I’ve tried a few different kinds (MAC, Palladio, Tarte) and I just don’t like them. Most of them are very drying to me and emphasize lip lines. I don’t find them very flattering.
my boyfriend hates any kind of product on my lips. he even considers lip balm “sticky”! so i like the idea of a lip stain that does just that, stains your lips with no product left behind. what i do is i use a very pigmented lipstick (like MAC Rebel or Violetta, usually amplified finishes) and apply it on my lips and leave it on for a few minutes, rubbing my lips together to really get it to sink into my skin. then i wipe off. TA-DA! it does the trick and lasts for a few hours.
My boyfriend is like that too. Sometimes he kisses me anyway and then wipe his lips with disgust… not really flattering. He can’t bear lipbalm too and he finds nars glosses sticky! But he like lipstains so I changed my lipgloss for a stain. I tried a few and the only one I like are the stila ones.
I can relate! My girlfriend(butch lez, ha!) hates it too! Stains work wonders I love Stila’s stains.
and Revlon!
I love Revoln’s passion lipstain!
lol my boyfriend does the same. It’s kind of funny 😛 I never wear lipgloss around him though because then he’d NEVER kiss me lmao. I put the lipstick on, leave it for a 5 minutes or so, then get a napkin or tp and dab my lips. It usually does the trick & it doesn’t bother him.
I LOVE that they are usuall long wear… I hate that they are very dry makes me feel like im thirsty.
I like to wear lip stains to the beach since you dont really have to reapply lol.
I dislike lip stains. I’ve been trying to find the right one for ages, but almost every one has totally dried out my lips horribly, and made them peel and burn. I may keep searching, but for now I’ll just stain my lips with lipstick & blot it off with a tissue!
My only complaint is that sometimes they are drying.
Revlon Just Bitten lip stains are great!
I agree!
I too love Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm. It is great for busy moms like myself. Sometimes I substitute the balm with a gloss.
I have Passion and it’s just ok. Wears off too quickly for my liking.
I don’t mind lip stains, it is an easy way to get some color on your lips, and it doesn’t usually transfer.
I have tried the Tokidoki ones which dries WAY TOO quickly, and I just purchased a couple from NYColors which are awesome for the price!
I tend to put chapstick, or a clear lipgloss after applying the color. With this slick coating there is NO way that the color will last hours, but it is not expected to no matter the claims in the package!
Love the stayin power of lipstains. I like ud’s lipstain. Their packaging is so much
better than those marker ones. You get so much more product and usage.
One con is they are drying. You have to keep your lips super moisturized. In the cold climents forget it. Save the lipstains for the humidity filled summer, your lips will love you for it.
I love the Idea of a lip stain, but the actual from those that I have tried have been awful. Color doesn’t last and most formulas dry out my lips. I think they would be great for a quick pop of color in the summer time but other than that they’re a big NO for me…
Well I have pretty pigmented lips, so lip stains aren’t something I reach for.
I really do hate Stila’s convertible stains because that brush really is the most useless applicator ever. Most of the drugstore ones fade really bizarrely and make me look like I’ve been smooching a clown.
I want to try some of the higher end ones because I’m sure they will have better ingredients/application
Beauté Liqui-Gel Stains and Becca Beach Tints are both excellent. Neither are drying and they fade evenly.
My favorite is the one by The Body Shop. It comes with a doe-foot applicator and you could build up the color to the intensity you want it to be. Not drying at all 🙂 The only con to this is
The one I’m using now is by a company called ModelCo (not sure how accessible it is where you are as it’s an Australian brand and I’m in Asia). It’s called Rosy Red. It’s bright if you put too much all at once but it lasts a long time and fades to a nice normal pink shade. You can layer it anyway so you won’t have to deal with the brightness that comes with putting on too much. They come in tube form with a brush tip. 🙂
I love love love Armani’s lip stains. I put a dab of lip balm on top, and I have no-maintenance color that lasts for hours!
I love lip stains! They are perfect for when you go out for the evening as you don’t leave your perfectly applied lipstick on your glass every time you drink. If I wear a lipstick out I end up spending so much time checking and re-applying it!
My favourite stain is Barry M Touch of Magic lip paint (the green lipstick), it’s not marketed as a stain, but it does and it lasts ages, often till the next morning! The only downside is your not quite sure what colour you are getting! 🙂
I have tried a few and the one I like the best is Mark Cosmetics Gloss Gorgeous Stay On Lip Stain. It goes on like a gloss but then once the shine wears off you are left with a pretty, non-drying stain. I really love the feeling they have on the lips and the nice scent.
I tried one for the first time about two months ago and hated it. They are so drying. I have found one I like by Mayebelline. Their SuperStay 24 comes with a lip balm and it last ALL day. You just have to reapply the balm. The color lasted 13 hours for me.
I love watery lipstains like benetint, but dislike more gel-like textures like stila and UD’s. They just don’t seem to blend well and end up patchy.
I hate “Lip Stain” products, because they either don’t evenly stain, or they don’t simply stain.
Now I just wear tinted lip balm products like Clinique Chubby Stick, Almost lipstick, or Dior tinted lipbalm…Or I take a lipstick and rub it on with my fingers, or put it on in light layers with a lip brush, blot, and repeat. Sometimes I’ll top the last coat on normally from the tube. Of course if I’m wearing red or a bright pink lipstick it will stain my lips anyways.
That is my solution to lip stain.
my favourite is lipglosses and nude lipsticks
I think lip stains are OK if your lips are not dry or cracked. I like them in the summer. Urban Decay’s is nice. The Tokidoki one would get 5 stars if it didn’t dry out so quickly.
I love tarte lipstains they arent drying at all. I also like the sephora lip stains they apply color evenly and find them moisturizing. I perfer the stain were I apply the with a doe applicator
I’ve been on a lip stain kick lately. I bought a few liquid/gel stains about a year ago–Beaute Cosmetics Flouron, UD Greed and MAC’s see-through lipcolor from Rose Romance–and didn’t like them, but kept them anyways. Suddenly around this New Years I tried them all again and this time I loved them. Maybe my lips are in better shape because they don’t flake or fade or peel like I remember. Recently I bought a couple Palladio lip stain pens from Sally’s and those are my FAVORITE. I’d like to try other pen-formulas now. I also like the Laura Mercier solid lip stain, I have it in Mulberry. That one is less forgiving then the others as it doesn’t sink into the lips the same way, it’s not really a true “stain,” but I love the color (I’m NW20). So, i dunno, maybe if the lip stains aren’t working for you, maybe they will work for you in the future!
I haven’t tried any yet but I want too
I love lipstains. I use them everyday since I’m a teen and pretty much not allowed to wear any makeup that’s too bold. I have the Covergirl Outlast & Body Shop stains. They’re really wonderful, but I have to remember to apply after lunch because it fades after 4 hours on me. They’re definitely worth it though, but I don’t feel lip dryness since I use lip balm constantly at home! 🙂
Just bought one today (Max Factor) – one of my male friends (potential boyfriend) kept complaining about me wearing lipstick. Now I’ve got nicely coloured AND kiss-proof lips! 😀
i have only tried stila’s lip rouge as far as stains go. i feel like it sinks into the lines when it fades after a few hours, look disgusting 🙁 i use it as a lipstick base sometimes.
I love lip stains! They’re great if you’re lazy about your lip products, like me.
I have a couple of the marker lip stains from Cover Girl and Maybelline that I like, but my lips have to be absolutely perfect to wear them! And they are a bit drying over the day. But when I have perfectly smooth lips, they are pretty and low-maintenance! Just don’t color your lips in with the marker point! Dot on and blend.
I like Revlon’s Just Bitten and Covergirl Outlast. I view them as something to wear under a lipstick or a lipgloss so there is color if that product wears off. I never wear them on their own, I like to have some sort of moisture on my lips.
Not a fan. I work slowly when applying lip products, and the lip stain always either gets outside my lip or dries unevenly~ not a good look. Plus, they’re SO drying on my lips! I find it easier to just wear lipstick and reapply once in a while.
I HATE them with a passion
1. they tend to go on and come off unevenly depending on the moisture level and of your lips
2. There’s no quick and easy way to get them off when they start to look uneven
3. they are very drying and emphasizes every line and flake on your lips. so it’s going to look and feel like a disaster if you have dry cracked lips to begin with
4. most of them taste funny and make my lips numb
5. it can only add color, so forget it if you want a nude-ish color or have pigmented lips
6. doesn’t matter what color i try, they all turn bright fuchsia/red after a few hours of wear
7. if you have lines around your lips, it will bleed before it dries, and there’s no way to remove it. if you use a lip liner to prevent bleeding, it won’t tint the edge of your lips because of the wax and oil in the liner
so i guess if someone has well moistured
I *love* lip stains!! I love that I can put it on at the beginning of the day, slap on some gloss and maintain color – even through my various cups of coffee and chugging on bottles of water. They are my FAVORITE!
I use lip stains most of the time. I like the Tarte one (even though it is more of a hybrid) as well as the new Tokidoki balm stains. Both are really great! I also like Josie Maran and lip gloss that stains after the gloss part fades. I don’t have drying issues with mine. I put balm on bottom after exfoliating, and then the stain. Then balm throughout the day. I kind of love the bitten look with a bare face.
I really like “Benefit” lipstain and other products by Benefit
I love Benetint too. Origins pinch your cheeks gel is a super lip/cheek stain that really works for me. The new maxfactor felt tips are good too. A lot of lipstains are so drying for me but not these three.
bourjois has great lipstains — one coat of their dark pink lasts all day through eating and drinking, everything! their lighter colours fade a little faster, but they apply really evenly, unlike most other stains, and if you want ott colour, it’s really easy to build up (swipe it over lips twice and it’s twice as dark). i usually wear the stain and layer a lipstick over the top for a bit of a sheen or shine, and the colour lasts all day, basically. i wore it to a wedding and through two meals — lunch and dinner and didn’t have to touch up anything at all. plus, they’re pretty cheap, too, and go on much more evenly than say, revlon’s just bitten range. i reccomend them for everyone who wants an affordable and good lipstain. (they’re not really subtle though, some of the colours, so if you want something subtle, it’s probably not for you)
Love the idea, but I have yet to find one that works. My lips are far from perfect- they crack and dry very easily, even with a good balm. All of them just go on patchy and dry me out like no tomorrow. I tried Revlon’s Just Bitten- they were terrible!
Most favorite: Benefit Posietint, Benefit Benetint & Stila CC Orchid
Favorite: Laura Mercier, Vincent Longo
Least Favorite: The Body Shop & Stila Crushes
I love lip stains! So far I’ve only tried Tokidoki’s Fantastico stains (now discontinued in favour of the new balm stains), but I mean to try the Josie Maran one and possibly the Tarte one. Tokidoki’s new balm stains don’t look pigmented enough for me.
I love the staying power of stains — I hate reapplying make-up during the day. If I want a bit of shine I put on a gloss, otherwise I leave as is for a more matte look. Or layer a lipstick on top. Tons of possibilities!
I also like HATE it when I go to a nice restaurant and I wipe off my lipstick onto their nice cloth napkins. A lip stain would be ideal in that situation :P.
I tried one some different ones MAC and Reclon I didn’t like. They are so drying. I have found one I like by Maybelline. Their SuperStay 24 comes with a lip balm and it last ALL day. You just have to reapply the balm because after some time it dries out your mouth 🙁
I have both serious love and loathing for lipstains. I adore the stains from Tarte, & DuWop (Pure Venom Berry) because they apply/feel like a lip balm but dry down to a stain without sucking all the moisture from my lips. Unfortunately I’ve had bad luck with most marker style stains from the drugstore so I’m wary of the high-end marker-style ones as well.
I really want to try the ones from Stila, Hourglass, UD and Laura Mercier…
I can’t do lipstains. They’re usually drying on me, and I hate that faintly tacky feel. I’d rather it feel sticky, like a gloss, or not at all! That way I can tell when I need to reapply just by rubbing my lips together.
Hate ’em. Nothing else to say.
I have a lipstain from The Balm that I like. It’s a gel with a doe-foot applicator in your typical “berry” colour. I’m actually surprised that no one mentioned the limited range of colours stains tend to come in. It’s actually my biggest complaint since the dryness can be mitigated with gloss. Anyone else have the same problem?
A few years back I had a couple of YSL ones, they looked like big fat felt tips, loved them with a bit of gloss or balm over the top, but they don’t make em any more…as for bleeding issues, use a reverse lip liner like Duwop around the outside of the lips rather than putting a non adhesive layer on the lip.
I really want to love lipstains, but I am weary of spending a lot of money on them if I will just end up hating them. I tried the Sephora one and not even after 1 hour the color had disappeared and stayed in the cracks of my lips. It made me look like my lips were bleeding!
