Hi sweet Mellan!
HAUL: This will be it for a while. Going on a no-buy because I am truly sated and happy with how I have built all parts of my stash — from makeup to brushes to skin care– over this past year. Done for now.
Biologique Recherche: Switched to this skin care line. Do yourself a favor and read about their P50 acid toners. Life. Changing. I am not kidding about this stuff. What this alone has done for my skin is completely shocking me. Anyway, Caoline Hirons writes a lot about it and others. Full BR haul includes:
Lait U Cleanser
P50 1970
Masque VIP O2
Masque Vivant
Serum Fluide VIP O2
Serum A-Glyca
Creme MSR H
Eve Lom Muslin Cloths
Konjac Sponge
Hair Dryer: Finally, a new one I like. Got the Harry Josh dryer for 20% off at the Dermstore. Not crazy about the placement of the cold shot button, but other than that it is a keeper.
Chanel Empriente du Desert: First time in my life I bought a backup of a product! Certainly never a shadow! Found the quad online in “such a deal” together with a Chanel Joues Contraste blush, I grabbed it.
Tom Ford Lips & Boys: In the color Tony. Nice. I like it. My beloved red I bought in Paris at a pharmacy is just a dried up old mess now. Wanted a red, and Tony works well on me.
Weekend: TONS of snow here after the blizzard yesterday so snowshoeing with the pups is on tap. Maybe putting together some Ikea stuff that’s been sitting around since before Xmas. Other than that, it’s going to be frigid here so it will be a somewhat tucked-in kind of weekend.
Travel: YES! Anywhere, anytime. I love to travel, especially to major, historic cities.
How long will your no-buy last, Linda? Great final haul (for awhile) 🙂
Stay warm!
How lovely to be happy with your skincare and makeup! I am going to try hard not to look at Biologique Recherche as I recently added Darphin to my skincare lineup (although I am curious as I believe we are roughly the same age).
Enjoy your weekend!
Haha- my husband and I have the hardest time finding shows to watch together, too! One of our faves is 30 Rock if you’re looking for suggestions ?
Haul: Nothing to report!
Weekend plans: I might try to pick up some fresh additions to my work wardrobe, it’s getting a little stake. I used to buy almost all of my pieces from The Limited, though- guess I’ll have to find a new place to shop.
Do you like traveling?: I love it. I love exploring and the change of scenery, trying new food, etc. I don’t even mind traveling for work, although lately I’ve only been doing day-trips which is kind of a drag because I only see airports and conference rooms.
Thanks for the suggestion! My husband loves that show, and I have, by extension, seen quite a few episodes 😉
The retailer landscape changes are crazy!
Julia, I had to buy all new clothes after losing a lot of weight. Before that, I shopped mainly at Target, Kohls, and levi.com, because I just wanted to look acceptable for the least amount of money. Now that I’m having more fun getting dressed, I like shopping at Uniqlo (for good basics at a good price — but most things need to drip-dry instead of going in the dryer, if that’s a problem for you), Nordstrom (love that store! best customer service ever, great selection, and great sales) and Nordstrom Rack, J.Crew (they really have changed from years ago!), Madewell, and Gap (and I still get some things at Target and levi.com, too). LLBean and LandsEnd still, too, mainly for outerwear. For work clothes, Nordstrom, J.Crew and Uniqlo probably have the best selection, I think.
Fingers crossed for good lab results next time!

Weekend plans: My bff is going with my to visit my Mother tomorrow since she just had surgery. We’ll probably do a girls day after the visit.
Do you like traveling?: Yes and don’t do nearly enough!
Here’s hoping! 🙂
Gotta love Ulta for reward points!!
Hope your mom is okay!
Thanks Christine!
I hope your Mom is doing well post-op!
Thanks Fran. The surgical nurse told me they’e never seen anyone that age (almost 87) recover from anesthesia that fast. She’s doing ok.
WOW, that IS amazing. The anesthesia is often, as you know, a very big deal in the recovery process for someone that age. That is really good to hear.
I am so glad to read that your Mom has done this well post-op, Michele! When elderly or very I’ll ones can shake off the anesthesia quickly like this, it’s a very positive, encouraging sign. May she continue to recover quickly and fully. ?
*ill, not I’ll! Aaaarrrgh, I hate autocorrect!
Hahahaha! At least your auto-correct wasn’t as bad as some of the ones I get 😉
Thanks Linda and Nancy for the good wishes for my Mom.
Glad to hear your mom got through surgery OK.
Try the Netflix Series of Unfortunate Events. I loved Gilmore Girls in its heyday, but haven’t gotten around to watching the Netflix revival yet. I can’t get into most shows these days, but A Series of Unfortunate Events was brilliant.
Hauled: Sephora Favorites Discovery Collection Perfume Sampler, Sephora Collection Micellar Water-Green tea, ColourPop Casual Encounter set, Ulta Juice Infused Lip Oil (Green tea + avocado), an Ulta gel matte pencil in smoke, IT Vitality Lip Flush 4-In-1 Reviver Lipstick Stain (Pretty Woman), CC+ Radiance Ombre Blush (Sugar Plum), and a couple of Ulta brush cleaning tools. Weekend goals: use all of these new things, dinner with a friend I haven’t seen in a while, and, this is a new one for me: my coworker has asked me to come over and show her how I do my makeup. Makeup is a relatively new hobby for me, slowly growing over the past 2 years, but I still consider myself a novice. She’s seen my progress in this time and she’s been really impressed. So we’ll see how it goes! So much of what I’ve learned, I have learned from you, Christine. Thank you!
I used to love, love, love traveling. Lately, not as much. Going to Quebec City in April, looking forward to that, but my husband likes going away for weekends much more than I do.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the suggestion! I didn’t catch Gilmore Girls when it was airing (I knew it was around, but I can’t recall ever watching a full episode). I think it might have been better to watch now than when I was younger, since watching it now, I identified more with Lorelei vs. Rory.
We’ll definitely check Series of Unfortunate Events out!
A Series of Unfortunate Events is fantastic.
My daughter is watching A Series of Unfortunate Events and she raves about it.
We’ve been watching Lemony Snicket/ Series of Unfortunate Events, too! It’s a fun show, and we are blown away by he production quality- it’s like watching a Wes Anderson film.
That’s so cool that your coworker wants to see how you do your makeup 🙂
Haul: Almay Smart Shade blush in Coral
Weekend plans: driving up to DE! Such a treat when I get to. Hopefully see some family & friends!
Do you like traveling? I do and don’t. I’m such a homebody, but I do like long drives and seeing new places. I’m a very casual traveler though. I don’t care for adventure.
We love you Mellanpop!
Safe drive, Joyce! 🙂
Haul: Prevage Night cream, Wigo boar bristle brush, Maybelline Lash Sensation in blackest black (I have to keep extras on hand to give to my daughter and granddaughter), and UD Vice Nocturnal lipstick in Nonsense. I picked up the entire line of the Real Technique brushes to give to my daughter and granddaughter so they would have an inexpensive set of brushes to play with, but I don’t think I can do it. I like the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush but the rest of the brushes look disappointing. In my own life I haven’t used these brushes, so maybe they perform better than they look? I don’t know. I will probably send them back and get them brushes I already know and love.
Weekend plans: I have a medical procedure today and have been fasting so I am most looking forward to eating! I am planning to make a quinoa salad tomorrow and probably chicken chowder. I’m going to try to talk my husband into watching a new show tonight: Grantchester (Amazon).
Traveling: I used to enjoy it but I have such a hard time sleeping away from home that insomnia tends to ruin it for me.
I just picked up Lash Sensational to try again, since it’s been a bit!
Hope your medical procedure goes well, Tammy!
I wonder if I could get my son to try watching Grantchester. He rolls his eyes every time I suggest Poldark (I love the books), and he doesn’t even know anything about it. I love historical novels. He will put up with some period dramas for my sake, but Grantchester sounds like fun.
I hope you get good results from your medical procedure.
Hope you test went well and gives you good results!
Tammy, I pray for a speedy recovery.
Haul: I had a large haul for me this week. On Saturday last week, I got a burts bee’s lip oil pen and Maybelline 24 Karat Nudes after hearing some glowing reviews. I also got a large haul from Sephora. At Sephora, I got a whole bunch of perfume and a Smashbox mini lippie, a full-size perfume for Vday (Vanille Insensee), a Bite lipstick mini set, and NARS Thessalonique duo. I also got some samples and a 250 point Fresh duo. I think I got something I’m forgetting but I don’t recall. I took a lot of things in and out of the cart but I think that’s the edited version I finally agreed on.
Weekend: I’m still on pup watch but he’s been cleared of the cone. I’ll probably just to the usual things.
Travel: I fooking love it. I’m as equally a homebody as I am an adventurer. I value both. I get a lot of home as I’ve been working from home for a while now. Being in the EU was great. I didn’t get much of a chance to travel due to our budget but I’ve been to Mexico and Canada as well as a few EU countries but it’s not enough for me. I’d go back to the EU a million times and I’m keen to go to Asia, Africa, ME, and Aus/NZ. Other than the arctic circles and a few countries that end in ‘stan’ I’m down to see. I’d probably even be up for those if money grew on trees. I’d also really like to see most of SA but specifically Patagonia!
Hope you and Elroy are doing better, Erin, and you both get more good news soon! 🙂
How do you like Thessalonique? I like it more than I thought I would, but I like to use it over a dark purple base.
Haul: Not a thing…still on a low buy for my trips
Weekend plans: I have a museum date tomorrow….and I don’t know if I want to go or just cancel
Do you like traveling?: I live to travel. I love to try different cruises, see new places, and make new friends.
I knew you’d say something along the lines of “I live to travel” 😉
You know me too well haha
Mellan, at least we know what’s wrong –hoping you will get better soon!
*KVD Pastel Goth -I didn’t realize it was going to sell out so fast! Last week, it completely disappeared from Sephora’s website, and the 2 Sephora stores near me were OOS within days of getting it, but fortunately I called and found it at the 3rd store, and raced down there in pouring rain to grab it. KVD’s website is also OOS but there’s still an option to sign up for emails in case she re-stocks. All of the shadows swatched very nicely, so impressed since these are matte pastels, the hardest colors on earth to get right. So far, I’ve tested the blue and purple shades on my lids -both took a bit more patience to blend, but they were pigmented/buildable, with no fallout and lasted all day with primer. I only wish she had included pastel shimmers in there, but KVD does it again! She has some of the very best matte shadows out there ( both in brights and pastels), and some of the very best shimmers too, in the Metal Crush formula. After Metal Matte and Pastel Goth, I worship at her feet!
*20% Ulta + cash back -haven’t tested anything on my lids yet, but everything looked beautiful –UD shadows in 1985 (mine is drier and stiffer but looks workable, color is beautiful) and Relish (not as bright red as yours, but it’s still a beautiful red, with a slight brownish undertone), ABH shadows in Macaroon and Truffle Glitter (wow-stunning!! hoping no fall out), ELF Beautifully Bare Matte Cream Shadow in Nude Linen (hoping to use as a base for matte shadows), UD Vice Liquid Lipstick in Purgatory, a bunch of small and mini Z palettes, and Revlon Cream Shadows in Pistachio (pastel mint green), Cherry Blossom (pastel pink), and Black Currant (pastel silver lilac). These are on sheer side, but I think they will pair or layer nicely with matte pastels from Pastel Goth and the Lorac I Love Brunch palette, which I’m eyeing. I seem to be on a pastel shadow kick lately 🙂
*Weekend -dinner with friends, sort/test makeup, usual chores, cook
*Travelling – more of a home body, but I like travelling too if it’s to a fun place
I am surprised that Pastel Goth sold so quickly! I’m happy you were able to find it locally. I believe KVD announced they were going to do a restock through their site, but I could be misremembering!
I especially love the way that the KVD shadow palettes work together so well. And Pastel Goth has super-pretty shades, not super-pale or sickly sweet. They’re great. I missed the Holographic palette the first time around and it did come back, so maybe Pastel Goth will, too.
Yes, the Pastel Goth shades are very pretty! And so impressed there’s no chalky white underbase showing, the pigment is well blended. She did briefly re-stock Metal Matte in January, so I’m hoping she will do the same for Pastel Goth
I’m glad you finally got the test results back. Would I be correct in thinking that 900 ppm is bad, but not absolutely horrible? There’s medication to help him eliminate it in about six months of treatment? I’m hoping that he feels OK in spite of all this!
I took Marya back to the vet two weeks ahead of schedule, because she was managing to eat some solid foods, but her right upper incisor was growing overly long already. Now both upper incisors are the same length (very short!), and, if her teeth did not get knocked out of alignment by the misadventure with her cage bars, she may be able to resume eating unpulverized hamster food, and grind her teeth down normally herself. We just have to wait and see! The good news is that they fit us in the day I called, it took the vet about one minute to do, they only charged us $23 for a teeth-trimming, and Marya did not mind the ride in the car this time (this vet is about 25 minutes away when traffic is light, can be twice that much in heavy traffic, unlike our local vet who is a five-minute drive away). I am actually relieved to know of a second vet that we could be happy with that’s not too far away. I love our vet, but they don’t specialize in our little furbabies, if anything complicated comes up, and their co-op model seems to be working well for them so far, but so many vet practices in this area got swallowed up by the big vet hospital chains, I’m always just a little worried. We could always go to the vet hospital at Penn if we had to, but that presents its own set of challenges.
Haul: I’m going nuts for the Rocker Chick lipsticks. First I ordered Indigo-go, Evening Buzz, Flatter Me Fierce, and Jean Genie from MAC; then I picked up Mean Green Machine and Night Mint (to wear with Deep With Envy) and In My Fashion and Lightly Charred (as probably working better for me than City Slick). And I still want Secret Number and Gritty Girl.
Paula’s Choice 15% off: Calm Redness Relief Repairing Serum and a re-order of Clear Acne Body Spray with 2% Salicylic Acid which I actually use to keep sebhorrheic dermatitis and tinea versicolor at bay on my back (not an official medical treatment for those conditions, but it works for me). I also discovered that I can use my PC 1% retinol products together with my Peter Thomas Roth 3% retinoid — they’re two different forms of retinol-type chemicals, and the retinoid was actually tested in a solution with the retinol, so I’m using them together now.
And Olaplex No. 3: one application has made my (virgin) hair softer, shinier, less tangle-prone and it dried a lot faster after washing. Pretty cool.
Weekend plans: Nothing special! I would like to find a new show to watch, too, but I really relate to how it’s hard to find something we *both* want to watch! Maybe we’ll resume The Man in the High Castle, which I really think is the strangest of Philip K. Dick’s books. The show seemed a little different from what I remembered of reading it, but good.
Traveling: I used to really enjoy it. Now that I have a boatload of health problems, it just seems too hard. I get so tired from getting there that I need time to recover before I can enjoy where we are, then it’s time to go back already! And the discomfort and expense of travel only seems to have gotten worse over the years. But theoretically, I still love it. I love to experience new places and people; I love having my little view of the world challenged.
We have an appointment on Monday with the internal vet, so I’ll be asking the same thing myself, but when I tried to read through various scientific papers on canine copper storage disease, it sounded like 1500-2000 is considered toxic (as in, that level definitely causes real damage to the liver) and some biopsied livers showed up to 10,000 ppm. The medication changes how the copper is normally processed so that they urinate it out instead, and one paper I read said it takes about one year to reduce by 900 ppm. The vet had already advised that typical treatment is about six months of daily doses, and then after that they taper down (some dogs, every other day, others every few days). It sounded like it was on the lower end, but it does seem to suggest that the autoimmune chronic active hepatitis is the more likely culprit of the liver problems. He is mostly his normal self; I think he gets tired a little more easily (he can’t take one medication he used to take, which was for anti-inflammatory and pain for his joints; he is on two different pain medications but they don’t have the anti-inflammatory properties of the original one) and seems a bit stiffer overall.
Mellan’s local, primary vet actually mentioned the same thing about lots of offices getting swallowed up by larger corporations (he spoke so poorly of it, I’m guessing his office will fight it tooth and nail). I hope Marya has continued improvement and that soon she’ll be eating her own food!
I’m relieved that it’s not in the range that’s considered truly toxic, but it’s really too bad that this will restrict his anti-inflammatory meds, poor baby. At least it is hopefully reversible.
For a few years, I wrote up summary/analyses of (human) medical journal articles for nursing publications (a few that I wrote are even listed in PubMed). If you have questions about something you read in an article, I would be happy to try to figure out what it means for you.
I sincerely hope your vet can stay independent! What I’ve seen happen around here is that, once taken over by the big corporations, the vet starts only recommending the most aggressive (also the most expensive) treatment option. If you disagree about what’s best for your pet, or simply cannot afford what they recommend, they might recommend a company that will finance it for you, but they don’t give you a range of treatment options, like they should. The little guinea pigs and hamsters really can’t understand what’s going on or consent to invasive diagnostic tests or treatments; I want to take good care of them, but don’t always think that putting them through scary stuff is the kindest thing to do. And I have had two guinea pigs undergo surgery for breast cancer and live happily for several years afterward, but, weighing the risks and benefits, I could see that the surgery was the right thing to do. No one pushed me into it, and the vet offered to do the surgery at cost when we were in a financial pinch. The same place was completely different after they got bought out. And a friend of mine (who is a nurse) had older dog who was basically on his way to dying, and her vet wanted to do all this stuff during his last few months. That’s not always best even for people! And she was completely unable to afford all the stuff he wanted to do. And he didn’t give her any alternatives. I finally convinced her to switch to my vet for help in making her dog comfortable during his final months, and she had a much better experience there. I don’t know what kinds of financial pressure these big corporations are able to exert on the independent vets, but it must be pretty intense, because I don’t think most of the vets like the trend.
I might take you up on it, should things get more complicated! In theory, once the accumulated copper is worked through the system, it’s just about managing any additional copper that goes into the system over time – but that should be less now and going forward vs. before, due to change in diet. His previous dog food had 22 mg/kg (or ppm) copper in it, and his current food is 7.5 mg/kg. I’ll be supplementing with some raw food (prepackaged, complete/balanced), which is 4 mg/kg. It is definitely treatable and manageable, so long as the dog can handle the medication (which Mellan seems to be OK with).
I’ve always found vets to be better (on average) than human doctors re: giving options for treatment, understanding quality vs. quantity of life, and erring on the side of reliable medicine that’s a good starting point that is often a bit cheaper than the “best” test that may be much more expensive.
You’re running Mellan’s diet and medication regiment with precision and perfection like you run your blog. Sounds like you guys got the best medical care for Mellan.
Please feel free to take me up on it any time, Christine. But it sounds like you’ve got a good understanding of what’s going on at this point 🙂
I’m jealous of your MAC lipstick haul!
HAUL: Grabbed some MAC stuff. Taraji lipstick which was a no-brainer for me, charity + Taraji = duh. Feline kohl pencil. Eyeshadow pans in Deep Truth, Knight Divine, and Satin Taupe (finally). And 3 empty quad palettes. Every so often I try to reorganize my singles so that they don’t overwhelm me and I find a way to actually use them all. So I’m going to try making my own quads and rotating them to see if that’s a better strategy.
WEEKEND: Hopefully seeing Moonlight to round out my movie tour. Done with Gilmore Girls, I’m impressed! Are you guys Team Logan, lol?
TRAVEL: I do like traveling and especially researching places and forming an itinerary before-hand. The trade off is that during the trip I often feel responsible for its success and the enjoyment of everyone else.
The Taraji collab was gorgeous. They need to do a bigger one!
Of all the guys, Logan seems the best, though I feel like they made Rory more like a bad person vs. a flawed person. I get that they put her on a pedestal early on in the show, so they needed to give her flaws/show her as a real person. I’ll say I have no idea how anyone can be Team Jess during the time he was on the show. The only couple I was really invested in was Luke/Lorelai 🙂
Totally agree, Lorelai and Luke were much more compelling (love Luke). I don’t think Rory’s character really appeals/relates to someone 15+ years older than the target audience of teens/YAs. Jess was such a punk, couldn’t stand him! I was always a Dean fan but they really made a mess of that whole thing.
The revival episodes were pretty good. A bit cheesy here and there but they hit the spot.
Not much you could dislike about Dean (perhaps, too “vanilla,” which is really complaining about someone being too nice, lol), but I agree, they made a mess of it! The best thing about the revival was it really didn’t feel like time had passed – and they managed to get so many actors and actresses back.
I love Knight Divine. Swatched the Taraji Glam lipstick at the MAC counter at Macys and decided it wasn’t the best shade for me. But I really should try it on my lips. Next time I get over there!
It’s actually not a “me” color either, hence why I didn’t have dupes. But I try to buy from the Viva Glam collection whenever I think I can get even some use out of the color, since it’s purely for charity. I’m more of a red person so I’ll be trying it over some red or vampy liners.
You are so right, this is a very good charitable effort!
Haul: The Melt order I placed last week should be here today, my Kylie order finally shipped last night, and I ordered one of the ColourPop V-Day duos and the highlighter this week. I’m debating on whether or not I want to order some of the ColourPop mini lip kits (V-Day, Hello Kitty).
Plans: Forever and always studying, but I’m having a Valentine’s Day party with some of my friends so that should be fun.
Do I like travelling: There are a lot of places I’d like to visit, and I love going to see my boyfriend in Chicago, but I hate the actual act of travelling. It’s really anxiety-inducing for me, and I prefer being home.
Hope you get your Kylie Valentine’s day goodies in time for Valentine’s Day!
Haul: Lime Crime Dreamgirl Bundle (mostly for the metallic red), with Teacup, Alien, Squash, & Black Velvet on sale.
Weekend plans: Work, resume. I got ahead this month on posts so I’ll have more time to work on sculpting.
Do you like travelling?: I do I just don’t get the chance to do it that often. Funds being the main issue.
How is Mellan feeling these days? The body it a weird thing in that it gets used to having too much of something until it can’t handle it anymore and I’m wondering if he is feeling like himself even at that high level right now.
The drug used to treat the copper storage disease can cause taste aversions (something to do with interfering with B6), so he was rejecting food for a bit (he ate 5 lbs of it no problem, then I bought the larger, 10 lb box, and he spat it out like it was totally vile!). I started supplementing with B6, and he is eating it better, but there’s something about that food that isn’t quite working for him, even though he was fine before. I’m mixing it with another food and supplementing with some raw complete diet to make it more appealing and will eventually transition off of it entirely–it’s a really great food, pricey too!, so I’d like him to finish it if he is deigning to eat it, lol. He was still VERY excited for dinner time, raced to his bowl, and would be very disappointed, so I know it’s taste/food vs. him not wanting to eat. Two of his new pain meds (to replace one he was on for years that he can’t be on now) can cause sedation, and he seems to have adjusted to those now and is fairly perky/normal.
Aww poor guy. I know that medication can through off taste sometimes as well but sometimes just not eating something for a while can cause you to not like it as much as you use to like it.
I had the same experience when I let myself try something I hadn’t eaten for a month after changing my diet after being diabetic and I just didn’t like it anymore, (mostly sugar treats). lol
I empathize with your food and medicine specificity! I feel like Angela in the episode of The Office when she tells Dwight about her cat to mix certain food with other food and put it in a certain place while applying fungal cream?
We just took Gogi to a dermatologist who prescribed like 5 different pills and ear drops. One of the pills is an antibiotic because he caught an infection from an (expensive!) medicated shampoo prescribed by a vet. Sigh. The things we do for our baby dogs!
I hope Mellanpop has a lovely Valentine!
Poor Gogi! 5 pills and ear drops, that’s a lot! Hope he’s doing better.
Oh! That’s such a shame about him liking his food, then not liking it! Poor baby!
Poor doggy going off his food when he loves it so much! It must be confusing for him.
Nice job getting ahead! 🙂
Crossing fingers, toes, hands, feet, eyes, everything for Mellan! <3
Haul: Apparently my Paula's Choice order arrived (at my parents' house)
Weekend plans: Wine tasting + dinner with friends tomorrow, yippee 🙂
Do you like traveling?: Yeeeeees! I want to see as much of the world as I can, gather as many experiences and memories as I can.
Have fun with friends!
Ah Mellan! Hi back from the Netherlands! 6 months is doable!
Haul: only an eye cream because I am gonna run out of my old one soon (I think). I am interested in trying this new one because it has argan oil in it seems to be quite nourishing while it feels very gel-like and shouldn’t interfere with any eye makeup I will put on later.
Weekend plans: I will do a breathing course (it’s called happiness program now). It will be nice! Got to run now, haha!☺️
Travelling: yes!
Which eye cream was it?
Oh, sorry for my late reply, I wasn’t behind the computer the past few days. I didn’t mention the brand because it is the home brand from our local Sephora (but smaller and without the sales, hahaha), Douglas, a German based company (they also carry Zoeva 🙂 ). I have tried the cream/gel the past days and it is really nice!
Haul: Colourpop Furry, Succulent, Only You, Sure Thing, and Cuddle Buddy! I also bought the $4 small size of Origins Mega-Mushroom face mask from Sephora to get my birthday gift! I’m really going on a no-buy: no makeup, no new clothes, no nothing for a while because I had to spend a ton on textbooks this semester and groceries are so expensive that I’ve already spent way more than I wanted to and it’s only been three weeks into the semester! Hopefully, I should be getting some more financial aid in a few weeks which should help.
Weekend plans: Homework, unfortunately. All classes were cancelled yesterday and this morning because of snow, and yet I couldn’t force myself to use a snow day to get ahead!
Do you like traveling?: I actually have done very little traveling in my life. In high school, I went with my french class to north-western France and Paris for a week and then a year later to Montreal and Quebec. Otherwise, when I was little and my family went on vacation, we pretty much just went to the same place every year. We even usually rented the same hotel room! I’d like to travel more but I do find it very tiring. I do have a long list of places I want to go to someday, but I’m someone who likes to leisurely explore a city or area instead of trying to cram-pack every day with scheduled activities.
Good luck on your no-buy, Kat! Stay strong 😀
Haul: Nothing this week. I am still on a low buy and haven’t seen anything that has tempt me to try this week.
Weekend Plans: Today we have a cold but sunny day here in Montana which is suppose to be the only one for another 8-10 days so will undoubtedly storm all weekend. They say it might rain on the valley floor with snow in the mountains. I am a lot worried about that do to the amount of snow we have and the fact that I live on the shores of a large river. I also have my roof leak to contend with so I will be home to man the water buckets!
Travel: I love it. Name a place and a time and I am there!
Mellan: I sure hope his next blood test comes back with better results. He looks really good in the picture and is such a handsome young man. I will keep him in my prayers.
It’s nice not to be tempted for once, I bet! 🙂
Hope you enjoyed your sunny day, Deborah! Fingers crossed that you can get your roof leak under control soon.
Hi Mellan! You look bright-eyed and bushy tailed today. ❤?❤
Haul: Sugarpill Feline Fancy set (because Cats!), Marc Jacobs Blacquer Highliner, KVD Pastel Goth palette (what was I thinking?!?), and still waiting on my MAC Taraji Viva Glam lipstick and Lipglass because of a weird snafu on my end.
Weekend plans: I know I need to go food shopping later today and also buy a new litter box mat. My phloofball, Clarissa, will only poop in the box, but insists on doing her whizzing on the mat! I’m ready to rip my hair out, seriously. She only began to do this after Pookie died, so I’m not sure if this is mourning or what? Then my usual weekend stuff: hair, nails, etc.
Do you like traveling: Hmm…depends on where to and what for, I suppose? But I hate sleeping anywhere but my OWN bed! Sleeping elsewhere can really jump start my insomnia and sleep anxiety. But I do love visiting people and places back home in the NYC/NJ area! Or a vacay at a beach would be very welcome right about now.
Hope you’re able to get Clarissa back on track! That sounds frustrating 🙁
I hope so, myself. Tried putting a pheromone collar on both in hopes of reducing any stress for her and less dominant behavior by Scunci, it helped, but not in her going on the mat. She is a very skittish cat. Pookie was like a mother to her and kept Clarissa somewhat sane. The politics of a multi-cat home….
Are you saying you don’t like the KVD Pastel Goth palette?
Oh no, Tammy, the shades look really gorgeous! But I’m just not sure how such light shades will translate on my NC37 skintone. Haven’t even had a chance to use it yet, as my allergies have made my one eye pretty inflamed. I just hope these shades won’t look ridiculous on me, or too stark.
I want it too, but now it’s sold out and I’m not sure how far I’m willing to go to get my hands on it. I wear foundations in NC30 and NC37, they work interchangeably for me. If you discover you love it, let me know.
Let’s hope that every blood test shows the copper level dropping until our beautiful boy is back to normal. Such a sweetheart!
Fingers and paws crossed 🙂 I’d love to see some improvement!
Haul: Picked up quite a few items from Sugarpill when Feline Fancy released. I got the Feline Fancy set, a Trinket Liquid Lipstick, Kim Chi Liquid Lipstick and finally decided to start the pro palette. Got the empty palette and Bulletproof, Flamepoint, Kim Chi, Poison Plum, Buttercupcake, and Dollipop. I’ll have to pick up the other 6 sometime when they have more colors in stock.
Also decided to try some of the KANI Botanicals line. I picked up a Charcoal Konjac Sponge, Rose Blush Facial Oil, and a bottle of Rose Tone which is supposed to work great as a setting spray.
No big plans for this weekend. I’m sure my husband and I will do something tomorrow, maybe get some lunch. I’m going shopping with a friend on Sunday, so that will be fun!
As far as travel, I like to, but I’m always ready to come home after a couple days, lol!
Sorry to hear about your baby! Hopefully he will be showing some good improvement when you visit the vet again!
The Feline Fancy set looks pretty! Hope you enjoy it 🙂
My first time commenting on one of these!
Haul: This week I ordered a Makeup Geek highlighter in Glitz, along with the eyeshadows Bake Sale, Rockstar, and Faux Fur added on at the last minute. Won’t get these until I’m back in the U.S. in a couple months. There are two UD Revolution lipsticks waiting there for me as well (they are currently on sale for $10 on their site). I’m seriously considering ordering a matte palette, as i just realized I have hooded eyes (I think it’s happened with age…I’m 34, so I guess that’s when you start seeing these things!). Trying to decide between UD Ultimate Basics, Kat von D Shade and Light, theBalm Meet Matt(e) Naked or the Matrimony, or paying a lot of money for a Viseart matte palette. I’m leaning towards UD because I love the shades (maybe even the two Basics for ease of travel). Any thoughts from anyone who own any would be greatly appreciated!
Weekend plans: Currebtly at the airport, waiting to fly to Dublin with my husband! His band plays a show there tomorrow night, then we will be back home Sunday.
Do you like to travel: See above. 🙂 I am from Maryland but living in the Netherlands now, and traveling all over Europe is fun! And ah en I’m back in the U.S., Florida is one of my favorite places to go. All that said, being at home with my husband and cats, curled up on the sofa with a good TV show, is just as great.
Welcome to FFHF, Alicia! ; )
If you’d use all the shades in the UD palette, that sounds like a good option! I am a fan of Viseart’s formula quite a bit – very consistent and easy to blend!
Welcome, Alicia! I am excited to hear the responses to your Matte palette question. Traveling to Ireland sounds fun. What is the name of your husband’s band?
Thanks everyone! So, airport makeup proves in Dublin were the cheapest I’ve seen for Urban Decay at retail, so I was happy to pick up Naked Ultimate Basics for 40 and a back up Naked Skin foundation for 25! Yay! I also found out my husband got me Naked 2 for Valentines Day!!! He had to tell me so I wouldn’t buy it. He looked up each palette himself and picked the one he thought would suit me best (coincidentally it’s the one I wanted!). So a haul indeed! And Dublin was cold and rainy, but a nice weekend!
Prices, I meant! Sorry!
Welcome! And thanks for sharing your haul! Wow… your husband seems a great guy! Whereabouts do you live in the Netherlands? (If you do not mind sharing it here.) I am from there!
Hi! Thanks! I am living in a small town near Nijmegen, in Gelderland. Where are you located? What are your favorite makeup stores here? I miss Sephora! When I visit the U.S., I always go there!
Hello, thanks for your reply! Nijmegen is beautiful! I live in Amsterdam myself. I can imagine you miss Sephora, it seems like makeup-heaven, hihihi.
In Amsterdam there is a really good Mac store (in the Leidsestraat), otherwhise there is Douglas (a chain with shops all around the country, and they carry Zoeva online). The chain Ici Paris has some things from Urban Decay. I also like the expensive department store De Bijenkorf (for more luxury brands). They have Charlotte Tilbury and Tom Ford (the latter is too expensive for me, but you can check some things of his makeup line out in the Bijenkorf in Amsterdam). Recently a Nyx store opened in Amsterdam as well, which I am trying to resist, since I am on a no buy (I guess I will cave once I set a foot in there!).
Ah yeah, and in France they DO have Sephora. I guess they don’t have everything the American one has, but probably you will find some more European brands here.
Hi there! Yes, when my husband and I recently visited Amsterdam, I bought something in Douglas (we have them here, but not nearly as good as the one you have there!) and I discovered De Bijenkorf on the way back to the train station and wandered around in excitement for almost two hours! I LOVED the Charlotte Tilbury display in there. I left without buying anything, but my arm was swatched and I was a happy gal! 🙂
Haul: I’m planning a colourpop order with birthday money I’ll be getting tomorrow!
Weekend plans: my birthday is tomorrow (the 11th) and I’m going into Toronto and getting a make over done from sephora, and I’m going to ask for some foundation tips and tricks while I’m there! And then I’m going out to eat with my parents, brother, and my best friend.
On Sunday I have a booking, so ill be busy with that!
Do I like traveling: heck yeah! I love it! I’ll be going to Montreal this September for a week, and it travel to Toronto every month or so for work!
Happy birthday, Shanon 😀
Happy birthday, Shannon! How are you feeling? Has your infection resolved?
Thank you Tammy!!!
My infection is GONE. But i’m sick as a dog with a really bad cold, and i’v lost my voice!
I was scared to let you all know, and let you all down. But I noticed yesterday, that where my tumor “was” is all swollen and painful again. And I woke up this morning, and there’s a very visible LUMP on my jaw. So I called my surgeon, and he said he’s pretty sure my tumor has come back.
It’s not even been a month since my surgery. And it’s back and ready to fight.
So looks like i’ll be going in for a THIRD surgery in 5 months.
Sorry to be such a downer aaaa
Keep us posted, Shannon! You’re not letting us down at all. We are hoping for the best for you 🙂
OMG, I can’t believe it might be back and so quickly!!! I’m sure they have to do tests to confirm, but fingers crossed it’s not the tumor again. Keep us posted Shannon on how you are doing
You aren’t letting us down–your body is letting you down. So sorry to hear your tumor is back and that you are sick. What a birthday, right? ?
Ah Shannon… A late happy birthday from me (happy Valentine’s Day is more appropriate). I hope that at least you feel better and that you have seen your surgeon in the meanwhile! Keep us posted.
Happy Birthday Shannon!!
Happy Birthday!
Haul: from Beautylish – RCMC powder, Jefree Star Pumpkin Pie lipstick, Wayne Goss 04 crease brush, 05 detail and 00 Powder brush. Large leopard Z palette . Nordstrom- Tom Ford cheek brush because you recommended it and I want another blush brush besides my Nars Yachiyo brush .
Weekend Plans: Dinner with a friend visiting from out of town. Shop for bedroom dressers. Organize my closet.
Do you like traveling? : Traveling is one of my passions! I love seeing different environments. So interesting to see how other cultures live and play. I’m pretty well traveled . Next I want to see some of Asia, Greece and Alaska .
Sure hope Mellan feels better soon!
Great Beautylish haul! Hope the Tom Ford Cheek Brush lives up to expectations 🙂
Haul: I think the only thing I got was a wonderful Ibuki Sleeping Mask from Shiseido but it came with a GWP bag of cleanser, moisturizer, serum – a bunch of stuff I’ve not looked at yet. Nearly bought the Hourglass lipstick crayon thing in Visionary but I was in too much of a rush to wait in the lineup at Sephora as I was going to my mother in law’s for dinner
Weekend plans: we pick up our older son just after midnight (weather permitting). He is being deployed to Poland at the end of the month so this is the last time we’ll see him in a while, so we’re planning a lot of family things and getting all the kids and my son in law to come in for a dinner or brunch. Because son #1 will be away for 6 to 9 months, my husband and are planning to make a trip to Eastern Europe and possibly to Denmark as well, which takes me to the next question…
Do you like travelling: yes and no. With all the travel restrictions, it’s a pain. And with all the security checks too – I’m a middle aged Canadian born woman who’s had one parking ticket in her whole life but I always seem to be setting off alarms and end up being taken aside and patted down by a female border security official as though I were some drug mule! But with kids living far from home (younger son will likely be in New York City, Brooklyn, San Francisco or Seattle), it has become a fact of life. And some of our trips, like the India wedding trip at this time last year, have simply been the most amazing experiences that I wouldn’t have missed for anything. I really am quite a home bird but I do like travelling and seeing new places. It’s one of the reasons I would like to learn Spanish and brush up my Italian, which I studied in uni….just to be able to communicate a little bit with people in their native language in the places I want to visit.
I hope you’re able to work out the trip to Eastern Europe, Mariella! It must be hard to be so far from your children sometimes!
I hope Mellan responds to the treatment. He is a beautiful dog!
Me too! 🙂 Thank you!
Haul: Snagged a few Wet & Wild Catsuit liquid lipsticks (they are ok, a bit drying but worth it for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot on lipstick. I snagged mine 3 for $10 at walgreens. They are $4.29 reg. Picked up a few faux beauty blenders. Because I have a germ problem I can’t keep a BB for too long even after washing it before I get grossed out so I go to Marshalls and get a few for $3.
•Weekend plans: I finished watched the show Leverage which went off the air in 2012…awesome show. 5 seasons and just all around fun. Now I’m gonna go back to binge watching The Flash current eps with my son and my other shows I watch (Bones, Grimm, Lethal Weapon, and Sleepy Hollow).
I want to go see a movie so I might do that.
Last week a friend I grew up with daughter was killed by gun violence (Sadeya Hall), her funeral was today, I couldn’t emotionally handle going so another friend and I are going to visit her and her family after work. It’s for too sad, April, Sadeya’s mom, lost her 8 yr old son Kasahn in 2013 by a freak accident and now her daughter. Both of her children are gone. My heart weeps for her, literally no words.
Then home to drink – my aunt, whom I am close to found out she has Lung cancer. We don’t know how severe yet but it’s the early stages. I lost my mom (this aunts sister) 5 yrs ago and a yr after my last grand parent (Gma) then a yr after that, my grandma’s sister, and last year my aunt; my dad’s sister to sickle cell. With breast, colon, and lung cancer on both sides of the family I am afraid of my chances and my siblings chances of getting these diseases so I’m going to drink and relax and watch movies.
•Do you like traveling?: I do but mostly alone. I hate other people and their BS when traveling. It’s annoying. Last March I booked a 5 day trip to NYC for the first time solo. Stayed in an AirBnB, traveled around like a local, met up with friends I met on twitter in 2007 and took in the sights. It was amazing.
So sorry for your loss of Sadeya 🙁 Poor, April, to have lost both of her children so soon.
I’m glad that your aunt has caught the lung cancer in its early stages and hope she has a good prognosis! Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you and your family!
I’m sending so SO much love and support!! I just had my own tumor removed, and learned just how scary illnesses can be. Ugh.
I’ll be praying to the creator for your friend, your aunt, and you!
There is absolutely nothing worse than to lose one’s child, but to lose both is utterly unimaginable. Just heartbreaking. You’re right; BEYOND words. My heart is with Sadeya. And you too, Mo. Having lost so many family members so close together is extremely rough. Happened in mine too during late 80’s – early half of 90’s.
Oh Mo, I’m so sad to hear about all the deaths, it’s too too much (((((hug))))
I’m so sorry about your friend’s losses. How heartbreaking.
Sorry to hear about this sadness Mo. I am sure you can support April. I think of you and your family.
Haul: not so much, I am still suffering from all the mac collections in November/December which did cost a lot of money.
But finally I have tom ford tobacco vanilla !!!!!!!! The body spray for 60 Euro (150ml!!!)
So much product and it really smells the same and lasts very long. So everyone who does not want to spend 200 Euros for a small bottle of the perfume buy the body spray.
The new shock Mascara from ysl? Or was it lancome? In a Deep burgundy shade.
A big bottle of redken curvaceous curl conditioner and the curl cream
Have to work on Saturday, will sleep loooooong on Sunday
No traveling, I also prefer staying at home. And I have no one to take my cats. But I do not want to leave them alone anyway.
Tobacco Vanille! Yum, yum! It’s a lovely scent.
He’s looking better, much happier than in recent photos. Great news that he will slowly, but surely get better.
Haul: nothing much – re stock of Physicians Formula Argon Oil and some new hand creams.
Weekend Plans: My son Nicholas and I are taking Olivia and Lachlan to a Chinese New Year festival that is being held in a nearby suburb. There will be children’s activities, a parade, a market, food etc.
Tomorrow we are going to an Italian Festa out in the countryside, about an hour’s drive away. Same kind of thing, but with Italian food and celebrating Italian culture. Very busy.
Travelling: Yes I do – love it. Especially when I don’t have to cook, clean up, wash dishes etc. I am not even very fussy about where I go either.
Sounds like you have a fun, busy weekend ahead of you, Genevieve! Enjoy your time with your family 🙂

I have colourpop Paradox, and it’s amazing! So pigmented and lovely! I hope you enjoy it!

Do you like traveling: I do! I love have upcoming trips to look forward to and plan for. I take some of my students NYC each year, as well as travel to beaches the next state over a few times each summer, with random trips to other east coast cities randomly throughout the year with my girlfriends. Almost all of my travel thus far has been in the US, but this summer I’m heading to England.
The U.S. is a huge country, so there are lots of places to visit 😀
Mellan looks great! Fingers crossed!
Haul: Tom Ford Bronzers Gold Dust, Terra and a back up of Victoria Beckham Modern Mercury highlighter

Haul: SEPHORA: Sephora Collection Contour Matte Gel Eyeliner in Sly Like a Fox and Beautiful Monster, Long Lashing Contoured Eyelash Comb, Express Cleansing & Purifying Wipes, mini Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Sandwash Pink, and mini Buxom Lip Polish in Dolly. OTHER — E.l.f. Mineral Infused Face Primer and two bottles of Mist & Set. Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Queen B (I bought it from a friend who swatched it once for her vlog and didn’t want to keep it). Another friend gave me her Tarte Swamp Queen Palette. (She used it once and didn’t like it. I like it fine, though the purplish shades could be better.)
Weekend plans: Nothing special
Do you like traveling? I love traveling. I wish I got to do it more.
He’ll need to take medication for sure to get rid of everything that’s accumulated. I’m not sure if he’ll be on it for life or how often – I know they eventually taper down to every other day or less, depending on the dog!
Sly Like a Fox is such a fun eyeliner color!
Thank goodness there is a medication to help. That’s great that it can be tapered down in frequency.
Hi Christine! How about watching This Is Us. It is excellent and it wouldn’t take too long to catch to be current. Great new show this year! Endearing.
Thanks for the suggestion! That is on my list to check out, but I have to figure out how to watch it!
Haul: 2 Wet n Wild Catsuit liquid lipsticks (Pink Really Hard and Berry something), and Avène products to help calm my skin after my IPL treatment that I had this morning. I got the thermal water spray and thermal water gel, they arrived just in time yesterday!
Weekend plans: I have a fitness class tomorrow, half spinning half pilates, and a bonfire on the beach on Sunday night.
Do you like traveling: I do, and I’ve done quite a bit of it. I really like to discover new places. But now that I’m at a point in my life where home is actually a place I want to be, I also like staycation 🙂
Hope Mellan will do well with his treatment! Could the copper accumulation explain his hepatitis? Or does the vet still think he’s got an auto-immune disorder?
Hi Mellan!! He’s such a pretty dog! Haul: Monday was my birthday, so I went to MAC & got a makeover and got a few thing there : Marine-Bright Formula Softening Lotion Spray, Prep & Prime Fix +, MAC Rebel, and a lipliner which I can’t find now. At Sephora I got a Perfume Favorites Sampler, and I’ll use the scent certificate to get a rollerball of Tory Burch Jolie Fleur Bleue. At Ulta I got two Makeup Revolution eyeshadow palettes- the Ultra Eye Contour Light & Shade (love this one) ,and Flawless Matte, some Nyx lip pencils in Pale Pink, Citine, Tarte Glitter Liner in Silver, and Nars Audacious Lipstick in Brigitte. I got the Anastasia Lip Palette and I love it! I also picked up some CeraVe; my dermatologist lives it but last time I tried it things didn’t work out. Now I like it a lot. Weekend Plans: I think it’s going to be in the 60s today so I’d like to get out. Aside from visiting my parents just a few miles away & going to the library I don’t have any plans. Do you like traveling? I do, but never really have an opportunity to do so.
