- Haul: Too Faced Natural Love Palette, Tarte Make Believe In Yourself colletion (not everything but several things), Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation (repurchase), Lancome Teint Idole Foundation
- Weekend plans: I’m hoping to not have to deal with any major technology issues this weekend and get some much needed rest, haha!
- Are you better a listener or reader?: I’m better with a visual – I definitely do not concentrate as well on what someone says vs. reading what they say.
This week's doggo photo/video...

This week I hauled Tarte’s Make Believe in Yourself eye and cheek palette. I was trying to talk myself out of it, but oh my it’s just so pretty! My boyfriend understood entirely, of course! I also hauled the Ready, Set, Gold (35R) palette from Morphe and a new brush from Morphe for my highlight application. I really hope I enjoy my purchases because I’m officially on Makeup Lock Down. I can’t buy anymore for the foreseeable future. 🙁
My weekend plans are to clean the apartment (lame) and then reward myself with the worst things in life: a World of Warcraft marathon as Keeping Up with the Kardashians plays in the background. I know! I’m a bad person, haha! As for reading vs. listening I’m a better reader. Listening requires me to pick up on social cues which is difficult sometimes, and I do far better reading. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a bad listener, but social cues can be hard.
Fingers crossed that your last two purchases are amazing, Sarah! 🙂
Hey, if that’s what makes you happy, I don’t see any harm in playing WoW and watching reality TV!!
I do love me some guilty pleasures after housework! WoW is my shameless addiction but I am a bit ashamed of my choice in reality TV, lol!
If it makes you feel any better, I’ve watched Jersey Shore through multiple seasons multiple times 😉 For me, it is a glimpse into a life I don’t live (can’t even fathom living), entertaining and doesn’t require me to think – it’s about as close as I get to “shutting off.”
Sarah what do you like to watch? I am not a big fan of most of the Housewives shows but I am watching Mama June from Not to Hot. I think that is the name of it.
Hi Sarah, I’m a longtime viewer of the Young & the Restless and I’ll watch it while doing the dishes, multitasking or just plain sit down and watch it. When my family is together, we all watch it together and when we aren’t we chat about it. I make no apologies and you shouldn’t either! 🙂
I think that’s the only way to watch reality TV. Either sick or while doing something else!
Right? I love keeping it on just for background noise, haha! I’m really not a reality TV fan but for some reason I watch that particular show. Probably because it’s just sooo bad!
I am really jealous of your haul, Sarah, but I can’t buy EVERYTHING so I have to enjoy products I don’t purchase vicariously through Temptalia readers. I hope you’ll share your thoughts on that palette.
With me officially being on makeup lock down, I’m going to do a lot of vicarious living through others as well! Those were my last goodies and I’ll hopefully share my opinions on them! If anything I’ll probably write about them on my own blog since it gives me something to write about. 🙂
My guilty pleasures are Teen Mom and Real Housewives… my husband refers to them as my “girl shows” and refuses to be in the room when I watch, lol!
I also play WoW, but my PC seems to be very ill, it really doesn’t work at all, and the laptop is to old to use for gaming so I’m on a hiatus since more than a month. I miss it.
I hope you’ll have a lot of fun, playing and half watching the Kardashians.
I just got the tarte Maneater eyeshadow palette, pro to go eyeshadow and contour/glow palettes, and the 2 Casey Holmes highlighter palettes. Excited!
Awesome haul, Iris!

Haul:
ColourPop: Done Deal, Belle of the Ball. Belle is not that great (except the metallic); dry, dusty, doesn't blend well. I'm sorry I bought it.
Devinah Cosmetics: Pressed Matte Eyeshadow (Vixen, Verity, Seppia, Push, Miranda, Jaded, Infamy, Gaia, Fenella, Ethereal, Aria), LE Novelty Bad Romance, Shifter Face and Body Highlighter (Iridessa, Marina), Ice-Kissed Face and Body Highlighter, XXL Custom Pro Palette (2, sale – $10). Love their "rainbow" highlighters so much I thought I'd explore the brand. I just ordered this morning. And really, how can you beat an XXL palette for $10? (They are slightly irregular in that they have imperfections on the cover but I don't care.)
DUA Fragrances (Sale and 25% off) – Cupid’s Lust
Gerard Cosmetics (Sale, $10 each): Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Gloss: Candy Apple, Rose Hill. Don't have this yet but when they went on sale, I had to buy more. Formula rocks and I LOVE the lighted wand.
January Scent Project (Perfumer gave me a nice discount): January Scent Project Eiderantler EDP. This is an amazing ivy fougère.
Lucky Scent: 4160 Tuesdays The Dark Heart of Old Havana, Samples of Mancera Aoud Vanille, Slumberhouse Kiste, April Aromatics Purple Reign
MAC: Lipglass (Soar, Pinkarat, Heroine, Misbehaving), Lipstick (Foiled Rose). I should have this Monday or Tuesday.
Macy’s (15% off): ABH – Dipbrow Pomade (Ash Brown), Brow Duality (Matte Camille/Sand Shimmer), Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner (Black Ink)
Ofra ($5 off): Skin Sculpting Wand (Sunset), Lip Gloss Stick, Matte Eyeshadow (Purple Haze). I should have this by early next week. I was looking for a cool-toned cream contour product so we'll see.
Sephora: Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay, Stellar Metallic Moon Lipstick (Disco Moon 03), Herbivore Blue Tansy Mask deluxe sample
TJ Maxx: Too Faced Melted Metal Liquified Metallic Lipstick (Jam, TuTu, Bunny) – $5.99 each!
Ulta: Nyx (BOGO ½) – Prismatic Eyeshadow (Blue Jeans), Gel Eyeliner & Smudger (Annie/deep purple, Scarlette/dark brown, Emma/white), Color Mascara (Mint Julep, Forget Me Not, Pink Perfect), Vinyl Liquid Liner (Black); Butter London Glazen Eye Gloss (Oil slick/sparkling chameleon – ½ off)
Wet n Wild (Free shipping): MegaGlo Highlighting Powder (Lilac to Reality), MegaGlo Makeup Stick – Blush (Peach Bums). Finally was able to buy this highlighter. Since WnW has a $35 min for free ship (absurd for the price point of the brand) I didn't order when it was released. They offered free ship if you bought one of their MegaGlo sticks and since I didn't have a good peach one, it worked out. Not shipped yet.
Weekend plans: TJ Maxx is doing an event tomorrow morning so I may go to that. I am swinging by ulta sometime over the weekend to drop of some bags of makeup to my friend that works there. While I'm there I'm going to look at/test that Tarte shadow palette. I also want to pick up some Nyx Vivid eyeliners if they're still on sale. The JC Penney is having a going out of business sale so I might browse through depending on the crowds.
Are you better a listener or reader?: Both. I've always had to do both well for every job I've ever held.
I feel like those glosses you picked up from MAC will work will for Foiled Rose in particular – intentional or not? 😉
What a bummer to hear that Belle was such a miss!
Yes and no. I’m trying to get a bit more specific about buying colors that work for me. In this release, it just happened that the best shades for me also go together. 🙂
Michelle, you always get the best sample selection from Sephora! Every time i go to order something the points or samples are crap! Minus the bite mini I just got 😛
I try to only place my orders when they’re double cash back or have an excellent sample. I have 11,000 points and am never online when there’s a really good reward available though.
I loved the lip pencil swatches on your IG from Gerard. But I cannot for the life of me figure out which lipsticks they go with! IPad and other monitor colors may be off… one of my friends had such a bad experience with them, that I’ve been hesitant. Your IG is wonderful.
Oh thank you. Yeah that’s my one criticism of their website – it’s hard to pair liners with lipsticks (or gloss). So Cher is kind of a rosy mauve that pulls a bit warm/brown. Their matte in 1995 is similar. Bel Air is a rose but again it’s a warm/light one. it would probably work with their Vintage Rose (satin). Ecstasy might work with their Mystic Moon (satin)….They are pretty responsive if you contact them so I’m sure they could make recommendations if there’s something you’re looking for. Also, they are almost always having a sale. A recent promo for a discount is 35OFF (I think it’s still valid).
I saw the metallic melted lipsticks at our canadian version of tj maxxx but the shade looked awful on me. Sad!
Apparently Too Faced has liquidated their metallics because my friends in the UK are also seeing them in their TK Maxx.
Haul: Charlotte Tilbury Live Glow blush (that had been on my wish list for a long time), and I popped into Ulta and picked up Sila Smudge Sticks in Spice and Deep Burdundy – both repurchases.
While I was there I asked a SA about getting color matched in Shape Tape and she told me it was so thick and drying she wouldn’t recommend it for undereye coverage. She recommended Lancôme Teint Idole concealer- anybody have experience with that one that wants to share an opinion?
Weekend plans: Its supposed to be rainy here all weekend, so I’ll probably stay inside and play around with my bath crafts.
Are you better a listener or reader?: if it’s something instructional, I need a visual. Tutorial videos are the best! As for books, though, I’m a much better reader than listener. My mind tends to wander during audio books and I get annoyed that I can’t go back and re-read what I missed.
Smudge Sticks are so great! I really like them on the waterline.
Stay dry! 🙂
How do you like the CT?
Hahahaha, the SA is absolutely correct IMO. That’s exactly what I said about the Shape Tape! It is good for creating a cut crease though. I’ve heard good things about the Lancome but have never tried it. The Marc Jacobs Remedy works for me.
Have a great weekend!
Love Glow is nice, quite pink and quite pigmented. A little less shimmery than I expected. Thanks for the concealer reco!
Thanks for the feedback on Love Glow! That might work for me; esp. since I add highlighter anyway.
I worked for LANCOME for years and am still behind the counter a couple times a month. I’ve recommended Effacernes concealer for over 20 years, and I’m betting the Teint Idole is also a great concealer. Concealer gets tricky as we age (I generally don’t use it anymore). I recommend you get a sample to try before committing, if possible. Many of our beauty advisors mix the concealers with a touch of eye cream, and this might be a helpful suggestion for any concealer if you’re having issues with it being thick or dry.
OMG – where (if I can ask)? I also worked for Lancome (part time); although haven’t in a number of years.
I work in cosmetics at Bergners in Illinois.
So basically we work/worked for the same brand for the same company – I worked for the parent company BonTon! 🙂 Small world.
Lol, Michelle, yes!
Hi Julia, I’m a longtime user of Lancome Teint Idole foundation and also use the Effacernes under eye concealer however I don’t use it under my eyes! The shade number that matches my foundation is too light for my under eye area (it’s a beigy-white) but perfectly matches my body’s skin tone, so I use it to cover visible blemishes on my body, esp. in the summer. It’s a HG for that type of coverage. I have not gone back to Lancome to see if there is another solution because I’m fond of Bobbi Brown’s concealer and corrector. I’d give the Teint Idole a try, testing more than one shade, though it looks like we have 2 Lancome experts in the Temptalia family and I’d certainly consider their advice. Let us know what ended up working.
My grandson is here! Fox was born on 3-19-17. Here are some pics:

Haul: I bought a ridiculous amount of make up this week! I am going to split my haul over two weeks because I don’t want to write all this in one sitting.
MAC: Lipglass in Itsy Bitsy, two 242 shader brushes, two 239 eyeshadow brushes, Pro Longwear concealer in NC20, Vex eyeshadow, lip pencil in Stripdown, Kabuki Magic Eye Paints in Win and Overnight Sensation ( the blue and purple), Painterly Paint Pot, and lipsticks in Indigo-go, Matte Royal, Velvet Teddy, Myth, and Brave. This was such a fun haul for me, I am so glad MAC had a sale!
I took my granddaughter to Ulta for a make up haul on the day my grandson was born. I used over a year of accumulated points on her. She chose Too Faced Born This Way foundation and concealer, the Tartelette Matte eyeshadow palette, Too Faced Justify My Love blush, and Too Faced Melted in Chocolate Milkshake. I grabbed a Philosophy Microdelivery face wash and Tarte Fake Away Eye Highlighters. Walked out the door spending less than $50. I love the Ulta rewards program!
Weekend plans: Gym, cook, work.
Listening and reading are both strong skills for me. Must be why I loved college so much: lectures AND books AND writing, what could be better!!
Congratulations on your grandson, Tammy! 🙂 Hope he is healthy and doing great, as is mom and dad!
Tammy, Fox is so precious! Congratulations!
Thank you, Joyce?
Congratulations, Tammy! Sooo darling and I love the name ?
Thank you–I am working through my issues with the name, lol.
Fox is a great name! Solidified by the X-Files haha. And that is a seriously good-looking baby 🙂
Ok, Ginny, I’m coming around?
Congratulations – what a cutie! <3
Nice picks – can't wait to hear about the rest of your haul 😉
Thank you, Michelle! I think March is quickly becoming an expensive month for me, what with Bergners Goodwill Sale, Nordstrom triple points days, and all the new spring releases.
Understand! Bergners is under the parent company BonTon, which we have here…and they also have the Goodwill sale! I don’t know what happened to me this week either – I was planning on being on a low buy.
I have the Boston Store Goodwill Sale and am waiting for the Spring Chanel collection to come in.
Oooh – wish my store carried Chanel!
Congrats on your grandson, what a handsome guy he is!
Thank you, Emily. I think he is a very handsome boy?!
Tammy — congratulations!
Thank you, AB. This is such a happy event for our family.
Congratulations Tammy ! Beautiful pictures 🙂 He is one handsome boy for sure !
Congratulations Tammy! And welcome to the world Fox!
Thank you, Ouineque. Our little Foxy is being welcomed warmly into our family?
OMG CONGRATS!
Thanks, Erin. He was a little early but we are so glad he’s here!
Tammy, congratulations! Love the name Fox, and he’s so handsome!!
Thank you Katherine!
Big congrats to your daughter! And you! Fox is one handsome and precious baby, no “cone head” either! ???
Nancy, we Burtch women have our babies extremely fast, which leads to a perfectly shaped little head at delivery. All my babies came in 2-3 hours. Lea went from 2 cm dilated to 8 cm in one hour with Fox. No time for epidural.
Awww he’s a cutie! I love his stick up hair!!
Lol, Denise, lots of people are getting a kick out of his hair.
He’s BEAUTIFUL! Is there any better news than the arrival of a new a baby? It’s hard to beat that for making the world a better place. His little mohawk! xoxoxoxo
I love the name! Partial I know, because the literal translation of my maiden name is fox. Always thought it would make a cool name. 🙂
Well, now you know there is a real person named Fox in the world!
Congrats! Your grandson is beautiful.
Thank you, Maria!
What a gorgeous little darling he is! Congratulations to both you and your family. A precious little baby to love and adore. Everyone looks so well and healthy.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Congratulations, Tammy! He’s beautiful!
Congratulations! Fox is a gorgeous baby. I love his name. 🙂
Congratulations on your grandson, Tammy. He looks absolutely precious and your daughter and spouse look happy and grateful.
Haul: Wet n Wild Precious Petals highlighter, Jessie’s Girl black liquid liner pen, Rimmel Spice lip liner, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer
Weekend plans: My husband’s birthday is on Sunday so the weekend is all about him. Nothing in particular planned because he wants to do a bigger trip for our anniversary in May but probably a fun dinner still!
Are you better a listener or reader?: hmm maybe listener? Maybe equally okay at both? Not sure! 😛
Mellan is so precious. He looks like a doggie cinnamon roll!
Happy birthday to your husband, Joyce! 🙂
Happy birthday to your hubby!
What do you think about Precious Petals?
Thank you, Michele!
I like Precious Petals a lot. It’s bolder than a Reserve Your Cabana but tamer than Holly Goldhead. It just has such a nice sheen that makes you enjoy looking at it glow in the mirror! It’s not at all powdery (I feel like my RYC kicks up a lot of powder).
I like it swept all over my eyelids as well. Very happy with my purchase! Only thing I would change is the packaging. Mine doesn’t really “click” closed, and I feel like the lid doesn’t quite clear the product so it’s “pressing” it firmer.
Thank you so much! I love it when a product can multi-task like that too.
Happy birthday to your husband. Any plans in the works for your May anniversary?
Thank you, Tammy!
We’ll probably stay at an AirBnB in the Charlotte, NC area. We haven’t decided if we want secluded lake house or downtown high rise. We’re not huge planners so we’ll see where that takes us! We’ll be married 7 years 🙂
A B-n-B in Charlotte sounds perfect!
Happy Birthday to your husband Joyce and I hope you have a lovely weekend.
haha he’s so silly
Haul: I almost made it through the week with no makeup purchases haha
I got from Ulta:
Macademia Weightless Moisture Mask
Hair Tie Bracelent
2x Fiona Styles eye brow pencil
2x It Cosmetics Eye Brow Pencil
Made Yew You Look gwp
Also, I had the most stressful week of trying and failing presale after presale to get pit tickets for FGL x BSB. I finally was able to get them today during the public sale, but I think we broke the site. I got so many error messages.
Weekend plans: I’m heading to best friend’s house for the weekend. Can’t wait to see her!
Are you better a listener or reader?: definitely a reader. I’m especially terrible when someone gives me directions to get somewhere. I need you to draw it out as you’re telling me.
Oh, thank goodness you were able to get your tickets during the public sale, at least!!
Omg the cutest puppy curl!
HAUL: My thoughts on Chanel Codes Subtils and Jardins Eclatants quads for those interested. I think they’re both to die for. Jardins Eclatants might be slightly easier to wear and execute, and if you are a fan of warm neutrals AND Chanel’s formula I think it’s a total win. Codes Subtils is pretty sultry on me (fair-skinned) but on more medium skin tones I think it would be more of a soft-smoky look. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the darkest color pulls olive on me (I thought it would look charcoal, but the pearl really binds to the base which is something Chanel’s formula always excels in). This color really changes the direction of the palette and makes it a dream for brown eyes. Neither of the quads are unique in their color combos, though, I think it comes down to whether you are a fan of the formula (I am).
WEEKEND: Shopping/browsing if the weather is nice, but mostly just relaxing!
I’m definitely a better reader. It takes something very interesting to capture my ear over my eyes.
Happy to hear that you are enjoying both of your new quads, Ginny! I definitely like their current eyeshadow quad formula over the one from a few years ago.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Chanel Quads, Ginny. The two Codes quads are en route to my home now ( I try not to post hauls until I’ve had a chance to see and play with the product) and I was holding out on Jardins in hopes that Nordstrom will carry it.
Glad you’re loving your Chanel! I used to be a big Chanel buyer years ago and for some reason moved away from the brand. Recently I’ve started picking up more of their line and have also been happy with the buys. If you had to recommend one quad for someone with fair/light skin and green eyes (me – LOL), which do you think would suit better?
Out of the two mentioned above, Jardins Eclatants would be amazing on green eyes. But Chanel has a few other warm palettes like the one from last fall’s Red collection (can’t remember it’s long French name lol I think it’s Candeur something) and one called Spices which has some coppery colors.
Thank you!
Thanks, Ginny! I think Subtils would be wonderful to have. I’m going to order it. I too LOVE the Jardins Eclatants. Very, very happy with mine.
I really want the Jardins Lumiere because of the color combo. Christine’s reviews are usually right on, and it’s holding me back. 🙂
Ack. Subtils out of stock.
Really, did you check Nordstrom? That’s where i got mine.
Ginny, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on the 2 Chanel palettes. I’ve been waiting for Chanel’s Spring 2017 collection to come to my local Chanel counter. I asked my SA what she was wearing on her eyes the other day and it was Codes Subtil. I’ve been on the fence as I quite like the gold palette (I’m a Green Bay Packers fan, so green and gold is a Fall staple) but since it is permanent, I have time to decide. Last week I pulled all the gold hued powders I had and thought if I venture into my cream shadows, I probably have the dupes.
Ginny, did you try the Chanel Plisse highlighter by chance?
I didn’t try the highlighter, I’m trying not to be sucked in by LE highlighters anymore! I hope the collection comes to your counter soon! I find my counter is always behind and sometimes the SAs don’t even know about LE products.
Haul:
Two Chanel Quads:
1. Jardins Eclatants — New in the spring launch. Absolutely love it! It is very neutral, but when Chanel gets it right as it does here, it’s so much more than that. I think it’s very enhancing and lovely.
2. Tisse Vendome — Mixed. I was in a full “meh” mode about it until a woman in a coffee shop told me my eye makeup looked so nice. I think will either grow on me or not over time.
Weekend plans:
We’re still have this lingering bug, so we’re planning to keep it low key. My husband has some plans with his buddies tomorrow, so I may do some shopping. I need a couple of nice tops for work, which, for what I have in mind, I’m having trouble finding.
Are you better a listener or reader?:
100% reader all the way. Map or printed directions? No doubt what I’ll pick. Rather read the transcript of a Ted Talk than watch it most of the time.
Get some rest, Linda! Hopefully, by next FFHF, you’ll be all better!
Another positive review of Jardins Eclatants–I’m weakening!
Tammy,
I’m going for Subtils too. I think that will work well for me.
I REALLY, REALLY want Jardins Lumieres too. I may take a flyer on it, even given the B review. Those colors….
I’m actually with you on TED manuscripts, too!
Hope you can shake the bug soon! Good luck finding the right tops for work too.
“If I fits, I sits” — LOL
Haul: Have been looking for a peachier neutral and a light shimmer, lighter rosier beige (to replace a Clarins that was LE), and along the way found others I like, so: Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Toast; not surprisingly only medium quality in terms of pigment and durability. Anastasia singles Sateen, Blazing, Fawn and Glisten. Jack Black industrial hand healer lotion; so intensively hydrating I use it as a body lotion esp for elbows and other rougher spots. Smashbox camera ready BB foundation; not because I’ve run out yet but because the applicator has started coming apart and I don’t want to deal with it anymore. I have tried two local stores for E Lauder Naked Truth high luster lipstick, both are sold out so am trying elsewhere tonight.
Weekend: getting on a plane for 8-day business trip tomorrow, so everything until then is about packing, laundry, etc. etc.
Probably reading; it takes me awhile to settle down but once I do, I’m in. I’ve gotten feedback that I’m a good listener but I am rather sensory so I find take in a lot when I listen from others’ body language to environmental inputs, so I run into limits there.
Oooh, love Sateen from ABH. Also Blazing and Fawn are quite good as well!
The Jack Black Hand Healer is amazing as long the smell doesn’t bother you (I don’t mind it, but it seems like an acquired scent, lol).
Yeah I’m not too keen on the hand cream’s scent. I much prefer the Trader Joe’s hand cream in similar (but metal) packaging. It’s a delightful clean floral scent–something I would expect from Shiseido. And it’s only $5! It’s been my best friend this winter.
Yes, I don’t love the scent but I do love the effect so went for it. However, great to know about the TJ’s option! Thanks much — I am definitely checking it out.
Haul: Buxom Pastel Persuasion™ Eyeshadow Palette I got on clearance with all permanent shades. New Wet in Wild and Hard Candy liquid lipsticks.
Weekend plans: Same! it’s cosplay crunch time as well and making shoulder armour is hard. lol
Are you better a listener or reader?: I’m better with visuals as well, but listening over reading for sure being dyslexic.
Good luck getting your cosplay outfit in order!
Have you watched the new series Cosplay Melee?
I want to, I’m not sure what night it’s on for Space in Canada yet.
I recorded the first episode and almost finished watching it – it’s pretty good and lots of fun to watch.
OMG cosplay crunch time can be brutal! Good luck!
UGH. I feel you! I’m currently re making my giant staff for Anime North (if I remember correctly you’ve been going to AN forever right? I’m on my 5th year there!) That my father broke 😛
Yes! Last year was the first time since 2001 I had not gone. I’ve been cosplaying since 2002. lol
I’m working on Costume Con for April and Anime North for May two cosplays. But I’m using March to work on my thibra piece for Anime Noth before switching back to my other cosplay dress, (all the parts are done other than the wig and sewing up the dress for April) 😉
Ah, Mellan in a yoga pose! No Downward Dog for him, he’s doing the Cinnamon Bun Dog, ahahaha
*Colour Pop – Pink shadows (Fair Play, Poodle, and Pebbles. Fair Play and Poodle are 1/2 shade close to each other, with Fair Play a bit more berry pink and Poodle being a bit redder), Green/Gold shadows ( Game Changer, Sideline, Up and Up, Play by Play -all gorgeous) and Neutrals ( Cloud Nine, Top Notch, Note to Self, Save It for Later – all great quality) –these are all going into various custom Z palettes
*MAC 25% Off Sale – Caitlyn Jenner (Glowing Gold shadow, Soar Lip Pencil, Tolerance Lipgloss – all swatched well), Zoom Lash in Plum Reserve ( only swatched but gorgeous purple)
*Macy’s 15% Off Sale + store return credit – Tarte Metallic shadow in Poker Face (beautiful silver lilac purple), and MAC Lip Pencils in Nightingle, Beet, Half Red, and Boldly Bare
*Weekend -it’s been a cray busy week at work, so need to relax, test tons of new makeup, do some returns, and usual chores
*Reader -definitely prefer to read
Soar should be a great, versatile liner to have in your stash, Katherine!
Cinnamon Bun Dog! ? Love it!
Haul – I got a few of L’oreal’s new Gel Crayons on a whim, and now I want every colour – the blue in particular is gorgeous! Have you tried them Christine?
Listener or Reader – I prefer reading than listening to learn something, but I remember things better by hearing than seeing – I have terrible visual memory.
Oops just remembered that it might be UK/Europe only product. Still; anyone that can should check them out!
I don’t think so, sorry!
OH those crayons sound promising!
Will you be reviewing Colourpop’s Spring collections? I’ve been waiting to hear your thoughts on them before buying anything 😀 Hope you have a great weekend!
Sorry, I don’t have anything to review right now! I am swamped with what I’ve already shown via sneak peeks.
I was hoping to see ColourPop’s Nectar and pink collections reviewed as well. Just as good since I probably have dupes for all of them. But I’m tempted by some of the Nectar products…..
Denise, Michele and I both got some items from the ColourPop Pink collection-see our responses to Katy.
Christine, I hope on not stepping on your toes, so please feel free to delete this and not “approve”!
Katy, I bought the pink palette (Belle of the Ball) and cheek duo (Done Deal). I posted swatched of the eyeshadows this morning and will have the cheek palette swatches up tomorrow morning (IG and twitter @BInxcat4ever). IMO, the eyeshadow palette is so-so. The 3 mattes were dry and kicked up dust while swatching and were a tad difficult to blend. The metallic was fine. They may do better over primer. I will try to wear the palette over the weekend to test. The cheek palette, however, swatched beautifully. It was pigmented, the mill was fine, and it was not only buildable but also blendable. I didn’t purchase any of the singles but I know other Temptalia readers did, perhaps they’ll respond with respect to their shadows for you….
Katy, I have 3 shadows from the CP Pink collection, have only swatched on my arms, all were pigmented. Fair Play (matte hot pink, a bit stiff and dry but think will be ok over primer), Poodle (matte hot pink, smooth, good quality), and Pebble (metallic orange pink, good quality but odd color for me, the CP website shows it as a lot more pink). The first 2 are very close to each other, with Fair Play pulling slightly more pink and Poodle slightly more red, no need to get both in my opinion. Michele and I compared swatches online, and the single in Fair Play swatched much better than the one the Belle of the Ball kit. I also got some of their Neutral and Greens/Gold shadows –see my comments under my FFHF post. Hope this helps!
Katy, I wanted to follow-up on the ColourPop Pink that I bought. I wore the blush duo yesterday. It’s beautiful. Went on like a dream and wore all day. It’s buildable. You have to watch the pink blush as it’s VERY pigmented. It does pull decidedly warm so I’m giving mine away but it’s perfect for someone that can easily wear warm pink blushes and highlighters.
Am wearing the pink shadows (palette) today. It applied much better than it swatched, probably bc I don’t swatch over primer. It’s also very warm, except the metallic which is cool-toned. That said, the mattes were very dusty and you have to be sure you get the excess off your brush before applying or it will fallout everywhere. The metallic, which I used as a lid shade, had no issues with fallout with regular primer applied with a ColourPop brush dampened with some Nyx Dewy Spray. The mattes worked just fine and were buildable and blendable. I can pull off the warm pinks in this palette because I have green eyes and the metallic sets off the warm a bit. Hope tis helps!
Haul: OHHHHH Nelly, I’ve hauled like a boss. I had a really shitty day yesterday so I put in a huge order of supplements and asian skincare items on Amazon. I feel a Sephora order and an Ordinary haul in my future next week. I got stuff from Su:m 37, Klaris, I am, Whamisa, and another brand I can’t recall. I also got vitamins, omegas, and Cosequin for the pup. Hopefully it will help him. Oh, the brand is Benton. I may also go on a furnishings/decor/jewelry/clothes haul too. I’ve been so in the dumps but I realize that shopping doesn’t cure all ills BUT there are a million things I’ve been putting off repairing/replacing/repurchasing. Now that money is more even and steady, I can afford to spruce things up where needed. I just have to start figuring out what is a need and what is a “want”.
I also got to use Bite Pastille for the first time last Sunday and holy cow, it’s an HG instantly!
Weekend: Last weekend among the wreckage of a shitty week at work and hime, I got notified that a friend of the family (my aunt’s best friend) who I was close too as a child and young adult passed away. I can’t make the funeral today, so after work I’m heading out to a bar for the first time in a long time. She was a bit of bar fly and Karaoke nut, so I’m kicking off the weekend in her honor. I honestly can’t tell you when I was at a bar last. Other than that food shopping and games with friends is probably on the table.
My work situation from last week got ironed out, I just got a new set of responsibilities. When you’re the only woman at a tech firm, it’s like the men get together and decide you need to have to do this stuff because it’s “women’s work” or “a waste of their time”. As for home, my husband and I are struggling with his return from 1.25 years away but we made some decisions and are working on it and trying to allow us time to adjust to being us again. Thanks to you all for all the words of encouragement. As for pupdates, Elroy is all healed up sans his nose issue, which he’s still got 2 weeks of meds for.
Reading/Listening: I’d like to think I’m good at both but I’m probably better at reading. When I’m listening, I’m doing a ton more in my head like comparing it to already held knowledge/bias, thinking of questions, and making arguments for points that may me need to be debated. I’m also trying to suss out the persons state who is speaking, mentally and emotionally. With reading, I can take my time to digest and cross-reference so it’s my favored method for learning and communication.
Ps. Sorry for the ramble and doom and gloom!
I hope you enjoy your new goodies, and I’m happy to hear that money is steadier now! 🙂 That must be such a relief!
Best wishes for working everything out with your husband! xoxo
Sorry to hear about your family friend. Glad things are looking better at work, home, and with Elroy. And hope you’re enjoying the results of your retail therapy!
Hi Erin,
I too work with ALL men. As in I am the first woman in a director role in the history of the organization. LOL! The only other women are in support roles.
I will say, for an organization like mine that is so old school, the men I work with are remarkably supportive. I’ve yet to have any overt experience that left me uncomfortable, and I’ve been there for years. That said, I think it’s partly due to comfort in my own skin — not easy to have accomplished, and it was hard, hard won over decades. It really, for me, is an age thing.
But I have learned to emit the vibes that say, “don’t even THINK about giving me ‘woman’s work’.” I always keep calm, think in advance about how to be strategic to get what I want, and am not afraid to take my place in with the men leaders, and toot my own horn when necessary. They have come to rely on me greatly, and know they need me.
Rambling here…but, I will say this. If I could not have created this nice work reality for myself, I would have gotten another position. Life is too short to be buffeted about by those who are not supportive and who are users. Take your rightful place, know you deserve it, and carry on with strength and confidence. xoxo
I’m sorry for the loss of your friend.
I can’t imagine being away from my husband for that long. If you have access to counseling, that can be really helpful.
Glad to hear the money situation and Elroy are both doing better.
Mellan is such a charmer!
Haul: Nordstroms: Louboutin matte lip color in Survivita, Chanel Illusion de Ombre in New Moon (repurchase), Armani Eyes to Kill in #4 and 8 and picked up testers of the Cle de Peau Fluid Foundation.
Sephora: Natasha Denona All Over Glow Face and Body highlighter palette in shade 01 Light, Bite Beauty Prismatic Pearl Lip Gloss in Oyster Pearl and Rose Gold, Farsali Rose Gold Elixir, Estee Edit Mattified Lip in ABT Last Night and Ouai Texturizing Spray.
Weekend : drive back to Montana.
Better reader.
How are you liking the Louboutin formula, Deborah?
Haul: I made my first new Chanel purchase ever, and I don’t regret it! Jardins Eclatants is super flattering and super easy to work with. You can go very light and subtle but also smoky, using more of the two darker shades. Quality is amazing, reminds me of the holiday quad from a couple of years ago, Harmonie du Soir, this one has almost the same buttery feel to it.
Weekend plans: lunch with my family on Sunday!
Listener or reader: I completely agree with Tammy on this one: Listening, reading (and writing) are what I am good at. I need both (all three) in my job(s).
Congrats on your first Chanel product — what a lovely quad you picked!
I had some Chanel already Christine, but I bought most of it second hand. This was a complete new experience, hahaha!
I agree Ouineque! I am happy you’re happy too! The quad is beautiful, versatile, and flattering. I’m really happy I got it.
Still want the other one too…. 🙂
Hahahah, Linda, my desires are completely fulfilled (for a little while, I guess). I didn’t even think about the other one anymore. It’s still available for some time I guess, you have time to think about it.
Haul: I’m debating buying a few of the Wet n Wild gel lip liners since I’m almost out of my discontinued ColourPop shades. Other than makeup, I got a new pair of LuLaRoe leggings! Tarte can talk about unicorns all they want, but I swear LLR leggings are made of unicorn hair. So ridiculously soft.
Weekend plans: Quick visit to the vet for my dog Hamilton since he’s been on a deep skin mite treatment for about a month, doing laundry, and packing for our choir tour to Anaheim on the 6th. Nothing particularly interesting happening.
Are you better a listener or reader?: Reading, all the way! I grew up maxing out my library card limits about every two weeks because I absorb information 10x faster if I read it. Funny how I would end up in an immersion linguistics program and an a Cappella group because I suck at processing audio! ?
Hope your pup is doing okay, Sarah!
Haul: Nothing beauty related, but my new Glamorous maxi dress arrived in the mail. It’s pretty, but it need to be hemmed up.
Weekend plans: I may be able to be my grandmother’s home attendant. We need to fill out paperwork and get through some red tape, but I hope I get to do the job because it will be mutually beneficial for us. I’ll be spending the weekend looking into that.
Are you a better listener or reader?: Reader. I’m a visual person and autistic. I understand things better when I see them.
Aww at round Mellan! Zoe will wait for me to go to sleep because she loves sleeping on my bed. She sometimes even rests her back on my legs and warms them. 🙂
I’m glad I’m not the only visual person – I just feel like I learn/retain better when I see things.
Aww, Zoe is so sweet!
Haul: Urban Decay Naked concealer and green corrector. I also received my two Dior Addict Lacquers in Indie Rose and LA Pink, and my Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder (this is the PERFECT grayish brown for contouring!).
Weekend plans: I have a 5K run this Sunday, and have to go to the expo on Saturday to pick up my bib.
Listener or reader: I’m a much better reader. My mind can wander if I’m listening to someone but I’m a very focused and fast reader.
So happy to hear the Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder is perfect for you!
Good luck on your 5K!
Oh, I finally bought the KA too. Agree completely works really well. If you’re looking for a cream one, I also just bought the Ofra one in Sunset and it was a good cool toned one too.
Good luck on your run!
Thanks Michele, I’ll look into that one. I usually like cream products a lot for the face (blush, highlight…).
Lulle, if you decide to order (and btw they have a Nikki Tutorials Collab releasing if that interests you) I believe you can get 30% off with the Code: BEAUTY
HAUL: Colourpop Double Play Pressed Powder Face Duo-Absolutely in love?
WEEKEND PLANS: My cousin Amanda is getting married to the love of her life & i’m so excited for them!
READER by far lol, if someone tells me something I usually can’t remember it after a few minutes!
Congrats to your cousin! 😀
Thank you!!
Curled up like a honey-bun! Or a cat? LoL!
Haul: I wasn’t going to go on a binge, but I did. Last Friday night, I peeked into MAC hoping that SA wasn’t there. She wasn’t, thank goodness! So I had to stop in and get Sweet Heat EDES and a Pro Pan of Twinks, both are stunning together! @ Ulta, my Benefit Porefessional BD sample, used my $10 off to get a new Nyx Taupe Blush, Essence Midnight In Paris Gel Liner pot, and Nyx Faux Black Eye Liner in Black Hole. Also bought a fresh WnW Reserve Your Cabana, unfortunately it seems that this new one is lighter than my last pan! BOO! Then 2 Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Nail Polishes in Double Down (rose-gold) and Win Big (violet base with a duochrome gold glitter).
Weekend plans: Being emotionally/ mentally burned out, I’m going to try to decompress. All because I went on Ancestry.Com. and found out that my bio father Melvin Gay Long died in Dec, 1976 in Spokane Washington at only 47 y.o., so very unfortunately, I can not learn HIS account of events, HIS side of my conception. Cannot get to meet him, either. I’m just feeling very sad. But I also have to keep to my schedule. So I’ll probably do hair/ nails today so that I can hopefully hit the park and just sit watching the ducks and geese on the water. Meeting on Sunday, of course.
Better listener or reader: Listener for gut level impact. But that all depends on the DELIVERY. If a talk is given in a clear manner, animated and lively, giving analogies and comparisons, stats and such, I DO pay attention and absorb it! Being ADD, I need all of that liveliness. Yet with reading or seeing visuals, I retain much more on the thinking level.
I usually think of him as a croissant since he’s yellow, lol! Twinks is such a great MAC eyeshadow! Wish all of them were that good.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Nancy, in both ways – not to meet him but also not to learn more about your story.
Twinks is a rare beauty. It is that perfect deep chocolate brown I’ve been searching for.
Thank you, Christine. I never imagined that I could feel so sad over a man I never got to meet or know. All I have are his photos, some of his personal history, and my mother’s side of it. So many loose ends and unanswered questions. All that, plus his age. My goodness, he was only 47, still so young! Tragic.
*hugs* Maybe you will find another way to tie up a few of those ends and answer some questions (maybe not all) – fingers crossed something presents itself!
That would be wonderful! I can only hope and pray for a miracle.
Nancy, I was immediately attentive to your father story, as I was given up for adoption at birth. When I was searching for my birth mom (I found her 26 years ago) it was such an emotionally charged experience. I had so many unanswered questions, hopes, and anticipation. Finding her healed one of the deepest wounds of my life, and finding her already gone would have been very upsetting. Finding my father, on the other hand, was not essential for me: I started to search, was just $500 away from actually finding him, and I just stopped. I don’t know why but I do trust my instincts so I am fine with not knowing.
I am sorry that your father is already gone and your story is incomplete because of that. This is a real loss. Sometimes people have someone in their lives they are very close to–a mother, sister, friend–so if you find your extended family, they might be able to provide some of the information you seek.
Tammy, please feel free to PM me. I too am an adoptee from birth. Found my bio mother at 19 y.o., quite an interesting experience I must say.
Sending hugs to all you ladies who didn’t get a chance to grow up with their bio-parents – sonething that other people are taking for granted! – life is not easy for us!
hey Nancy, hope you can relax a bit over the weekend. I cannot imagine how tough this news must be for you.
Nancy, I’m so sorry to hear about your bio dad. ((((((Hugs)))))))
Thanks, Rachel. This is one of those times when ignorance might have been bliss. But I just couldn’t seem to stop digging for answers on again off again over the years, so I really ought to have been ready for anything. I wasn’t, though.
Urban Decay sales lead to 3 Urban Decay makeup setting sprays (two All Nighters and one Chill for when I’m in Florida), the Smoked palette (totally have dupes, but for $20 I just couldn’t resist ten shadows, an eyeliner, and a mini primer potion), and a Sephora perfume sampler. I think that’s it for this week. Sales/discounted prices get me every time…
Also, that doggy! <3
Smoked palette for $20 is a great deal!
I took advantage of the MAC 25% off sale as well as Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty Sale:
From MAC I got their Mineralize Moisture Foundation in shades NC15 and NW15 to mix together, a refill of their Cleanse Off Oil, and I’m trying out their lip primer balm.
From Ulta I picked up two of the Lorac Porefection Baked Perfecting Powders–It’s my HG, everyday powder foundation, and is half off! I always stock up during this sale and it holds me over until the next sale.
MAC’s Cleanse Off Oil is fab!
What tool do you use to apply the LORAC powder foundation?
I have an Eco Tools blush brush that is perfect for it! I think the brush itself is too big for blush, but is lovely for powder.
I love MAC’s lip Primer, I use it everyday!
Haul: I went bananas after being on a low/no buy for a month or two!
I picked up:
Essence make me brow gel, Essence Lash Princess mascara, and Essence Pure Nude Highlight.
NYX Dark Circle corrector in 03 medium
Ardell Natural 120 Lashes (LOVE these!! These are what I wish my natural lashes looked like 😛 )
ELF Poreless primer
ELF Buffing eye brush (This is THE PERFECT eye brush for my hooded eyes!!! I highly recommend it for any other hooded eye people!)
ELF Foundation Blurring Brush (AMAZING!!)
Real Techniques Expert Face brush (A back up! I needed more foundation buffing brushes as I only owned one before!)
Garnier Pink Cap Micellar water
Also my best friend from NYC sent me a surprise package of makeup brushes from Harmon’s down there!
🙂
Weekend plans: I’m driving down to Toronto on Sunday!! My best friend of FIVE YEARS, that I met online. Is taking the train from Montreal to Toronto and we’re going to meet in real life for the first time!! I’m so excited to actually hug her and tease her to her face!!! 😀
Listener or reader: I’m neither. I have really bad Inattentive type ADHD. So reading is SO hard. I start zoning out. And listening is EVEN WORSE. Sad sigh!!
Yay for Pure Nude! That should be lovely on you, Shannon 🙂
Have a fabulous first meeting!! I met my husband after knowing him online for six years 😉
I love it SO much so far!! It’s the perfect highlight shade and tone for me (not too deep, but not too stark!!), and since it’s more subtle, it’ll be a perfect summer highlight for when my oily skin is going into overdrive!
AWWW!! That’s so sweet, Christine!!! I remember being a reader back when your husband proposed, and it MELTED my heart ahaha!!!
<3
So what is your preferred way of learning? By doing things?
For me, what always worked when I was in school, was hands on learning!
I learn by touching, and feeling!!
So I learned volume by using playdough. that kind of thing!! It really helps people with learning disabilities or ADD like myself!
Haul: yet another MUFE concealer (trying to hit on the right colour), UD Mrs. Mia Wallace Vice lipstick (oh how I love this colour!) and an amazing eye serum from Jouviance (though that might have been last week).
Plans: younger son might be home; friend is coming to stay for the weekend so I want to make a citron tarte (she always brings some store bought dessert, which is kind of her but store bought rarely measures up to home baked) so I’m hoping I have both the time and energy (she wants to go fabric shopping which leaves little time for baking).
For entertainment, listening wins out…I LOVE audio books but find that when I sit down to read, I end up nodding off. With an audio book, I can do other stuff – wash dishes, do meal prep or tidying up while listening to a good. For learning stuff, it’s probably a combination of both, with reading/book slightly in the lead.
Fingers crossed this shade is the right one, Mariella!
I need to try audio books – I started one but did not make it through more than a couple of chapters, lol!
Audio books are best when you are doing something boring like driving a distance driving on errands I like then for walking running sometimes.
I commute 2.5-3 hrs 3-4 days a week and do self improvements ones a lot ones about forgiveness, letting go stuff I need to work on. I figure if I space out my subconscious hears it! Lol
This weekend haul Clothes from Nordstrom’s, J.Crew and my favorite for unique Anthropologie. Tops mainly also capri pants and shorts.
This weekend I am actually getting out there might be an earthquake or something strange is going to happen.
It will be dinner with some family at a restaurant which is very rare but I am really looking forward to it.
Sounds like someone is getting ready for summer!
Enjoy your dinner with family!
Awwww, Mellan looks so comfy. 🙂 How are his copper levels doing now that he’s been on meds and diet for a little while? Is he feeling perkier?
Haul: Nyx Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Ruffle Trim, French Maid, Baby Doll, and Caberet Show. I love the colors and formula. The formula reminds me a lot of Ofra’s. NYX HD Photogenic Concealer Wand Porcelain (I haven’t tried it yet). Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet: Three lovely eyeshadows and a Mystic Matte liquid lipstick. I’m not sure the dark cool brown Mystic Matte looks good on me, so I might combine it with one of their toppers. Medusa’s Makeup sub box literally just arrived, so I haven’t tried anything yet: Eye Dust in Wasabe (bright seafoam green with teal shift), Lip Paint in Get Lucky (hot pink), Stick It eye primer, and Lip Stick in Lydia (beautiful lavender satin; I love the color and the name).
Other: I also bought a couple new coloring books, one with cat designs, and one with flowers, birds, etc. We got a used Saturn in immaculate condition from a friend’s parents, so hubby will use it as a commuter car. His truck needs transmission work, so it will be good for him to have a vehicle again till we get it fixed.
Weekend plans: Both my husband’s and our younger son’s birthdays are next week, so we’ll be planning what we want to do to celebrate. The kids want to see Logan, but hubby and I are undecided whether we’ll go. We haven’t kept up with the X-Men movies very well.
Are you better a listener or reader?: Reader, no doubt about it. I’ve always been a visual person.
No new results yet – hopefully, next week, I’ll get updated results, though!
What do you use to color with, Rachel? Pencils, pens?
I hope you get the updated results for Mellan in a timely manner. You had to wait so long last time.
I mostly color with pencils, but sometimes watercolor markers. I want to get some gel pens and try them. They can be really pretty for doing mosaics and mandelas, and other intricate designs.
Haul: MAC : 25% off Crosswires lipstick, Copperluxe pearl fusion eye shadow palette, Dazzle shadow in I like 2 Watch
JD Glow cosmetics: 15% off I brought several Galaxy (duo- chromes) eyeshadows they are so pretty and pigmented I just about own the whole collection! , Rosie metallic lipstick and Leather matte liquid lipstick, Beyonce highlighter- hope I like it because originally brought their Egyptian highlighter and the glitter was too large but I love the color so I’ll wear it occasionally.
Nordstrom: Jouer Frost Bite lip topper , and my most extravagant purchase – Frederic Malle Carnal Flower Hair Mist hopefully it’ll be as good as the perfume . For $170 it’s supposed to be too powerful to mix with other strongly scented hair products or perfumes. I love Carnal Flower so we’ll see.
Weekend Plans: Wash my hair, might run to Ulta to check out the items that will be on sale want to see the Laura Geller blushes
Are you a better reader or listener: I’m an avid reader so that’s one of my passions, I listen to audiobooks when I’m driving or doing housework, I pride myself on being a good listener. But I’m a introverted reader whenever I get down time.
Crosswires! Such a pretty shade 🙂
Keep us posted on how well the hair mist performs!
Yes it is pretty! Thanks to you , I brought it from your list of Best of MAC lipsticks 🙂
I haven’t had a haul in a while, I was waiting for Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty. Now that it’s here, I’m going to be spending a lot of time there lol. I have my eye on a few things (lol.. I have an eye on everything lol).
This weekend I’ll just be staying at home (still waiting for Spring).
I’ve been told I’m a very good listener, but I love reading as well. Can’t decide.
Enjoy shopping Ulta’s sale, Kathi! What are a couple of things you’re hoping to get?
Haul: I did a bit too much damage to my wallet this week, though it was planned… I picked up my pre-ordered Jo Malone’s Whisky & Cedarwood cologne from the Bloomsbury Set collection.
I also wandered over to the NARS counter after the Jo Malone event at Nordstrom and got shade matched for a few things (which was part of my plan for the day). I went home with their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in the shade Finland, the new Soft Matte concealer in Crème Brûlée (which surprised me as I’m usually Vanilla or even Chantilly but it worked really well) and one of the Velvet Lip Glides from their Pop Goes the Easel collection in Impossible Red. She threw in a generous amount of freebies as well- a mini Velvet Lip Glide in Bound, a mini Multiple in Orgasm (which is still huge!), and a mini Velvet Shadow Stick in Oaxaca (which we use as a smudgey eyeliner when she did my makeup, and the mini will last AGES). That was cool and I was surprised how well Impossible Red (it’s like a bright raspberry red) worked on me. If anyone is near a Nordstrom I highly recommend checking that collection out as it’s exclusive to them.
I also swung by Sephora to pick up the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel, as I’ve been wanting to get it for ages for my “3-5 minute makeup look” which some of the NARS stuff was also a part of.
I had placed a Sephora order earlier in the week which came today to get the Hourglass Lip Stylo in Activist and the NARS blush in Dolce Vita (and now I have all their Dolce Vita items!). I used a promo code to get a mini Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask.
Now I have everything I need for my “need a bit of makeup but don’t have much time and don’t want to look too made up” look- tinted moisturizer, the soft matte concealer, brow gel, mascara, and either lip balm or a lip stain. A few minutes and I’m out the door!
Weekend plans: Chill out and recover from yesterday (a Jo Malone event and overall outing with my mom) which was fun, but for chronic illness means a few days of rest to recover.
Are you better a listener or reader?: I work best with both. I remember at university the classes I did best in were ones with both slides, the textbook, a bit of lecture from the prof, and them open discussion (Socratic style). I find my brain gets distracted easily if there’s only one medium in place. I’ve tutored a lot of kids that are actually really bright but not doing well because they don’t have a mixed-media teaching environment.
Impossible Red is gorgeous! 🙂 A generous SA is a really good reason to shop in person!
Hope you get some much needed rest this weekend, Anne!
A snuggly picture of Mellan!
Haul: Becca Jacklyn Hill Blush palette – it is really gorgeous (though expensive here at $89), but a treat.
Weekend plans: Visit another fete on Saturday, housework, catching up with some friends on Sunday for lunch.
Listener/Reader: As a former teacher, I know the power of a visual. Most people are a combination of visual and process learning ( show me how to do it), so I need to hear it, see it and be shown. However, I am a great reader and prefer books over TV or movies anytime.
Another busy weekend it sounds like, Genevieve! Have fun with friends 🙂
I got abh moonchild and accidentally ordered two so gonna give one to my neighbor as a late bday present.
If the weathers good I’m going for a small plane ride with my friend I’ve never flown in a small plane– not really a big fan of flying but should be exciting! Then dinner and hanging with him and another friend. All on sat nite.
I hope to cycle and run too and cook some food.
Probably better at reading and watching videos of swim strokes helps me more than reading about it but I love audio books when I’m driving or running.
I bet your neighbor is going to love her birthday gift – worth the wait 😉
Had to comment on video for swim strokes. Absolutely! Know what will (and I say “will” with confidence 🙂 ) help you make enormous strides in your own swimming? Have a friend tape YOU.
Forget about being self conscious (I know it can feel that way.) Just a few seconds with your phone from the end of the pool, then directly over you and you will be able to correct and modify so much. It made ALL the difference in my swimming to be able to SEE what I was doing rather than just THINK I was doing it right. FWIW. I love to swim.
I’m sorry Nancy the sadness of regrets is rough. Maybe he has some family you can connect with? If we lived closer I’d loan you my dog Scout he’s a comforter.
Linda that’s a great idea!! Thanks!! I learned freestyle from the total immersion video. I need to perfect the flip to turn.
I want to do a half iron man for my 60th this summer or fall.
Want to?! You WILL! I have done three full Ironman races, and six halves. I stopped counting at 80 tris at the other distances. I did it for decades. It’s a wonderful goal, a very satisfying endeavor. I don’t race anymore, but will do what I can to have other experience to triumph of reaching that goal. xoxo
Thanks for the support Linda. You have an amazing record! I did my first tri at 50 and only do one a year although have skipped some years. I find the training to be the best part.
I’ve placed but never won my age group altho at my age it’s not real competitive. I’ve been working 60-70 hrs a week lately but going to interview for a different job this week. Same company better hours.
Did I mention I totally learned freestyle from the TI VIDEOS?
Haul: MAC lipstick in Ablaze (looooove), In Extreme Dimension mascara in Squat It Sugar (nice, probably won’t repurchase because there are a million brown mascaras out there, especially at the drugstore), lip pencil in Embrace Me (got it on sale, now discontinued/out of stock), Pro Longwear blush in Rosy Outlook (will probably return since it seems a bit patchy and also similar to shades I already have).
Weekend plans: On Sunday, my geomorphology class has a field trip to some local dunes, so I’m planning on spending Saturday chilling out!
Are you a better listener or reader? By far a better reader. I actually like to have subtitles/closed captions on while I watch TV.
Ablaze is a beauty!
Though I know it’s class for you, your trip sounds like it’s really cool to an outsider, lol!
It was a great trip! The Napeague dunes are one of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever been to, although I am biased as a lover of both geology and dune/ocean environments. Photos don’t really do it justice, especially when trying to comprehend the scale of these things. It’s always nice to spend a day with friends in nature, too. We felt like kids rolling around in the sand and dirt.
Haul:
Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation in Bisque
MAC Tenderling
Butter London nail polishes Aston, Cake Hole
Zahra Lipstick Tower
Weekend plans:
Moving my living room furniture out for donation Saturday morning. New furniture will be coming later in the week, thank goodness – I need a break from everything being so busy lately. After that it’s grocery shopping, laundry, cooking and laying low for the rest of the weekend.
Are you a better listener or reader?: Definitely reader – I want to be able to come back and re-read if I need to. I do love Audible, though. I listen to it every morning getting ready for work, on the drive into work and anytime I’m in the car.
How fun to get new furniture! What’s your furniture style?
For this room it will be coordinated and formal – we hardly ever spend any time in there but I’m tired of it looking like a catchall. For the great room (where we spend almost all of our time), it’s big and comfy and slouchy with a huge sectional, lap trays, lots of pillows and dog beds and blankets. I think we’ll re-do it when our sectional gives out, ha.
Ahh, gotcha! 🙂 My front entry usually looks like a catchall, since it also functions as a mailroom, lol.
I had another MAC haul (yay 25% off!) come in also that slipped my mind when I was posting earlier:
Lowlights and Macroviolet Fluidlines
Nutcracker Sweet Mineralize Brush Kit – I use my fingers a lot for base application (I sanitize them first with silver spray) but thought I’d give tools a try so I picked this up. I’m going to try the brushes out on primers, paint pots and cream colour bases, maybe even foundation. I have a hard time using white-haired brushes but I’m okay with the duo-fibre.
Worthy and Malibu Bronze eyeshadows
Chanel Eclatants – I just ordered this last night. The Lumieres is beautiful and I still may pull the trigger, but I’ve heard nothing but praise for Eclatants and I don’t want to miss out if it’s another Empreinte Du Desert.
Haul: ColourPop Hello Kitty Bento Box and School Bus eyeshadows, Ribbon Ultra Matte liquid lipstick and Let’s Play Lippie Stix, Coin Purse blusher. Gorgeous and worth the wait/Customs fees. My little girl loves the red lipsticks, I’ll have to hide them from her, she loves bright colours.
Latest in Beauty 3 pick box: Vichy Purete 3 in 1 cleansing milk, L’Occitane Jasmine & Neroli shower gel, Ren Moroccan Rose Otto body lotion.
Free Burt’s Bees lipstick in Lily Lake. I won it in a giveaway on the Burt’s Bees website, there were different colours being given away and I got a lovely berry colour. It’s slightly sheer so very wearable.
Molton Brown 5 piece travel body/hair wash set. I bought this off another member from the beauty Fb group I’m in.
Plans for weekend: celebrating Mothering Sunday with a meal at a local carvery with my parents and my fiancé’s mum along with my fiancé and our young daughter. Also my 40th birthday on Mon, will have tea and cake at my parents’ flat then they’ll look after our daughter while my fiancé and I go out for a meal.
Are you better as a listener or a reader? Reader, definitely.
Ribbon!! Such a great shade. 😀 Happy to hear you’re enjoying your ColourPop order, Claire!
Happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday Claire! Some great picks from the CP x Hello Kitty collection!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Claire! Cheers to the year ahead!
Haul: Kevyn Aucoin Etherealist illuminating foundation. Gerard cosmetics liquid lipstick in Ecstasy, Sigma brush cleaning glove, Butter London eye glaze in Spark and It cosmetics brow pencil. The last two items were from the Ulta 21 days of beauty sale.
Weekend Plans: Hopefully, going to watch Beauty & the Beast on Saturday, then probably Cheesecake factory with a friend.
Are you a better listener or reader: I think, my friends will say I am a good listener. However, I feel like I am a better reader. I like to shut everything out of my mind and around me, reading helps me relax.
How is the Kevyn Aucoin foundation? Very curious!
I have not used any other foundations from Kevyn Aucoin before (so, I can’t compare them), I received a sample of this specific one from Neimen Marcus once. It is a beautiful foundation, especially for dry to dry combo skin types. Gives a nice soft, illuminating finish. I really like it, it also feels very light weight but at the same time hydrating for my dry skin. I used my usual Sisley Le tint first, then dotted the Kevyn Aucoin one on top of it and it looked nice this way too. Plus, I was able to get for 20% off from Dermstore 😉 Do you plan on trying it out too?
Thank you for the heads up! 🙂
I think I am going to pass right now, mostly because I have a ton of foundations on my vanity right now… literally on it, haha.
I know how you feel, I had to throw out a couple cause they got too old. Now I am being very careful in not getting more than what I need.
Haul: I can’t normally say that I even have a “haul” but I was a super busy gift card bug this week! I **finally** got my Burberry Silk + Bloom blusher and am slowly figuring out how to get color and not just sparkle– it’s pretty dense in that pan, and I’m used to having to be extra careful about going overboard on cheek products!! I also picked up the small size Tatcha one-step camellia cleansing oil (because everyone raves about it and my skin lately has been dryer than literally ever before!) a Nars matte complete concealer to try out (in lieu of my local ulta EVER having shape tape in stock), a marked down $11 dollar sephora “concealer” brush, tarte’s make believe eyeshadow palette (because I love a good shine and am really hoping it will be good– I haven’t played with it yet!), Tom Ford’s soleil balm in la piscine, (I actually love this, it’s pinker than I prefer, but it lasts longer than I expected and doesn’t give me that ring-around-the-lips thing!), one of MAC’s mini lavender Fix+’s, a re-order of Burberry Cat Lashes in Blonde (brilliant!), a slew of samples, annnd…. oh! one of Dior’s new Addict Lacquer Sticks!
I ordered the shade “LA Pink”, and I ordered it blindly. I am not 100% about the color yet, but my god is the formula pretty much perfect for me!! It wears well, little transfer, not matte but not too shiny and emollient, one-swipe pigmentation, not drying, kind of amazing!! (will you be reviewing these? I haven’t seen them mentioned on the site yet, but I know there’s tons to get thru lately, so it’s all good! ?)
tomoro I’m actually on the hunt to test becca’s first light since I haven’t yet, and chanel’s new glosses, though your recent estee hi-lustre reviews have distracted me!! ?
and I think that’s it… I feel like a spoiled brat or perhaps a rich bitch (even tho i’m broke as all get out!) even typing all that, but mostly I’ve been hoarding gift cards and VIB discount codes and sale-weeks! 🙂
this weekend I am in new jersey having a sort of trial run to see if my bf and I would want to actually transfer to this area… which we are still unsure about! closer to nyc, which is a MASSIVE plus for me, but his job (he’s a sort of semi-shorter-distance truck driver) is harder around here with all the overcrowded traffic and stuff… so just checking options out! 🙂
and as for learning, I’m a much much MUCH better reader, but that’s because I’m a writer at heart– (can you tell by my super not-concise ramblings? paring down my wordiness was never my strong suit, lol!) but I try really hard to listen. I just work better if I can actually see what I’m dealing with, even if metaphorically and not physically!
p.s.!! your dog is adorable and curled up like a little cinnamon roll and I love it!! he looks a little bit like my penny louise, tho penny lou needs to hit the pool and work on losing five pounds!! 🙂
Swimming is such great doggy exercise 😀 Mellan LOVES swimming!
Let us know if the Tatcha cleansing oil is worth the hype, Jonirae! 🙂
I think you will like the Make Believe In Yourself palette if you like shine!
Haul: Too Faced Love Flush blush in I Will Always Love You, Drunk Elephant Dayglow and Nightbright sample kits, Wet-n-Wild Photofocus foundation, and Physician’s Formula Butter Blush in Plum Rose.
Weekend plans: It’s my boyfriend’s birthday so we may go out to dinner, but he’s not into celebrating (why are so many guys like that?!) I’ll hopefully go to the gym and get some work done.
Better listener or reader: I’m definitely a better reader. I am a little ADD. When people talk, my mind wanders.
Happy birthday to your boyfriend!
It is interesting how some are SUPER into celebrating and others almost try to avoid celebrating at all!
No recent hauls (at least, not since last time I posted one), but I did take a bunch of loose powder samples and blend them together to create two Frankenstein products: I mixed about 30 loose eyeshadow samples to get a semi-metallic warm pewter eyeshadow with sparkles (was actually trying to avoid the sparkles), and I mixed a small size loose powder blush with about 18 loose powder and highlighter blush samples to get a slightly shimmery, pale, warm plummy-pink. I found another dozen eyeshadow samples with no sparkle, so I’m going to mix them together today to create a second Frankenstein eyeshadow. This is kind of fun!
I’ve been seriously considering hauling a few of the new Marc Jacobs eyeliners, but I have so far resisted.
My weekend plans are mostly to work from home, but we have dinner plans with friends later, and we might go to the museum tomorrow morning (at least, my SO is definitely going, and I might go with him).
Oh, and reader.
Though … I’m trying really hard to improve as a listener.
What kind of museum, Alecto?
30 samples, LOL, wow! Was it intentional to use that many or were you just trying to see what they’d come together as?
The Museum of Flight in Seattle.
And yes, I was deliberately trying to use up all my samples in one big gamble. I had a 3-ring binder with sheet protectors designed to hold trading cards, and I decided to clean it out (it’s the beginning of an intensive destashing/organizing phase). But instead of throwing away the samples, I decided to mix them all together (minus the ones with sparkles — except somehow I still ended up with sparkles), just to see what would come of it.
I just got my binder out to count the sleeves, and it was actually closer to 50 (not counting the sparkly ones I straight up threw away — and also not counting the other 18 I found the next day which I ended up adding to my original Frankenstein mix). The indie companies I buy from send samples in little baggies, and I buy (and get free) samples every time I order, so I had a bunch, and they were never going to get used stuffed in that binder.
It came out to just about exactly the shade of grey I was expecting, and it really is a beautiful color (but I have enough to last me 5 lifetimes of daily use).
Sorry, it was a dozen more eyeshadow samples the second day. I know no one cares, but I hate mis-speaking.
Oh, that is a cool museum! I actually went there with my dad and sister when we visited my mom in Seattle (she used to work at a company based in Seattle, even though she still lived in California with the rest of the family). 😀
LOL, I can imagine that it must be one giant pot of loose eyeshadow now!
Mellan looks soooo small when curled up like that. He’s a sweet dog.
Haul: Boston Store Goodwill Days 20% off : Bobbi Brown Liquid Art Sticks in Rich Red and Havana Coral (really like these, eyeing 2 more),BB Skin Remedies Skin Relief (for facial redness) and BB Brush Cleaning Spray. Following a consultation with Beautylish, ordered a few items from The Ordinary line; awaiting restock on a few others.
Weekend plans: It’s going to be a rainy weekend, so gathering tax information and hoping to de-clutter my dining room table.
Are you better a listener or reader? I’m more visual. I prefer to see and do, then later read. OR read, conceptualize, and do. I’ve been told that I’m a quick thinker, so to be a good listener, I have to be focused to hold my thoughts and let the person finish conveying what they wish to convey. (It takes discipline and I’m still practicing!). 🙂
It is funny – I feel the same way! He can look so small and then so large, lol!
Great haul, Tracey! Let me know how you like the Ordinary line.
Haul, I bought myself a birthday gift, the Kevyn Aucoin Ibiza palette. It’s so lovely I don’t even have words for it.
I also bought, from Sugarpill, Trinket liquid lip colour and Angel Baby lashes, they are purple!
From IT I bought CC+ eye colour correcting concealer and the dual airbrush concealer brush.
I really like my purchses.
Weekend, the usual, cleaning the appartmant, walking the dogs.
I think I’m a really good listener but I’m an even better reader.
Mellan is adorable in the photo!
I had just written and pressed post when I los the internet connection. How annoying is that!
I forgot some stuff when reporting the haul.
From Essie the Gel polish line, Twill Seeker, Take me to Thread and the top coat. I like these a lot and will probably buy a red and a purple soonish. I generally get two to three days from most nailpolishes, I got five with the one I trired first.
I bought two eyeliners, one from Maybelline, Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner and one from H&M, Aqua Liquid Eyeliner, both in black
Nice birthday gift you got yourself there! 😀
