Rant & Rave: False Eyelashes
This Week’s Topic: FALSE EYELASHES!
Your Mission: Tell us what you love, hate, or are otherwise indifferent to about false eyelashes. Do you use them all the time? What are your favorites (or least favorites)?
Thanks to Meme for this week’s topic!
i love the individual ones.. sometimes when there is an special event i apply a few at the outer corner of my eyes.. i think it makes me look very happy!
but well.. i’m always scared that they may stick to my hair!
I love false eyelashes. They really open my eyes and give them the lift they need. Mac #7 works great. Don’t know how to apply them myself though. My Mac makeup artist friend does it for me.
I’ve yet to try any false lashes! I’m always afraid that it will make me look like a drag queen, LOL! So many gurus on youtube use them to complete their makeup tutorials, and I think it can look absolutely gorgeous when the lashes are not outrageously long. I’d really like to try some.
I have never tried using falsies because I’m scared!! I’m so clumsy so I know I’ll end up gouging my eyeball with my nail or something. I still seem to do that on a regular basis WITHOUT applying false eyelashes, so I just imagine if I ever start…
I LOVE false lashes! I use them as much as possible (not to school & work, but when meeting up with friends or going out with the boyfriend). They make such a huge difference in my look, I feel naked without them! I’ve even started wearing bottom lashes (I made them myself by cutting the inner corners off of some of my uppers)…you can see my makeup look using both top and bottom lashes in this blog post here~ http://hachidork.blogspot.com/2011/04/shoppingholics-review-neo-dali-extra-in.html
One thing that a lot of girls don’t know when they start to use lashes is that you never use the glue that comes with them! False lashes always come with the worst glue, it doesn’t stick and makes it impossible to put them on. There’s a lash glue by DUO that’s available at Sephora and most drugstores, it’s the best and it lasts a long time too!
As for brands, I really prefer asian-made lashes. My favorites are by a Korean brand called Shisem. They’re super comfortable and easy to apply, they also last for a month! Some of the drugstore brands like Ardell are nice too, but they’re a lot more natural-looking and not as dramatic as I’d like. NYX lashes are the absolute worst. I don’t know why, but they are just so uncomfortable. They make my eyes itch and burn 🙁
Sorry for the comment essay, haha. I’m just so passionate about lashes!
I bought recently a pair of Sephora-brand lashes (they were called Geraldine) which came with the glue. I used them for an evening of rockabilly dancing and they stayed on all night! What’s more, they kind of gave me a hard time taking them off.
Hi Hachi
Are those Shisem lashes in the pic? I LOVE the look with bottom lashes! So pretty!
Yeah, those are Shisem! Thank you 🙂
Well i have mixed feeling about them. On one hand i like them, they can really make a look pop.
On the other hand if you are like me a four eyes 😀 it’s not the easiest thing in the world to wear, cause my false lashes are always sliding against my glasses when i blink, which gives a really funky, weird feeling.
And since i really don’t look like me with contacts, i just don’t wear false lashes anymore, which kinda sucks cause i have some pretty ones, just lying here.
I’ve never tried false lashes because of exactly that fear!
i bought my first false eyelashes a few weeks ago – i love them, but i didn’t have the opportunity to wear them yet.
i think there’s no such thing as too many too long lashes 😀
I LOVE false lashes! I’ve tried MAC and Make-up Forever false lashes which are all great, but the Ardell brand is my favorite. I think they are much easier to apply than the other brands I’ve tried. They are very natural looking and inexpensive (around $3-4). I usually get about 2-3 uses out of them if I take care of them really well. If you’re a begginner, I’d definetly start with Ardell. My least favorite brand would have to be Japonesque. The lash bands are quite thick and harder to apply in my opinion.
I LOVE false eyelashes, they just add that extra drama and complete my look!
i love false lashes! they add depth to the eye with that little je ne sais quoi! it can’t be pinpointed unless u’re up close or wearing a good set that looks natural. i wear them on special occasions (maybe even clubbing, nye, & the like) and when i do a super smoky LOTD. I love MAC’s #1 and #7.
I’ve never tried false lashes and have no idea how to put them on. On other people, I don’t mind them when they look somewhat natural, I think they can really make a look and open up your eyes. I mean, I don’t even mind when it looks really obviously fake, like when they blink or look down you see this like WALL of eyelashes kinda deal. However, I have this one “friend” who wears this hideous pair (imo) that gives her this dead, glassy doll eyes look (somehow). Needless to say, it creeps me out, and is probably why I’m not dying to give them a try anytime soon.
I never wear them myself, but I do use them on models. The weird thing is that they sometimes come loose after I put them on. Like in a corner it will start to come undone. I use Ardell glue, maybe I should switch glues?
DUO lash glue is the best! I can wear my lashes for more than 12 hours without worry 🙂 You can find it at Sephora and most drug stores.
You should put extra glue on the corners, then they won’t come undone. I also agree that DUO is great. I use the dark tone adhesive. It dries dark and I hardly need to touch up my eyeliner.
I have a confession: I am a crazy beauty maven, live and breath makeup, BUT have never worn false eyelashes in my life. Really. I love the idea of special-effect ones with feathers and polka dots and what have you. But the nice ones are so expensive, I’m afraid I’d tear them trying to get them off and only get one use out of $30 lashes!
NYX has some fun ones, pink feathers and rhinestones and such. I believe they are under $5 for a pair, I have seen them at Ulta. Might be a good way to try them out so you don’t have to care if you tear them… 🙂
Just applying them otherwise i would wear them more often. >_<
Also find individual lashes frustrating with my shaky hand to apply.
I used to wear false eyelashes every day when I worked at a bank. I retired last year after 35 years of working. I love false eyelashes but now I only wear them when going out. I love wispy styles and some of my favorites are from Red Cherry, Mac and Ardell. I have worn false lashes since I was 17.
I wore them every day all through high school and usually then skipped mascara. But I trimmed my false ones way down so they were just a tish longer than my own lashes. Now days, I do use a light coat of mascara first, then add my trimmed lashes. I highly recommend a tool that holds you faux lashes to let you get them up next to your eye and help place them right at the natural lash line. Then you can go back in with a more steady hand to carefully push them down till they really grab in place. I do have a problem with the outer corners lifting as my eyes tear a lot. Love to know if anyone has luck with a type of glue that keeps them down if you tear up a lot? Like many of you, I like to make the larger part of my lashes to that outside edge…but with that lifting, means I need to carry my glue and a pin or toothpick with me to put them back down when they lift on me on that end.
Oh, and I just buy mine at Sally’s or sometimes at Sephora (the Sephora brand). I even have bought the drugstore brand ones. I am not all that picky on the brand. I go for what they look like. I only want ones that look normal. I am with all you who think they are fab!
love love LOVE false eyelashes. MAC eyelashes are super uncomfortable though! Ardell and Quo are awesome.
I love that you can get really good ones on the cheap, and if you know how to remove and clean them properly you can get good uses out of them! It’s really a matter of being able to look at them and know what flatters your eye shape. for me, it’s the ones that are somewhat thinner, shorter on the tear-duct end and increasing in length to the outer edge. I like Red Cherry a lot, and they’re so cheap!! A lot of people say they work just as well as MAC… it would be really cool if you could do a comparison Christine!! I get them on ACW.
Love the way they look, hate the hassle of applying them. I’d rather pile on mascara!
It took me a while to learn how to apply them and I got it down, I LOVE my lashes but when I go out I always put on falsies for a little more drama 🙂
I love false eyelashes! I just recently started using them and I’m obsessed now! I love Model 21 lashes and the Korean brand Darkness lashes. I can’t use individual lashes because they’re so difficult to use. I have very sparse and short lashes and false lashes really help my eyelashes look so much better. I like Model 21 because one package has ten pairs and the price is great. I don’t use false lashes all the time, but if I really want my eyes to pop then I’ll definitely use them. I’ll probably wear them three times a week. I think they’re great and I’m always on the lookout for them.
I lOve wearing falsies I have recently worked out that I could just cut my random one sided ones in half and use them as outer corner lashes! They make my lashes look like my lashes just longer!
i love the fake lashes effect so i have quite a few but i dont use them often. the ones i prefer are the half ones, just on the outer corner: easy to apply and less fake looking than the whole black thick ones.
still trying to figure out if the lower fake lashes could look good or if they’re most suited for asian “gals”
Never tried them. They seem so uncomfortable.
I love the look of them, but they sure are difficult to apply correctly! I have only tried them a couple of times, every time it takes me multiple attempts to get them on right but I think its well worth it once you do! I got lots of compliments on my eyes those days! I have used the Ardell 110 and 108 lashes.
I use Latisse, so I don’t need falsies.
I loveee falsh eyelashes, I feel like they give a sort-of mystery type of look in the eyes..if that makes sense haha, the only thing that sucks for me is that, my eyes get watery so the glue doesn’t stick to the inner corners sometimes..so then I can’t wear them :/
false* (iPhone auto correct -_-)
Make sure you don’t glue them all the way inside the inner corner of your eyes. Leave a small gap. Get a waterproof adhesive like DUO.
I love lashes! If I have on makeup I have on lashes! Walgreens recently had a sale on Kiss lashes and I went crazy buying them. I like kiss #5. I use Duo glue and I found a really neat tool from Sephora that makes appling them so easy! It’s the eyelash applicator for $8 if anyone is interested. I don’t know why it works so well but I’m still surprised at how easy they are to put on with that tool!
I love false lashes. I dont wear them too often because I go to school full time for nursing and I dont have time to do that kind of stuff. But when I go out at night for drinks, or just a night out on the town.. I love to wear the corner ones. I actually forget what they are called. haha. But they are so easy to put on.
I love false eyelashes. I use Red Cherry ones and apply with Duo eyelash adhesive. They are so dramatic and makes my eyes pop!
I honestly NEVE wear them, I’ve only had them once in grade 2., They were purple and silver from the dollar store and really uncomfortable… but then again I’m only 13, so my opinion might change
I love the look of them on other people, but I have trichotillomania and compulsively pull out my eyelashes, so I know I would be ripping them off!
Seriously, check out Model 21 eyelashes. You get ten pairs for about $6 to $9 or so. I’ve worn one pair over five times and they’re still usable! My absolute favorite is 40T and another good pair is 2T. Check them out on their website. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to link to other websites, so just Google it. I’m kind of a newbie when it comes to false eyelashes and these are pretty easy to apply. And if you’re a beginner, you have ten pairs at your disposable in case you mess up or ruin a pair.
i absolutely LOVE false lashes. i cant live without them. i wear them everyday. they make all my eye looks so much better. i taught myself how to wear them by watching a lot of gurus on youtube. i struggled with them at first but now i can do both eyes in under a minute. theyre not as threatening as they look. and if you purchase the smaller, more natural ones, they dont look so “hooker-ish” lol. but personally, since i have big eyes, i can get away with them being a little bit bigger.
Ardel #311 are amazing! they’re the little half ones! So easy to put on. The ones I hate are the ELF ones! the spine is so flimsy! Its such a struggle to apply
i used to hate it, but i’m actually grown to love certain styles. i love model 21 lashes.
I Love Shu Uemura’s Partial Flare Eyelashes =)
Love false lashes, especially Shu Uemura smoky layers they have so much detail in them and they’re the best quality hands down. Japonesque has duped quite a few Shu Uemura lashes. Starting off with lashes can be frustrating. It takes a lot of practice, I’ve been wearing them for years and I finally feel I’m a pro at putting them on. I don’t get why people throw their lashes out after one use many lashes, I have had some for years just don’t put mascara on them and make sure you get all the glue off and they should last for awhile.
Unless it’s stage makeup or something editorial full strips look silly to me. They make the person look less attractive and seem like they’re trying to hard. Individuals are a little better, but not by much.
Lash extensions can be ok if they are applied well and look natural.
I LOVE false lashes. Ardell is great, and my favorite ones are Revlon. They always look natural but just enough pizazz to finish off a look! I hate to see girls that have the cheap ones where the individual lashes are so dense and close together that it looks solid and shiny. Its always more pretty to me when you cant tell unless you get really really close!
Im getting semi-permanent lashes this Saturday, Im so excited!
I love love love falsies; but only from Asian brands & Ardell. But I really don’t trust letting anyone including the makeup artists to apply them. The only thing I hate about wearing falsies is when they poke the inner/outer corners of my eyes ( this happened to me when I used those dirt cheap lashes.) Otherwise, falsies are my must have.
I love them but they are a pain in the neck to apply. I do it on very special occacions only. It’s so time demanding! But they do enhance dramatically your looks!
For a budget friendly lashes, I’ll stick to NYX, and for higher end, I’ll choose Shu Uemura & KOJI Dolly Wink (yes, both are Japanese brand).
I just bought a bunch of KOJI Dolly Wink lower lashes. I have next to no lower lashes and heard raves about them. I didn’t get any upper lashes because they’re so expensive! They look really cute, though.
I love false eyelashes too. My natural lashes aren’t very long. Even with mascara it looks like I have no lashes sometimes. So false lashes help. It still takes me a few tries to get them on correctly. I’ve never paid anyone to do them it have tried individual. It always feels like something is on ny eyes but I’ve gotten use to it. I’m still playing around with brands though
I finally got to wear false lashes. I went out with some friends on my birthday and thought ‘Why not?’. I wore some Ardell ones and they worked really well. I used to be scared of them but there’s a lot of great tutorials out there that make putting them on super easy! So I encourage people to wear false lashes because they’re fun and now you can bat your eyes and it looks cool! 😀
I think they are great, and make you look wonderful. I am using now the individual ones, they last a month. very nice
