Look: Ode to Hourglass G*psy

Ode to Hourglass G*psy

I have raved about Hourglass’ Visionaire Eyeshadow Duos before–the texture is really top notch: buttery, soft, and easy to blend. I don’t think there’s a single thing I dislike about these duos. The price is hefty, but then they give you a ton of each color. I would love to see them put out more shades, though. Is that a con? Hm.

As you can tell from this look, I was test-driving quite a few products I’ve yet to review.  Some quick notes…

  • Hourglass Gpysy eyeshadow duo makes for a really easy, go-to everyday look
  • Lancome Definicils Precious Cells mascara clumped up a lot, seemingly dry, so I’m going to have to check the tube and do some more testing
  • NARS Sex Appeal blush barely shows up on me (NC25/NC30 skin tone, for reference), bummer!
  • NARS Bougainville lipgloss is a sexy, vampy shade — in the vein of Strawberry Fields but noticeably darker

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), Hourglass G*psy Eyeshadow Duo (champagne/chocolate brown), MAC Lord It Up Pearlglide Eyeliner (dark brown), Lancome Definicils Precious Cells Mascara (black)
  • Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
  • Cheeks: NARS Sex Appeal Blush
  • Lips: NARS Bougainville Lipgloss
  • Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply the champagne eyeshadow all over the lid, blending just above the crease.  Next, apply the chocolate brown eyeshadow into the crease with the 226 and blend softly above and below the crease.  Lightly highlight the brow bone with the champagne eyeshadow with the 217.  Bring everything together by applying Lord It Up pearlglide eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Hypnose Precious Cells mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sex Appeal blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Bougainville lipgloss for a complementing lip.

So pretty and appropriate for many occasions. Those descriptions are so persuading “buttery, soft, easy to blend” and look pigmented!!! The Dune eyeshadow duo soon might be my first Hourglass shadow duo, of course I love neutrals so Gypsy is also on the list 🙂

A perfect fall look. Gorgeous! 🙂

I knew NARS Sex Appeal would be a hard shade to show up! I have NC 20/25 skin and I had a hard time believing this blush would appear even on my skin tone after swatching it.

But I guess it’s about time NARS brought out some more subdued shades of blushes, LOL.

I can kind of see Sex Appeal! I’m still debating on this one. I saw it in person earlier this week but it’s so light and I’m pretty pale myself but it seems like you gotta work really hard to get it to show…

Wow, that’s an awesome look on you, that lipgloss is gorgeous!
I actually kind of like the fact that the blush doesn’t really show up on you, I think the paler cheeks combined with the dark lip are making your hair look super dark black in contrast. I would kill to have that as my natural hair colour!

Oh, wow! I heart the colors soo very much. These two are colors that I use often, and I’ve been meaning to get some Hourglass products…but I might have to behave and buy them for Christmas.

I love this look! And now I’m really sad I didn’t pick up NARS sex appeal during the Sephora F&F sale, since I really like subtle blush tones. My skin tone is somewhat similar to yours — so your pics always are really helpful for deciding. =)

I love this look. It works for every occasion! And it’s super classy.
The blush does look light in the pan. Do you think it’d look good on NW05-10 skin? Is it pigmented or sheer?

Looks great! 🙂 Did you use a lipliner? I just ordered Bougainville online, and thought I might need one since it’s so dark and intense. I don’t have any lipliners, so if you used one I’ll just buy the same one 😛

have you tried Alaway eye drops? I have itchy sensitive allergy prone eyes too, and the antihistamine drops help me a lot. I know you’re not supposed to use cortisone cream on your face long term, because it causes thinning of the skin. But sometimes when my eyes are swollen/ puffy I use the anti-inflammatory hydrocortisone cream and it helps.

Eyeliner on the waterline really causes allergies for me, which is a real shame because it adds so much to a look. I am currently saving up for permanent makeup for eyeliner and eyebrows, so I don’t have this problem anymore
