Introducing: Makeup Recommendations
Introducing: Makeup Recommendations
We have all found at least a few items we absolutely love and reach for often because they just suit us, whether flattering on our skin tone, with our hair color/eye color, or based on our skin type. This list is designed to help compile our tried and true recommendations to help others find their favorites (and hopefully, you’ll find some new favorites, too!).
We are all our own experts and the power of collaboration allows us to come together and harness all of that expertise in a way that can benefit the entire beauty community. Some of the most popular questions we’ve asked have been related to everyone’s favorite pink blush or red lipstick! Together, we can create a more comprehensive list of our personal favorites, based on our skin tone, skin type, hair color, and eye color.
Share your favorites!
Use our easy recommendation form to add your favorite products and holy grail shades to our list. (Please allow a few minutes for the list itself to update.)
MULTIPLE LISTINGS ARE OKAY! They’re good, even! If 10 people with similar coloring all recommend the same product, isn’t it a sign that it really must be amazing?
Foundation recommendations can be added to the Foundation Matrix.
Head over HERE to check out recommendations as recommended by your fellow enthusiasts.
P.S. — I put in all the product types/colors I thought were appropriate, but if I missed one (I am sure I did!), just let me know in the comments, and I’ll add it ASAP.
Sweet! I can’t wait to see it when more people have contributed! I added a few basic rec’s. I’m curious, when it gets larger, how easily you can separate a particular trait of interest(IE skin tone, eye color) out of all the other responses—right now it seems to be in order of submission?
This will be an awesome resource, though!
Right now, we’re just collecting the data, and then after we see what we get and how much, that’s when we’ll figure out how we’ll structure it. Right now, though, it’s likely be similar to the Foundation Matrix where you can certain options.
I usually try to go through and sort periodically, but I’ll wait until tomorrow or the next day to do the first sort. The way the form works is it does it in order (oldest to most recent) 🙂
Great idea, was just thinking this myself.
what a great idea! i will be sure to add some of my faves!!! you are my new favorite read and an inspiration! I loooove it!!! :)))
Thanks, Tara ;D
Christine, this is awesome! I know I’ll be adding abunch of my favorite blushes. Also, is there an option for Neutral tones on the foundation matrix, or I am just missing it?
No, there is no option for neutral tones in the Foundation Matrix at this time!
Oh wow, you’re a pretty amazing lady Christine! I’ve never seen a guide like your foundation matrix and now a makeup recommendations guide! You are undeniably the best resource on the internet for makeup lovers 😀
Aww, thank you Tiffany!
LOVE! Thank you Christine!
No prob!
I already submitted a bunch! I LOVE this idea. It’s hard to know whether or not something will work for you when the person who swatches a product has a completely different skin tone. I’m excited to see the list!
Christine, my only suggestion would be to add a “multi-tasking product” option or something to the list. I wanted to add a shade of Stila’s Convertible Color but it serves more than one purpose so I wasn’t sure what to put it under.
Thanks for the suggestion, Katie! I would put it under whatever seems to be the general use. My worry about multi-tasking product is that usage will get lost, because you’ll get maybe pigments in there, Multiples, or a loose khol.
Yay! Thanks for submitting!
This is such a great idea! Thanks Christine 🙂 <3
this is a brilliant idea! i love that this a community based effort. its very inspiring! i feel a bit silly asking this but should i just check off that i’m a brunette even though my hair color is so dark it looks kind of black?
My hair is pretty dark brown, almost black, but I consider it still brown! 😀
I wanted to rec the Ben Nye tinted set powders. I think they work better for olive to darker skin tones than the plain translucent set powders. however the form doesn’t have spaces for ranges and doesn’t have a category for set powder.
Great idea Christine, sounds like it will be loaded with valuable information.
Thanks for doing this. I can’t wait to see it when it’s formatted. Will you be adding a category for mascara and primers?
Only products that can vary based on skin tone/skin color 🙂
This is going to be so cool! Haha I could probably find a more sophisticated way to put that though. I’d like to put some recommendations in eventually.. still deciding whether my skin is neutral or cool. It seems in between. Should I just go with cool, since I’m more cool than warm?
Love this idea, Christine! So excited to see everyone’s contributions-and to add some of my own. 🙂
Will you be adding a catagory for loose/pressed powder that isn’t considered a highlighter? Or is that not applicable in this type of database? I wanted to add MUFE HD Microfinish Powder, but there wasn’t an option for loose powders unless they’re used as a highlighter. Thanks again!!
wow. you’re a freaking genius! this is awesome!!
gooooood job!!!!!!!!!!i added few items yst…i will continue today!!:):)
I love this idea! Thanks so much for getting this together!
I don’t see any recommendations for redheads? My hair is dark red and brown! 🙁
It’s community based, so perhaps you could kick it off for red heads by adding your own! 🙂
This is a fantasitic idea and resource! I plan on contributing. The diffult thing will be narrowing down my favorites!
Hmm. So now blue eyed blonds with combination skin don’t exist? Jk, jk, sorry! Just wanted to say that this is a great idea and I’ll definitely be using this in the future!
Could you please add “Berry” as a Color Family?
Hi Christine! Great idea..I’m always ‘trolling for recs anyway now it’ll be easier to find them all in one place!
Just one thing..is it possible to make the top bar fixed so that it stays in place as you scroll down? I had a little trouble figuring out each column once I went down to my shade so I had to keep scrolling back up.
