Have you ever tried hair extensions?
Have you ever tried hair extensions? Would you?
I almost did, when my hair was shorter, because I desperately missed my long hair… but then it finally grew out, lol!
Thanks to Heather for today’s question! Got a question idea? Submit yours here.
I’ve never had “regular” hair extensions, but I did have synthetic dreads for a while, they were incredibly long and heavy, but they looked beautiful 🙂
I love dreads. I would wonder what they cost and how they are to “maintain”- I think they are so beautiful !!
Nope. My hair grows super fast.
hair extensions remind me of two people: britney spears and danielle staub. lol
I would LOVE to try hair extensions if only they weren’t so expensive!!! I have some clip in ones but they don’t match my hair color exactly. And while my hair is chemically straightened, its still not stick straight, and the extensions I bought are. So when I put them in the color doesn’t match AND you can clearly see the divide between my hair and the clip-in hair.
Is there a way to make professionally sewn-in hair extensions affordable?
No, I’ve never tried them, and I wouldn’t. I’ve heard they damage your own hair, besides, good-quality ones cost too much. I’m not a fan of really long hair in the first place.
I have a couple sets. I like to be able to take them out when I want so I just have clip ins.
wow crazy coincidence! i have been researching this all day! haha i’ve been thinking about it for awhile but dont know if i should do it or not. do you know alot about them?? i think im just gonna try clip ins so i dont have to make the longterm commitment but from what i’ve been reading the sewn in ones are said to be the best
have you find any good ones? I’m looking for one piece
i have hair extensions now. 🙂 it actually is hard to maintain and it can get bothersome at times but if a person is up to it then by all means she should go for it. 😉
I had waist long hair. 4 years ago I decided it was time for a change and I cut it super short…. My bother’s hair was longer than mine! 1 inch long!! lol
Since then my hair has reached it’s original length (almost mid waist) but I still think I have short hair… Go figure! So I’m going this week to buy my hair extensions! I hope it looks natural!
I’ve had heat glue in extensions. I don’t recommend them they;re too much work.
Yes, both cliped in, glue in as wefts and individual strand, only the glued in wefts hurt my hair.
I currently have a set of prebonded extensions in, but once I get them out I’m going back to clip in’s, as the only real advantage of having pre bonded is having long hair when I go to bed!
Yes!
I’ve tried the clip ins for many years.
Finally took the plunge and got the expensive, individually bonded ones that last up to 6 months.
Best investment I’ve ever made!!!!!!
I’ve had them in for over 5 months and they still look good.
I can put my hair in a braid overnight and wake up in the morning with perfect beachy hair – lots of volume and body.
I have wavy hair, which when was short, I would always have to straighten because it would look funny and poofy.
Hair extensions have made my life so much easier- wash, blowdry and go.
I chose to get them because my hair is very fine and never grows past my shoulder before it breaks off even if I do nothing to it (my mom has the same problem)
Although it is pricey, it is so worth it!!!
What is the name of the brand/system of hair extensions you got?
YES!!! and i loved it! the thing is that i moved to a diff state where i didnt know if i was going to be able to find a salon to help me keep them up and i took them out 🙁 makes me sad.
I have not because I always imagines it would be too hard to match my hair color. I have red hair that leans on the brown side, but not so brown that I could get away with brown extensions. I figure by the time I figured out a good color match (and probably paid a hefty amount for it) it was just as easy to grow out my real hair… and I did! It’s about mid-upper back length now and I don’t think I want it much longer (it already gets in my dinner plate if I don’t pull it back, lol)
Tried ’em? I’ve been wearing a weave for 12 years! My husband and I have been together for 11 years and he saw my natural hair for the first time last summer! I just like the ease of styling and caring for it.
Where do you buy the hair from?
Yeah, because my hair was just so short and I wanted my long hair back. But I couldn’t stand them, they just feel really heavy and didn’t look natural on me 🙂
I actually am Dying to try extensions. Think I will start with Clip Ins to start. My hair has thinned out w several medical complications and meds and at 27 I am not liking this at all lol. So I am thinking about it I cant wait to get them !
Well, it was my hair even if I bought it and it grew my “real” hair like crazy. LOL.
My hair is almost long enough to sit on. Do they even /make/ extensions that long? I have plenty of hair, and it’s awesome, so I really don’t need more. XD
I have really long hair already, but I adore clip-on color streaks. They’re so fun! I’d consider a row of a bright color under my hair just to be funky.
A couple years back for my wedding I had the glue in ones done for a year, so I had to re-do them 6 months after the first application. If you don’t mind a bit more maintenance and don’t mind shelving that beloved air brush for a thicker bristled brush then you’ll love hair extensions! Just a couple notes to take into consideration.
1. You do need to use a thick bristled brush.
2. 4 months in there is now quite a bit of space between your scalp and the point of attachment so this time takes a little bit more TLC.
3. They suggest blow drying every time after you shower and if you don’t the bond can mildew. I had a problem with blow drying my hair every time so I took the chance. I blow dried 65% of the time and didn’t get mildewy hair…
4. While washing your hair you must be a bit more delicate. This can cause a build up on your scalp and cause itching, so wash thoroughly carefully.
I LOVED my hair extensions for the year I had them and was HAPPY to have them out after a year of maintenance. I missed having them about a month after removing them.
Hair extensions are a love hate relationship.
I did , I got real hair and it cost me a huge bundle It looked beautiful but wasn’t worth the pain and hassle of them plus I figured this is so sad I gotta pay for long hair because my hair wasnt really growing fast enough for me and I was using Salon products, so I decided to use Lush Shampoo NEW bar and wow my hair been growing like weed ever since. 🙂
Yes I have. I wore them for my wedding and spend a lot on them. Totally worth it! They held the curls better then my own hair!
I use the clip-in Remy ext from Sally’s They are awesome. They blend great, i have never had to trim them to blend with my own hair. I use them mostly for added volume. I can curl them or straighten them and it looks great both ways. I think mine were just under $100 for a set.
I wore clip in extensions all throughout grade 8 & 9 , they ‘re incredibly annoying .
No, because other than not having the money I also have no patience and even if I got them done I know I wouldn’t take proper care of them! My hair’s been long for quite some time and every time after a shower I keep wanting to cut it off, it just takes so much time to dry…
Yes! I have some sewn in now! Hair extensions are fun. They are also a good way to try out different hair colors and styles without cutting or dyeing your own hair. I love extensions. It’s a good low manipulation style.
all the time. I was curious to see the responses on this topic because I know that most readers here are Caucasian. I’m AA and I’ve worn extensions on and off for years, even though I have long hair now I still wear them…and they aren’t really expensive.
Now that mainstream celebs have come out with their line of extensions or just publicly admitted to wearing them the average middle American women wants to wear them and the brands that are marketed toward them are ridiculously expensive. A local salon here was charging $400 for SYNTHETIC hair extensions…RIP OFF.
All I can say is do your research. You can MAKE your own clip in’s with great human hair that you can color cut or curl to match your own hair for about $20-$80 depending on the type of hair you buy.
Yes, I had them once when my hair stylist chopped off my hair. I hated them. They were heavy and I had a headache everyday from them. It was so hard to try to wash my hair. I will never get extensions again!
I have had them on and off several times. Most recently this summer and I have always had the sewn in type. They are very expensive. I use them Indy Remi style and the hair itself was $200 and then it was $100.00 every 5 weeks to have them tightened. The damage it does to my my natural hair is AMAZING and every time I have them removed I swear I will never do them again. They look nice when they are in but I am constantly making sure the braids are not showing and the headache isnt worth it. JMHO
tightening shouldn’t have cost more than $50.00 they took you to the cleaners.
Because i live in hong kong. i am really close to china. and china is crazy about extensions. they have 3 different kinds
a stamp extension (where the extension is clamped onto your hair with this metal thing-worst option ahaha)
a burn on/glued one which is the most common i think?
and a tie on one where they braid tiny parts of your hair and tie it onto your hair
i had the tie on ones and i loved them they were natural when my hair was down but when it was up you could see it. but when i took them out. my hair actually grew as long as the extensions so noone could tell i even took them out! x
never!!! can’t imagine being unable to wash my hair 100% right, besides my hair fall of too easily, I would be bald LOL
No, but i would love to, but the thing is my hair has so many different colours in im having trouble finding the right hair extensions for my colour hair.
I have a bit of blonde and strawberry blonde, and brown and a bit of ginger.
And I don’t know what colour to dye my hair because I don’t know what colour would suit me and i dont know what hair extensions to have. :/
Right before you get the extensions you get your hair weaved with all the colors you want unless your multi-color is natural. They will be able to put in as many colors you want and are pretty good at matching you colors and blending them in. That should be no problem for any Hair dresser experienced in hair extensions. I also recommend Hair Dream extensions. They are the glue in ones and I LOVED them.
