Can anyone explain what exactly happens at the party?
I’ve never been but my assumption is that it’s exclusive to VIBs. Since 11/11 is a holiday it would be holiday hours (like 10am-6pm or something) and the store would be open after hours (6-9pm as stated) for the party. You probably shop like you’d usually would, but with the perks of getting the 20% in-store, sampling godiva chocolates, receiving a free reusable tote. The workers would probably be more inclined to be nicer.
I just came back, and it’s nothing special. They had a “roped off area” which was about 5×4′ in the front of the store. There, they served apple cider and had godiva chocolates. That’s all it was. Not really that exciting.
I tried on a look featured in the Sephora holiday catalogue (on the cover). I don’t know if it’s because the make up artist didn’t know, or because she didn’t have time to do it properly, but in the store, she just applied the make up forever #7 cream shadow on my lower lid. When I got home, I applied more shadow, and then blended it out by putting concealer on top of it. This DEFINITELY helped achieve the look, however, I don’t think I had the most deft hand in blending.
I also think it would have been nice if they had included some free samples in the tote. It makes me want to only order online when they never give free samples in-store, because online I can get 3 free samples every time I place an order, and furthermore, Sephora.com is currently running a promo where you get a free bag with 7 free samples.
If you didn’t make it to the party, don’t worry, because you didn’t miss out on much!
I agree with Xtina. I went to my local store in NYC and the SA’s were mad cranky which is ridiculous because I spend a lot of money at Sephora! Even the manager gave me attitude. Better off shopping online!
I went yesterday and unfortunately it was a waste of time. First off all, there were no godiva chocolates, there was a coupon for x% of purchase of $75…wtf?! Second, the line was out the door and the sales associates looked extremely annoyed by it, I guess everyone was trying to get that tote. There were practically no sales associates around to help me find anything because there were too many people asking for help, the tutorials or whatever were being done by ONE person who was already backed up at 6:01pm. That Sephora doesn’t carry Lorac or Too Face, so that threw off my order. And yes, I guess at this point I didn’t feel too special and decided to get home and order online instead 🙁
Canadians can use this in stores only, because apparently we still live in the ice age!! Haha. I’m grateful to have a discount though.
I just got this. I’m debating whether to do the party. I’m actually a little peeved that this happened so soon after the F&F sale. I spent most of my money THEN, and the extra discount would have been nice. Especially since I bought items online with sales tax. It would have been nice to defray the 20$ or so that was tax ALONE. Ugh.
I like that it came afterward. Now I can have 20% off of new items that Sephora has gotten since the F&F sale. And you have to pay sales tax either way…
Not for me. I live RIGHT on the border of a state with no sales tax, and if I go to buy it in store, the nearest ones are there anyways. So 90% of the time, I can get what i want without dealing with it. And I could probably have gotten a large part of my purchase there, once they’d restocked colors. The timing is just VERY annoying, since I bought stuff online that I thought my store was out of stock in, for the less discount, plus sales tax….. I didn’t save as much as I’d like to think. It would have been better if I’d known to wait.
But then, I like to know as far in advance as I can so i can pace myself, save money, etc. So I don’t like feeling flummoxed not knowing how much to spend, or what i should seriously look into buying…
I totally agree. I saved up for weeks for the F/F sale and spent all my money on that, telling myself that I was on a no-buy afterward to justify my spending. I would have waited to purchase that second order I made if I had known this was coming.

I am also irked that this is so soon after FF. Between Sephora’s and Beauty.com’s FF sales I got everything I wanted. And now I’m broke!
The Canadian Kick off party is tonight so I’m going after work. I’m bringing my Aunt as my guest because she always thinks Sephora is too expensive. Now she has an excuse to buy with the 20% off. I told myself I was just going to pick up some of my basics but I doubt I will actually follow through with that lol

Kind of bummed that I can’t go to the party to get my tote. Kids with basketball practice, homework etc.. Wish they had it on the weekend.
I got my tote before the party which was today in Canada. If you ask them nicely I’m sure they will give one to you as long as there is some left. Worked for me anyway

No, the tote is empty. But it’s super cute and made of a vinyl material so you can use it for going out shopping or putting your lunch in it. About the size of a small Lululemon shopping bag.
I’m not going to the little party. I’ll be too tired for the travel after work. I can’t wait to hit sephora Saturday though. The one in soho with the mufe studio will be my playground.

Yeah but purchases don’t count towards vib status/recertification, at least that’s what sephora has under membership reqs.

I’m confused by the comments that this is an “extra” discount- F&F was the same percent off, right? I did four mini-hauls during F&F, so I don’t really need anything else. (Two online orders, two in-store. One of the girls at the store near me gave me a postcard to use in-store.)
I may stop in, anyway, to see if they’ve gotten any new holiday things in, and if they’ve got the new giant size FAB Ultra Repair Cream, I’ll get that. If not, I might just get my husband a Jack Black lip balm; I tried it for the first time with the F&F sale, and I really like it. Then I can get the free tote.
Otherwise, I probably won’t buy anything, as I want to get one of the MAC holiday sets that comes out tomorrow.
My tote had 3 samples in it. I think it depends on the store though. I’m pretty excited about one of the samples. Bliss youth as we know it moisturizer. I’ve been wanting to try it for awhile.
The Sephora I shop at regularly frequently tosses “extra” samples into my bag when I buy stuff. Some are the smaller packet samples, but sometimes they are bigger deluxe-sized items that aren’t available for points, but they happen to have on hand. I think it really does depend on your store, plus if the staff knows you well they might be more likely to give you extra samples.
I don’t really need anything, but I am going to stop in and buy something just so I get the tote. (I’m such a sucker!)
I just went today, because it’s on Wednesday for canadians. The tote is actually smaller than I expected.. and in Canada we didn’t get the sweepstakes or Godiva chocolates. My store did have some chocolate and tea, which was still nice!

No, that makes you a Beauty Insider. If you’ve spent $350 in a calendar year as a Beauty Insider, then Sephora makes you a VIB. One way I know I’m a VIB is that when I log into Sephora.com and click on ‘My Account’, it tells me I’m a VIB below my Beauty Insider points. Hope that helps! Send them a quick email if you’re unsure. I think Sephora sent me an email when I became a VIB, but I’m not sure.
I got my thing in the mail last week I think. I spent most of my money during the F&F sale, and then the rest on a few items from the 20% off Beauty.com sale. Now, I am actually trying to figure out what I would buy, and I’m coming up on empty. Maybe I’ll buy a Bobby Brown shimmerbrick or NARS Albatros. Any suggestions???

Keep in mind that you must spend at least $350 to qualify for the VIB program. First you must have a Beauty Insider membership (which is free) and for every dollar you spend you earn 1 Beauty Insider point.

If you didn’t get the VIB discount but are a Beauty Insider member the most likely reason you DIDN’T get one via mail or email is because you haven’t spent enough money to get a VIB account. Also keep in mind that the VIB account is reset at the end of December so if you spend $350 now to become a VIB it’s almost a waste of money since the VIB perks will only last until December 31 (and today is November 11).
It won’t be a waste of money. if you spent $350 this year you will be VIB next year also.
That’s true. I’m now a VIB through the end of December 2011. My bank account has suffered a lot lately LOL!
Quick question about VIB.. so foreign about this LOL. so you spend $350 and become a VIB member. then what?? do you get a discount everytime you shop at Sephora? Or is it more like you have access to a few sales and that’s about it. Thanks for your help!!

im SOOOOOOOOO happy now. i figured id share this here because no one i know in real life would understand. but…i went into town today because i needed a couple of things from my beauty supply store, and id figure i would just pop into the mall to go to sephora with my coupon and see what they had just in case i wanted something. anyways, i was looking around and stopped over by the urban decay stand just to see if they had the Naked palette (figuring they wouldnt) and they had it!!!!!!!!!! i was sooo excited. ive been dyyyying for the website to get them in stock for sooo long. (i know its not LE, but i still wanted it now, lol) and because they’ve been out of stock i couldnt use the F&F coupon, which is what i wanted to use it for. the sales associate ringing me up told me that they werent even supposed to get them in at all, and see was excited for it as well =). and none of the other sephoras around me werent getting them in either.
i knew something inside my head told me to just go and see. what perfect timing with the 20% and all.

I got the tote last night, but it wasn’t the one in the picture. It was a greyish Korres re-usable cloth bag, which surprised me since I was expecting the one in the pic! However, it was full of samples so I was happy! =)

I don’t want to rub salt in anyone’s wounds, but the totes from the VIB event at my local Sephora were AWESOME – Nars Orgasm Illuminator, lots of Too Faced primers, a bunch of creams and lotions, Fresh mascara, Lancome mascara, Posie Tint, High Beam. There was also a DJ and free makeovers. The woman made me look a bit…..tranny-ish, but she was super nice and it was tons of fun, despite the garish eye makeup.
You got stuff in your tote bag? I’m jealous! All I got was the black vinyl tote bag, completely empty. I was thinking it might make a good lunch bag, but other than that I can’t think of any use for it.
