I either keep it super simple and use products that are cream-based or stains (tints, stains, etc.). If I want to wear more makeup, then I try to build things in layers (but nothing heavy overall) so there is a good foundation for the colors to be built on.

I usually keep it light year round, and never wear face powders/foundations at all so it’s really easy for me :3.
Lol I don’t. I really don’t feel like putting anything on when it’s hot and humid and I have to be outside. Just SPF, moisturizer, and lip balm. Maybe MAYBE mascara (I always use waterproof) if I’m feeling risky 😉
I use an oil-free long lasting foundation (like BB Natural Finish) and set it with UD All Nighter spray which is my BFF during summer.
A good light moisturizer, blotting linens, and a water or toner atomizer help my skin during the summer. They lengthen the wear of my makeup. And you cannot beat a stain on the cheeks or lips in the summer 🙂
I use Smashbox photo finish primer and UD De Slick spray.
It’s about going oil-free, using a light-hand, waterproof, sunscreen and using stains or creme-bases. I don’t wear a lot in the first place, but the Midwest is pretty notorious for being hot and humid (it’s pretty normal to see 90-100 degrees with 90-100% humidity. Very, very humid). The only way I’ve learned to wear make-up without it feeling like I’m wearing a mask is wearing a thin oil-free (or water-based) sunscreen, tinted moisturizer and normally Posietint. The key is to use thin layers and lightweight makeup. My eye makeup is pretty light too and I ALWAYS wear waterproof mascara. The humidity for some reason melts mascara!
I carry around Palladio blotting tissues in my purse if I get oily as I use one tissue (my face sometimes needs two) and I’m done for the day! They are that good.
This is good to know. This will be my first summer in the Midwest in years, and I’ve forgotten how to deal with the humidity when it comes to makeup. :\
Ugh yes, I live in the St. Louis area, and it’s just unbearable sometimes! My cousin from arizona hates coming here in the summer because she gets so hot! Lol MAC blot powder is a godsend for me and my oily skin : )
Do you recommend mineral foundation?
I use Revlon Colorstay foundation & concealer, a mattifier/pore minimizer where ever I have large pores and Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
Seeing that I grew up in the tropics, I view stains as some sort of lifesaver. XD; Just out of curiosity, though, how does one exactly build their make-up in layers?
Ona vaguely related note, I still can’t get over the fact at how overdone everyone on Indonesian television look, despite the heat and humidity… Caking your foundation so thick it cracks when you talk is downright scary. O_O;
Hahaha, I know, Ryou But some celebrities do go way over the top when it comes to TV makeup. Based on the info I got from a stage/TV makeup-artist, the over the top makeup is a necessary evil otherwise it won’t show up on TV with all the high-wattage lightings.
In Jakarta, waterproof or water-based foundie, blotting paper, and pressed powder are must-haves.
Yes, but what they don’t get is that photography/TV make up does not equal stage make-up. Seriously, you don’t need racing stripes blush for TV, nor shaving off your eyebrows and redrawing it.
PS: This comes from someone with both a make-up certificate AND a photography degree.
Still perfecting my routine, but the Model in a Bottle spray does work wonders in making makeup stay in place!
Using the right product is always the solution! But if, unfortunately, can’t find one, a shine controller and/or a nice primer do make life easier for me to wear whatever I want.
In summer, if I use foundation at all, I use a powder/mineral foundation that is very light (CoverFX Powder FX) and eyeshadow primer keeps my shadow (if I wear any) from creasing. MAC’s Blot powder is also great in summertime.
MUFE’S Eyeseal for eye makeup is the best! It NEVER comes off and/or Mac Fix+ for the face (which I prefer) or UD All nighter!
I use some Skindinavia Fixing Spray or Skindinavia for Urban Decay De Slick Spray.
I live somewhere where it’s practically summer all year ’round and I find that using a really good face and eye primer helps, but to avoid looking all cakey, I apply a BB cream or tinted moisturizer on top of the primer then top if off with powder. I was just at work for 12 hours straight and didn’t even have to do any touch ups ‘cept for my lipstick!
Toner and oil-free serum, followed by sunscreen with high protection index. To ensure zero smudgeing from mascara and eyeliner (even though they claim to be water resistant/proof), I would avoid them entirely on hot days. Instead, I would turn to my falsies. When worn on the waterline, they do the same job as eyeliner and mascara combined. In fact, it can look even more natural, as if you’re born with it.
I try to put on as little as I can get away with. I don’t like heavy layers on my face and when the weather is really hot and/or humid I just curl my lashes, put on some mascara and concealer on spots. When I think I need it, I use a mattifying powder but that’s about it. A lightweight lipstick and I’m good to go 😉
I use Mac primer SPF 50 with some powder foundation and I always have oil blotting paper on me. With these my make up stays fresh in hot/humid weather!
When i wear my full face makeup I use a basic primer (any primer works well)and buff in my mineral foundation. My face doesn’t get oily thankfully but considering our summers are extremely humid up here I need the primer to make it last all day.
Everything else need to be waterproof as well or primed as well.
MAC blotting powder saves my face in the summer! I also use a light oil free moisturizer with SPF mixed with Mac Prep and Prime and a little foundation to create my own lightweight tinted moisturizer. MAC Fix also wakes up my face if it gets too dry 🙂
if im going to be outside i put on a tinted moisturizer with spf over my regular sunscreen. i also use evian spray.
Its gross, but I still use the hair spray trick. It hasn’t failed me yet. If it is super hot, I just use tinted moisturizer.
Oh I use the hair spray trick on occasion too! Especially for a night out, hasn’t failed me yet either.
What is the hair spray trick?
Try using a great tinted primer like Too Faced Primed and Poreless or Philosophy Supernatural Poreless Flawless SPF 15 then a concealer where you need touch ups and Caudalie Beauty Elixir to set it and then throughout the day to refresh. The tinted primer evens skintone without being heavy and the slixir is truly amazing!
I switch to a mineral foundation when it gets hot and humid. Usually the Loreal bare natural one since it is cheap, easy to find, and does the job. Other than that I just do some mascara, liner, and gloss.
I stick to very minimal makeup. I love tinted moisturizer for sheer coverage and spf. I use a little concealer, smudgeproof mascara and bronzer to keep me glowing. If its a good day I add gel blush and waterproof eyeliner. I’m about to get the cargo swimmables eyeliner set today! I carry powder in my purse to take down the shine during the day if I care. Lol And always wear sunscreen! I use regular tissue to sop up oil and sweat. Has anyone tried the new UD cannonball mascara?
I’m with the majority and stick to minimal makeup. I have super oily skin and I stick with Revlon Colorstay foundation in the summer, but I just change my powder to some Cover FX oil absorbing powder and it works wonders. I don’t do a whole lot of eye makeup in the summer, but I’ll do an overall wash (just a bronze or gold), and either bright blush or lips to perk it up.
When I saw the question, I thought you were asking how to keep the (physical) MU fresh. I used to live in Costa Rica, and refrigerated most of my cosmetics to prevent mold/melting, etc.
concealer + translucent powder and fix + that’s what I use 🙂
I don’t wear tinted moisturizers since my skin is quite oily.
this would have been great when i was in Barbados! so humid! it was hard to apply make up and i was have a LOT of issues with my skin 🙁
I did keep my eye makeup lighter and wore waterproof mascara which held up well in the salt water, as did Smashbox’s waterproof shadows! YAY!
I always slick on a gloss, and may use a stain underneath. Even if its summertime, i still love making a makeup statement some days!
🙂
I try year round to use products that have super lasting power on me but are still good for my skin and have spf in them. So I really don’t change that much in summer weather other than maybe I tend to wear less and go just with my tinted spf moisturizer. I have found this spring the new TARTE full coverage Amazonian Clay foundation to REALLY last a good 18 hrs. I cannot wait for it to come out in retail and not just on QVC as retail and TARTE.com will have more shade ranges than the Q offers. I land right between light and med on the Q offering right now. So that does control oil break through on me. I might be using that more this summer – hard to say as it’s new. I really lean as said, to my tinted spf moisturizer and if I really need it to last, a light covering of BE matte. However of late as I get older, mineral make up is not my best friend I am finding like it used to be.
I walk to work in a humid climate and still have not figured out a way to wear any foundation to work without it slipping off my face by the time I get to work due to sweat… so gross I just skip it!
Estee Lauder DoubleWear has been a lifesaver for me when I want to wear foundation in hot and humid weather (I’m a sweater). I use the Light version. It does not sweat off.
Thank God I live in the pacific northwest, Vancouver, so I never have that heat problem, GO CANUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I usually keep it light and use the least amount of products as possible. For face, I would use a lightweight tinted moisturizer, concealer, Mattifying powder in T-zone, Bronzer, and cheek stain. For eyes, Urban decay primer potion and waterproof mascara. I don’t have super oily skin, so I never wear a primer or use a ton of setting powder. I would just keep it simple on the lips with a lip balm with SPF aka TENDERTONE<3
I use my Loreal Mattyfying Sunscreen as a base(awesome product and coverage, last a good 12 hours!) over a moisturizer, and then dust a powder foundation on the cheeks and T-zone area. followed by bronzer/blusher
I live in Malaysia, where it is intensely hot, and humid:)
my skin gets oilier much easier and quicker here throughout the day, so I stick to mineral (powder) foundations, as I always feel liquid foundations just melt off my skin in the heat, and I use blotting papers through the day to keep myself oil-free, I always use powder products, as i feel they dont make my skin more oily or tacky-feeling, ie powder blushes and eyeshadows…~
We love Urban Decay setting sprays!! Either the All-Nighter or De-Slick. You must try them out! They will be a summer staple for us so that our face doesn’t melt off throughout the course of the day. 😉
I don’t wear foundation when it’s hot. I prefer the natural look 🙂
