I just can’t get it to work for me as is makes my pores and acne scars huuuuge, which is sad because I love the glowy, airbrushed look and that it’s good for your skin.

ME TOO!!!! I thought I was the only person out there who had this problem. It stings bad and I have tried everything from prescriptives, Jane Iredale, Bare Minerals…..UGH!!!!! It breaks me out worse as well!!!!

the last time i tried mineral makeup, i broke out and made my skin oily. i would like to use something that is good for my skin but my skin just feels comfortable with the mac studiofix and i don’t want to go through another episode of breakouts again. mineral foundations are also messy esp when i travel a lot. and i’ve never been impressed with mineral e/s and blushes. i think the only mineral item i have is my mac northern lights which is okay, it’s a bit too shimmery but i still like it because of how it looks in the pan.

Mineral lines are often not WOC friendly. I tried several times to be matched at Bare Minerals and I could never be matched.

I dig mineral shadows though.

Sadly Mineral makeup hates me, it doesn’t stay on me for long and it gets EVERYWHERE. I was made too much of a klutz to use loose powder products. =( As for the pressed I might as well get pressed powder foundation.

I love my bare minerals and hate my studio fix, so looks like I’m just the opposite of everyone else 😛 Studio fix NC15 is too dark for me even in the summer (never really found a liquid foundation light enough), it irritates my a lottt, and you can totally tell I’m wearing foundation if I have it on, it doesn’t look natural on me at all. If I feel like Im having a bad skin day I can just buff my bare minerals into my skin: the color matches my skin, it’s light enough coverage to look real, and it’s a powder so if I run around during the day it absorbs sweat. Love it! 🙂 I never have tried mineral eyeshadows, I plan to place an order soon though. 🙂

I love that it’s good for the skin.
I HATE how it’s mostly loose, and messy. Even the eye shadows are really messy. The fallout is horrendous!

I don’t like it at all. Tried different brands and don’t like any of them. They make my face look oily.

Hey Christine! Did you notice that the title says Rant & Rant? LOL…kind of funny especially since it seems like everyone is ranting anyway, LOL.

I hate how every company is jumping on the bandwagon and saying their products are mineral!
I find bare minerals to break me out,it is kind of a harsh product( maybe its just me) but MAC mineral makeup is much better for me!

I am 48 and have fair, dry skin, small pores and very few wrinkles. Mineral foundation covers red spots, flaws and the occasional blemish. However, I hate how it makes my face look shiney, not in an oily way, but a strange dry, metallic, shiney way. It also makes my usually small pores look huge like craters, seems to accentuate every flaw and makes me look older.

I’m wondering why all of the companies are jumping on the mineral bandwagon when there seems to be mostly ranting here :0!

The only thing I don’t like about mineral makeup is the staying power, it seems to flake off pretty easy!

jess Avatar

I don’t like how splotchy it seems to look on me and really magnifies the fact that I have very dry skin on my cheeks and forehead, but I remain shiny on my nose. Additionally, not as much coverage as I would like. I’ve tried a few different brands without a lot of success, so I guess there are no pros for me.

LOVE!! i love that it provides me enough coverage and at the same time controls my oils. cheap, too. a lot of company to choose from. they have samples so you don’t have to waste a lot of money for something you can’t use.

it is messy to use but i kinda practice using one wo it doesn’t bother me anymore.

angie Avatar

i love mineral makeup because its light on the skin yet provides good coverage. However its not travel friendly at all and it gets messy! it doesn’t have much staying power , slides off easily with the slightest contact or water.

most mainstream mineral makeup contains bismuth oxychloride which is a known comedogenic. that’s why most of you are breaking out. MAC and bare minerals both contain bismuth oxychloride.

I use Fyrinnae’s rice powder for oil control and Everyday Minerals for everything else.
Can’t live without their spring concealers and intensive foundations, I get good coverage for scars and dark circles and it just evens everything out (plus it looks very natural) I mix my moisturizer with their e/s for staying power and so that it looks more pigmented. The only downside is how messy mineral make up is.

Chica Avatar

Love: Everyday Minerals is my perfect foundation + Olive Fair is my exact colour match.
Love that it’s great for my sensitive skin.

Hate: How some companies suggest all their ingredients are natural to jump on the bandwagon when they aren’t.
How many companies use talc as a filler.

Roos Avatar

I love the color range, because really every color is available (or you can mix it yourself for the perfect match to your skin color).
I also love the coverage.. BUT:

I hate the fact that the mineral foundation wears off in like 2,5 hours. I prefer liquid to mineral!

I’m also annoyed because my skin is so sensitive that most brushes of real hair (and synthetic too) will give my skin all sorts of red and irritated spots.

So my final conclusion: liquid is my first choice 🙂

I think its a total scam to get people to pay more for cosmetics. I’m 41 years old, I’ve been using MAC for years and I’m going to stick with my Studio Fix. If it ain’t broke, why fix it.

I’m certainly not going to buy all new makeup and toss out all the makeup I have just because it isn’t mineral makeup. I do have 2 mineral blushes but they were $5 each and I can’t even tell the difference between them and my other blushes.

Yasmin Avatar

I love BareMinerals, never had any issues with breakouts, the only thing I don’t like is that it does melt off quickly but with re-application of the mineral veil throughout the day it stays fine. :]

Aly Avatar

I’ve tried soooooo hard to like mineral foundation. I have sensitive, dry, acne prone skin and my wishful side thought this was going to be THE answer as far as makeup goes. I think it’s finally time to admit that up close it makes my skin look dry with a white metalic like residue, feels strange to the touch, hides nothing, and creates some kind of a weird pin-like feeling; thought I was nuts but others have mentioned it too. So sad.

OMG, I am so glad I stumbled across this site. I’m 43 and have acne worse than my 14-year-old! I’ve been trying to figure it out and it has to be the mineral make-up. The acne started about a month ago…when I started using the minerals. Augh!!! This crap is going in the garbage.
