My Special Occasion Look: Red Lips

I don’t know why, but one of my go-to looks for a special occasion is red lips paired with a gold eyeshadow look. I didn’t have much time, so I only snapped a couple of photos of this look. I’m also still mad that Ore photographs so blah relative to how TA-DA it is in person.  Hope you’re having a beautiful Tuesday!

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Ore pure pigment on the entire lower lid to cover.  Then, apply Darkhorse eyeshadow into the crease and blend outwards and on outer third of the lid with the 226.  Diffuse the crease color by applying Virgin eyeshadow above to highlight the brow bone with the 217.  Apply #10L liner on the lower lash line and finish lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply #15 blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Dragon Rouge Allure Laque first, and then layer Exces Extrait de Gloss for a complementing lip.

Every time you use your Rouge Allure in Dragon, it makes me want to cry because I can’t afford it. :[ You look stunning in it.
It’s the most perfect, gorgeous red color for me. Plus it would be amazing to own something Chanel.

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I had a scare last night, because I couldn’t find it… but it was in my purse (which is odd, since I rarely carry any makeup in my bag), but I was like OMG THANK GOODNESS. I thought we’d have to detour to Nordstrom post-haste.

Put it on a wish list – maybe for your birthday, graduation gift, etc. 🙂

Gold eyes and red lips, they’re just beautiful on you. I do have a question about Dragon. I’m a NC 15, and I purchased Dragon. It looks red-purple on me, not the true red as it looks on you. I don’t know what to think about that. Does it make sense to you? Thanks, and Happy Birthday.

I know! I don’t get it. It’s more like magenta than red. I don’t think my natural lip color as too pigmented, but I’ll try your suggestions, thank you.

I’m an NC15 that turns into a NC20 in the summer and on me Dragon doesn’t look true red either. It doesn’t look red-purple as it does on you, it looks more like a bright, dark red (it’s not vampy at all). Of course, since I have very pigmented lips, which are naturally the colour of red wine, it makes sense that Dragon looks darker on my lips than it does on Christina’s. Lipsticks always look darker on my lips than they do on hers.
Having said that, unless there’s something wrong with your lipstick in particular, then it’s very likely it looks red-purple on you because of your natural lip colour.

Yep, today is my birthday! We went out to dinner last night to celebrate, since I have class until evening tonight. I didn’t like the idea of rushing home, rushing to get ready, and rushing to a restaurant, so I figured to do it a day early.

I know Dragon is unique, but do you have any recommendations for a substitute, perhaps for someone with a cooler skintone? I’m wearing a bright red party dress to an even in a couple of weeks, and I’m on the hunt for my own “special occasion” red lip look!

Other than blues, I love it when you wear gold e/s, especially with equally stunning red lips. I guess it might be because we have similar hair & skin coloring, but warm bronze/gold + red is my absolute favorite “special occasion” look, too. You look like Snow White’s brassier, sexier cousin!

WOW!!!! That is BEAUTIFUL!! I know you hear this a lot, but you have the most GORGEOUS lips ever, and you are blessed with a skin tone that looks good with reds!! I thought Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque is limited edition, with a collection that came out last year, but they still have it on the website chanel.com (along with all the other colors it came out with)do you know why? Did they make all the shades permanent? (There are 8 in all, I think you reviewed each and every one of them)

Gorgeous red! Love that colour on you. But it’s confirmed what I’d already suspected, bright reds made faces look ever-so-slightly pale/ashy. Are you using a lighter powder or foundation for this pic? I’m NC 40 and bright red lips make me look like my compact is a shade too light for me. Optical illusion?

As Christine’s pictures show, smokey brown/bronze-y eyes can go very well with red lips for the people who want to wear a strong eye makeup with strong lips. They did this kind of makeup on the catwalk last year and the year before that.

I you want to wear bright red lips, at least for evenings, without having to forgo eye makeup then brown/bronze/gold colors are the way to go.

I really love to sport this red color, somehow i bought red color lipsticks from Maybeline and Yves Saint Laurent but none seemed like the one in the above picture. Do you know any special brand/model which has matte look but same red color?

I love the lips! I have 2 questions!

1) Where can you get the Chanel lip products? Nordstroms doesn’t carry them online anymore!

2) How do you keep your red lips from bleeding. I have bleed issues everytime I wear red, but not with other colors!

See? Brown/bronzey smoky eyes can ALWAYS go with strong red lips. Look at Siouxsie Sioux, she’s been working the strong eye/strong (red) lip combo for most of her life.
