Last week I wrote I was taking a break. Seems I lied. That was all a lie. 🙂
HAUL:
Charlotte Tilbury air brushed powder arriving today. I’ve long been curious about this product, feel I could use something like it, so I caved.
MAC 135 powder brush and lip pencil in Spice.
HAUL APPALL: (An update)
Last week I was very excited to splurge and get four UD Vice lipsticks. The ratings and feedback here and elsewhere are great. What an utter epic FAIL for me.
I bought Rock Steady, EZ, Wonderland, and Whip. These are quite possibly the WORST lipsticks I have ever used. I am 50s, and I been around the block more than once with lipsticks of all strata — highest end, drug store, and everything in between.
The cream shades went patchy, and even with primer and liner, kinda made a mess. My lips were so dried out from Rock Steady, EZ, and Wonderland (all Cream formulas) that they actually hurt and burned. Hard to describe, but they also made my lips seem smaller and “shrunken” somehow, even with gloss. Weird. Whip is OK for layering, but on it’s own it’s a snore.
I’ve never had a worse experience with lipsticks, ranging from application to its intense drying properties. It wears pretty well, I will give it that. They’re all returned, and that is not something I have ever done with a lip product. I am in the vast minority, I know, but I really hated those lipsticks.
Maybe you will do better next week, Linda! 🙂
That is so weird to hear that the Creams dried out your lips so badly! I wonder if you are allergic or reacting to a particular ingredient they use?
An allergy is the only thing that makes sense, I’ve come to think. It even caused a change in texture. Has to be it.
It just sounds like such a severe reaction, and I can definitely see it not being as hydrating for EVERYONE, it is just really strange that it was horrifically drying on you to the point of real pain. 🙁
I’m so sorry and hope your lips heal up quickly!
That’s what I thought immediately. Allergies come on quite sneakily, then we avoid that ingredient and never find out whether that ingredient still bothers us. Compare, contrast, list, list, list, and check cosdna for classic irritants. That’s a start. If you can narrow down the suspect list, you can eliminate any product that contains them. I have compared/contrasted highly different products and found that elusive burning substance. It’s quite a rewarding thing to do while watching investigation discovery!
I had the same thing happen to my lips when i used the Charlotte tillbury lipsticks. Horrific reaction almost like a chemical burn all the way the outside of my lips. Weeks later it is finally clearing up. Too late to return those devil tubes so i had to throw them out. 4 of them……..sad sad sad day
Linda, the same thing happens when i use Bite lipsticks. I figured it out the last time I wore one. I think it’s an intolerance to one or more of the ingredients. That being said, I bought Rock Steady and Wonderland and didn’t care for them either. I also found them slightly drying. I also didn’t feel the shades were that “special”. Maybe it’s a batch issue.
Oh wow, really? I have that reaction with Bite lipsticks too. I’ve never heard of anyone else who has the same problem with them.
I’m sorry you had such a bad reaction to those lipsticks, Linda! Allergic reactions are the worst.
Nicole – wow, I haven’t either! I wonder what the ingredient is?! I gave away all of my Bite lippies which was pretty heartbreaking since I had so many I loved the shades.
I wish I knew! I need to run the ingredients against a couple of other products I’ve had the same reaction to (a Perricone M.D. face moisturizer and Hempz body lotion*). I’m sorry you had to do that. I bet! It’s so upsetting to have to give away products that you actually love.
*So all of this is looking up ingredients on cosDNA. I’ve already checked the Perricone MD product against the Hempz lotion, but the only thing they have in common that *might* be an issue is fragrance, which still makes no sense to me because I’ve used a million things with fragrance and had no problem. The only ingredient the Bite lipsticks have in common with the Perricone MD is coconut oil and the only ingredients they have in common with the Hempz lotion is shea butter and sunflower oil. All of which I’ve used in many different products with no reaction (and eaten, in the case of sunflower oil and coconut oil.
They all gave me the same reaction though, at different levels of severity: The Perricone MD moisturizer dried out two patches of skin on my face so badly that they flaked for months and left scars. The Hempz lotion dried my hands out so much that they cracked and bled, not just in between my fingers but also down the backs of my hands in places, and the Bite lipsticks made my lips feel like they were burning and dried them out a LOT but did not leave scars. They’re the only three products that have ever done that to me though. Sorry for the monster paragraphs. I’m kind of at a loss. Have you come across any products that have caused the same reactions for you as the Bite lipsticks?
I don’t think coconut oil is the issue for me. I actually have a Pacifica lip balm sitting next to me at my desk that I use all the time (it isn’t that great btw). The only other lip product I’ve had an issue with other than Bite is the Laura Geller ones. Basically the same things happened as with you – burning and drying. The Geller ones seemed to cause the effect much faster than the Bite ones. With respect to other cosmetic products I have issues with – I can’t use any Buxom or bareMinerals products (burning, drying, swelling) and can’t use any Sephora brand eye liners (swelling and stinging).
Haul: Nothing. Sephora has a VIB thing tomorrow so I plan to go pick up the BiTE mini set.
Weekend plans: Nothing special. Jazz festival tomorrow with my sister and some friends, my son is gone for most of the day at a bday party right after school so I’m thinking of going to look for a dress for my works annual Gala next Saturday or just treat myself to some much needed me time and see a movie.
Favorite place to read?: Doesn’t matter as long as I’m moving. I like to read when I’m on the bus to work, walking down the street or in the mall, really if the book is intense, I’ll read it anywhere.
Ooh, have fun at the event, Mo! 🙂
You must have great coordination! I do not think I could read and walk without getting into trouble, LOL!
LOL My second sense is great. I can walk and read and not bump into a single soul. It comes from my years of navigating through the Mall of America on break lol
I’m going to the Sephora thing tomorrow too. My list is ready! 4x points for stuff I’m going to get anyway!
Curious what you and Mo plan to get. I’m RSVP’d but haven’t slept well lately, so not sure I’m going to get up that early and go. The only thing in the preview email that caught my eye was the Drunk Elephant set, but I caved and bought a few things from SpaceNK and their gift bag (SpaceNK and Barney’s do the best sample bags) and Tom Ford just put out a new eye duo that is calling to me, so Nordstrom may win out in the end. I may hold off on Sephora until next month’s sale.
Oh yay – have fun at the Sephora event. I had wanted to go but the closest store to me participating is 1 1/2 hours away. I’m not really wanting to get up that early to be at the opening at 8 🙂 Anyway, will love to hear about all your goodies after! I think you get a deluxe sample bag too.
YES I love sample bags! I’m only going for ONE thing because I’m on a budget but who knows maybe I’ll pick up something else too.
I’m a VIB Rouge and this is the first I’m hearing about this event! What the heck! Did info come in an email or the mail?
Yes, I got my invite in an email in late August.
Same here, got an email on the 31st. Registration was wonky for 24 hours or so. Things are up online if you want to check out. You’ll need to log in first though.

Favorite place to read?: Either in bed or on the recliner in my bedroom. If I try to read anywhere else my cats feel the need to try to read my book too!
How do you like the hairbrush? Was it worth it? 😉
I am loving it. I bought the Handy Brush. It’s a nice size and is all boar bristle. They claim no boars are actually hurt in obtaining the bristles btw. Anyway, I had previously bought brushes claiming to be “like” the Mason Pearson – they weren’t even close to this. I have thin, fine, colored, shoulder length hair (that is slightly wavy when air-dried). When I use this brush it creates no static or frizz. It seems to smooth the cuticles of the hair. Somehow it’s also gentle enough that it doesn’t feel harsh on the scalp; in fact it feels like a light massage. It’s lighter in weight than a typical brush of the same size so there’s no hand or wrist fatigue in using it. The brush comes with the cleaning brush with directions as to how to properly care for and clean the brush. I already had a Mason Pearson cleaning brush as I had bought one to use for washing my brushes some time ago – still nice to have a back-up. So it comes to – was it worth spending $172.50 for a brush? Maybe. It’s a luxury. It makes hair brushing “an experience” instead of a chore. For me, I’m not sorry I bought it; it’s an indulgence.
Do report back on the brush! I’ve always wanted one too.
Linda – see my response to Christine above. 🙂
Michele, let me know how you like that Honest Falling For You Palette. Long story, but I couldn’t make to Ulta last weekend to check it out.
Haul: Mary Kay – foundation primer, brow definer pencil, lash love waterproof mascara. ColourPop – Flower Shop, Dare, and Trois shadows, Flitter and Toolips liquid lipsticks. I also discovered I had an Amazon giftcard I hadn’t used yet so I picked up the Star Trek 50th anniversary Uhura Barbie.
oops hit post too early 🙂
Weekend plans: contractors in the house today fixing the water damage in our master bedroom and garage. Might have a few people come by to look at the big items we’re trying to sell before we move.
Favorite place to read: my spot on the sofa, or on the patio if the weather is nice.
Toolips! That name is so cute.
Always great to find gift cards! Awesome on the Barbie! I’m behind on getting all the 50th Anniversary swag. I did get one sheet of the stamps framed and hung in my home office though. Did your come yet?
There’s sooooo much 50th anniversary stuff I’m trying to be really picky about what I buy 🙂
I got my stamps in person, so I have them in a drawer until I finish making the frames. I’m going to hand-paint them.
Haul: A few things from UD Razor Sharp liner in Dark Force. Sadly does nothing for me. UD Lipsticks Pallor, UV-B and Asphyxia. I purchased as layering lipsticks. Made a quick run at them this morning and they didn’t play well on top of my CP lippie stix. Asphyxia is pretty enough and flattering on it’s own. It is definitely the best purchase of the lot for me. I need to experiment with the other two. The liner is a dud.
Weekend plans: Get out and walk. The dogs and I desperately need it. The humidity has been overbearing this week and I am in no shape to tolerate heat or sun on my skin right now. I know peeps love summer, but I don’t and I am so over it Thankfully, temperature drop to more seasonal coming this Sunday. Win!
Favorite place to read?: Agree, Bed! But… confession.. I love reading in the bath, but it doesn’t always work out so well. ?
Mellan! You have looks AND charm 😀
Sorry to hear about the liner! What didn’t you like about it? 🙁
Enjoy your time outdoors today!!
Thanks Christine 🙂 Dark Force looked so pretty in your swatches, I thought it would be one of those bronzey colours like MAC powersurge, Sephora Flirting Game, Chanel stylo in Agape, which make my eyes pop. This one totally doesn’t. 🙁
Ahhh, gotcha! Bummer 🙁
Asphyxia is so pretty! It’s the only Vintage color I really liked, but I really don’t wear lipstick enough to buy it. It’s too bad they didn’t release the same lineup as glosses as well, I would have been game 🙂
Julia, you could always take a pot and mix Asphyxia with clear gloss and make your own custom gloss 😉
UD Vice formula has a bit of a balmy waxy feel to it, I find. I’m not all that keen on it actually, but buy the formula more for the colour variety and uniqueness. It is pretty and would look great on you, Julia 🙂
Wwendy, where did you buy your UD Vintage lippies from? I don’t see on their website or at Sephora.
Urban Decay introduced a Canada website a number of months ago! http://www.urbandecay.ca
Go girl!
Wow, I can’t believe the Canadians actually got something first before us! Usually it’s the other way around, must be nice 🙂 I’m signed up for the UD emails, and I’ve been stalking their site too
LOL Katherine.. Oh yeah! I’m doing a little victory dance..
I get so few opportunities. Indulge me.
I most definitely don’t need them, but I’m excited to see your reviews on the Becca Bronzed Amber and the Hourglass palette!
Haul: Ordered some Ultra Metallic Liquid Lipsticks and Lip Glosses from Colourpop, but I haven’t even gotten a shipment notification yet so I guess that’ll be a next week haul.
Weekend plans: Looking at bathtubs and master bath layouts online until my eyeballs fall out. House projects are hard!!
Favorite place to read?: Usually bed, every once in a while the couch – I haven’t been reading much lately 🙁
Hopefully you get your ColourPop goodies soon! 🙂
*Haul – Estee Lauder Edit Scarlet Eclipse (thanks for the tip Michele!) I’ve only swatched on my hands but the cream shadow is a stunning, beautiful red, then there’s loose metallic gold pigment that can be put on top, will be perfect for fall/winter/holidays. From Beauty.com – 25% off Vincent Longo Cheek/ Lip Gel Stain in DolceAqua – this is suppose to be a pearly violet, but is a total bust. I’m not sure if it’s a dud to begin with or the product went bad. It has strong herbal/chemical smell ( my other ones have a vanilla scent), the color on the cheeks is not even close to violet (looks kind of red), and there’s barely any color on the lips, mostly a sheer opal sheen with a tiniest bit of violet. Unfortunately, I bought it after Sept 1, so they won’t accept returns anymore, so $14 down the drain. Might try to get credit/exchange for another product while they are still around. I also have an OCC lip tar (Strange and Unusual) and lip tar pencil (Lydia) coming today from them, so hoping those are ok.
*Weekend – VIB Rouge event at local Sephora JCPenney – will get a sneak peek/swatches of new holiday goodies!
*Favorite place to read – I read news and blogs, so in front on the computer
I rarely hear anything about Vincent Longo products (good or bad), but sad to hear that that one was a bust!
Wow what a shame with the Longo product. It does make me hesitant to purchase from them again. I had logged in earlier today, ironically, and put several things in my cart and even more ironically Strange and Unusual was one of them! I also put in the NSFW Lip Tar (since I bought the same shade in the pencil from Birchbox), and the In Your Face Red Carpet Kit. Please let me know if your next order comes in good condition – I’m going to hold off on buying my cart.
Have fun at the Sephora Event! Please update on your thoughts after you’ve had a chance to check out the new releases.
I’ve tried a few Vincent Longo products from other retailers before (their cheek/lip stain and a face powder) and the products were ok, not spectacular, but decent. My other Vincent Long cheek/lip stains have decent pigment and a nice vanilla scent, but this violet one from Beauty.com smells horrible and has almost no color! I got OCC Strange & Unusual Lip Tar today from them, and I don’t think it’s the freshest batch. I have other lip tars that are 2 years old, and they still have a fresh mint taste, but this one smells like it’s not that fresh. It hasn’t gone bad yet, but it’s not going to last that long. I have a feeling Beauty.com basically emptied out their warehouses, found a bunch of old or expired products and unloaded it during the 25% off sale, so buyer beware. I think you will like Strange & Unusual-it’s a pinky purple w/ metallic finish, but you can tone down the metallic with a lip pencil. The OCC Lip Pencil is fine, but I have lip pencils that are probably 10-15 years old, and those never seem to go bad. If I were you, I would stay away from anything that might easily go bad ( like cream or liquid products) or anything that might break easily, since they’re not accepting returns anymore. And yes, I will update you on my Sephora holiday sneak peeks, can’t wait to see them!
I don’t think the deal is good enough to chance a product with a shortened shelf life. Thanks for the warning! I can get the OCC products from Birchbox (and they give you $5 on every $50 you spend plus there’s Ebates cash back) or from Beautylish if Birchbox doesn’t have the shade I want. Although, I don’t see Strange and Unusual on either site (maybe I missed it, will look again later).
Agree! No more orders for Beauty.com for me. Michele, I just got back from the Sephora VIB appreciation event and posted my thoughts on the new products in the Sephora Beauty Insider Appreciation Week post for 9/10/16. It’s pretty long
Ok, I give. I have no idea how to find the post. I went to the Sephora site and went to Beauty Talk. I did a search but there’s nothing coming up. How can I find it?
LMAO – I’m an idiot – you meant on Christine’s site! Wow, I have no valid excuse…
Michele, good news! I called Beauty.com and they agreed right away to refund me for the products that went bad/aren’t too fresh, and emailed me a free return label too to ship the products back. The customer service rep was very nice. The credit is suppose to show up on my credit card in a few days. So fingers crossed…..
Oh wow, that’s amazing! Although honestly it wouldn’t make sense if a retailer could sell products as new if they had begun to turn. I suspect you’d probably be able to fight the charge on your credit card. At least you won’t be out $ for anything. YAY!
That VIB event sounds fun! You’ll ave to let us know what stands out!
The VIB Rouge event is Saturday morning 10 AM -12 Noon PST, so I will definitely report back to everyone afterwards!
Lucky you – it starts at 8am here in Virginia!
Yeah, the other Sephora stores in my area all start at 8AM, except for the one inside JCPenny, which starts at 10 AM and is only 5 minutes from my house, so I picked that one. It’s of course much smaller than a regular Sephora store, but they usually pack the merchandise in there, so I’m hoping it has most (if not all) of the new products.
Wow, that’s so weird. I wasn’t going bc the site said my local Sephora (in JC Penney) wasn’t participating. I wonder if the site was incorrect? Either way, too late now to go since I missed registration. Would have been something fun to do this morning. Have fun!
Julia, I just got back from the Sephora VIB appreciation event and posted my thoughts on the new products in the Sephora Beauty Insider Appreciation Week post for 9/10/16. It’s pretty long
Haul: MAC Trip the Light Fantastic powder in Highly Illogical…kinda disappointed that it doesn’t say Star Trek anywhere on the packaging but omg this powder is gorgeous! got a few Korean face masks from The Face Shop brand, my friend got me these from koreatown in LA 🙂
Weekend Plans: nothing really, gonna try to organize things around the house and enjoy the weekend
Favorite place to read? prob the couch, it’s my dream to own a house with a reading nook area though
The finish on the Trip the Light powders is lovely!
Haul: My Nars fall beauty haul has begun: I got Nars Contour Blush in Melina (my favorite piece so far); Velvet Matte Lip Pencils in Infatuated Red (just beautiful on its own, and I really love it with Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Zealot, topped with a hint of red gloss) and Consuming Red; Dual Intensity Shadows in Arcturus, Antares, and Rigel; Velvet Eyeliners in Darklight and Kaliste; and Velvet Lip Glide in La Main Bleue. I have discovered that by using those tiny Beauty Blenders to apply the shadow, I get excellent color payoff from the Dual Intensity shadows. As an update, my Narsissist Dual Intensity Blush Palette gotten softer and more pigmented with use, as I suspected it might, and I now use it several times a week, which officially makes this my most-used palette in my stash. I love it!
I opened a credit account with Ulta this week. I decided to take advantage of my 20% coupon and my accumulated points. I was able to take home the Too Faced Totally Cute Palette (I know it got poor ratings but after multiple attempts to recreate Christine’s stunning eye look, I decided to put myself out of my misery and just buy the palette), Lorac Color Source blushes in Technicolor and Aura (so pretty on my medium warm skin tone), and the Becca Youthful Glow Kit (full size Backlight Priming Filter, full size Undereye Brightening Correcter, travel size Luminous Blush in Snapdragon, and travel size Shimmering Skin Perfecter Liquid in Opal). Between discounts, points, and 20% off, I left the store having only spent $23!
Weekend plans: My weekend officially starts today, as I took the day off work. Already I have started my day by sleeping in late. After I finish responding to the Friday Free Haul post, I will spend some time reading my newest book purchase, To the Bright Edge of the World by Eowyn Ivey. (I am halfway through and so far I like it.) Later my husband I will begin watching the third season of the excellent series The Americans.
Favorite place to read: I read every night in the dual recliner next to my bed. It is one of my favorite places to be!
My husband always wanted a recliner, so when we moved to the new house, he got one, and it’s soooo comfy!
Happy that your blush palette has gotten better for you but wish it didn’t need breaking in, lol!
Oh, Christine, you need a DUAL recliner so you can snuggle up next to each other! I wouldn’t sit in this one my husband wasn’t right next to me❤️
LOL!
Funny story, but since Mayflower (moving company) was so terrible, I ended up getting full value of my sofas (they damaged one with a small tear in the back that couldn’t be fixed economically – you’d have to reupholster both love seat and sofa). I had to fight for about eight months, of course, but it worked out in the end. I always thought La-z-boy was expensive (and it can be), and my parents have had theirs FOREVER so I know they’re good and like them, but I thought, “let’s go find out what it costs,” because in order to get full value, Mayflower was going to take my sofa set. So, to shorten that story up, we were able to get brand new, La-z-boy sofa and love seat (which recline) for the same price as my last set 😀
Our bedside dual recliner is from Lay-z-Boy too! We love it so much that last month we purchased a couch, a second dual recliner/love seat, and a single recliner for our living room.
Nice! 🙂 My hubby has his rocking recliner, and then we have the loveseat/sofa all in the living room! I was actually really floored by how it wasn’t more expensive than the sofa set I had previously (Crate & Barrel, during one of their 15% off events).
Really great haul! Oh my gosh, isn’t the Ulta credit card deal amazing? Then we get extra points at the end of the month when our statement closes! I also really appreciate the tip about using the mini blenders for the eyeshadow. I’m going to try that next time I pull out a NARS shadow. How are you liking the lip glide?
The jury is still out on the lip glide. I struggle with some formulas feathering on me, and I’m not quite sure yet if this formula is going to stay put. I am trying to test it today but I have a bad habit of chewing on my lips when I’m reading and I keep chewing it off. I will be able to give it a better test run on Monday when I’m back at work. I can already tell you that I prefer a heavier lipstick over a lightweight formula like this. I like a lipstick with substance, strong pigment, and topped with just a touch of thick gloss for moisture, so a lightweight gloss/lipstick hybrid is unlikely to make it to the top of my list. But I never know for sure until I try a product and I was in the mood to try something new. Time will tell.
How do you apply your Nars dual intensity shadows, Michelle?
Hmmmm – might hold off on the Lip Glide, thanks! For the dual intensity I apply with damp or dry (depending on mood) with either my Wayne Goss or Sigma brushes. The application is ok but I have always felt that I should be getting better impact with the shadows.
Michelle, the Nars lip glide is going back. It looks beautiful right out of the tube and has minimal feathering, but it rapidly loses its intensity and the faded color is just blah.
Tammy, oh no! I’m sorry it didn’t work out but thanks for the heads-up! There’s so many potentially good releases there’s no sense in buying/keeping a product that isn’t great.
Oh interesting! I have a couple of those tiny Beauty Blenders, will give it a try.
I use the micro mini beauty blenders with my Colourpop shadows too, I really like how they increase the pigmentation of the colors and glitters. I dampen them and spray them with any fix spray I have on hand, which probably helps with fallout too.
LOVE the Americans too Tammy!
Such a good show!
Nice Ulta haul! I always feel so triumphant when I stack deals like that ?
Have you tried the Becca Undereye Brightener yet? I’ve always been curious about it, but the reviews I’ve seen are very mixed- I’d love to hear your take on it! My dark circles are my nemesis, ha.
Julia, I cannot speak to dark circles as I do not have them. I have only used the product once and I didn’t feel compelled to use it the next day. But then again, I don’t use anything around my eyes other than a moisturizer and a hint of my foundation, so this would be an additional step for me.
Haul: nothing (I’m on a “no buy” until those newer Buxom eyeshadow colours finally arrive in-store)
Weekend plans: In Feb., we went to a wedding in India. The bride’s father is in Canada and visiting the groom’s parents (my best friends…oh, this sounds complicated) who are having a party tomorrow night to welcome him and to serve as a reunion of all who went to India. I am SO looking forward to seeing P again and getting to talk with him away from the business and hub-bub of the wedding.
Favourite place to read: the sofa in my family room but I’m finding it harder and harder to stay awake when I sit down to read, which is just one reason I absolutely love audio books.
How fun to see your friends again 🙂
HAUL: I’ve had an unlucky week, haha. I ordered some Kiehl’s ultra facial cream from Nordstrom and received an empty box. My order from theBalm flash sale hasn’t arrived and the tracking number they gave me is not valid!
WEEKEND: My tour of fall country fairs begins.
FAVORITE PLACE TO READ: Bed, with a nice candle going.
Empty box! Oh no!! Hopefully Nordstrom took care of you!
Yeah, it was fine. Refunded me no questions and I ordered it again. They both (the Kiehl’s cream and theBalm goodies) just arrived on my desk so all is good on Friday :). theBalm palettes are huge! So much eyeshadow in each pan.
That’s what I like to hear 🙂 Nordstrom is great to me, but I like to hear they’re great to others.
And yay! theBalm goodies!
Touring fall country fairs sounds fun!
I hope you have a great time going to fall country fairs! That sounds like so much fun.
Haul: Nothing. Saving for my vacation next month.
Plans: Man, it’s already the weekend again! I plan to do a lot of reading, I have a lot of stuff I want to read before my vacation. (I have a couple history books so I understand my destination better, and also I plan to read a couple books that I want to lend my friend that I’m traveling with.)
Fave place to read: Right now, my backyard! The weather has been really nice. I just slather on some sunblock, put on a hat, and park myself outside.
Where are you hoping to vacation, Thirteen?
Haul: Ole Henriksen Empower Me facial moisturizer, bareMinerals powder foundation in Golden Medium, Sephora Contour Inner Rim Gel Eyeliner in Wide Eyed, plus samples of Too Faced Better than Sex mascara, Phyto hair cream, Atelier Cologne Mandarin Glaciale, Tocca Florence, and I got Nuxe Crème Fraiche Light cream on Ebay for a reduced price.
Weekend plans: relaxing and hopefully my neighbor will let me use her oven to bake something (ours isn’t working).
Favorite place to read?: The Cloisters Museum, in the Cuxa Cloister section near the water fountain and gardens. I especially like reading medieval topic books while there because it makes me feel like I went back in time (I’m such a nerd. Lol).
Hey, a good setting is sometimes all you need! It must be a really cool place if it gives you that sense of being back in time 🙂
I can’t leave a link here, but if you look on my blog for my Self Care Sessions posts, the first post shows photos from the place. 🙂
Oh sorry, I think it might be the first or second Current Favorites post.
Haul: I picked up the new Essence eyeshadow palettes last week and the ABH Moonchild Glow kit in a swap.
Weekend plans: errr….. not sure. probably more job hunting and sewing.
Favorite place to read?: Bed as well.
How are the Essence eyeshadows?
Good luck on the humb hunt!
Really good! They are putting Wet n Wild to shame right now.
Any palette(s) you would recommend?
I can honestly say all of them but I feel like you could skip Vintage out of the 4 I was able to get because the shades are a little too close to one and another it doesn’t feel like a 8 shade palette more like a 6 shade one.
Nudes is more of your matte palette, Bronze is your warm one and Roses is your blush tones.
Awesome, thank you. I just bought a rose palette (Catrice) on sale this morning from Ulta online. I think I’ll search out the nudes one this weekend. Always great to get a good performing palette on the cheap!
Haul: BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel palette, Rimmel Brow This Way in Dark Brown, Rimmel #55 My Nude lipstick
Weekend plans: schoolwork, housework
Favorite place to read?: on a comfy couch, I think!
I’ve heard great things about the Carli Bybel palette!
Yeah it’s pretty decent. I wish there were more matte shades and differentiation between shadow/highlighter colors. I understand why the the shades were selected, but it almost seems redundant to have a bronzy eyeshadow and highlighter when they could have been used interchangeably. I’ve been using it almost everyday this past week and have quite enjoyed it.
Haul: Real Techniques Bold Metals eyeshadow brushes, Pixi Petal Ice Lip Lift Max, SK hairbrush, NYX brow products, some samples from sephora and nordies.
Weekend Plans: Hopefully, sushi and a trip to target. Grocery shopping and then a game with friends on Sunday morning.
Favorite place to read: I would like a chaise or something, but for now bed.
Sounds like a fun weekend, Erin! Hope you have a blast 🙂
Mellan looks so cute with his bow tie on!
Haul: Last week — from the MUSE Beaty Pro sale: the ESUM 14-pc pro brush set plus the 9-pc detailing brush set, both for $229: I am really impressed with how well these brushes work. This was a great deal, the brushes are worth much more than an average of $10/each.
This week I decided to try some products from Karity.com: I ordered 12 eyeshadows (4 neutral mattes and 8 shimmery shades — 2 silver/grays, 2 blues, 3 greens) and a magnetic palette for $63.25; they arrived yesterday, and the arm swatches are pigmented and beautiful — will start testing the shadows on my eyes soon. I also ordered three eye brushes to try; they seem OK, but not special.
This week at Sephora: I had an Hourglass attack and decided to try both the light correcting primer and the Ambient Lighting Powder in Mood Light, in hopes that they might correct the too-yellowness of virtually every foundation I try, plus I decided to try the Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint in Shell to see if my skin can tolerate a little octinoxate and octisalate with my titanium dioxide, and to try the lip oil. For color I liked the new MUFE lipstick in C502, Taupe Violet, but ithough it was a little bit light for me — then I tried layering it over NARS Velvet Mat lip pencils in Damned and Train Bleu, and fell in love, and got all three to make cool lip colors for fall.
Paula’s Choice 15% off sale: I decided to try the new niacinamide booster, and repurchased the Clear Anti-Redness exfoliating solution 2% salicylic acid (helps keep my pores clear and rosacea redness and sebhorreic dermatitis flakiness under control), and the Clinical Ultra-Rich moisturizer (love that as a night cream over my serums).
Weekend plans: hopefully try a new recipe or two and keep on with re-organizing my room; a chore weekend when I’m not relaxing — it’s too hot here to get too ambitious right now.
Favorite place to read: every place I can manage it! I love to read in bed, where I can listen to music and look out the window from time to time. I also love to read outdoors (on our balcony, or on the college campus across the street) and on the train.
Which are your favorite ESUM brushes, Fran? Any good eye brushes?
Hi Fran,
For the foundation issue, I suggest testing color correcting products in lavender to find the one you like best. That is what will likely resolve the “too yellowness” of foundations. I have that same problem, and I have not found a foundation on its own that does not present that problem for me too.
I had a Chanel lavender powder in the 80s/early 90s that did the trick, then it was gone and I missed it for decades. Never did find anything like it until the Cover Fx color correcting stick in lavender. I like that one a lot, and it completely neutralizes the yellow problem for me. Finally. There are a bunch out there to test. But lavender is the way to go, not pink. 🙂
Hope it works for you. Mood light works really well for me in reducing sallowness. I only have to dust a bit on the chubbiest part of my cheeks, chin to smack down that overall yellow look I can get from foundations that do not match my greener olive tones.
Be careful of those octis. mood is basically the only hg I like. But the lavender color corrector mentioned below could be better. Mood primer lightens what remains of my tan. Nice Paula mini haul. Trying some Cosrx in certain slots. When memebox gets here. I doubt that much Paula will be replaced. Most of what I ordered were add ons, like sachharomyces and snail. Can’t live without the resist (watery) bha and the resist long name tm.
I had to say goodbye to my beloved dog about two weeks ago, and it’s still really hard. I adopted her in the UK going on ten years ago, and she moved with me back to the US. She was my rock and my constant, shining light.
You cuddle that handsome Mellan fellow an extra lot, now, y’hear?
I am so deeply sorry for your loss, Tessa! Losing a pet is truly like losing a family member, and they are often with us for such a short time 🙁
You can be sure I will give him some extra love, and if he could e-cuddle, he would!
Thank you so much, Christine.
So sorry for your loss, Tessa?
Thank you, Tammy. She was a real peach.
I’m so sorry for your loss 🙁 . I lost my cat last year, she was 17 and always by my side. It’s so hard to let them go.
Thank you for saying. I’m self conscious about her having been “just a dog” — but the grief is real.
Oh dear. I am so sorry for your loss, Tessa. Our pets literally become our fur-children, so the loss hits hard and breaks our hearts in two, I know. ?
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Very sorry about your loss 🙁 I still miss our family dog.
Tessa I’m so sorry to hear about your pup. Thank you for giving her such a wonderful life in a loving home for so long. Praying for you!
Oh no Tessa. That’s heartbreaking. I’ve had many animals in my lifetime and will definitely have more, but it never gets any easier to say goodbye.
Tessa, I am really sorry to hear about your loss – pets are such a big and important part of our lives/ hearts!
Having lost 3 dogs in 18 mos and having no family, I really can understand. My current dog is my world, as I have no one. Everything said about a dog’s love is true. And it’s so hard with any passing to get beyond the loss and sadness to have mostly fond/good memories. So sorry.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Tessa.
Aww sorry to hear that Tessa. May you be comforted by all the happy memories you shared with your beloved dog.I lost my Golden Retriever about 5 years ago to cancer. We still love and miss him dearly.
So sorry for your loss.
It’s never “just a dog” (or cat or any other animal), if someone says that they’ve never loved and been loved back by an animal.
I’m sorry to hear about your dog. 🙁 It’s so hard to lose the fur babies.
Thank you all so much. It really does mean a lot. She was a Rottweiler/Labrador mix, and was sweet and kind and obedient every single day of her life, including the last one. Y’all take care of your loyal friends!
♡
LOL omg that photo. You must have the world’s cutest collection of bow ties for Mellan.
Haul: Barneys is having their fall sample GWP thing and I love their sample bags so I ended up getting pulled in. I couldn’t buy the Chantecaille Lion Pride palette and have that count towards the GWP, which was annoying. I ended up getting a Bobbi Brown cream shadow stick in Rich Caviar, an Armani Eyes to Kill eyeshadow quad*, byTerry Sun Designer Palette in Tan and Flash Cruise and Givenchy Beauty Rouge Interdit Satin Lipstick in Secret Pink. I kind of took the event as an excuse to try a few HE brands I haven’t tried before. I mean, aside from Bobbie Brown, I really haven’t tried anything from the others except for the odd mascara, so I’m really excited to get them in. I’ve been wanting to try a byTerry blush for ages. I actually liked the Light and Tan Vibes one better, but the swatches looked so similar to a lot of what I have already.
(I don’t even know what it’s called-on the Barneys site it’s just called Grey, which I know isn’t right. I’m pretty sure it’s either Terra Sienna or Boudoir, but when I was researching it from the photo a blog had the one I chose listed as Terra Sienna multiple times, while the GA site had it listed as Boudoir. Whatever I guess, it’s grayish.)
Weekend plans: More moving. Ughhhhhhhh.
Favorite place to read: In the bath, actually.
Oh, the Chantecaille palette didn’t count? Booooo!! I think I was going to grab that at either a Saks or Neiman promotion–I want to say Saks–but it was only on pre-order so it didn’t count. I think Neiman Marcus lets pre-order values count for theirs.
I know, right? I have no idea why it didn’t. I hate it when stores don’t count pre-orders too. That’s good to know! I honestly don’t shop at Saks at all because their site constantly malfunctions for me, but I do order every now and then from Neiman Marcus.
That Chantecaille palette looks so beautiful (but then all their palettes do!) I’m curious to hear what you think about the Givenchy lipstick. They released a few shades (including the pink you got) that I was interested in. Hope your moving goes well.
It really does! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I agree. Their palettes all look gorgeous. I’ll be sure to update! I should be getting it in tomorrow.
Thank you! It’s really not so bad. I’m not going to keep a lot of the furniture that I have. My taste has changed so much since I bought it that I want to start over. It’s all of the little things that are driving me up the wall, lol.
Hi, Michele! I got the lipstick in today. I’ve only had a chance to wear it once, so I can only give you a few details, but I really love it so far. I think the most impressive thing about it (to me) is the color. Light pink is really difficult for me to pull off just because it often looks too nude, but this is a true enough pink that it doesn’t go that way. Sephora seems to have it listed as a muted coral, which, I guess? I asked my mom just a bit ago and she agreed that it looks like a muted coral, so I’m probably outvoted on that one. I feel like when I applied it earlier and looked at it in daylight it seemed more like a true, soft pink, but looking at it now in artificial light it does look more coral. I love that it seems like a comfortable everyday color that I could just throw on, but for me it’s not a color that would be “ugh, whatever, I just need to wear something”. It still looks special.
It has a shimmer shift to it for sure, but it seems to register as simply reflective when you’re not looking up close. It’s definitely not moisturizing, but it’s not super drying either. I don’t feel the need for lip balm when I’m wearing it. I think the biggest flaw is that it does settle into my lip lines. Not severely, like a dry liquid lipstick, but just enough that I can definitely see the texture of my lips from a distance. Holding a compact at arm’s length from my face I can still see my lip lines in the mirror. It applies really nicely though. No tugging at all. I don’t think it’s ever going to be fully opaque, but it does get close. It goes on evenly. Maximum opacity is at about three layers, although one layer still puts down obvious color.
I can’t speak to wear time, but I’m guessing it’ll be like any other standard lipstick-I really don’t see long wear coming from the texture. I hope I gave you some useful information! Let me know if there’s anything else you want to know!
Thank you, very helpful! I think it rules out Secret Pink for me as I don’t need a lippie that pulls coral; not great for my coloring (although I’m sure it’s stunning on you!) I might try Rose Mutin (cold nude pink) or Violine Troublant (slightly mauve nude). I’m tempted to get the Grenat Envoutant (raspberry) but I think I’d like to try a more neutral shade first. I don’t think they’re supposed to be opaque since the coverage is described as medium. I feel like I need to see how close they ride to sheer on me before I invest in more than 1. Thanks again!
You’re welcome! I’m sorry Secret Pink isn’t the color you were looking for. Thank you! Those all sound really beautiful. Oh ok, I wasn’t sure about the opacity. I didn’t do too much research about the lipstick itself before I bought it; it was definitely an impulse purchase. I hope whichever one you pick up works well for you! You’re welcome!
I wanted to respond to you here about the allergy thing, since I can’t reply above:
Yeah, coconut oil is so ubiquitous in makeup products that I feel like if that was causing the allergy it would be pretty apparent (sorry the lip balm is no good-Pacifica can be really hit or miss in my experience). I’m sorry you’ve had that reaction with the Laura Geller lipsticks, as well as the other products you’ve mentioned. I kind of wish I could say that I had an adverse reaction to any of them, because then at least it would seem a bit more uniform. Honestly, it makes me a little uncomfortable knowing that it’s so difficult to pinpoint what the ingredient is. I mean, if I react to something I expect to be able to locate which ingredient is making me react and to have the same thing happen with other products that have that ingredient. I hope you’re able to find out which ingredient is causing those reactions for you!
The Save the Lions palette should count – new releases always counted in the past and I don’t think there are any restrictions. I’d call if you want to snag it for what you’re spending; though I do have the Armani quad you mention and it’s lovely too!
Oh ok, I didn’t know that. I definitely should have called. I just assumed that it was under some sort of restriction, because when I put it in my cart I still had to put an additional $200 worth of products in there to get the GWP. When I tried to take the extra amount out and just have the palette plus $120 worth of products in my cart the GWP went away. I wonder if it was a malfunction or if they’ve added restrictions. I’m getting the products in tomorrow, so too late to call now, but I’m definitely happy with what I got. I’ve wanted to try all of those brands for a while now. I’ll just have to pick up that palette some other time (soon). I saw in another thread that you had picked the Save the Lions palette up-have you had a chance to use it yet?
I’m glad to hear you like the Armani quad! All of the reviews I’ve seen about their eyeshadow have been really positive.
Well that definitely stinks – I hope it’s not a new or permanent restriction. The beauty bags are really top notch though, so you’ll have a lot of new items to try and a palette you’re excited about
I have played around with the Lions palette and blush and I’m very happy with how they both look. I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m not a huge blush user – I wear the same one pretty much every day. Pride is going into my regular rotation – it’s a soft pink-peach color. Very pretty. The shadow colors are gorgeous and different from the permanent Chantecaille line-up. I freely admit I bought a second one because of the shades. The only shade that’s slightly underperforming on first swatch is Stone (taupey/grey). It needs to be built up, but once you do the color is lovely. I haven’t found this with Chantecaille before, but it doesn’t bother me. This palette will definitely be traveling with me on business trips. It’s going to be a nice go with everything palette for me.
I hope not too. They are! I got mine today and it had a lot of amazing products in it.
That’s great to hear! That really says a lot if the blush is going into your regular rotation. That says a lot too, for the palette. (On a different note, isn’t it a shame that these palettes are limited edition?) Yeah, that kind of thing doesn’t bother me either. I’m glad it works so well for you! Now I want it even more!
I’m both happy and sad to enable! It is unfortunate they’re limited editions. I had two face powders from them years ago the fell and shattered. I’m still upset about losing them – they were so pretty. That is the only thing I’ll warn you and others of – Chantecaille is truly French milled, so they don’t take a beating if they fall from a decent height. So sad!
Glad you’re enjoying your goodies!
Hello, Lea! I can’t reply to your last comment down below, so I guess I’ll have to answer here lol. I’m so sorry your face powders shattered! Yeah, I would be too. It really is so upsetting when that happens. Thank you for letting me know that! Since I’ve been moving lately and will be moving again at least before spring I’ve been really anxious about things breaking in transport or when I’m getting them out of boxes, etc. I’ll remember to be extra careful with the palette when I get it.
Thank you!
Loved Barney’s and boy, could they see me coming. But they closed our suburban store; I don’t often get to town, and really dislike their website, unless it’s overhauled. Leaving out Barney’s is probably a good thing for me, but their goody bags are awesome, rival Neiman’s. That Chantecaille is gorgeous, and they do support causes. I don’t remember exclusions like that. But you did score some marvelous things.
Lol! I’ve never been to an actual Barney’s store, but I do love to shop from them. Their free shipping is fantastic. I’m sorry they closed your store. Somehow I doubt that their website has been overhauled. It’s a pain to use. The thing I don’t get is why so many of the products don’t have the right name with them. Like with the Armani quads, a few of them had the proper name of the quad when you clicked on it, but a few of them were just “GREY”, “BROWN”, etc. The site has done that for as long as I’ve shopped from them, but it doesn’t get less annoying. Seriously, I don’t know why I didn’t just call and tell them exactly what I wanted. They are! Their sample bags are my favorite by far. I agree. It looks like such a pretty palette. Everyone keeps saying that-I really wonder why it didn’t count. Thank you!
I have the Tan and Flash Cruise and I love it, my favourite is the pink coral shade! It’s been brilliant this summer, I use my RT setting brush to apply lightly though because it’s so pigmented. Interesting you prefer the lighter palette, I’m pale skinned and auburn haired.
That is such a gorgeous shade! Oh wow, I bet. I noticed that. I used it lightly today-the top blush shade, and the top two shades from the bronze/highlight side. It’s really nice. I’m glad to hear it works for you since it sounds like we have similar coloring! (My natural hair is actually blonde though-I’m growing out some red/brown hair dye at the moment.) Yeah, for me it’s the combination of the redness in my cheeks and the paleness of my skin that make me feel shy about using brighter blushes. If I don’t cover the redness enough they can just enhance what’s already there and if I do it’s sooo easy to go overboard with blush and end up looking like I don’t have a good mirror in my house, lol. I’m a bit of a blush fiend so I’m trying to get myself to use brighter colors and make it a “look”, but it’s slow progress. I’ve never used the RT setting brush to apply blush though-I should try that.
* Haul: Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Lip Colour in Red Bowtie — I’m liking it. Wish list: Guerlain Naturel Lingerie de Peau in 01N or 02N — swatched it in store and it’s very nice indeed (I just have to wait until next credit card period)
* Weekend plans: Just back from 2-week business trip so laundry, unpacking, grocery shopping, etc
* Favorite place to read? On a plane or in bed
I haven’t seen too many hauling the new Le Petite Robe Noire lipsticks! Nice to see 🙂
Haul: Kat VonD Project Chimps Everlasting Liquid Lip. It’s a great red that doesn’t scream OMG RED LIPS! I think it’s a very wearable red, and it would look great on most people. I have copper toned red hair and it works for me. Also got Elizabeth and James Rose and Bourbon rollerballs, and Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner.
Weekend Plans: Not much. Probably hang around and read, watch TV, and snuggle with the cats. My husband is at a golf thing this weekend.
Favorite Place to Read: Either bed, or in our library. Yes, we have the floor to ceiling IKEA library in one room in our house. It’s filled with books, some double stacked. The computer is in here as well, along with an electric fireplace. It’s my favorite room ever!
Happy to hear that Project Chimps is working so well on you, Donna! That is awesome.
A library sounds so cool! I feel like there’s no way I could fit one in my house, since we already have two offices and two rooms for makeup, haha.
Aww!!! He has such an expressive face, and those eyes! ❤
Haul: UD Revolution Lipglosses in Vice, Brickhouse and Kinky (LOVE these!), Opi Lincoln Park After Dark, Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, Chanel Rouge Vie lipstick *swoons*, MAC x Taraji P Henson; Strip Me Down (beautiful rich nude!) and a problem…. I ordered Taraji Glow, and what I actually received was not. No, instead due to a serious factory mishap of sorts, I received something that’s *says* Taraji Glow on both box and back of compact, but it’s actually Highlight The Truth!!! Called MAC, turns out most people who ordered TG got HTT instead. They say they’re working on a resolution. Lets hope so. ?
Weekend plans: Food shopping, finish yesterday’s mani/pedi, my hair desperately *needs* a root t/u. About an inch or more of silver sparks enmeshed in mousy dark brown. Yuck. Meeting on Sunday.
Favorite place to read: Laying on my bed in my room in perfect quiet in more recent years! But I used to love sitting in a park under the trees and reading when we still lived in NJ. That was SO peaceful! ?
The UD glosses are underrated, I think!
I am so sad that the one you got isn’t the right one 🙁 I hope they fix it – you are not the first I have seen mention it, so if it is super widespread, I think they will try to really fix it.
They are! I was very pleasantly surprised at how long lasting and moisturizing they are! Plus, well pigmented. ?
As for the TG that isn’t; I sure hope they do, and that they offer all of us some sort of coupon code and free shipping or something to take the sting out of getting a very beautiful highlighter, but not the blush that hundreds if not thousands ordered. It was just VERY weird to take it out the box, all excited to put it on, and that WTH moment! ?
Nancy, if you’re interested, I just got back from the Sephora VIB appreciation event and posted my thoughts on the new products under Sephora Beauty Insider Appreciation Week post dated 9/10/16.
Tarte Pretty Paintbox sounds like a nice travel palette for real! And I’m not a huge Tarte fan. I have wanted the RFOTS Eyeshadow palette ever since Christine reviewed it, and love their foundations usually, too. But this would be great to have if and when I attempt a trip back to NJ/NYC. This and the UD Junkie lip palette would be all I’d have to bring color wise.
Yes, it’s kind of bulky for purse but ok for suitcase/carry on, but the Tarte Pretty Paintbox set would be great for travel, lots of different color combos. My big worry is if the shadows will hold up to my oily lids. It’s a thinner shadow formula than UD or MUFE, and my oily lids tend to eat up the thinner formulas even with primer, but I know most people have no issues. If you do get it, test it before you take it on a trip. The LE Metallic Tarte singles hold up great for me, but it’s a totally different formula, closer to UD and MUFE. I do have one small Tarte travel shadow palette that I got from Ulta (my first regular Tarte shadows!) , but haven’t had a chance to test it yet, but will do so before the return period expires. Will let you know how it goes
OMG, is that what was wrong??? I ordered Taraji Glow and it doesn’t even show up on my skin! I was so disappointed!!
Yep! If you call them and let them know, once they resolve it, they’ll contact you with the detes. At least this is what the SA told me when I called the other night. Apparently this happened to MANY of us.
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii Mellan! 🙂
Haul: Some Rituals stuff. And Estée Lauder skincare.
Weekend plans: Off to Ascona tomorrow, woot!
Favorite place to read?: Couch or bed.
Have fun in Ascona!
Haul: Don’t get too excited now…Pond’s Original Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes. I had a $10 Urban Decay kickback, so I ordered the Gash eyeshadow.
Weekend plans: So much housework. 🙁
Favorite place to read? In bed, or on my couch if no one’s in the living room.
Hope the housework goes by quickly so you can do more fun things this weekend! 🙂
Housework sucks, but Gash rocks! ?
Dying to get my grabby hands on Gash, Snow, Frostbite e/S’s, and Pallor and probably Bruise l/S’s, too!
There are so many pretty vintage shades. I wonder why UD ever dc’d them at all.
Rachel, if you’re interested, I went to the Sephora VIB Appreciation event today, and posted my thoughts on the new holiday products in the Sephora Beauty Insider Appreciation post for 9/10/16. If I remember correctly, you were a big fan of the Tarte blushes, and there’s a set with 10 blushes that you might like
How thoughtful of you to think of me. Thank you! I will definitely check out your post.
The beauty.com came in, in dribble and drabs. And some complain about Ulta packaging! None of the cushioning pillows had any air. They rattled so hard, I was surprised (and lucky) nothing broke. Mac came with deep rooted, burnt pepper, Taraji (yeah, I know they’re dupe, but wth? You like what you like.). Awaiting memebox, mostly Cosrx, with bated breath. Everyone’s hauls were spectacular! Guess I don’t check emails enough. Didn’t know about the Sephora event, not that I ever go, but need to stop in for Goulue (yeah, I know…). And to see if my cover fx bb has turned. Tough, when you have no sense of smell. Plans: catch up on house stuff I neglected, when I had that virus that made me crash for a few weeks and ssdw. Reading: anywhere..outside in the shade, the sun, the couch, the bed, online, the beach. I haven’t read in ~3 weeks either, books that is. It wasn’t at all severe, but it laid me quite low.
My drugstore.com order was like that – I think four or five boxes, lol! Nothing like ultra discounted toilet paper and paper towels…
Hope you are feeling all better, KJH!
kjh, if you’re interested, I just got back from the Sephora VIB appreciation event and posted my thoughts on the new products under Sephora Beauty Insider Appreciation Week post dated 9/10/16.
Haul: MAC Taraji Glow Mineralize Skinfinish, Strip Me Down Lipstick and a travel sized Prep+Prime Fix+
Weekend Plans: Nothing special. We are nursing our cat this weekend .Even though he’s a senior he thinks he’s bad and keeps scraping with the neighborhood cats. He got an access near his eye from a cat bite that got infected and had to be drained . Now he’s wearing that cone on his head. And we are out $500 from vet. bills.
Good thing he’s like a family member !
Favorite Place to Read: In a my cozy recliner chair. Or at the airport, beach ,doctors office etc.. Reading is one of my passions .I read everyday!
Hey Denise!
Oh, your poor cat! Poor baby. Hope he heals up soon!
Denise, I am so sorry to hear about your kitty! Poor fella! I know how unfun it is taking care of a sick or injured cat. They do NOT make for the easiest of patients….??
Oh no, sorry to hear about the $$$ vet bill! That’s a lot of Tom Ford, but what can you do? We love those fur babies. I’m sure he hates the cone LOL but sounds like a badass, so he should be fine
Oh no poor kitty! My baby, Trouble, had the same thing happen to his ear a few months ago only he’s an inside cat. I suspect he either got into a fight with my other cat or did something stupid (he’s prone to that). He had the cone of shame for a month and was a seriously unhappy kitty. Hope your fur baby heals up quickly!
Thanks everybody for wishing my cat boy well!
Those eyes! Oh Mellan you are so charming!
Haul, over the last weeks I’ve recieved some lip products I had ordered.
From OCC, Lip Tar in Mosh and Magnolia
From Jouer, liquid lipsticks (I’m sure they are called some long thing, but I can’t remember) in Snap Dragon and Brique
From Colour Pop, Flitter and Super Shock Shadows in Cricket,Central Perk and I z3 This
From Clinique, Peppermint Pop matte lipstick
I’ve also bought some hair shampoo and hand cream.
I don’t have any weekend plans. I have a lot of things I should do, none of them fun.
Favourite palce to read, anywhere, really.
Nice lip color choices, Helene! Which ones are you liking the most?
I think I like Peppermint Pop the most. It’s not drying, it’s not really matte either, more satiny. Great colour as well.
I love Flitter, the colours is quite unique, and it’s not really drying. Snap Dragon, wonderful, cool colour though I find it a bit drying. Brique looked awful after some minutes, wonderful colour, but my lips lookes like raisins. I’ll try it with balm under next time.
I like Mosh and don’t have a clue why I though I could rock Magnolia, it sorts of work when I really sheer it out, full on it’s back to zombieland. Oh, well one miss regarding colour is OK. It’s not as horrid on as Butter London Teddy Girl that I bought quite a long time ago and still haven’t worn.
Thank you for such a detailed reply, Helene! 🙂 I hope the balm helps Brique for you!
Haul: The last of the stuff I ordered came in – Guerlain Le Gris, Guerlain Liu (a lucky eBay find), Rouge d’Armani #403, and today I picked up NARS tinted moisturizer and concealer.
Weekend Plans: Recovering from the horror of the MCAT. DX
Favorite place to read: I’m also a bed reader! I need at least three pillows stacked though.
Ah! Now the wait for results. I bet you did amazing, Veronica 🙂
Haul: Nothing this week! Trying to behave.
Weekend plans: Lots of sleep! Oh, and going to a beer & cheese festival tomorrow.
Favorite place to read: Bed is good. I also love reading when I’m stuck in the car.
Have fun at the festival, Dianne! 😀
Haul: I snagged a bunch of stuff (mostly nail polish) off the Sephora sale page: a Butter London x Allure Nail Lacquer in the shade Statement Piece (an opaque orange red, crème), and three Formula X shades- Fearless (sage grey), State Of The Art (dark turquoise), and Nightingale (blackberry). I also got a Sephora Collection Contour Matte Gel Eyeliner in 09 Sly Like A Fox (matte terra cotta), and a Sephora Collection Oil Infusion Color in 10 Fresh Berries. Good sale stuff. I also got the BeautyBlender Pro On The Go set off Amazon (was sold out on Beautylish and other places).
Weekend plans: Not much. There’s a heatwave starting up in Portland so mostly hiding indoors. Also checking out episode 4 of Victoria when it airs on Sunday (in the UK on ITV but I have my methods…) as I’m loving that show.
Favorite place to read?: It used to be my backyard in California, now it’s probably also in bed. Though physical books are hard for me to read these days so mostly I read on my laptop in my couch “spot”.
How do you make sure you wear all the polish you buy, Anne? I love polish but am terrible at using it, lol!
I usually paint my nails once a week, though nowadays my mom’s been helping as my hands can’t do it healthwise. I also send a bunch down to my sister as she has two basically-step daughters (she’s been dating their dad for about 10 years) so they all do their nails often. If I order sets, I also tend to donate the dupes in it to my local women’s shelter before I open the bottle as they’ll get more use out of them than I will.
Haul – Nordstrom and Tom Ford won this evening. I picked up the Runway duo and have it on as I type. I also tried the runway blush, which is a very pretty peach shade but I just got the Pride one, so I passed. I also picked up Butter London Horsepower base coat. I prefer it as a topcoat, but it keeps my nails rock-hard. I still think I may pass on the Sephora preview, but I’ll decide in the morning. If I go, I’ll report on any must check-out items.
I need to get the Runway duo!! How do you like it?
Love it. It’s my first duo from Tom Ford – I only liked one color of certain duos in the last release. After molesting my assortment of Tom Ford shadows, I think it’s the typical formulation of shadows and not the gel formula like Nude Dip and the Moodlight powders.
Aw, that is awesome to hear that it is working so well! 🙂

Plans for weekend: We took in my MIL’s dog on Tues night as she’s away on holiday. It was a last minute decision as the plan was to just feed and walk him twice a day but my fiancé has had to get to work for 6am this week and it’s difficult for me with our 2 year old, he is very strong and pulls on the lead. So we decided to take him in so my fiancé could just take him out rather than having to drive to my MIL’s to do that then drive back home and then cycle to work. He can’t drive to work because parking is expensive in the city and anyway I need it for running errands in the day. Our daughter loves the dog and imitates his panting which is so funny and cute to see lol. My cat hates it though and has been hiding in our bedroom the whole time. He goes back tomorrow which our daughter will be upset about ? but it’ll be easier on my fiancé, the cat and me!
Favourite place to read: In bed, but my fiancé goes to bed early and the light disturbs him so I read in my armchair with my feet up on the footstool before going to bed. I like to read in solitude with no-one disturbing me, lol!
Nice Star Trek haul, Claire! Are you a big fan of the franchise?
The question is how long until your daughter is begging for a dog!
Thank you! I like Star Trek but I’m only a bit of a fan. I think it was the glittery element of this collection that drew me, but also that it’s rather fun!
Yes, my daughter asks about the dog everyday, I think once she realises that having one as our actual pet is a possibility, rather than just seeing Granny’s dog, she’ll definitely be wanting one! Haha! It’ll have to be a small one that’s easy to walk, maybe a cocker spaniel. Not terriers, I’m not keen on them. I grew up with a Golden retreiver and I still love the breed but I’m not a huge walker so that’s out. Will have to see when Charlotte’s a bit older.
Ah!! Your first Chanel lipstick! That’s so exciting. You chose a gorgeous color!
Haul: Ordered Chanel Le Emprent du Desert palette and Sable eyeliner (with expiring NM promo gift card), pre-ordered Chanel’s Candeur et Experience palette, Rouge Brule, black jade Kohl liner and Agape liner (20% off pre-orders – Bon Ton Goodwill Sale).
Weekend Plans: Road trip to visit family for a week.
Favourite place to read: Anywhere there’s a good cup of coffee.
Yay! Empreinte du Desert! Such a beautiful palette 🙂
Haul: I got the Armani maestro glow Foundation. I was recommended the fondation back in April here on Temptalia by two different people when I complained about YSL touche eclat foundation not being good anymore. I am happy with this purchase. It will replace the YSL fondation. Also repurchased the liquid eyeliner from Armani and bought the luminous silk compact in the shade transluctant to use as setting powder. Not happy with the powder. It seems to lie on top of the skin in a weird way. Maybe I should have gotten one of colored ones but I don’t really want to add extra color to my face (given that it is already a bit darker than the rest of me).
Weekend plans: None at the moment except need to shop food.
Fav Place to read: That depends. I read a lot non-fiction and I like to read that at my kitchen table. If I am reading other types of books then I read it in bed.
So glad that you’re enjoying Maestro Glow so much, Anna!
