What is the most expensive beauty product you own?

What is the most expensive beauty product you own? Was it worth it?

I think it is the T3 Evolution hair dryer – which retails around $300.  It was a product sample, but it changed my life – would have gladly paid for it!

The most expensive physical product would probably be my GHD which was $200ish. However, I get my hair chemically straightened 3-4 times a year and that costs $300 plus $65 for a haircut. It’s pricey, but SO worth it for me. Saves me hours a day and tons of money on all the product I used to use up for those curls.

I don’t really count hairdryers etc as beauty products (they’re necessities! haha), but I guess it would be my GHD. I got the 2009 Christmas pack, with the pretty straightener, hairdryer and case which was around $300. The most expensive piece of makeup will be my Chanel Ombres Perlees when I finish paying it off! (It’s currently on layby).

Overall, probably the hair straightener I have, the name of which escapes me. Cost about $200.

In terms of cosmetics, Guerlain Blush G and yes, it was worth every penny. I’m absolutely in love with it. Close second would be Cle de Peau Extra Rich lipstick in Baby Julia. I got that colour purely because our only female cat, who we call our “baby girl” is named Julia (although it gave me an excuse to try the product).

I bought the full size Mac 187 brush today. After over a year of using the SE one (and loving it), I finally splurged on the “real” one. *sob* it was so expensive…

(PS, I’m totally cheap. Like sincerely, completely, utterly, cheap)

ysl rouge volupte l/s & chanel l/s I have other items that did cost more (UD BOS, NARS sets & palettes, etc) but I don’t consider them splurges b/c over $30 for a lipstick takes the spot in my book!

makeup: dior airflash $60– total waste, not as good as the drugstore sally hansen used to be.

skincare: fresh umbrian clay lotion $65. unopened but the treatment mask was great so I’m hoping.

that’s really pushing my limit, the only time I’ve wanted something higher was the LM colour wardrobe 09 which was $98 (reduced to $78 after xmas) and I decided to pass. some regrets but gone now. I have several barely used palettes I’d probably trade for a gently used one if I ever saw someone who didn’t like it.

I love the look on the chantequaille but the fact that I couldn’t use it without ruining the look is a killer– if only they also imprinted the packaging.

past a certain price point guilt ruins the pleasure (presumably less for those who get lots of beauty products free and have a blog etc to justify the expenses)

Beauty tool : Clarisonic
Makeup : Cle de Peau Concealer
Both are totally worth every penny!

Oh, I also own UD 15-Year Anniversary 24/7 Pencil Set, but I won’t call it expensive, since it’s a set. In fact, it such a steal! $92 for 15 shade + UD Grind House, it’s like $5.9/pencil (retail for $18 each) & $3.29/sharpener (retail for $10). Great deal!

A popular choice – mine’s my GHD too. Although I buy a lot of HE makeup nothing is individually very expensive. A few £20 lipsticks, a few £30 foundations. Fragrance is the only other contender: I am considering splashing out on a full bottle of Montale or Serge Lutens at £100ish…

I got a $75 flat iron for $17 or so (on clearance then on sale, looks like they stopped making the 1/2″ one) at Sally Beauty, does that count? Other than that, probably my Urban Decay palettes.

ak Avatar

I really can’t think of any beauty product at the moment that has really cost me that badly lately except for the Jose Eber Series straightening iron that I got in the last Christmas sale. It’s supposed to only take 3 to 5 seconds to heat up fully. I got it for £96 or £98 (?) Can’t even remember but in the UK it’s supposed to retail for £180.00(?)

I don’t like to spend more than $40 on beauty products, just because lol. And I don’t count hairdryers as beauty products sooooo ir’d say I don’t own anything over $100. =)

Mariella Avatar

Hmmmm- tough one. It would be either my CHI flat iron (which was a gift from my kids for Mother’s Day a few years ago) or my T3 hairdryer (which was a gift from my best friend for my last birthday – who would have thought that a hairdryer could be so terrific?) In terms of skin care/cosmetics, it’s either my Clarins Younger Longer balm (also a gift so I don’t know the price) or their Super Restorative serum (costs as much as street drugs, I think!)

Nadia Avatar

Probably my skincare!! My eye cream costs $197. So I guess that’s the single most expensive beauty product I own. I did buy a GHD but ended up returning it…for $316, I really didn’t find it was giving me my money’s worth in results.

ChristineD Avatar

My most expensive beauty tool would be my hair straightener; my most expensive product would be my Guerlain meteorites of which I own the beige and rose shades…but wellllllll worth the money in my eyes.

GHD Flat Iron
Sedu Flat Iron and Blowdryer set – best flat iron and blow dryer I’ve ever owned… I wish I never bought mu GHD’s they are good don’t get me wrong but my Sedu’s are wayyyyy better

As somebody who doesn’t care much about hairstyling but LOVES makeup, I think this would be a more interesting survey if we didn’t include anything with an electrical plug. I’m curious about the makeup! 😉

For me, it’s my Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill mascara and my Lancome Teint Idole Ultra foundation, but I think those are both excellent values considering the quality.

If we include perfume, my By Kilian bottle of Back to Black and my Serge Lutens (Muscs Koublai Khan, Ambre Sultan and 5 O’Clock Eau Gingembre), all of which are worth every penny.

Rosanna Avatar

Thierry Mugler’s bronzer/scuplting powder: Face Sculpt “Brown & White” which is $65 CAD.
Luckily I didn’t actually pay for this. It was a Gift With Purchase because they are actually discontinuing this item and hence were getting rid of all their “testers” (= mine doesn’t have a lid).

Dorna Avatar

custom MAC pro 15 pan palette… cost around 150 to fill up… And then it fell off my makeup counter and half the colors smashed into a billion pieces 2 months later. *sigh* nice while it lasted.

mkdallas Avatar

cosmetic = Cle de Peau Extra Rich Lipstick (a painful $60)
product = Latisse ($110 for a teensy bottle)
tool = Clarisonic Opal Infusion System ($200…jury’s still out on efficacy)

Amanda Avatar

Probably my Guerlain Meteorites (USD$65), which is pretty expensive considering I’m still in college but am a self-confessed makeup junkie; I can’t help myself!

Hachi Avatar

My Chanel Coco Rouge Lipstick, but I won it in a giveaway so it was free…I’m planning on splurging on some Anna Sui makeup soon, $30 for a lipstick and almost $40 for an eyeshadow duo will be the most expensive beauty products I’ve bought.

lily Avatar

I have a face scrub from skinceuticals that retails for close to $200. A friend of mine gave me to me. it’s like a medical grade exfoliator. lol.

Seher Avatar

Brought the Tom Ford Pure Pink lipstick few weeks back, for 50+ here in Toronto, not sure it was worth it, I love my allure lipsticks & YSL rouge pur more …so that’s why I’d consider this most expensive. not sure it was bang for buck

demosthenesval7 Avatar

hmm i think it probably is my armani OMC3 cream at $185 …. though if i break down and get the clarisonic opal to use with my eye serum it would be that at 250

Carrie Ann Avatar

I don’t usually buy super expensive makeup/beauty products, so it would probably be a Dior or NARS blush, though I usually wait for the Sephora sales to buy those. I also have a Lancome eye shadow quad and MAC eye shadow palettes. (I don’t know if that counts, since you have to buy the shadows separately.)

Marie Avatar

I think the most expensive beauty product I own would have to be my Clairsonic Mia I love it so much it’s like my little Lavender Baby, but in a close second would have to be my set of Luxy Hair Extensions that I spent around $140 on and I hardly use them but its because I never have the time to.

Xtina Avatar

I bought the hot pink T3 from Sephora. I think it was around $100. It broke after 6 months, and I was so sad because when it did work it was amazing! I would purchase another one in a heart beat if I thought it’d last for awhile, but after reading the reviews on sephora.com it seems like everyone had a similar experience as I did. I wonder if the dryer they sent you was especially designed not to break?

FlutistEmeritus Avatar

I bought a cheaper version of the Clarisonic — I think it works well. So I’d have to say my skincare products combined. My whole collection is worth, well… too much.

Jenna Avatar

I couldn’t care less about my hair so I don’t use any sort of hair tools or products. I do have some expensive skin products from Chanel (somewhere between CA$60-$90 I believe) and my Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille perfume cost me a good CA$240 but I think skincare and perfumes are inherently more expensive than beauty products so it’s a little unfair to compare them to actual cosmetics.

My most expensive cosmetic item ever was a Dior quint that I got in China over a decade ago and the mark-up was RIDICULOUS; it cost about US$80 at the time! But my dad bought it for me anyways. I ended up losing it a few years later…I was devastated.

The most expensive thing I’ve bought for it’s suggested retail price is probably my Chanel Pro Lumiere foundation at US$54 and my Chanel Poudre Universelle loose powder at $52 (both bought at duty-free shops).

MochaKnitster Avatar

My Chi flat iron is on it’s death bed, but I’ve had 6 long years with it and it paid for itself by the 2nd time I used it. I think it was like $149 back then. My collection of MAC limited edition MSFs are my only cosmetic indulgence. I want some Jurlique eye cream; it’s $45!

Mandy Avatar

Baby Qasar $399,Nu face $360,Clarisonic Pro $225, for equipment
Make up – lots of Chanel, Dior, YSL and many of those are over $50
Perfume: I just got By Killian Love & Tears for $225

Niki Avatar

My Smashbox 19 Face & Body Brush which retails for $52; however, I bought mine from eBay for under $27 (S&H was FREE) and this brush applies my mineral foundation to a flawless finish and I would pay full price for this brush if I could not find it at a discount price.

Marianne Avatar

I think they were my Estée Lauder Blockbuster Boxes which where somewhere around 100 euro’s a piece. I bought one myself in 2009 and got the other one as a gift from my boyfriend this year…

Most recent: Chanel Ombres Perlés. I’m not quite sure yet if it was worth the price because I haven’t quite found the best way to use them.
