Have you ever splurged on a beauty item and regretted it?
Have you ever splurged on a beauty item and regretted it? What was it and why?
When I bought DiorShow many years ago, it was a HUGE splurge for me, as I had just gotten into makeup, but it smudged and flaked all over me.
Thanks to Dominique for today’s question! Got a question idea? Submit yours here.
my first chanel purchases: jade rose nail varnish, mat lumiere foundation and mica glossimer. I just simply couldn’t justify the price for any of these items and returned them all the next day. Jade rose was a beautiful color, but in my eyes it wasn’t worth $25. Mat Lumiere smelled like roses too much and I couldn’t stand it. And again, Mica was just too expensive for just a gloss. sighh
MAC Ombre Blush. I got caught up in the hype and bought one. I forget the name, but it’s way too pale for me and a complete waste. It was $25 and I can’t bring myself to throw it away and I’ve swatched it too much to give away.
Yeah the blush ombre blushes are pretty sheer…maybe wear a cream blush and then put the blush ombre on top. A way to use it anyway.
Mines was Tarte jewelry box 2010.. I was debating between the loracs box and this… The eyshadows are very sheeer!
chanel soleil de tan!
it was super orange and blotchy 🙁
I agree on the DiorShow! gave me the worst raccoon eyes, a smudgy mess!
Yes, Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light. I have a fairly oily t-zone and I had high-hopes that this was the primer for me. Wrong. In fact I am forced to believe that it caused more oiliness, but this is just from my personal experience. For others it could give them the perfect oil-free skin they’ve longed for.
I went to MAC to buy Lovechild lipglass (which I still love b/c of it’s amazing color) & ended up buying 2 more lipglasses. It was my first foray into lipgloss, so it was a splurge. Big mistake. For what they are, compared to other brands, I can spend $2-4 more & get a completely non-sticky lipgloss w/ a tad bit more product & be completely satisfied. I never quite believed those who said MAC lipglass is soo sticky & unnecessarily glittery until I tried other brands. It’s true. Won’t buy any more…Sorry, MAC – fail.
Yes! I went into MAC and since I’m still new to high end makeup, I always get a sales person to help me. I told her I wanted a bronzer with out any shimmer or anything. Completely matte. She convinced me to buy the MSF in Comfort which was really shimmery 🙁 I mean it’s really nice but it’s not what I wanted.
Yes. The $50 lipgloss XL LipFusion that never worked.
I had tried make up forever’s matte velvet foundation way too thick and it made me break out 🙁
Chanel Vita Lumiere foundation—such a big upset for me.
This isn’t exactly a splurge but I bought the 88 color coastal scents palette and I barely use it. Also, I bought the Nars “So Famous” set, and I regret buying it because I only use the blush.
Just wondering, do you not use it frequently because of the colors or the quality? Because I’ve been thinking about buying their 88 Metal Mania palette.
Not the OP, but I use my Shimmer 88 all the time. Everything’s highly pigmented, with the exception of the light blues, in my opinion. So I would recommend their palettes, if you think the colors in that palette are useful to you and you don’t find the size of the palette to be unwieldy.
Mostly because I don’t like bright colors. I think some of the colors are a bit chalky and I dislike the matte texture but you won’t have the texture issue with the metal mania palette.
I was also very very dissapointed with Diorshow… The brush was cool but it flaked like hell. And it dried ut in like two months!
I got it as a gift, but same.
Last year I splurged on my first Chanel product, Pro Lumiere Foundation. I was color matched by the MUA but it was too light, it looked pasty and sickly so I went back to exchange and couldn’t find a shade that was right for me. So I ended up exchanging for one of their powder foundations and they color matched me again too light! So the powder has sat on my vanity ever since. I was so over dealing with the MUA at this Chanel Counter.
When a mua matches you at their counter, I always ask for a sample to bring home and try myself.. I found that it always looks good in the store and then when u get home with the new purchase, it may not look the same..
If they hesitate to give u a sample, just tell them that if u r not happy, u r going to bring it back.. Most high end stores will accommodate you.. I have learned from experience. The stuff is too Pricy to not be happy
I sort of splurged on the NARS Orgasm Illuminator and the only reason I regret it is that I never use it. I don’t know why I even felt the need to get it because I already have the blush and the multipurpose stick.
I know what you mean! I use it on just under my eyebrows now for a nice subtle highlighting effect.
Oh, there’s a few 🙂 I got the Chanel Inimitable Waterproof – unfortunately it flaked on me and left dark circles ( while being waterproof, right? lol). But luckily I could return it, because I was really mad, a waterproof mascara really shouldn’t do that! 🙂
Plus Bobbi Browns Blush in Apricot (just not my color, it was around 35 Dollar in Germany) plus Benefits Dandelion (45 dollars…) 🙂 Yeah well…;) That’s all for now 😀
wow…and I thought those brands where expensive in Portugal…btw I regret bying Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash…22€ for a mascara that doesn’t do anything special…I could have bought something better with that money…
Yep. I bought L’Artisan Parfumeur L’Eau d’Ambre when I was dazed by Amouage’s Lyric on my other wrist and totally regret it now. It isn’t a bad scent by any reckoning, but I wish I’d bought some nice skincare or maybe another perfume. It makes a nice “lounging round the house” scent, though.
Christine, I’m on a one year makeup ban! Obviously, things like mascara and foundation aren’t part of the ban, but I’ve been sticking to it since August and it’s pretty ok. I spend more time and money on my skincare and wow, is it ever paying off! Btw, it’s only thanks to you that I started to wear sunscreen and it makes a big, BIG difference. I was quite sensitive to the sun even though I’m dark, but I just couldn’t be bothered. Now I don’t get irritated and I find my pigmentation marks are clearing up! Thank you, Christine!
Please please could someone help me? I have a number of Urban Decay eye shadows and MAC eye shadows but I haven’t been able to depot them to put them into a palette. Is there some trick to depotting? I don’t want to damage my collection but I just don’t seem to be able to get the eye shadowes out?
Liz
Have you checked YouTube for tutorials, Liz?
I spent something like $48 on a Dior eyeshadow palette, and it was a total waste. I hate how it goes on, wears, feels and I never touch it.
diorshow is the love of my life!
i’ll have to punish it for being bad to you :(((
Last summer (2009) I watched Smashbox on QVC. Halo had just come out and I was intrigued. A few days later I bought it @ Ulta. I believe it was $35. I’m not knocking ‘Halo’ per say, but just don’t get its hype. $35 for a finishing powder, I regret. I still have it and occasionally use it, but its never been a ‘go-to’ item..
NARS e\s in strada =(
doesn’t look true to the pan at all !!! in pan its this beautiful gold \ purple that swatches nicely, on my eyes its this horrible grey shade that I cant describe !! I tried different bases even colored ones but no matter what it shows horrible on my eyelids
I bought YSL Rouge Volupte in #7. Even though I’m pale, golden blonde and grey eyed, it still makes me look like Snooki. How is that even possible? I swear by #1, though.
Maybe you could try patting it on and then putting a more glossy nude lipstick over it. It might make it less barbie pink. Or put a nude on first then pat the #7 over it. IDK lol, just a suggestion 🙂
YSL Touche Eclat! I’m not quite sure what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn’t worth it for me. It’s okay and all, and does a decent job of brightening the under-eye area, but my usual MAC Moisturecover gives me more opaque coverage and doesn’t drive me bonkers with that clicky-pen business. I also don’t like how I can’t see how much I have left in the tube, with Touche Eclat. I think if I’d thought of it more as a highlighter instead of a concealer, I would have been happier.
IA!
Hell yes! Every YSL product (a HUGE price tag for me) was just dissappointed…eyeshadows: no pigmentation. Loose powder: set into my fine lines. touche eclat: blah product. Ogh.
Oh yes, it actually happened quite often…
Lately, Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara : clumpland.
Guerlain Parure Extrème foundation : makes me look older by setting into fine lines.
A while ago, as I was just starting to get interested in makeup, and I was hearing a lot about Mac eyeshadows, I bought Tilt and Trax : big disappointment with both, Tilt being super sheer and Trax really hard to work with and not true to the pan.
Strada eyeshadow by Nars : just awful. It looks like a bright shimmery highlighter in the pan, but it’s actually a medium purple that is just impossible to work with. (I should probably try it again now that I’m more experienced though.)
UD Deluxe shadow in Ransom : gorgeous color in the pan, but really not pigmented enough…
An eyeshadow duo by YSL, don’t remember the reference : it was so beautiful, a medium/dark true purple with blue shimmer and a dark taupy gray, but I had crazy (and I mean, crazy) fallout, they would just not stick to my eyelids…
I could probably find more, but if I think about all these misses too much I’m gonna get depressed !
I Splurged on 4 or 5 different types of coastal scents palettes becuase i heard so many good things and you know what? I didnt love them like i thought i would so now the collect dust in the bathroom…. ::Sad::
the whole dare to wear collection!
Agreed!! I bought a lipgloss, it’s gorgeous, but totally unwearable! It’s like putting blue glitter on my lips 🙁
Yep!
Yes I to bought DiorShow mascara in the past and wasn’t impressed since a higher end mascara I expect to not flake.
UD Indecent lipstick at $29 CAN was my most recent regret from 2 years ago, the shades was so pretty but the taste was horrendous and it was the only UD lipstick I had bought so it left me questioning the whole line.
I spend more on skincare than I do on makeup, but I bought a $20 tube of mascara from Smashbox, and it smudged under my eyes. That is expensive for me. Same thing happens with MAC mascara. I have better luck with drugstore mascara.
Purple Lab Silk Sheets Foundation. It did not feel luxurious as it is marketed. For how much I paid for it, there was nothing impressive about it, and the color doesn’t look right on me either.
Yeah. I’m a student so basically anything that’s not from a drug store brands is a splurge for me. Last year I decided to treat myself to an Estee Lauder Projectionist mascara because I had read good reviews about it online. It came to nearly $30 with tax (Canadian), but I didn’t think it was any better than most Maybelline or L’oreal mascaras I’ve ever tried. Kinda felt guilty for spending that much on something that was only so-so.
mine was quite recently actually. i bought Dior Diorshow Blackout and i can’t stand it!! It’s sort of goopy and doesn’t hold the curl and i don’t notice it being any blacker than other mascaras. The blackest one that i have ever used to date is Bare Escentuals Buxom, and it’s also the best one as well, but i’m such a mascara whore that i like to try out different ones.
Clarins Barocco Face Shimmer powder… pathetic cardboard box, and the powder flies EVERYWHERE as soon as you take the lid off, as the powder puff is wedged directly on top of the uncovered gold pearls. Very disappointing for £29
Loads of times. Recently i bought four pigments, Pastorale, Grape, Nocturnelle Plum, And genuine orange. I spent about £30 pounds on them all, which was great because i wouldve paid £64 pounds if i bought them direct from the mac store. But i totally regretted them all apart from Grape (which is now my FAVE pigment in the world), Ive learnt to embrace Pastorale after discovering a very pretty shade when i apply it over sea me shadestick, and im thinking about selling noturnelle plum on ebay like i did with Genuine Orange. I dont like buying makeup i wont use
i’m glad you told me about your experience with diorshow. my girlfriend raves about diorshow. however, i can see fallout under her eyes. i thought it was her choice of eyeshadow and never thought it could be the mascara. hmm. i’m glad i almost didn’t buy diorshow when i was standing there in front of it.
I bought the D&G Amythyst and Cosmopolitian lipsticks from their fall collection. I returned them. They weren’t anything special, they smelled kinda chemically and they weren’t the colors I was hoping for. Im sure there are lots of other makeup things I’ve regretted. 🙂
I have three brand-new Bobbi B shimmer bricks that I thought I had to have. I’ve yet to use a single one.
I bought a pot rouge from her- did not look good. Actually, it was too much to apply. I wanted the shimmerbrick in nectar , because it is so pretty, but Im hesitating because Im not sure if Ill actually use it or if it would look ashy
I bought the Nectar Shimmer Brick and feel the same way. I open it sometimes to look at how pretty it is. But that’s it. It makes me look frosty and oily.
Creme de la Mer. what a load. I also bought a pro airbrush system a few years back but its completely impractical for me. Total waste of money
UD Lingerie and Galoshes lash primer and waterproofer. After trying this, it was YEARS before I got brave enough to try another primer, it was so bad. And the store was too far away for me to even return it!
I’ve gotten better about returning things I hate, but it still has to be REALLY bad for me to consider it.
It’s funny how my definition of a splurge has changed though. That UD product WAS a splurge! Now, I consider a product “average” if that’s what i pay for it. I just shelled out for the Guerlain meteorites. I probably should feel a little guilty.
Yes. In The Groove trio mineralize eyeshadow from MAC.. the only colour I like is the middle strip. I actually detest one of the side colours.
I also bought a stila eye kajal, and it was terrible. returned it asap.
GUERLAIN Meteorites Powder for Face #03 ($54) is absolutely not worth the price in my view, wish I did not get tempted.
Some eye creams that seemed great at first but then gave me milla. And some of the Urban Decay palettes, they seems like a really great idea to get a good cross section of eye shadows but I usually only wind up using one or two colors from each one so they’re kinda a waste.
UD BOSIII. i got it about a month ago and am still regretting it..im prob going to put it up on makeupalley since i have only used it maybe 3 times
my nars products. I have a multiple stick from Nars – never use it. And I bought a nars shadow – first I grabbed the wrong shade, then the shadow doesnt show up on me at all – and this is with a primer
I splurged on Bumble and Bumble quenching shampoo and conditioner. They made my hair look fantastic in the salon, but when I use them at home they make my hair look greasy. I’d rather stick to my drugstore shampoo and conditioner because I’ve really never had much luck with the more expensive kinds–they always weigh my fine hair down.
Not particularly a splurge but a waste of money considering how awful it was ($25). Tarte released a set of 3 mini cheek stains last year during the holiday season with really cute packaging that consisted of rhinestones on the silver containers. It came in three colors: a bronze, a coral color, and a rose color. They were very very very sheer, even by normal cheek stain standards. The textures of the products were very grainy, and they never quite set on the face. It didn’t feel like a cream blush, it felt like I applied lip balm on my cheeks. Determined to make use of them, the following week I grabbed the bronzey one to try to use it in a look, and some type of oil had seeped through from the product onto the surface of the product, and I had stored them in a cool and dry area! What a bummer.
They do make pretty Christmas tree ornaments though. Too bad I didn’t have a Christmas tree either.
Wow I had the exact same issues with these! I thought it was only me, too. Such a letdown.
Funny, I was just looking at the new cheek stain trio at Sephora today and I was disappointed in the sheerness as well.
Chanel Rouge Coco in Rouge Orage. LOVE the color, formula wears terribly on me. Too dry, settles into lip lines.
Nars Turkish Delight lipgloss.
Probably because I have really pigmented lips, but this color just went on horribly, smells horrible and did not last on my lips for more than an hour. I try to make it work over lipsticks because I spent the money, I might as well use it – but overall: eh. I might give Nars gloss another go in a darker shade…
If you have Mac lip erase, maybe that could help the color to look better??
or the one by Dior might help too
I bought frederick fekkai shampoo conditioner hairspray wave spray hair mask, almost everything fekkai in every type. Gave my head horrible scabs and flakes. Terrible. Biggest disappointment of my life
I went to a Chanel counter 2 weeks ago. I intended to buy the Nourishing creme for dry skin and the hydrating serum. I have extremely dry skin around my mouth and sometimes I have to use prescription creams. So I need something reeeeeaaaally strong in order to stay away for the pharmacy and the dermatologist!
The SA said that it’s way too heavy and I should try the comfort cream. Then she said that they don’t have the nourishing cream in stock. I’m sure that’s why she recommended the the comfort cream. I spent 180 euros and I’m not getting the result I want… I always listen to the SA and always regret doing so… I promise I won’t do it again!!! I’ll buy the cream I want (the one I’ve researched for 3 hours on the interenet) and the shade of foundation I know matches my neck and not the inside of my arm! lol
Wait a minute…are you saying the SA used the inside of your arm to color match? That’s so wrong :/
My SA “matched” my foundation to my face. I didn’t realize I was some weird combination of peach, yellow & brown. I’m not. I’m an NC15 and I was totally mortified as I hustled through the store to the bathroom to wash that crap off my face.
I bought one Rouge de Serum lipsticks from Dior. I was okay with the color but the formula isn’t that moisturizing. So I’m stuck with $32 lipstick. Oh well.
I’ve had horrible luck with foundations my whole life. I finally decided to try Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation… no good. And at $59 I sure expected a whole lot more. To add insult to injury, I bought Rimmel Long Lasting foundation a few days ago for $5.84 and I love love love it
Every single one of my MSF’s. I never use them. Oh, and the Creme Bronzer from the To the Beach Collection.
Hands down it would have to be my recent purchase of DiorShow. I purchased it based on popular opinion that this is a great mascara that gives you lots of volume without many of the mascara “side effects” (clumping, flaking, etc.) I have to say, I completely wasted my money. After a week of trying to like (even a little) this mascara, I have to say it was the biggest waste of money. I’m still in my 30 days – if I can get back to Bloomingdales (1 1/2 hours away) in the next week or two I will be returning it!!! *sigh* continuing on my quest for a good mascara…
Mac brush sets, i only got it for the 219 , i wanted to try out more brushes that i didnt have yet but i dont use them at all. the 209 is not cut or shaped properly. how am i supposed to do my eyeliner straight? I’ve been reading your reviews Christine about the Tartan Tale collection brush sets. haha ur right. I also didnt like the YSL rouge volupte #2 only because they are VERY slippery on lips. But I love the packaging and colour. I’ll very it sometimes but not often
I bought full sizes of Benefit Benetint in Posetint and the Moonbeam highlighter and NEVER use it. I tried Moonbeam and Im not so sure when to put it on , since I do my cheeks last I feel like my powdered face gets streaked. Probably cream blush would be better combo. The posetint is hard to work with because you have to blend it in fast or else there will be blotches on where ever its placed( and cannot the fixed because its stained! throughtout the day you have to look like a idiot) Im not loving the colour of it either.
I found Benetint useful under a red lip (in case the lipstick wears off and I cannot fix it right away) and as a slight lip darkener. So true that you have to blend it in right away or it looks ridiculous though! (I usually use my finger and it works out alright)
It is quite a waste of money… when I only use Benetint it usually doesn’t last through eating and drinking 🙁
Yes!! I bought two YSL products two weeks ago. A foundation and eyeshadow palette. It’s over $100 for those two items and the palette is not what I wanted. She told me to buy it so I can get the free gift. I am returning those soon. And the free mascara given was tried out!!!! Rip off!!!
i also had a ysl product, singulier mascara in purple, i hate it! it is soo clumpy and the color payoff is nowhere near good.. sephora’s msacaras are much more colored!i spent about $45 on that mascara, that i never ever use!
I got this Kevyn Aucoin $30 lip gloss. It was supposed to be a sheer, shimmery gray with blue reflects – great for layering, right?
What I got was road tar. Stinky, patchy, sticky, opaque road tar. I could have gotten past the color and opacity – I can work with a black gloss – but the texture and application suck so bad it’s unusable. A world of 🙁
Since there are lots of products unavailable in my country (Indonesia), I had to order online for things, which made them more expensive. I’m very disappointed on buying Stila lip glaze set. All the colors look the same to me and they’re too sticky. Also I bought a 129 se brush as a part of a brush set (the seller bought a set then sell them individually) and I expected it to have the same quality as the original 129 I tried. It doesn’t 🙁
My first major MAC haul over the summer. I have so many freakin’ eye shadows that I don’t like. I’m also a sucker for LE stuff so I have a LOT of high end items that I never use. I have at least $1000 worth of regrettable purchases in my makeup stash.
Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Foundation SPF 15…it has been discontinued since I bought it and there’s good reason for that. It is really nothing special, particularly for a high-end product. It has very sheer coverage, making me pile powder foundation on top. It leaves me incredibly oily after about an hour.
Oh wow, more than I care to think about! NARS Orgasm Lip Gloss, Smashbox O Glow, a Cargo dual gloss that was super gloppy and melted everywhere, a very pale gold Chanel Glossimer I never wear, Tarte cheek stain, NARS blush in Plasir… I could go on and on.
Yep- I regret paying $18 for what amounts to a plain clear gloss from TokiDoki- I thought it would be purple but it has no color when worn.
I also regret Benefit’s BadGal chubby liner pencil- it was the first non-drugstore liner I ever bought (years ago) and it burned and made my eyes water..I’ve never had that happen with an eyeliner since then! Also Benefit’s Realness of Concealness kit. It has Lemon-Aid in it which is awesome, but the shade of Boi-Ing is too dark, the lip plumper looks awful and does nothing, I don’t really like High Beam and I gave away the Ooh La Lift as I didn’t need it. I should have just bought a full-size Lemon-Aid. What a waste of money.
There have been so many… where to begin? Here are a few memorable regrets:
The biggest is probably the Clarisonic, it never did anything for me, I know it worked for a lot of people but it was a waste for me.
Diorshow – hate it too, crazy flaking!
Fresh sugar lip treatment – I must have been delirious to spend that much on a chapstick. It doesn’t moisturize, it is moisturizing while it’s on but after that my lips were so dry
Smashbox cream liners – total crap product, these last like 5 minutes
Tarte cheek stains – they don’t really stain, just sit on the skin and stay sticky all day. Beautiful.
And of course there are a slew of shadows, lipsticks, glosses, etc. that simply don’t look right with my coloring, skin, blah blah blah. We all have those, right? Collecting dust at the bottom of the makeup drawer…
I had a similar experience with the Diorshow mascara… regretted buying it. Would never make that mistake again. From now on it’s Maybelline Stiletto all the way! :o)
Yes, Chanel Noirs Obscurs Eye Shadow Palette. I really didn’t like it all, was so disappointing!
Yes! I bought the Fresh Satin Luster and I totally regret it because it was $45 and I don’t know how to use it.
Not really, I’m very careful with my splurges and am usually pleasantly surprised with the quality. It tends to be the cheaper things that disappoint me.
Biggest regrets: The Clarisonic, Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Nectar (makes oily skin look shinier), all 36 of my OPI nail polishes, BB hydrating moisturizer, MAC Natural Flare Beauty Powder.
Now I’m on a roll! More Regrets: Benefit Hollywood Glo, DiorShow, NARS Orgasm/Laguna duo (Orgasm blush barely lasts an hour and Laguna looks like mud) Benefit Dallas & Dandelion. I REALLY REALLY regret buying ZPalletes. De-potting my expensive shadows was a pain in the a** and everything turned out cracked or mangled. My once-lovely shadows look ugly now. 🙁
I regret most is buying one of Sephora’s combox box makeup…it wasn’t expensive but when I recieved it, the box was broken and the eyeshadows have this weird smell to it. I asked my friend to buy it for me because I don’t live in the States/Canada so I can’t exchange it….
I got talked into the Borghese Fango mud to clear up my broken out skin. While it felt very nice where she tried it on my hand, on my face, it was another story! It burns…burns!! No gentle tingling or refreshing feeling, it burns! I could barely keep it on for 2 minutes and the salesgirl told me to keep it on for 15 (maybe that’s how it would clear my pores, it would burn a layer of skin off). so sad!
I just bought dior forever powder foundation in 01 as there liquids just where not light enough for my skin and this seemed to match a lot better, big mistake though as there is nowhere near enough coverage and i like my coverage sheer to medium at most so that is saying something. I also hate the packaging it looks kinda cheap to me.
Oh and also my supersizes in gatineau’s cleanser and toner for dry sky skin. I love there cleansers and toners but unfortunatly my skin changed due to medication and the summer and my skin went from very dry to very oily so this was just not goos to be used on my skin. On an up note though my skin seems to be drying itself out again thanks to the central heating coming on and yet another change of medication so I might get use out of these yet :).
there’s a lot:
mac liquidlast liner and all their mascaras- all of them take SO long to dry.
dior- it was a christmas eye palette that i bought years ago and i just hate the colors and the pigmentation is horrible
kanebo: foundation- it doesn’t match my skintone at all:( horrible SA
Bobbi brown: tinted moisturizer- it doesn’t do anything for me? Shimmerbricks- i don’t notice a difference at all…i like thebalm’s mary-lou better
Nars lipgloss- they smell so bad after a while:(
I regret UD Sustainable palette. I LOVE my Deluxe shadow and my Naked and my BOSIII but the Sustainable is all a nasty glitter bomb mess of a palette. There are like maybe 2 shades of non-glittery shadows…ugh
I bought one of the chanel fluid iridescence eyeshadows, and it was a total waste of money. The formula is so loose and liquid that it is hard to apply it precisely on your eye and when you blend it out all of the beautiful metallic sheen dissipates. Plus many of the shades apply very patchy, picking and choosing which parts of your lid it wants to be an apparently. Total waste of money. and a lot of money at that!
NARS Torrid. Although I have lots of HE m/u, I very rarely buy cosmetics at full price. I didn’t think I could go wrong with Torrid, but it was a very unnatural, unflattering orange on me. Similar experience with NARS Sheer Glow – the MUA matched me with a shade that was about 2 shades too dark. I returned that one.
I’m with you on the Dior show it’s awful!
I just purchased both the Rose & Amber Diamond Dior Skin Shimmers. I am African American with light brown skin and neither are doing anything for me. After reading such good reviews and swatches on other people I really dont want to give on them. If anyone has some application tips or anything that would help these show up, it would be much appreciated. With a combined total of $88+tax for these products I need some kind of return on investment.
Are you using them as a blush or just a highlighter?
I’m using (or trying to use) Amber Diamond as a highlighter, but when I apply it it just looks powdery instead of applying with a smooth sheen as it does in your blush tutorial. Yesterday, I did Rose Diamond over Peachykeen blush by MAC. I got a somewhat decent result doing this. Any suggestions?
I tried using both as highlighters but nothing worked. They just looked powdery on my skin. I tried using a 129 brush, a 187 brush, and a Sigma flat top kabuki brush. Nothin! I guess I’m done with them 🙁
Major regrets: Coastal scents 88 shimmer palettes which I bought in normal and shimmery, neutral colors palette, I can’t even tell if they are good or bad, just the thought that they are cheap and probably made in china with toxic chemicals keeps me away from using them. Benefit 10, it is supposed to be a blush and an sculpting powder, but they are both too frosty, they are more like highlights. Shisheido powder foundations, the dark tones have an ashy cast on me, I am more olive-yellowed skin, there is no return policy where I bought it, and they are pricy.
Chanel Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle.
Everyone and her mother were practically RAVING about this lipstick and how universally flattering it is. When I saw it in Gatwick’s Duty Free stores I had to snatch it, it was my first ever Chanel product and I couldn’t wait to try it.
Bottomline is, I don’t like it, at all. I hate the roses smell. Granted, it’s very pigmented, but it dries my lips and the colour is much too warm on my skin. More orangey than pink, what does this say for my skin tones? Am I cool- or warm- toned?
yes alot of girls i know say diorshow is not worth the cash at all.
For me it was macs mineralize skinfinish its £17 in the uk and i think thats alot for a powder that doenst really do anythin except blot and its nearly £20 just for nothing tbh.
Its probably the sheerest powder ive used with a brush, dont use with sponge though else you look like an idiot haha
But yeah i regret it, i dont think ill buy it agai nfor my kit, i prefer macs blot powder which does more and is better to use.
x
DiorShow mascara, anything from the brand Fresh (found at Sephora)…the Umbrian clay concealer, Supernova mascara. NARS Habanera eyeshadow duo…I only like one of the colors, the darker purple, not worth $32 and NARS Moon Fleet lipgloss…I barely wear it.
BB neutrals palette
AIW palette–barely touched, def should have waited for the NYC one, much better shades
