Maybelline Silver Starlet Baked Eyeshadow Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Maybelline Silver Starlet Eye Studio Baked Eyeshadow
Quick Review: Maybelline Silver Starlet Baked Eyeshadow
Maybelline Silver Starlet Baked Eyeshadow Duo ($7.29 for 0.09 oz.) is a baked eyeshadow (similar to MAC’s Mineralize Eyeshadows), and one side is solid while the other is marbled. When swatched, the product works amazing whether wet or dry–the solid side is a steely blue with frosty, silver sheen; the marbled side a neutral champagne pink with a frosted sheen. The blue shade is actually similar to the blue from MAC’s Sea & Sky Duo.
It has a smooth texture, high frost finish, and both shades were incredibly pigmented. In the past, I’ve found that baked eyeshadows often must be used wet in order to achieve good color pay off, but these worked well dry, too. I did have the ever slightly noticeable fading after eight hours of wear with Maybelline’s Baked Eyeshadow Duos, but it was very slight.
Welcome to Swatch-all-idays! To start 2011 off on the right foot (or post, as it may be!), Temptalia is going through a backlog of products we have photographed, swatched, and often tested but in a slightly different manner. Quick reviews may be partially incomplete, such as a blush may only be swatched on the arm rather than shown on the face. It is our hope that what we are able to provide is still helpful!

RECOMMENDATION: Maybelline has several other variations on their duos, and based on this one, these might be a great alternative to higher-end baked eyeshadows like MAC’s Mineralize Eyeshadows–perhaps not necessarily exact dupes in terms of colors but the product type is quite similar.

Thanks for the review. I have been debating on whether to try these out.
Hey temptalia didn’t you have a mac collection coming out or am I just crazyy
That was an April Fools joke! 🙂
Oh thats stinks I would have totally bought that collection :))))
Have u seen the new Milani Mineralized eyeshadows at CVS? They are gorgeous, they have metallics and marbelized. I’m thinking that they are definitely topnotch as I have always felt they were on par with MAC and sometimes better than MAC in the pigment department.
I’ve seen their metallic ones, I think – I did not like those though… I reviewed several of their baked eyeshadows, but they were very sheer! Milani’s one of my favorite drugstore brands, so I was disappointed 🙁
Awhh, I am hoping this new batch is better. Waiting for a BOGO at CVS or Walgreens to try them out. Keeping my fingers crossed!
You might wana take a peak at these new ones. I just bought one and its amazing!
You seemed to have gotten lucky with this one. I have Tantalizing Teal, and the only way to get a good color payoff is to apply it wet with a white base underneath. The color’s lovely when you’re done though.
Really? That is not good to hear! I had really excellent pigmentation on this one and the other shade I tried (Sinful Sinnamon). Too bad about the teal…
I had good luck with the Teal BUT the first few swipes I took seemed to be kind of weak…maybe there is something coating the top?
Also, these are 40% off at Rite-Aid this week!
Very interesting… LOL! I will make a mental note on that!
Light blue is not the best color in the world for an eyeshadow, I’d say!
Hi Christine, do you know if the duo for this in Carbon Frost is in any way similar to the Mac Mineralize Duo Pink Split from the Electro Flash collection?
No idea!
ooh, gorgeous colors.
though i think my favorite one that i have is sinful sinnamon
I bought 4 of these over the summer because they looked interesting and I absolutely hated them. Threw ’em all out in my last purge. I couldn’t get good pigment wet or dry, the texture felt weird, and the colors were so muddy. Maybe I just picked bad colors. I got light pink/charcoal?(I don’t know how to best describe the metallic swirly color, some kind of dark silvery black) ,blue/charcoal, purple/charcoal, and green/charcoal. Maybe they have improved the formula since then. They were a brand new item at CVS when I got them.
I think mine were from the summer, too – I’ve had these for awhile (backlog!). I have two shades – the one here and Sinfully Sinnamon – both were good! I was totally surprised…
I think I may have one or two more I haven’t touched but now I am curious!
I’m not loving the colour combination. The blue is too light to me to be a crease colour.
that light blue looks lovely!
Thanks for this review. I would have not paid attention to this e/s otherwise!
Thanks so much for reviewing these! I have the black and pink one and I love-love-LOVE it! It’s great to see swatches of another of these duos! 🙂
This is awesome! The swatches wet and dry are almost the same. Wonder if we will get this here.
I just bought two of these (the blue one and this one) for two of my friends for their birthdays 🙂 both loved them!
I’ve definitely stopped and thought about trying these out at Target, etc, but thanks to your review I’m more willing to give them a chance.
Although from the comments I wish there was more info on the quality of other shades.
I have this eyeshadow! Its the only one I have tried from the Maybelline baked eyeshadows and I love it! I normally dislike drugstore brands but this was certainly a hit for me, Im so glad you reviewed it!
I just bought Silver Starlet and Carbon Frost and i must say im in love!!! These are so pretty mi especially fond of the marble color in Carbon Frost it is gorgeous! I can’t wait to wear them.
PS your reviews are sinful, everytime i see something i like here i have to run out and try it grrr.
Oooh, yay!! I’m so glad they worked well for you 🙂 I was a bit nervous after some readers said they had poor experiences!
Oh My! When I saw it, I thought “Oooohhh what a nice photo of the Moon”. The box with the shimmer looks like a starry sky… 😀
Nice shadows!!!
LoL I know
I own two of these in Khaki Craze and Sinful Sinnamon. Khaki Craze is great and so is Sinful Sinnamon with the exception of the ligther color which is glittery. I bought these when they were 40% off so they were super cheap.
@Liliana, I have two of the baked Milani eyeshadows in I Heart You and Pink Twice. I agree with Christine, they are very sheer. But the colors are pretty. You definitely will need a good base to bring the colors out.
I wasn’t sure about the Metallics so I passed on those.
I have this in Ivy Icon, and it is absolutly phenominal. It blends so pretty and the color is as light or dramatic as you want. The maybelline website gives advice on some different ways to wear it. I have silver starlet too and Christine, I did not get the same color payoff as you! I will def have to go home and try it again!
One reader said that it took several swipes off the top to get better results… wonder if that would help? Let me know, though!!
I tried it, and that reader was right (about the blue side). I got ok color payoff on the lighter side, but maybe I have to dig deeper.
Oops I also forgot and wanted to say it reminds me of a lighter and frostier version of UD Gunmetal!
i have this one and it’s super lovely! the two colors work well together especially for paler girls i think.
Sigh… so pretty… remind myself to not buy.
This is so pretty but I can’t buy it unfortunately, since Maybelline tests on animals. 🙁
