foundation, Quikstik cream blush duo which I LOVE, Viva Glam Taraji p. Henson, prep and prime eye base, a back up 217 brush,
From sephora: Devacurl mist-er right curl refreshing spray, cover fx mattifying primer, cover fx mattifying setting spray, benefit brightening concealer (previously erase paste)
Juice beauty sport spf30 mineral sunblock!
Weekend plans: packing and laundry!
Do I like thunderstorms: yep!! We have been having some rages lately!
Prep + Prime Eye Base is amazing!!
I MUST be using it wrong. I loved the smashbox photofinish one, that’s very similar to the MAC eye base. But so far, everything i’v put on top of the eye base has creased!!!
I’m pretty bummed 🙁
Oh no! 🙁 We are talking about MAC 24HR Prep & Prime Base, right? The ingredient lists are identical, I think, between that and the Smashbox 24HR based on reading them a few months ago, as I was looking for differences!
That’s the one!!
🙁 I guess it just doesn’t like me! I heard so many rave reviews of it, so I jumped on it! I don’t know if I want to return it, or keep working with it!
Re: MUSE beauty sale. Just FYI, everyone. I think the small palettes (theory and the two blushes ) are not included in the sale. Also, if you go for palettes, access through the BTGT page and select 2. Otherwise, (just putting the palettes in your cart) you will not get the sale price. But you probably follow directions better than I do, and knew that!
They were included for the sale but appear to be gone? I know since I looked for them specifically before writing up the info for our little ‘deal alert’ at the top of pages. So odd!
Haul: Nothing again! Waiting for TheBalm to release new things at Kohl’s.
Weekend plans: Date night with my husband tonight, help my brother move into his dorm & go Korean grocery shopping tomorrow, then church on Sunday.
Do you like thunderstorms?: L-O-V-E them!! My favorite thing to see in the entire world is how gray and dark it gets before the storm starts. LOOOVE!!!!
What all do you have to do for the blog, Christine? We love everything you do! Honestly, I don’t think we ever see you skip a beat 😉
I’m just really behind on everything – writing, taking photos, comments!
You know what’s really unsettling? Super gray, ominous clouds/sky and then sun shining, lol!
Christine, i know exactly what you mean! Yesterday right as that major storm coalasced right overhead, it looked so creepy and eerie outside when I retrieved my mail and package; yikes! My Mom would talk about the “eerie skies” here, and we would laugh. I don’t laugh anymore. ?
If by “so behind on the blog” you mean pumping out stellar content at a regular pace ?. There must be a lot of new releases out.
Just curious, do you plan to review the Chanel fall collection?
I don’t have anything from Chanel right now, sorry!!
I bought the red shadow and a backup of Eros. Love, love, love Eros and so happy they brought it back. I was disappointed with the red shadow. It didn’t wear all day on me and I don’t have oily lids. It also pulled pretty brownish red which I didn’t expect. For me, I feel like there are better quality reds on the market. I don’t know if this will work, but in theory, here’s a link to my swatches of the 2 on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXVGb9Pl7C_/?taken-by=binxcat4ever
I didn’t even know Eros was in the collection! Definitely want that thank you! I was eyeing the quads but I will wait for swatches to show up on the net or possibly just skip them.
Hi Michelle, my experience is so different. It looks light red when I apply it using the enclosed brush, and almost a reddish-pink shade when blended out. My skin is light-to-medium with a pink undertone. Maybe the undertone pulls mine in a lighter direction? It is nowhere near as dark as your swatch.
It could be undertone. My skin is fair-light with a neutral undertone. Although when I wore it (over the MAC paint pot in Painterly which pulls cool) it still applied and wore as a warmtoned red with strong brown undertones. So it could also be that there are batch differences. I’d rather have yours!
Another big fan of Chanel Eyeliner in Eros! It’s a really unique color, and bulletproof even on my super oily lids. It was LE and OOS everywhere, I bought 2 of them. Not sure if it’s part of the Fall collection, but they’ve brought it back, now selling at several retailers, hoping they make it permanent.
It should be permanent!
I can relate to Mellan in these pics– I’m like, “It’s so pretty out! But it’s so hot… I’ll just admire it from here.” 🙂
Haul: My first ever Glossier order is out for delivery today. I got the Boy Brow in blond and the Wowder face powder.
Weekend plans: I plan to hang out with one of my best friends I haven’t seen in a while tomorrow, maybe get some work done, and hopefully hit the gym!
Do you like thunderstorms? As long as I’m at home, yes! I hate getting caught in a thunderstorm when I’m out and about. I love thunderstorms when I’m home though. Falling asleep to the sound of a storm is always nice.
Haha! In AZ, that is almost always true from June through August, haha.
Enjoy seeing your best friend this weekend, Dianne!
Ah, Mr. Mellan, I feel ya, Bud! Last night, I read your IG post about his health setback. Gotta admit, that was like a punch to the gut. Hopefully, now everything will work out for this dear boy going forward. I know that this has to be a rough patch for you, too. *Hugs*
Haul: Ulta, last Friday night: Nars NARScissist VLG set. I love every shade! However, these have been drying my lips out, which the Sephora set did not. WEIRD! Took advantage of that Muse sale this week and ordered Viseart Amethyst and Minx Theory palettes! Very pleased with both! They included a free eyeshadow brush. But that sucker looks huge for my limited lid space, though.
Weekend plans: Same ol’ routine, plus food shopping later today. Might duck into the newly relocated Sephora at SFS before that, perhaps? Curious to see how it differs from the previous. Plus, I do need to get more of my FAB Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer and MJ Blaquer Highliner.
Do you like thunderstorms? From the SAFETY of the indoors or a vehicle, they can be amazing to watch! I actually enjoy going outside to take pics of lightning sometimes. And especially of the crazy cloud formations or approaching haboobs! Less inclined to do so having very nearly been struck by lightning 2 years ago almost to the day! Pretty unforgettable experience, I tell ya’.
Ooh, they finished relocating the Sephora, Nancy? That is good to hear!
Yes! And it’s about 3 times the size, plus not so tight and cramped feeling like the other one. It now carries TF and ND!
Another big fan of the Viseart Amethyst palette! Finally, a good purple palette
Katherine, it swatches like butter! Can hardly wait to play around with it tomorrow! ?
Awww Mellan, grass always looks greener on the other side, doesn’t it?
*Sephora -$20 off coupon – Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick in Cruisin’ (pretty rosy mauve), KVD Lock-It-Edge Foundation Brush (works very well with her Lock It Foundation, which is thick and pigmented), BITE Lip Pencils in #28 and #46 (swatches look promising), Verb Ghost Oil (re-purchase, for my summer hair). Pat McGrath Lipstick in Antidote (pretty color, love the packaging) and free sample MUFE Blush in B302 (matte peach shade, pretty)
*Devinah Cosmetics-20% off – Dirty Beautiful shadows in Bellatrix & Ravenna (both gorgeous). They have a huge selection of 35 matte shadows (neutrals, bolds, unique colors), only $5 each, they have frequent sales/promo codes, so great if you are trying to build custom kits. The matte formula is soft and powdery (like Lorac megapalette mattes) but in general, they are very pigmented, although the lasting power varies by shade on my super oily lids. The mattes are best paired with shimmers, which make them easier to blend. I got Naval (matte navy blue), Fenella (matte teal blue), Verity (matte light blue, weak pigment and too dusty), Gaia (matte light gray), Lucretia (matte red, beautiful color). Also got highlighter in Pop Rocks, was supposed to be a mix of purple and lavender, but looks like a frosty white. Devinah only allows store credit if item is damaged, but I contacted them, they responded quickly and gave me a $10 gift card for being a new customer and let me keep the product, which is still usable as inner corner highlight, so I’m pretty pleased. Their products are very affordable, and they’re a small indie company, so they can’t afford to absorb customer returns like the bigger companies
*Update on SugarPill Trinket -so I complained to Beautylish that my arm swatch has no gold shimmer. A customer service rep responded within 30 min and said if I apply to the lips and rub my lips together, the gold shimmer will appear, and it did! It’s not tons of gold shimmer, but it’s there. So I added my BITE Gold Gloss to it, and it looks pretty, I will keep it.
*Weekend – no plans, and that’s fine. Last couple of weekends have been hectic
*Thunderstorms – I like them only if I’m indoors, safe and dry!
How do you use the Ghost Oil in your hair, Katherine?
I’m always so hesitant to put any oil into my hair!
My hair is straight, normal thickness, just past shoulders, with oily roots and dry ends, so heavy oils will weigh it down. The Verb Ghost Oil is the lightest oil I’ve ever tried, and I only apply to my ends. After towel drying my wet hair, I rub in a quarter sized drop of moisturizing styling cream just to my dry ends ( Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk), then I rub in a nickle sized drop of the Verb Ghost Oil, again only to the dry ends. I clip my hair up, let it air dry a bit, then blow dry on low/med with a round brush, and my ends turn out very nice, as the heat seals the moisture in. During winter time, I will switch to the Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil, which is still light but heavier than the Verb. I’ve been using this combo for last 2-3 years, and it’s been working really well for me.
Haul: My order from Sephora just came in. It was pretty late due to the code they put out. I got the Bite liquids and the new moisturizer from Farmacy called Honeydrop, along with point samples of NARS and Buxom mascara.
Weekend: Not sure. I’m in a not good place emotionally. We also had house guests over the week so I’m not sure I’m up to much other than a grocery store run.
Thunderstorms can be soothing and awesome until you lose your power. My Elroy loves them, my sister’s dog who is re-homed with us for the short term hopefully, hates them. My cat Weedgie gives 0 f*cks as long as the power doesn’t go out as she prefers room temp water and to watch a computer screen or tv.
Let us know how you like Honeydrop!
Feel better, Erin! Get some R&R!
I hope you feel better over the weekend, get some R & R. Especially when you’ve had house guests over the week.
Haul: a miraculous NOTHING
Weekend plans: gym, not too sure what else
Thunderstorms – I am terrified of lightning so thunderstorms really scare me unless they’re not too close. If I’m out somewhere, I totally panic and head for shelter and even if I’m home and the lightning is really close (like less than 2 seconds between the flash and the thunder) then I do get quite nervous and will sometimes (don’t laugh) put on my rubber boots and head for the basement (my family thinks this is hilarious). When my children were little, I went to great lengths to hide my fear from them so as not to pass along the anxiety- it’s only now that I’ve told them and their response was that they never knew, so I guess I hid it pretty well.
Awww!
And I applaud you for doing what you could to hide your fear from your children not to pass it on – that is true devotion right there!
Mellan looks contemplative, although seeing his eyes from that position, he almost looks melancholy.
I got odds and ends this week (using the $20 off $100 offer from Sephora): a nail file, a UD brush and some cotton swabs. It’s looking like I may not make Rouge this year though…
We plan to go to horse races this weekend.
I love thunderstorms if I’m inside. I’ve got a friend in Florida who says they’re super scary and dangerous to drive through in her area though, which has made me more leery of them now if I’m in a car.
He is dying to go outside and mad at me for taking photos, effectively making him wait, lol!
HI Christine. Have you considered reusable wipes? A youtuber by the name of ThatgirlShae goes into detail on how to make them. Very simple to just wash using a mild detergent and cuts down the paper waste as those are not made out recycled paper and can’t be recycled when used, would go a long way in helping the environment!
For me, these work the best for swatches and lip products without irritating my arm/lips as much and preventing staining (on my skin/lips). I make a point to try to avoid using makeup removing wipes in my regular routine, though. I’ve found that cloths like say, Makeup Eraser, do a better job on the face for once-a-day use, but if I do that to my arm, my arm starts to get really, really scaly after two or three removal processes (vs 15-20 with MAC’s wipes).
Haul: TARTE — Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner in Unicorn Kisses, Mint, Fairy Wings, Bubblegum, and Margarita; sample of Deep Dive Cleansing Gel; deluxe sample of Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara. ABH — Matte Lipstick in Griffin, Resin, and Smoke (arriving tomorrow). UD — Vice Lipsticks in Pandemonium and Wonderland. (I bought them cheap off a friend who’d only used them a couple times.)
Weekend plans: My hubby comes home from his business trip tonight. I’ll be catching up with him and doing grocery shopping. Hopefully, we can also start planning our anniversary trip. He’s going to a conference close to our anniversary, so we may have to plan for early Sept. (Our anniversary is Aug. 31.) I want to visit Chihuly Garden & Glass, and meet up with some friends I have in the SeaTac area.
I plan to stay inside as much as possible. It’s “cooling down” to the 90s this week, but it’ll still be mid-90s over the weekend, and the air quality is awful right now from the inversion layer. It’s not good for asthmatics like me with bad allergies to boot.
Do you like thunderstorms? I love them as long as they don’t set off my migraines or take out my power.
Rachel, have you been to Chihuly Gardens before? I have been twice and have been blown away both times. I don’t want to spoil it for you if you haven’t been but look up in the second room!! I want to do something like that in my small powder room. The room is really small so maybe doable for me? !! I absolutely love the Seattle/Vancouver BC area and my daughter wants to move there and work after working a year of two to make enough money to live there while trying to find work. I am thrilled as it means I can go visit frequently. Hope the BC fires are under better control when you are there although the smoke wasn’t bad in Seattle. Luckily for northwestern U.S. it is blowing eastward. I just came through there about 10 days ago and it was miserable until we got to the coast. Have a lovely anniversary.
Deborah, no I haven’t been to the Chihuly Gardens before. I’ve seen lots of pictures. I’ll be sure to look up! Thanks!
The air quality here is much better today, thank goodness!
Haul: got the simplehuman mirror and EL Naked Truth lipstick. Upset that my Jouer Skinny Dip palette and Colourpop she palette never made it to me. Dermstore was wonderful about reshipping but Colourpop is making me do a runaround with a USPS claims form and things I really don’t have time for. Plus, they’re out of the She palette so how can they replace my product?
Weekend plans: work and maybe valerian. Have to plan out my Japan trip too.
Thunderstorms: nope. Not afraid of them but I wouldn’t want to get too close. I’m often near the woods so…
Mellan — Please let me out so I can come back in! <3
Haul:
Not a thing. My DIL returned my KVD Shade & Light eye palette that she wanted to try. I told her to keep it, but she bought her own. That feels new since I haven't had it for a while, and I have been enjoying it this week. Nice, easy natural looks for a hot week.
I have to say, ever since I got back from Paris I've been off the haul wagon. I (happily) existed on so few makeup options there it made me reassess. I've been doing more combining of eye palettes and blushes. I feel I have every option I want at this point in time, and that it's time to take a break. That's my head space at the moment.
Weekend Plans:
Hope to have dinner with friends tomorrow night. Otherwise, swims, pups, errands, and staying home! Been so busy at work I can hardly handle it. Good work, but phew.
Thunderstorms:
I LOVE the weird light, the unsettled energy, the wind — even the smell — BEFORE a Tstorm. The storm itself — not so much. The sound and the fury scare me — the lightening worst of all.
Our dog Cali is normally afraid of everything, but not thunderstorms. Go figure. She'll stay close, but that's good enough for her. No shaking, no upset. It's surprising. Gus, in his laid back Golden Retriever way, will also want to be close so he can sleep through it. 🙂
Hi Linda P. I hope you enjoyed your Paris trip. I just wanted to say that I have a 21 year old Maine Coon cat also named Cali. We’ve only found her to be afraid of one thing…our former neighbors Great Dane. LOL.???
Hi Linda, I can totally appreciate your perspective towards makeup upon returning from Paris. I returned back from a few weeks away and gasped at the bounty of makeup, which is less than most, but still… This is the second time I’ve had this reaction. I’m trying to be very judicious about future purchases and am really enjoying what I have.
Haul: How coincidental is it that I purchased a MUFE Starlit Powder on the same week that Christine did? It’s not a new product, to my knowledge. At any rate, I’ve had my eye on those powders for awhile and when Sephora recently offered $20 off $100, I finally decided to give one a try. I picked up #13 Ivory. I love glittery things and this Starlit powder made me gasp as soon as I put it on. The quality is just excellent and I am pleased with my purchase. I love to pop it in the center of my eyelid after I have finished my eye look for a little glamour. This is one of those little things that makes me excited to do my make up in the morning.
I also picked up two more Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks, this time in LA Pink and Turn Me Dior. I love everything about this formula and will be getting all the colors that work on my medium warm skin tone.
I decided to give the Bite Beauty Lip Pencils a try, since I ended up being disappointed by the Charlotte Tilbury lip liners in the Nordstrom’s anniversary sets (Pillow Talk and pink something). It wasn’t because the quality wasn’t there–although the quality was not impressive–but my natural lip color is more pigmented than either pencil and they just didn’t work for me. I chose Bite’s 038, as I needed a medium plum. Much better, a bit darker than my natural lip color, but definitely only a medium for me, so it will work perfectly when I want a more natural looking lip. On fair girls I suspect this would be a deep color. All the Bite Beauty products I have purchased have been of good quality, and this pencil is equally good.
Weekend Plans: We have not been able to work on painting our cabinets since my daughter got married in mid-June. I got very sick with a summer cold immediately following the wedding, and I had to work through three weeks of that. I had one good week and then I got a double tooth abscess that took me out for another three weeks. I worked through both ordeals but had no ability to attend any part of my life but the absolute essentials. Last week I was back on my feet but we had floors installed in the middle level of our home and I was working 13-hour-days so there was no time for cabinets. Sunday I am hoping, HOPING, to set aside a few hours to put another coat of paint on our kitchen cabinets. My goal is to have cabinet doors painted and re-hung by 2018, lol.
Storms: Like so many others, I run outside to watch. We recently had a tornado on the ground and after I got the cats in the basement, I ran out to the front porch to watch.
Tammy, you work so hard! I hope the tornado didn’t destroy any homes near to you.
Good luck with the installation of your floor. What colour are you painting the kitchen cabinets?
Genevieve, The tornado did no damage.
About the cabinets: I asked my husband if we could put new flooring in the kitchen before my daughter’s wedding in June, which was planned to happen at our house. We went to look at flooring, fell in love with a grey and white vinyl planking that was radically different from the color scheme in our home, and within a couple days had a plan in place to change everything in the kitchen. Where we previously had white walls with sponge painted blobs all over it (I didn’t do it), ivy wall paper borders, dark wood cabinets and baseboard, yellow counters, and peeling cheap linoleum of indiscriminate coloring and pattern, we now have soft aqua/mint walls, white baseboard and crown molding, grey and white planking (reminds me of bleached driftwood), and very soon, all white cabinets. We will finish painting the cabinets today and hoping have the doors all reinstalled within 2-3 weeks. After we get the cabinets back in, we will pick and install new countertops. We chose polished stainless steel for the sink, dishwasher, light switch plates and floor vent plates, microwave, and eventually the refrigerator and stove will also be polished stainless steel. What started as a kitchen floor replacement turned into a complete kitchen overhaul and because the flooring was so amazing we had installed throughout the entire middle level of the home, so we are actually remodeling the kitchen, dining room, and living room!
Tammy, glad you’re on the mend. That’s a haul of a different kind you’ve been through. You know, after the wedding, the big sick, then the teeth — it takes a toll. Sometimes we don’t realize how much until some time has passed. FWIW, the cabinets will get painted. If not this week, then next. Even though you feel you haven’t “done much,” your body and mind probably could use some extra rest. My 2-cents. 🙂
Now…opining about Charlotte Tilbury. I admired her chutzpah, I believed her quality, I loved her presentation, and in the end all of it failed me miserably. I few products I bought I actually described as “junk.” Every single item I bought from CT I returned. I was almost insulted at what I was expected to accept. I won’t ever buy from her again.
Linda,
The toll the past two months took on me was evident to everyone: my husband, my children, my coworkers, my boss, and the endodontist and dental surgeon. I cried often and when I wasn’t crying, I was visibly miserable. I still haven’t gotten back into my groove completely and may have to end up redefining what my groove even is. I really felt the strain of illness and overwork, and this seems to be compounded by my age, which is a factor I haven’t had to consider previously in my life. I’ve always had a tremendous amount of energy and the ability to handle a great deal of stress, but I am noticing a difference at 51 I haven’t felt before. It makes me sad. I feel like I’m ready to retire now.
Yes, Charlotte Tilbury was disappointing. I’m glad I’m not alone in my assessment of those lip products, which I’ve already returned. I do like her face powder but probably won’t be buying any of her other products again.
I purchased the ordinary foundation I’m a 2.1 and got yellow tgey didn’t have the neutral in that shade. Didn’t know if I’m supposed to mix it with the pink ? But they’ve been out of it. I really like it not as good as the Tarte Rainforest of the sea but very nice for the $.
I’ve also gotten some hakuhodo brushes and the Wayne gods airbrush and eye set.. amazing what a difference they make! I need more!
This weekend I will do domestic stuff ride my bike and would love to swim if warm enough ( we are having a lovely cool spell. I found a dog that was starving to death last Sunday. Gonna try to get the ticks out of her ears and walk her. I’ll post some pix on instagram.
Thunderstorms excite me and we are in drought so rain is very welcome.
Kisses to Mellan!
How kind of you to rescue the doggie -she will need a fair bit of medication and special diet to bring her back to health. But the main thing is that she now has someone to love and take care of her.
What Genvieve said. If I could like this a million times I would. Thanks for saving that dog.
Haul: Charlotte Tilbury sale stuff- two Eyes to Mesmerise in Cleopatra and Mona Lisa, the Magic Complexion Brush, and a Quick’n’Easy set which included a Rock’n’Kohl Eyeliner in Barbarella Brown, Lip Cheat in Kiss’N’Tell, and Matte Revolution lipstick in Red Carpet Red along with a mini Wonderglow. Weekend plans: Try to survive as my A/C died two days ago and it’s a record breaking heatwave in Portland…
Do you like thunderstorms?: I LOVE them (though my cats do not) though not a fan of hot weather ones simply because of the hot weather involved.
Haul: MAC lip liner in spice, Essence All Matt setting spray and NYX Rustic Antique
Weekend plans: I’m not sure yet
Thunderstorms: I usually sleep through them. I don’t like when they are so bad, the electricity goes out which means no AC or fans. Not good:)
Haul: ABH Subculture and Liquid Glow in Perla and Oyster,Kylie Cosmetics Ultra Glows in King and Queen and Cupcake Lip Gloss,Pat McGrath Mattetrance in 1995(I only bought one I was so proud of myself but then…)Huda Beauty had a Lip Strobe PR Vault available that she had released only for National Lipstick Day and it was still available so I bought it and all four Summer Collection Liquid Mattes and the mini set of Liquid Matte light nudes( my favorite liquid lip formula)Colourpop 2 concealers,2 highlighters, and the Yes,Please palette,Urban Decay Shapeshifter palette and brush.Weekend Plans: work we have a small family owned greenhouse nursery business and summer is our busy season so I’m hardly ever off during the weekend?in the summer at least and fitting in the time to take my cat Leah to the vet to get her sutures out from the Pyometra surgery she had over 2 weeks ago.We took her to the vet because all of a sudden one day she looked pregnant out of nowhere and it turned out she had an infection in her uterus and had to have immediate surgery but she did extremely well even though it gave me a heart attack almost with worry and cost combined!!I do like thunderstorms nothing too crazy but it’s not a bad experience for me.
Glad your cat is doing better, Dominique!! I can relate to the sense of anxiety over urgently needed care and the cost of that care. But they’re family and we love them!
Thank You Tracey!I am really glad she handled the surgery as well as she did the doctor freaked me out beforehand because she told me it was a high risk surgery. It wasn’t my normal vet who did the surgery either he runs the practice and I couldn’t get in with him when I made her appointment but everything worked out well.
He looks like my grandson Lachlan, pressing his face against the window – wanting to go out and play!
Christine, don’t worry too much about the blog, take your time – it will be OK.
Haul: Priceline, one of our major budget beauty retailers had a 40% off storewide skincare sale for 3 days. I bought a stack of La Roche Posay’s products: cleanser, serum, Ultra light SPF 50 for summer and a night time moisturiser. I also purchased Dermaveen’s Oatmeal body wash, Manuka’s hand cream etc. I love those kind of sales.
Weekend Plans: Nothing much on the horizon at the moment other than food shopping, ironing and general things. No doubt the gang will be around Sunday night for dinner.
Thunderstorms: Just love them, though I am not too fond when the power goes out!
Haul: Nars pencil in Via Appia. I have the dupe from ColourPop but I am just so tired of the terrible CP packaging and the color cylinder falling out all the time. I also got a DS of the new Lancome mascara, Monsieur Big, which is a terrible name but I like the mascara.
Weekend plans: Depends how hot a muggy it is outside.
Do you like thunderstorms?: Yes, if I don’t have to go outside. There was a wonderful one this morning, in fact.
Also a set of skin care travel sizes and samples from Soko Glam—a full size Neogen Green Tea Cleansing Stock, travel size bottles of Son & Park Beauty Water, Missha The First Treatment Essence, Missha All Around Safe Block Essence Sun Milk, and Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, and foils of Neogen Bio Peel Gauze Peeling Lemon, Manefit Beauty Planner Honey Sheet Mask, and Missha Speedy Solution Brightening Eye Patch. Unfortunately I am not going anywhere anytime soon.

From Bobbi Brown & Trendmood: 24-hour offer (began Friday) for 25% off 2 Crushed Lip Colors (5-6 pre-launch shades) chose Cherry & Regal.
Weekend Plans: Organize summer/early fall clothes & re-organize bathroom cabinet supplies (‘avalanche’ prevention). Testing out replacement cell phone & maybe check out a local coffeehouse.
Thunderstorms: I do like them, especially seeing a storm come across a lake or when they begin in the evening. Not a fan of waking up to the loudest clap of thunder, though.
