Do any makeup trends intimidate you?

Do any makeup trends intimidate you? Which?

Anything with eyebrows, honestly.  I don’t want to change my eyebrows based on trends – they take far too long to recover!

The “vamp” trend a few years back. All those dark/black lips… and now, it’s the “Summer Brights”. Usually with hot Southern California summers (from around 90 to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit), I usually forgo makeup all together. The “Modern” trend of smokey eyes. I tried smokey eyes once – they darken my face and make my eyes look tiny. Nude (concealer-like) lips make my face look washed out.

Overall, I like to keep my makeup natural-looking and only use pinks, roses, and neutral tones in makeup.

Same here as well, there is also the fact that aside from following my natural eyebrow shape I have no idea how to reshape them at all LOL

I’ve heard a few places that super chunky spider lashes are gonna be in fashion (think Tammy Faye)… yeah.. that’s a look I just can’t/won’t do!!!

“All About The Skin” pops up regularly; mine has gone to heck with perimenopause and I want Eyes to distract from it. I usually just wear what my Queen at MAC tells me is big in Paris.

I won’t/cannot seem to pull off bold eyes at all, but I they’re absolutely wonderful on others. I guess it’s because makeup is not really a big thing where I live and not all people wear makeup the way I see other people on the internet do. I can wear bold lips though, so I guess that is my way of compensating.

Still wondering what to do with my pans of Freshwater, Electric Eel and Vibrant Grape though. 🙂

Bold lips – I have dark eyes, long eyelashes and big eyebrows so my eyes are naturally the focus of my face and with bold lips I feel almost clown-ish!

Janna Avatar

I completely agree. Though I have started wearing some of my darker lip colors around the house to get used to looking in the mirror and seeing my lips screaming at me, so to speak. Now I find myself reaching for more colorful lipglosses instead of nude glosses or plain old lip balm =]

Anything with brows. Otherwise, I’ll try it once. I think make up should be fun so I try out the trends and see If I like them. If not, then I can just take it off.

Lee Avatar

I don’t know if they intimidate me, more there are some trends that I just won’t try because I konw they won’t flatter me.

For instance, dark liner on the lower waterline. It just makes my eyes look so tiny and squinty although it looks stunning on other people.

It’s a hard line to walk, to be aware of trends enough that you don’t let your make-up become dated yet avoiding looking like a trend victim.

False eyelashes. I’m clumsy and I just don’t want to risk it. Also the bright cheeks. I have a round face and dark skin, so they make me look like a clown.

Dayna Avatar

I never follow any of the trends. I do my own thing regardless. But the overly bright neon lips kinda freak me out lols honestly.

Sarah Avatar

To be honest, I’m not into anything shown on the runway or editorial. I love lots of colors, and fun looks that are wearable but really have no interest in knowing what is “trendy” with fashion makeup. And perhaps as a makeup artist it hinders my progress but, I’m ok with that!

Molly Anne Avatar

Any trends with lipstick colors, I’m not a huge fan of nude, coral or red lipx. They work for some people and I’m not one of those people.

The no make-up make-up trend freaks me out. I’m old school and I like looking like I’m done up. If it’s a no make up day that’s fine too but I’m all or nothing. I don’t have the mind set it takes to create the cosmetic artifice of make-up free face. Otherwise I’m fearless about other things.

I don’t think any trends intimidate me. There a quite a few trends I don’t like at all but I’m at a stage where I pretty much know what looks good on me an while I might try something new, it wouldn’t be anything permanent (like tatoo’d lipliner, etc.) so if I didn’t like it, I could always use it in a different way.

It seems like everywhere I look (especially now that it’s summer), makeup is all about bronze, bronze, bronze. I’m fair skinned (but not porcelain), and I just have no idea where to even start bronzing without looking weird/orange/dirty/fake. 🙁

H Avatar

Hi Boone! Have you tried the bronzers in the Body Shop’s new Honey Bronze range? I’m pretty fair skinned too (MAC NC15-ish or lighter) and I wear the lightest shade in the range. The darker shades might be suitable for you!

Fey Avatar

Orange blush. Gold was pushing it, but…orange? It was popular in S. Korea for awhile and in the U.S., too. I didn’t find it flattering on any skin tone.

Trends are just that, trends – does not mean you have to partake in them. I have always been my own person and not fallen hard into too many makeup mistake trends. I know what color clothing I cannot wear – so if it’s popular that year – too bad, I am not wearing it! Pretty hard to intimidate me, least of all by trends.

Helena Avatar

Bold eyebrows. They’re not a good look for me at all! They just make me look…funny. Thank God I started bleaching my eyebrows a while ago (I actually need to touch them up…). Blue and copper eyeshadow don’t easily agree with my coloring, either.

Líria Avatar

not really, no. even with eyebrows, i can follow as long as it doesnt require shaving/plucking a lot. Honestly, i have a lot of fun with makeup, so say if it was in style to wear orange lipstick on the top lip and fuschia on the bottom, i would be totally pulling that off! XD

Maureen Avatar

Nude lips or black lips. I have nude lipstick and I have black lipstick, and I just watch them both gather dust because I have no idea what to do with them. I did wear the black for a masquerade, though.

Mars Avatar

I’m not intimidated by anything makeup related, I’ve done it all after working in the business for 12 years. The only thing I refuse to do is anything permanent or that involves a needle or scalpel.

Elle Avatar

I don’t follow any trend = spend money every 2 month.
I will change cheeks and eyeshadow color of season and the weather. I live in WA and it’s always raining in a year. So my eyeshadow colors most r naked colors.

Kathy Avatar

Christine, you’re right about the brows.
No, none of this really intimidates me, but not all of it is appropriate for someone my age.
Applying makeup is a learned, mechanical skill. It helps to be artistically-inclined, but mostly it’s a lot of practice. No matter what, just keep trying and studying books and videos and it’ll come.

Alycia Avatar

Anything orange scares the ever-loving crap out of me. Orange shadow, orange blushes, orange lips…. No oranges are allowed near this face…. unless I’m eating them. 😛
