What makeup did you wear for a big personal moment? (Like a graduation, wedding, etc.)
I have no idea what I wore for graduation (any of them), LOL! I was, however, blogging when I got married, so I have a post on everything I wore here.

With the lone exception of my wedding back in January 1983, I couldn’t even tell you the color scheme! But my none to great wedding pics stand in testament to one of my absolute WORST makeup looks ever to wind up in a pic…then again, it *was* ’83. Let’s just say, I now know how to do a frost some justice!
OMG! I just went and looked at your wedding makeup pics, Christine. You look absolutely RADIANT! And your makeup is flawless, too! ?
How do I find this post?
I wore Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation, Meteorites Voyage pressed powder (the pastel one), Guerlain Blush G, Edward Bess Afterglow highlighter, Dior Crush Glow eyeshadow quint, Chanel Taupe Stylo eyeliner (I think), can’t remember the mascara I wore except it was waterproof but I didn’t even cry and the lipstick was either Guerlain Rouge G in Gemma or Chanel Hydrabase Rose Drop at different points during my wedding day.
Wow Christine, you looked beautiful! I had no idea you had posted that, as I wasn’t a reader back then, but what great pics! I have no idea what makeup I wore during my wedding, but it was from my existing stash, which was pretty small back then. After buying our house, buying all the furniture, and replacing the leaky roof and all the windows, we decided to skipped the big wedding (no money left!) and got married at City Hall. I did my own makeup and hair, and it all turned out very nice (whew!)
I just now viewed Christine’s wedding makeup pics…and was in utter awe of her skills and how beautiful the result was!
Right?? Well, if this bloggin gig doesn’t work out, she can always do wedding makeup, but let’s hope she keeps blogging for a long time !
She really could! Truly mad skills, especially in this wedding look! Hunted through a bunch of old pics to find one of mine (city hall wedding, so) I couldn’t stop laughing at mine: White Gothic dress (yes, you read righ), dark purple or eggplant eyeshadow look with frosty white brow highlighter, bright fuchsia blush, some SUPER frosty pink lipstick, and my hair dyed jet black and in a bizarre punk wavy spikey number. Ye Gads!!!
OMG, LMAO, that’s hysterical!! I have some horrible old pics too -short spiky black hair (was going for the punk look), lots of black shadow all around the eye, too white foundation- I looked like a frickin’ panda!! But I can’t beat yours, nope, you win! LOL
My POOR Mom when she saw that dress…said it looked like a nurses uniform from the 1890’s or one of those “demonic” music videos! She was already used to my crazy makeup and hair. To *some* degree.
I did my own makeup for my wedding. I wore a gray and a pink eyehadow, a pearly gray pencil liner, all from Bourjois, no foundation but two different powders, Guerlain’s Météorites and the classic Caron loose powder for coverage (I had really good skin at that time), Guerlain Blush G, and a Kiko long-wearing lipstick that I think is called Double Touch, a dupe for MAC Pro Longwear formula.
On my wedding day I wore a rosy peach & brown smokey eye (Smashbox Cherry Smoke Palette) with a coral pink lip (Urban Decay Sheer Streak) and a rosy cheek (don’t remember which blush exactly, oops!)
Fun question!
I can remember at my wedding wearing an Estee Lauder eye shadow quad in shades of lavenders and purples. I remember wetting the shadows for better payoff, before I knew that was a thing one could do. No Internet 30 years ago! I thought I was so original, and such a rebel!
Wine with Everything lipstick by Revlon. I don’t remember the blush, but I’m sure it was applied with a much too heavy hand, as that was what I did in those days. 🙂
I also recall sitting in front of a gazillionx magnifying mirror to be sure not one stray eyebrow hair. Reinterpret today as over plucking, but those were the days.
I graduated highschool back in the 70’s and uni in the late 70’s. I didn’t wear much makeup back then and have no idea at all what I wore. I know UDPP didn’t exist so I probably wore liner and mascara but not much in the way of eyeshadow! I do remember, though, for my daughter’s wedding, that I used Guerlain’s Les Fumes 5 pan eyeshadows paired with a light MAC shade (either Phloof or Dazzlelight) as a highlighter and I wore Craving lipstick and probably Lingerie de Peau foundation and for sure Hourglass concealer (I’d bought it about a month or 6 weeks before specifically so I could use it for the day). I remember your wedding makeup blog, Christine, and the LE Guerlain eyeshadow palette you used – Coup de foudre (while literally it means “lightning bolt”, idiomatically, it means “love at first sight” – in the sense of totally thunder struck – and I thought at the time “what a perfect name for a wedding product!”)
Chanel makeup done by a fantastic Chanel artist. It was exquisite!
We just had one!
My biggest makup decisions for the formal event were eyeshadow and lipstick. Thanks to Temptalia and Christine, and a little of my own testing, the winners for the evening were: Chanel Empreinte du Desert Eyeshadow quad and
Nars Audacious Marlene lipstick
They looked nice and lasted all evening. Everything was set with MAC Fix Plus, and pressed into the skin with a wet Beauty Blender. The Chanel shadows were dusted over similar MAC matte shadows. I did use a MAC paint pot as a shadow base.
It worked for me.
Ooooh – another Empreinte du Desert fan. That makes at least 3 of us here. It’s such a beautiful quad and to think I nearly passed on it….shriek!
At least 3, maybe more! I love my Empriente du Desert quad, it’s just so eye brightening! ????
I was thinking of you, Nancy, when I wrote that post since I know for a fact you’re the other “regular” here who loves it. I went to look at the new Chanel autumn quad even though I really knew it wouldn’t work for me (it really isn’t for me at all) but there was still one Empreinte du desert quad left (not very busy Chanel counter in a city outside Toronto, Ontario) so I BOUGHT IT figuring I like mine so much and there doesn’t seem to be a heck of a lot of product in it. It’s the only eyeshadow quad I’ve ever purchased a backup of!
Getting a backup is one very smart move, Mariella! And likely some sheer luck that there was even one left, because this is probably one of their best quads, hands down.
Nancy, I enjoy and trust your comments! I just had to try this quad. Now it’s a history making favorite of mine! Thanks!
YW! But in all fairness, it was actually Christine’s review and simply stunning eye look she did using this quad that just wowed me so much that I too had to have it!
Cheers Mariella! It was all the comments on Temptalia that made me go see it in person. Thanks!
What a beautiful combination of colours. I am sure your photos will be lovely.
Thanks Genevieve! The NARS Marlene lipstick is brighter than my everyday MAC Brick o la. SoI tried it out several times and my friends all said to go for it. So that must be my style,
“Classic, but always willing to try something new”
I kept my makeup simple because I didn’t want to spend money buying something new, and we married just the two of us in Vegas, so nobody could help me with this. I also didn’t want to wear anything that is very trendy now but will look dated in the future (such as very dark lips, that I like wearing now).
MAC face & body foundation, since it is the one I use everyday, but with more layers. MAC prolongwear concealer, MAC mineralize natural powder, NARS orgasm blush, the balm cindylou-manizer highlighter
Urban Decay naked smoky palette (I don’t remember which shadows), benefit they’re real eyeliner, I’m not sure about the mascara, I guess it was Benefit Roller Lash.
and MAC Fashion Revival lipstick.
Every time I see the pictures, I think I did a great job.
I remember few things that I used on my graduation, even thought it was more than 10 years ago… on my high school graduation, the makeup artist was rude when we went to their studio to talk about what we were use. So we cancelled the appointment, when to a makeup store, purchased everything we needed because we didn’t have much make up at the time, and I, my mother and my sister did our makeup ourselves.
On my college graduation, I did most of my own makeup, but a cousin offered to do my eyes because she said she was good at it. But I didn’t like her style of eye shadow after she had it finished.
I wore Clinique Black Honey lipstick for both my high school (1994) and college (1998) graduations, and I think I may actually have worn it for my grad school graduation (2004) just for continuity’s sake.
My last big occasion was my 40th birthday dinner. I wore L’Oreal Lumi cushion foundation, Milk eye gloss and cheek tint in Perk, and Buxom lip polish in Bellini – very easy and glowy.
omg, memories! Black Honey (gloss in a pot) was the very first non DS thing I ever bought. Freshman year of highschool!!
I can’t remember any makeup look I’ve done for any special occasion because I wasn’t much into makeup at the time of either of my graduations, or at prom, or at any other formal event I attended back in the day. I can imagine that they were very lipstick and mascara-centric since that was what going all out meant to me back then.
I didn’t start wearing makeup until after college, so I look pretty terrible in my graduation photos. Haha!
Please post the backlink to your wedding photo.
Don’t remember anything, but have far fewer occasions than most. Although, if anyone wants to suggest something for my 50th HS reunion next month, feel free. All I think so far is one of the nars audacious brown reds and cola pop. That’s my fallback position, anyway, for any day. Wearing conventional and drab fall colors in silk both nights, solid pants/over shirt in sort of a mustardy gold and a long paisley dress in black, brown, navy, rust, etc., nothing sparkly or evening. Maybe I should get Squid Ink for the dress…. Think my general impression on others was a tad eccentric. Feel free to advise…. Neither of these outfits is cool toned, obviously.
It’s linked in my answer, actually, but the link is the same color as the background so it is the little pink space between “wore” and the “.” Will have to see if there’s anything I can do about that to prevent it from happening…
I love the idea of Squid Ink! Keep everything else neutral/basic, and let the lip color be the star.
I wore a black leather corset & velvet cape to my 10 year, with red & purple eyeshadow, and noone was shocked. I was always a bit OTT in my choices, and the main difference was I had more money to put into my look, and more skill in my makeup application.
I don’t remember my second marriage other than Kitten eyeshadow and L’Oreal Voluminous mascara. My first I wore a Cargo lipstick called Nevis (think Black Honey but with a hint more color), a Lorac palette for lips and eyes, and Stila Illuminating Foundation and powder.
In my youth I didn’t wear much makeup (except for the Mary J. Blige “Not Gon’ Cry” look, in my teens and young motherhood I barely wore makeup.
For my college graduation 3 years ago I had a nice glow of bronzer, gorgeous pink BiTE lipstick in Palamino and a nice golden eye.
I can’t think of any specific products color wise. But I’m really sure I’ll be looking for longevity, lasting and staying power and non-oxidizing foundation products to start with. Probably Giorgio Armani foundation and powder would be the first things that come to my list.
I don’t remember what I wore to high school graduation (1988). I think my favorite CoverGirl brown eyeshadow quad (Chocolate…something?)at the time and a bright red lipstick cream lipstick. Senior prom, I wore a DS quad in shades of shimmery blue-gray that really made my eyes sparkle and brought out the brown tones, and red lips. I still have never found any other grays that work that well on me. I have no idea whatsoever what I wore to college graduation (1992). Probably a pin-up eye, winged black liner, and red or coral lipstick. When I got married (1991), I wore my trusty brown CG quad (I went through so many of them), and the rest was Clinique, which was the hip young person high end brand at the time. There was a perfect soft rosy pink blush and a light pink lipstick that was pretty, but too white-based, and I still regret. I had a pink dress (I look washed out in white), and I was going to wear a darker rose shade, but the SA insisted the pale shade matched better and looked great. on me My mom agreed with her, and since she was paying for it, I was kind of forced to go with the lighter shade. I think it looks kind of dated in my photos, though it’s not horrible.
Oh gosh! Let me think! It was only a year and a half ago so I should remember because I did it myself (with a dear friend’s help!
Foundation: Maybelline Fit Me: Matte + Poreless in Ivory
Blush: NARS Orgasm
Eyeshadow: Naked 3 – Strange, Limit, Nooner, Liar
Eyeliner: Maybelline Unstoppable in Onyx
Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex
Eyebrows: Benefit Brow Zings in Medium 3
Lips: MAC Viva Glam V
It was soft, glamorous, and affordable!
My wedding was back in 1976 and makeup then was pretty average. I know I wore the Revlon colourstay foundation and a pretty good bronze metal shade of lipstick, but my eye shadow had worn off by the time I got to the pics.
Your wedding photos, Christine, are just beautiful. You look as every bride should on their wedding day. Perfect.
I wasn’t big into makeup when I graduated or got married. The most recent “special occasion” I had, even though it wasn’t a big moment personal moment for me, was my brother’s wedding and I wore Hourglass Mineral Veil primer, Dior Star foundation, Hourglass Luminous Flush blush, Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer, Dior 3 Couleurs Smoky eyeshadow, and Marc Jacobs Nude Sheer Lip Gel in Role Play.
For my wedding; Mac, Mac and more Mac. Purple shades, all bought and applied by my MUA Aunt (she worked for Estée Lauder but always took me to the Mac counter for big occasions) oh and Carbon for my eyeliner which is still my #1 love from Mac. Lipstick is long gone and I’ve replaced 1 of the 2 purple shadows but I still haven’t panned the blush. I’m afraid to now bc I have no idea if it is Dc’ed. Oh and white eyeshadow primer in the old packaging BF paint pots came along. No idea what foundation, probably whatever was in my stash…
I’m a baby, fresh out of Highschool, going to Cosmetology school currently. So I’m not married, and I haven’t “graduated” cosmetology school yet!!
But for my grade 13 prom last year, I did my own makeup, and my friends makeup! I wore:
Estee Lauder Double wear in 3N1, IT Cosmetics Celebration foundation in Medium beige all over to set, I wore Benefit Bela Bamba on my cheeks, Sephora Brand Baked Luminizor in 01 Star dust on my cheek bones/cupids bow.
For my eyes, I did Too Faced shadow insurance, MAC wedge in the crease (A lightish cool matte brown!), Colourpop Kae Pop Crenshaw (Matte WARM brown) In the crease, Colourpop Nillionair patted with a finger onto my Eye lids (I don’t even know how to DESCRIBE it!! It’s a golden brown with red, and gold gltter!! Very shiny!!) And a matte dark brown I cant remember on my outer V and lower lashline.
For lips, I wore MUFE Aqua Rouge liquid lipstick in 9 (Warm brickish dark red!!)
For my hair, I did a fishtail french braid (My hair goes to my hip bones!!) that went over my right shoulder, with a few whispy bang pieces out floating around my face!!
I felt very beautiful, and looking back at my pictures, I don’t regret my choices at all!!!
