I care for my nails by getting routine manicures and in between I use a nail hardner polish b/c my nails chip. Finally, I put on an awesome color that will influence my attitude!

Tiffany C. Avatar

once a week i give myself a manicure and i use mark.’s Big Fix on my cuticles. i try to paint my nails when i have time, because it keeps me from biting them.

Claudia Avatar

I’m a big nail buff so I definitely always try to keep my nails in shape. Cuticle oil, hand cream and use a glass nail file. If I see nails split then I file my nails down to the split so it can re-grow stronger.

Janice Avatar

I usually always have some kind of polish on them, and keep them trimmed- a few nights a week i’ll go to sleep with some burts bees cuticle cream on, or LUSH lemony flutter!

Abril Avatar

I just apply a nail treatment with calcium and garlic…. I’ve always had hard nails and they really grow fast so I rarely use something haha

eleanor Avatar

I always wear gloves when washing dishes or cleaning house for one. I also have nail files everywhere! My car, purses, drawer by my couch ect. I used to get my nails done but it’s so time consuming. I find it’s easier to have my little spa box with everything I need: cuticle remover, buffer, file and a strength clear coat

Kathy Avatar

At night, I use the Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. I think that stuff is amazing. That’s basically the most “fancy” thing I do to take care of my nails though.

I clip and file my nails to keep them looking clean and even whenever they need it, and I change nail polish colors about every 3-4 days. And that’s about it!

Delia - Katharina Avatar

I file my nails in a form that is comfortable for me, so they don´t break up. After that i apply nail harder so the don´t get cracks. And than i colour my nails with a nail lacquer i like and who works with the season and the clothes i want to wear. and as a finish i aplly a transparent lacquer that the colour doesn´t gets off .

Yulivee Avatar

First of all I do change my polish every other day so that i can let some nail oil soak in. I use Nailhardener and an undercoat. My handrcream is also good for nailgrowth. I use a glass file for shortening and forming my nails.

Cindy Avatar

I am a nail polish junkie & do a complete manicure on my tips at least once a week & change polish ever 2-3 days. For basic nail care I use CND Solar Oil on my nails & cuticles about 5 times a day & apply a good lotion just as much. I only file about once every 2 weeks (except for spot repairs) & most importantly, I don’t use my nails as tools. My nails are one of my most coveted & definitely most cared for accessories – they are treated as such.

Aimee Avatar

right now I have to keep them pretty short, so I file and apply a clear nail hardener over. I have very soft brittle nails so I must make the effort to take care of them.

☆Lola A♏ ★ Avatar

I have found that my nails keep their length, if I maintain the polish on them. So every couple of days I use Sally Hansen’s Miracle Cure, Creative Nail sticky base coat, two coats of nail color, and Posh’s quick dry top coat. My nails are long and staying that way. I try to keep my cuticles moisturized as well.

Tanya Avatar

my nails were really bad so i start using 3step rehabilitation for nails from sally hansen and i must admit it works)) + cream so my hands are all nice and smooth!

Natalia Bortoli Avatar

Every 15 days I go to the manicurist in the middle of that time I hydrate my cuticles and hands to never have those loose skins or cuticles
enormous.

Nikki Avatar

I keep my cuticles cut and fingernails filed, every two weeks. I also give myself french manicures once in a blue moon, and everybody thinks I wear acrylics. 🙂

ter Avatar

I use Solar Oil every night. I also use hand cream a lot. If I want to give my nails a day without polish I make sure to have a nail strengthening coat on them. I also wear gloves while doing chores.

Frances Avatar

Jade Dragon Nail Lacquer looks so awesome!!

I give myself manicures about my once a week so I can always change colours. I use a lot of Lush’s Lemony Flutter cuticle cream to take care of my nails 🙂

Peggy Avatar

Well, im a cosmetologist.
So its highly important for me to have nice nails.
They cant be too long so i file them everyday.
I also paint them every other day.
Once i see chipping, i remove my nail polish.
Don;t want my clients to think bad about me ;P!

XOXO

Michelle A. Avatar

I have found that always having polish on really helps keep my nails long. If I don’t have anything on my nails, they immediately start to break. I also think it’s important to moisturize your cuticles. It looks terrible when you have a great manicure and dried up cuticles! Lush’s Lemony Flutter is a good cream.

Sarah Avatar

man o man, a lot of my hard earned money goes to bi-weekly acrylics and pedicures! 😀 If I dont go to the nail salon, my boyfriend tells me i have “Jesus-feet” hahahahhahaha 🙁 :/

Suzanne Avatar

I use Yes To Carrots Hand & Nail Spa once a week on bare nails, after I buffed them.

My everyday routine: before I go to bed I apply Lush Lemony Flutter and massage my hands with Essie Smoothie. 🙂

macismycrack Avatar

I try to give myself a gentle manicure at least once a week, I used to have acrylics so they are very damaged now I have been using Seche Vite and China glaze to keep them looking cute! my favorite lately is the neon colors with different sparkly top coats

Jessica Allison Avatar

eek! I’m glad the winner is randomly chosen & nit determined by who takes the best care if their nails. I do nothing. Which is why I rarely have nails to speak of. Growing mine out takes major maintenence- daily cuticle scrub & oil, always wearing dish gloves (I like to put olive oil on my cuticles before I put on my gloves!) I also have to have something on them at all times- either polish or a treatment like Nailtiques…so, yeah, I rarely have nails!

Amy p Avatar

I actually don’t have much time to do anything with them anymore, I used to take care of them but now all i do is paint them once in awhile :/

Karolina Avatar

I just use Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle every other day or under my nailpolish – it does wonders! I also lik to put Badger Lipbalm on my cuticles 🙂

CaMesha Avatar

In between manicures, I treat my nails to a good clean and cut. I also have a buffer that smooths and shines then I apply cuticle oil. Lastly I bought a mini nail care pack from OPI that has base coat, nail strengthener, and a top coat.

Buzz Avatar

Hi Christine!

As far as my nails are concerned, I don’t do much. I just file ’em down every few times I change the colour. I LOVE nail polish though, I keep a rack in my room of them organized by colour 🙂

Olivia A Avatar

I regularly clip & file my nails because I like to keep them short (it’s easier to keep them clean that way, too!), and try to keep my hands moisturized on a regular basis, too! 🙂

Holly Avatar

Looove these MAC nail colors!!!

Not too long ago I actually broke myself of the NASTY habit of biting your nails! I know, grose… but I had been doing it without being aware of it since I was a little kid.

Sooo anyways… now I absolutely love taking care of and doing my nails. I was never able to wear polish on them because they were too short. Now I make sure to file them multiple times a week and keep them painted with fabulous colors 🙂

ashbash Avatar

i dont take good care of my nails. i really want to do better but it falls to be bottom of my list. i have nail polish in great colors but i really only take the time to beautify my toes.

Taunya Avatar

I always have polish on my nails! Every 5 days or so I use a China Glaze base (some sort of bonder), 2 coats of color (it’s so hard to decide…so many colors to choose from!), OPI clear top coat and Seche Vite top coat on top of that…best combo I’m found so far that makes my manicure last for 5-6 days…NO CHIPPING!

Liz S. Avatar

I do not mess around when it comes to my manicure/pedicure regimen! First, I scrub with Sabon Body scrub which is loaded with essential oils! Second, I push back cuticles, apply solaroil and trim with nippers! I buff and file my nails before color application. Lastly, I always use a proper base coat followed by a fabulous color and Seche Vite top coat of course!

xoxo

Dawn Avatar

I have to use Rimmel Nail Rescue, as my nails have a tendency to tear at the slightest thing. Probably doesn’t help that as a Mum I am always putting my hands in washing up water

Kat Avatar

Honestly, I don’t take very good care of my nails. I shorten/file them, smooth the edges and use handlotion, that’s it. I love to wear nailpolish on the weekends, no extra care there either.

Vita Avatar

With my job its kind of hard to keep my nails in great shape so I aim for good shape 🙂 I try and keep them trimmed and keep jagged edges smooth.

Evelyn Avatar

I just file my nails regularly and make sure i don’t bite/pick them off. I have a bad habit of doing that, lol. I cut them so they don’t get too long ’cause I find I can’t use the keyboard that well if they’re long.

Laura Avatar

I’d love to win this! I use a lot to take care of my nails. I use a crystal nail file from Nail Tek, cuticle remover once a week (Lippmann Collection) (deal note – I found those two at Ollie’s for .99 and $1.99 respectively), Barielle Moisturizing Ridge Filler, nail color, and topped with Poshe. For remover I use Zoya’s Remove+.

Heather Avatar

Usually I remove old polish, buff and file, use a sally hansen nail treatment or nailtek, then I make sure to keep polish on them all week. seche vite topcoat really helps with that!

Ula Avatar

Taking care of my nails is very important to me. I like to give myself a manicure at least twice a week. Before I paint my nails, I bath my hands in warm water, push back my cuticles and file my nails. I guess it’s the way pretty much everybody does it, but this is how I take care of my nails. 🙂
By the way: I love the Jade Dragon Nail Lacquer! The colour looks beautiful…

Jessica Avatar

I’m pretty low key. I use OPI for Sephora Nail Strengther as a base coat, then two coats of the polish, and OPI for Sephora top coat. I like to soak my fingers and moisturize before starting the paint job. Unless it’s for a special occasion I do my own manicures.

Kalex Avatar

Even if I don’t have a color on my nails I always use a base or protective coat of polish of some sort. I ocassionally use Mary Kay’s Satin Hands for an at home manicure too.

Punita Avatar

I use Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter cuticle cream… when I remember to! More frequently though, I’ll rub some Vaseline on them at night, and I try my absolute best not to pick or chew at the cuticles… it’s a slow-dying addiction.

grace Avatar

i love to keep my nail polish fresh.
every three days or so i remove the polish
wash and dry my nails then file and shape them
after that i apply a nail strengthening base coat
followed by whatever polish or design i like
after that seal with a top coat and i’m good to go
as soon as there is noticeable chip wear or the mood hits me
i switch it up again 🙂
i also use a bliss cuticle creme every evening to ward off hangnails and dry cuticles 🙂

Julia Avatar

I like to use hand lotion and massage it into my cuticles. I also keep my nails short and filed, I can’t stand it when they are too long and dirt gets underneath!

Jessie Q Avatar

I moisturize all the time, and I use a Sephora by OPI nail treatment as a base whenever I paint my nails. I also keep my nails pretty short these days, and I file/paint them about once a week.

kelly alice. Avatar

once a week i trim / push back the cuticles / hangnails and file. i always use a base and top coat. daily i use jojoba / almond / coconut oil to moisturize the nail area.

Marie Avatar

I don’t do much actually. I’m lucky to have nice-looking nails au naturel. I just shape them regularly with a nail file, and use a hand and nail cream every other day. 🙂

Anita Avatar

Hand cream every night, rose salve on the cuticles, and I push back the cuticles whenever I’m going to paint my nails…that’s sort of about it, lol. I bought a nail hardener but it didn’t seem to be doing a darn thing, and it would just make my nails weird and the stuff would flake off.

I have such an awful habit of picking at my nails — like someone else would pick at blemishes — and they are very brittle and peel-y, and that doesn’t help 😛 They break a LOT. I plan to look online to decide on a better nail hardener to use. But currently I’m using nail polish because it does seem to lessen the amount of breakage…

Also the fact that I take a lot of showers/go swimming a lot probably doesn’t help XD I used to think it did, because after a shower my nails were actually noticeably longer.

Kristine Avatar

I file and paint them at least once a week. I don’t cut my cuticles, I just fix them up using an orange stick and cuticle oil. I also use a strengthening soak about once every other week.

Naz Avatar

Every now and again I sink my nails/fingers into half a lemon. And moisturize with Burt Bees Almond Hand Creme. So thick and rich and smells good enough to eat! Also, wearing gloves when I clean is super important to keeping up soft hands and neat cuticles.

Courtney Avatar

I file all the time, use Lush Lemony’s Flutter on my cuticles, and try to keep them painted with OPI strengthener as a base.

But every now and then I just trim them all down and start fresh.

Janelle Avatar

I exfoliate my hands once a week with a sugar olive oil scrub and then slather on plain yogurt to keep my hands smooth and soft and my nails strong.

Jessica Avatar

I always have my nails manicured never without nail polish on. I put cuticle cream around my nails everyday and use a cuticle remover once a week.

Rengirl Avatar

I take care of my nails in 3 ways:
1) Always wear gloves when doing dishes/gardening.
2) Habitual application of Burt’s Bees Lemon Cuticle Butter.
3) Never have naked nails. Full manicures give my nails extra strength and protection.

Kelly Avatar

all i do is file them to the squoval shape i like, add a basecoat, and polish them. sometimes i push the cuticles down and nip away excess skin around the nail. i almost always have nail polish on since i hate having naked nails!

Farah Avatar

I wear gloves when I wash dishes, cleaning with chemicals, or just cleaning. I use hand cream and make sure my cuticles are clean.
I also make sure I get good calcium intake to help my nails grow.

TiffaniDenisa Avatar

I use a glass file to shorten them (I prefer my nails short anyway), handcreme – from time to time I put on a really thick coat and then put on gloves and let the cream soak into the skin on my hands and into my cuticules and I try often to use nail treatment polishes.

Alisha in WI Avatar

I have this Sally Hansen clicky pen thing with a brush (green & white), various strengtheners, and also have clear OPI stuff for peeling nails. Not sure if any of it helps but I can at least try. I also only use non-acetone remover, moisturize when I remember, and a base coat always.

Naomi Avatar

I make sure to file them about once a week to prevent… is it called double layering? LOL. I also put on a strengthening base coat and hand lotion.

Becca Avatar

I take care of my nails by always having a full manicure; the base coat is important since it nourishes the nails, and the polish and top coat make my nails stronger!

Kristen Avatar

I like to use my china glaze oil for my cuticles and their strengthening polish to keep them from splitting. I always use a base-coat to avoid getting yellow nails.

Brittany Avatar

Ive always been lucky to have nails that grow strong and long quickly. I always cut and file them when needed. Other than that they look fake, which i take as a compliment.

Grace Avatar

I take care of my nails by cutting the regularly and applying a cuticle oil from OPI that smells like heaven. From time to time I will use a handscrub to moisturize my nail beds and slough off dead skin on my hands. I use the Sephora by Opi basecoat whenever I’m not using polish because it nourishes, brightens, and strengthens my nails!

Stephanie Avatar

Every night I put Seacret oil on my cuticles, then Seacret lotion and I use the buffer once or twice a week and I try to get a professional manicure once a month…. but that doesn’t always happen! I like doing my nails myself to play with colors!

Audri Avatar

I take care of my nails just by filing, buffing, and cleaning, etc – nothing too interesting. Moisturizing nightly helps tremendously to promote healthy-looking nails.

Michele Avatar

– cuticle cream
– push and snip off dead skin
– buff
– moisturizing base coat
– nail polish
– top coat
– cutcle restoration oil

but this is only when i have more time -_-“

Karen Avatar

I use lotion to moisturize them, China Glaze Calcium Fortifier to make them strong, a glass file to make them shaped nicely, and polish to make them pretty!

Courtney s Avatar

Well when I get off work, I wash my hands and apply hand lotion. Most times I file, and apply a clear base coat. If I’m feelin frisky I’ll apply polish. It all just depends!

Carrie Avatar

I keep my nails filed fairly short & keep my hands/feet moisturized. I don’t wear polish on my hands very often, but I feel naked w/out color on my toes!

Kim Avatar

please enter me to win! i’ve actually just recently gotten into taking good care of my nails — hard to do here in the mountains with all the outdoor activities! nonetheless, i am diligent about using burt’s bees lemon cuticle cream and some hand lotion every night, hand cream with SPF during the day, and dish gloves for dishes and cleaning with chemicals. i’m trying hard not to trim my cuticles and have finally invested in a ceramic file, good base, and proper cuticle pusher. my healthy diet keeps ’em growing long and strong.

woohoo! wearing beautiful polish makes it all worth it.

Danielle Avatar

I always carry lotion with me throughout the day. At night I rub in Smith’s Rosebud Salve to my cuticles. I also make sure to always have some kinds of polish on my nails, even if it’s just clear, because it strengthens my nails and helps prevent them from breaking. Plus, I keep my nails at a certain length. If I let them get too long then they’re more likely to break as well.

Rita Avatar

I’m not very good at taking care of my hands, but I try to put moisturizer as often as I can, and I file the nails, and sometimes use cuticle oil.

Jade Avatar

I don’t actually do anything for my nails. I actually bite them when they get too long. I don’t push back the cuticles, which is what I’m told you’re supposed to do, but I like the look and feel of having nice big cuticles.

P.S. My name is Jade so obviously this polish was made for me. Just sayin.

Yuliya Avatar

I take care of my nails by making sure I keep my hands moisturized and that the nails have polish on them. My nails seems to only break when I don’t have any polish on them lol

Anna Phylactyc Avatar

I’m always changing my polish! I apply Lush Lemony Flutter and Burt’s Bees Almond Milk hand cream every night before bed, Lush Smitten hand cream throughout the day, *never* cut my cuticles, and file them weekly w/ a glass file. Thanks for the contest!

nicala7 Avatar

i use moisturizer a lot throughout the day, at night i use a thicker moisturizer and focus on my cuticles. about once a week i change my polish. i use a cuticle oil to soften my cuticles and push them back with a wooden tool. i keep my nails super short, too. i use a file more than i use nail clippers 🙂

Brenda Avatar

Thanks to your advice (“ask temptalia”) I started using cuticle oil a few months ago. It’s amazing what that did with my nails, for the first time in my life I have beautiful long nails!

Kimber Y. Avatar

I file my nails a squoval shape with a glass file. I use Burt’s Bees lemon butter cuticle cream at night and various hand creams throughout the day to keep my mitts moisturized.

Shannon Avatar

I get regular manicures and try to keep moisturized or use cuticle oil. My nails are so short and flaky that I also started taking supplements to help strengthen and grow them out.

Labelle Avatar

I use chip skip every time I do a manicure and either a moisturizing base coat or a hardening base coat. I use Lush’s lemony flutter to keep my cuticles moisturized too.

Cheyenne Avatar

I use one of those ‘rectangular’ things to get rid of ridges, add shine and so forth. I also clip my cuticles. Lastly I use lotion on my hands, because my fingers tend to crack. *^_^* Now I wish I knew how to keep my nails from catching on everything!!

Lucy Avatar

Please include me in the giveaway. I manicure my nails every week. I use Blue Cross cuticle remover. File my nails and use a buffer if needed. I clean under the free edge with an orange stick wrapped in cotton. I dip it in peroxide first. After everything is clipped, filed and smooth I use Zoya’s Ridge Filler, polish and then a topcoat. When everything is nice and dry I use cuticle oil. I remove my polish about every three days to change the color. A full manicure every week. I moisturize every time I wash my hands. Thank you.

Nicolette Avatar

i really dont do much to my nails. they just grow long and healthy. i drink lots of water so im so that keeps them healthy and i use moisturizer on my hands everyday.

Luna Avatar

I try to get professionally manicured once a month or so, but if I don’t keep on top of them myself, I’d bite them to bits! Every other day, I dip my fingertips in a bitter rosemary solution to keep myself from unconsciously biting, and once a week I go over whichever polish I’m using with a coat of nail-strengthening topcoat. Also, I rub in LUSH’s Lemony Flutter cuticle cream every night or so to keep everything smooth and under control!

I give myself weekly manicures. I use a hydrating basecoat and vitamin e massages daily. My nails are in really great shape! The better to show off my 300+ polish collection!

Leslie C. Avatar

I take care of my nails by always filling them down to size when they are too long, i get manicures weekly and i always make sure to have a moisturize my nail beds and clip any stray cuticles.

Gaby Avatar

The best way to have nice nails is to behave like a princess and do not touch anything, but as it is impossible I would not bite them and have a manicure often.

Katie Avatar

To be honest, I don’t! My nails have never been my biggest priority but I do file them once a week because they grow so fast. I used to get them done all the time, that is, until I had kids!

Madelaine S Avatar

To keep my nails in tip top shape, I clean under my nails daily (as I’m an artist). I also moisture my hands everyday, and trim them weekly. Plus to increase strength, I ensure to put on bottom coat, polish and top coat.

Josie Avatar

I use a glass nail file, I use moisturizer at night and I don’t paint them every week. If I do, my nails start to … peel? I don’t know how to describe it… layers of my nails just peel off… it’s weird I know! So I paint them only every 2 weeks to keep them breathing and healthy as possible!

Emma Avatar

I do my own nails with lots of fun different colors of polish. I pain my fingernails about once a week and do my toe nails about once a month.

Marjolijn Avatar

I clip them when they’re too long, gently push back cuticles and put on cuticle cream sometimes. I don’t paint them very often but when I do, I make sure I use a gentle remover (once the nailpolish has chipped) so I won’t dry my nails out too much 🙂

melanie Avatar

I like to keep my nails super healthy and shiny so I moisturize constantly, use cuticle oil (using standard Sally Hansen drugstore fare), and buff my nails (with one of those 4/5 step rectangle buffers) to make them shiny and nice :)The nail lacquer I use typically reflects my mood 🙂

Alexis Avatar

i cut them short (bc of piano) so i clean them every night (get that dirt out since i do crazy p.e.) and sometimes clean with rubbing alcohol. ya know??

Brittany Avatar

Usually whenever my nail polish starts chipping, I’ll do a mini-manicure: remove old nail polish, push cuticles back, file to uniform length/shape, apply base coat, new color and topcoat. When I remember to, I’ll use a cuticle moisturizer of some kind.

Christina Avatar

I moisturize my hands frequently amd file my nails every time I paint my nails. I also always apply a base and top coat to my nails! 🙂

Lintjuh Avatar

Well..I’m trying to moisturise my nails a few times a week with lemony flutter from Lush. I just keep forgetting it.. But at least I try:P

Lulu Avatar

I tub on a thick layer of moisturizer on my hands before bed every night, concentrate on the cuticles area, and once a week use a cuticle cream. I also paint my nails whenever I have time, because I like to pick on my nails or bite them, so painting them w/ nail polish usually prevents me from doing so.

Mariah Avatar

Until about a month ago, I wore nail polish every day for about 2 years! I watch them very carefully, and file them with a glass file, use cuticle remover and most of all NEVER use my nails as tools!! (Quickest way to break ’em!)

I will polish them again when I get a new polish or get the ORLY Space collection. But since my long term boyfriend left me, I just can’t get myself to paint them.

Lyndsay Avatar

I think I’m horrible with really having any sort of care routine. Basically, I moisturize my hands with lotion…I try to keep my nails at a short (but not stubby) length. I ALWAYS have polish on them. They get a new coat of polish every 3-4 days, I’d say. I really should attempt to add in some kind of nail strengthening treatment. My nails peel real bad, always have.

Stephanie Avatar

I don’t really take care of my nails, to be honest. I moisturize my hands all the time, but really that’s just to take care of my dry skin. My nails are usually quite good.

Evelyn Avatar

i…dont LOL
theyre so abused from my acetone nail polish remover 🙁 theyre peeling!
i only use a base coat as a form of protection/care…lmaoo

TheChlobeast Avatar

I take vitamins, soak my fingers in olive oil, and rub my nails with witch hazel before painting. I only use acetone free Nail Polish Remover. 🙂

Molly Avatar

I use hand cream after every time I wash my hands, I do my nails usually about once a week, and when I do, I fix my cuticles, buff my nails, put on protein, then a base coat then a nail polish (sometimes with and sometimes without hardeners) and a top coat. I file my nails around once or twice a week to keep them at a reasonable (but still long :D) length.

Karin Avatar

I use Burt’s bees cuticle cream once a week and/or right before I paint my nails. I also use a hand lotion and massage it into the nail beds so that they feel soft and moisturized!

Ann Avatar

I’ve just started this whole new regimen (now that I feel like I’m gettin’ over the hill…38) of taking extra special care of my body. I make sure to watch what I eat, I’m learning new makeup techniques (thanks for the tutorials!), lotion myself from head to toe everyday, etc. I also decided to start taking better care of my nails. I’ve read several nail tutorials and found out I’ve been doing them WRONG for years!! I didn’t know you were only supposed to file one way! And what the hell “squoval” was! Anyway, I think this nail polish would look fab on my new hands. 🙂

Ann Avatar

I use Burts Bees cuticle cream salve stuff every night. Once a week I shape my nails and trim them if needed. I try to not let myself pick my nail polish when it starts to chip. I’m too lazy to do my nails more than about once a week. When I do I use the Zoya color lock system. I’m not 3-Free though because I’ve got too many non-3-Free nail polishes that I like.
This level of nail care is really great for me, because I am a chronic nail biter. I still fall off the wagon and bite them all off sometimes if I’m highly stressed, and then it’s hard to stop again, but taking care of my nails and having better looking fingers and nails feels a lot better overall. When I take care of my nails, I feel better about myself, and more in control of myself and my stress levels, since nail biting is a manifestation of me not being in control.

virginia Avatar

Ok So What I do To take care of my Nails? Well I first make My Own nail scrubber to Remove cuticles. Its a Mixture Between lemon juice, Granulated sugar and Green tea and I use a heavy duty towel or a scrubber. After that I dry my fingers and apply neoutrogina hand lotion. I wait for it to sink in and moisturize then I file them and buff them down. After that apply a base to protect my nails from getting yellow and if I’m in the mood ill paint them a funky color. Or ill just leave them to look natural. 🙂

McKenna Avatar

I set aside some time each week to give myself a full manicure(buffing, filing/shaping etc.)…this also gives me some time to just relax:)

Tiffany Avatar

I love giving myself a manicure every 3 or 4 days. I file and buff, then use a cuticle oil and scrub with true blue spa manicure in a minute scrub. I love sally hansen double duty base and top coat which works really well, and then my fave polishes!

sofia Avatar

Unfortunately i use nail polish most of the time if not all the time..but i use hand moisturizer and almond oil on cuticles so they aren’t dry;-)

Shannon Avatar

after washing my hands i always follow up with a lotion (nothing expensive, i just got the body and hand lotion from VS). otherwise my hands and cuticles are way too dry!

Sheena Avatar

I’ve been pretty bad about it recently just because I’ve had so much other stuff going on, but I usually try to moisturize a few times a day, and then use a cuticle cream and a heavier hand cream at night.

Brigitte Avatar

I take care of my nails by using a hand and nail cream that lasts all day. Then I absolutely have to use nail polish or else I’ll bite my nails. Yikes! If they’re in real bad shape, which happens even if I don’t bite them, manicure.

Jess Avatar

I don’t =( I do alot of physical work with my hands at work so its near impossible to keep a manicure looking fresh for more than 3 days. I try my best though!

I’ve been using Sally Hansen Maximum Growth on my nails since they started peeling a lot. Jin Soon Choi recommended it in an issue of People Style Watch and so far, so good.

I also use CND Cuticle Eraser a couple of times a day, try to moisturize often, and wear nail polish almost all the time, with just giving my naked nails a break & super treating them every couple of weeks.

I’ve been pretty bad about nail care just because I never really gotten into beauty care. I just made sure that if they were chipped that they were trimmed and if I wanted to paint them, just threw on some nail polish. Lately, I’ve been trying to keep my cuticles healthy and not cracked and peeling by using vaseline. I always make sure to use bottom and top coat now to help the polish last longer. Nail care is definitely a work in progress for me, especially since I like to let my nails grow out long (naturally).

o0Stacey0o Avatar

Obsessively moisturize with lotion and cuticle oil, buff, and always have a hardener on. ALWAYS. 98% of the time I have some fabulous color on too =) Remember to trim your cuticles, ladies!

Sarah Avatar

My nails are in such bad shape right now. they keep peeling i am currently trying to find the right vitamins to take to prevent it. Other than that i use strengthening base coats

JayJay Avatar

I have naturally very weak, short nails, no matter what I do. I take care of them by leaving them natural 95% of the time, and keeping them nice and neat. I do paint my toes though. They are never without polish 🙂

Amy Avatar

I moisturize my hands every day. I usually clip my nails once a week when I take off my nail polish. I have a buffer thing that I bought at a kiosk at the mall that I use on my nails about once a month to keep them shiny.

Mamavalveeta03 Avatar

I have a tube of thick shea butter hand cream by every sink in the house! I have to keep lotion on my hands, or my cuticles would be in terrible shape. Plus, I’ve given up my manicures for now to try and save $$$, so I’m doing them myself (eh…so so).

Erica Avatar

I really should take better care of my nails, but I use Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil whenever they are looking dry, and for my toenails I slather my feet in Vaseline Cocoa Oil then put socks on right before bed.

Jenny Avatar

I keep hand lotion, clippers, and a file at my desk at home or work so if I get bored and am tempted to pick at them, I just take care of them instead. Seems silly, but it really helps.

Vannie Avatar

After filing my nails, I’d buffer my nails. Afterwards, I would then put cuticle oil on my nails to help soften the skin around it. After letting the oil soak for a few minutes, I would then wash my hands and moisturize them. I’d always prep with a strengthening base coat follow by my nail color of my choice! Voila!

Kat Avatar

I put lotion on my hands a few times a day, and I always carry a hand cream with me. I rub C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve on them before bed, and I try to give them a break from polish when I can. I also buff them every 2 weeks or so.

Katie Avatar

I’m a low maintenance gal when it comes to my nail; they usually get a trim and filing, and a little olive oil as a nail treatment. I don’t often paint dark colors on them because they grow so fast that it would be hard to upkeep lol

Ms. Kitty Avatar

I do my nails every 3 days. I’m obsessed with them constantly being perfect. Everyone thinks it’s a tad weird..lol I also like to switch up the color. I use my Ms. Manicure set which is amazing, to scrub, buff, moisturizer, and shape them. Oooo and I love love love the Sally Henson 60 second gone cuticle gel. I make sure to do that at least once a week.

Kathryn Avatar

I file my nails regularly because they grow like weeds and I need to keep them short for school (in veterinary school, they need to be really short for surgery). I will buff them every once in a while. I use argan oil on my face and hair and whatever is left on my hands I rub into my cuticles/nails.

Doni Avatar

I make sure my nails are filed in a curved square so they don’t get jagged and get caught on anything. I make sure I keep my nails and cuticles moisturized so they are never dried out and become brittle. I use Almond Oil (from Whole Foods) at night to moisturize my hands and cuticles. I also do my own wraps because I do not go to the salons where they use the drill for everything! Ugh!! I hand file my wraps/gels.

Diega Avatar

I paint on Sally Hansen nail hardener every week and try to rest my nails in between polishes. I also get a manicure every 2 weeks, it’s so cheap here in the Philippines!

Ellen Avatar

My nails are horribly brittle and chip very easily, so I have to trim them down at least once a week. (I envy anyone who can grow their nails past their fingertips!) Every time I do a manicure I do the whole nine yards – filing, buffing, cuticle cream, etc. But sometimes I’ll go for weeks without doing this.

My nails at the moment are pretty deplorable…I need to get on that. 🙂

Violet Avatar

I really don’t do anything special for my nails – fortunately they grow in nice and strong! I use 100% acetone to remove polish and I cut them with nail clippers – I don’t own a file.

sarah Avatar

I usually give myself a manicure about once a week. If needed I will buff my nails and get ridge of any splitting or ridges, then use cuticle remover to make my cuticles looks nice. Then I file my nails into the desired shape I want. I apply a nail strengthener to keep my nails strong, then I apply a nail polish bonder to keep my polish from chipping off, then apply my polish!

Stephanie C Avatar

I give myself weekly manicures – cuticle softener/remover, the whole nine. Hand cream during the day, and a thicker one at night.
Love this polish!

suzieduck Avatar

i use handcreams whenever i remember, i have Lush lemony flutter for my cuticles. i actually have a habit of moisturising my hands n nails before i apply nail polish (but let the cream dry down first!). so far i do not have a chipping problem but i only wear a mani (base, color, color, top,) for about 5 days each time before my next change.

Reshmi Avatar

I keep my nails from chipping and growing strong by massaging with virgin coconut oil and seasame oil.I wear gloves when washing dishes.
I change my nail polish every three days.

Nikki C Avatar

i get manicures about once a month or 6 weeks and use neautrogena hand cream whenever i feel like my hands are dry
when i wash dishes, i ALWAYS wear gloves:D

Mel Avatar

I sort of don’t. I work in a labor field so I usually just keep my nails clean and trimmed and my hands moisturized. My toes are the ones that get the filing and the laquer and the love.

Deanna Avatar

How I take care of my nails: First of all, I always use a base coat when I paint my nails so they don’t stain. I try not to pick at my cuticles… haven’t been doing so well on that lately 🙁 At night I usually put on LUSH Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter, which helps my cuticles a lot! 🙂

Also I did all the stuff on Twitter.

Thanks! 😀

Hanna Avatar

Not much really. i am one of the lucky girls who are born with really noce nails that are super strong and look healthy all the time. They are always nice and white and never miscoloured, no matter how much I abuse them:)
So i just puch my cuticles down after I have been in the shower. That’s it.

Vanny Avatar

I actually never took take of my nails! Then recently I started to wear nail polish again and sort of noticed how ugly my nails were.
I started to buff them all nicely, apply a nail calcium hardener and polish on top!
I also apply some cuticle cream whenever my nails are dry.

Jennifer T. Avatar

I keep my nails filed down about medium length (whatever that means idk lol). I keep my cuticles pushed back always and change my polish about every 3-4 days (:

Keen Janine Avatar

I don’t do much with them. My nails naturally grow to a nice length without much fuss. I do use cuticle oil from time to time. I’ll give myself a manicure occasionally, but I work with what I was given.

Jazmine Avatar

I try to get a manicure when I feel like treating myself, and otherwise, I make sure to cut them regularly when they get too long and clean all the junk out of the nails from time to time.

Misty Avatar

I use Clarins hand and nail lotion every morning, afternoon, and night. It is the best hand lotion ever! I get manicures twice a month and I wear gloves when cleaning the house. Thanks!

Patti Avatar

I’m not very good with taking care of my nails – I do use a nourishing base coat, but I usually leave my polish on until it chips/peels away with the upper layers of my nails badly enough to need repainting. (about every 2 weeks) Strip and repeat the process!

Apple Avatar

I do regular cleaning and polishing. Not so much color because I want my nails to breathe. But if I have the MAC Jade Dragon Nail Lacquer, I’ll color my nails everytime! 🙂

Mara Avatar

Until recently I’ve been really bad at taking care of my nails. My nails are naturally thick and grow fast, so I never had to use strengtheners or anything. I’m a horrible cuticle and skin around my nails bitter but recently I’ve started using nail/cuticle creams and oils to try and help that.

Felicia Olson Avatar

I take vitamins for skin, hair and nails. I paint my nails on occasion. I use moisturizing hand lotions. And I use a strengthening nail polish remover and clear coat.

Stephanie Avatar

I try to keep my hands moisturized and I eat a healthy diet to ensure proper nutrition. I give myself a manicure every 6 weeks or so to keep my nails tidy.

Zenaida Avatar

My job requires gloves so it’s hard to take care of my nails, but I try to lotion them up as much as possible. I also use LUSH’s Lemony Flutter all the time. I’m not suppose to wear polish at work, but I sneak in a clear coat just to simply try and keep my nails protected a little.

Vale Avatar

I’m a big nail buff so I definitely always try to keep my nails in shape. Cuticle oil, hand cream and use a glass nail file. If I see nails split then I file my nails down to the split so it can re-grow stronger

Heli Avatar

I use a glass nail file to keep the shape of my nails and moisturise my nails and cuticles with avocado oil. Nubar Nu Nail keeps my nails strong, I use is as a basecoat or just by itself when I don’t use any colored nail lacquer.

Lrys Avatar

I put moisturizer on it sometimes but not regularly. I try not to use too much nail polish or nail polish remover so it doesnt dry out my cuticles!

Lolly Avatar

I soak my nails once a week for 5 minutes when I’m watchin T.V in Olive oil then file them into my desired shape for the week. The oil softens my cuticles and keeps my nails soft so they don’t dry out and crack. Then I pop on a fabulous colour over a neutral base coat and I usually get a good few days before chips appear and they have to be redone. I moisturise my hands ever night too.

Maja Avatar

I always have nailpolish on them, otherwise they tend to chip. I use the Lemony flutter cuticle butter from LUSH (I apply it in the evening) and I wear gloves when I’m cleaning with heavy-duty detergents.

Lils Avatar

I use a glass nail file to shape them and I use ‘1 minute manicure’ 2x a week. I use pure Shea butter on the nails and cuticles every night followed by a moisturizer. I use nailtek base and topcoat….so far been able to keep my nails long and strong. Also I put polish on them weekly 🙂 Thanks!

Luisafer Avatar

at least once a month I get a manicure, I buff them, guess that’s it…. the rest is nail polish on, nail polish off jajajajaja Love nail polish!!!

Kiwi.Cozy Avatar

I take care of them by keeping them at a moderate length, giving them a week or so free from nail polish every now and then, and keeping the tips filed. 🙂

Leslie Avatar

I get a mani once a month. In between my weeks I maintain my nails and use Vaseline Hand and Nail lotion. I’ve been using this Lotion for years and it really does help my cuticles not to mention it comes in a cute “girlie” pink bottle so it’s great to just throw in your bag! Love it!

Lize Avatar

I like to do a manicure about once every week or two weeks but I paint my nails almost every other day! I also use a handcream when my hands start feeling dry and I love using Lush’ lemony flutter on my cuticles 🙂

Hope Avatar

Mixing Honey, Lemon & Sugar.. i exfoliate my hands and cuticles, then using a deep moisturizing Shea Butter Cream and massage my hands..

I trim my nails to a square short shape and then file any rough edges..

I love applying “Mannequin Hands” type of colors.. Trying to get out of that though and apply some Blues and Greens, i feel there going to be so gorgeous this fall season 🙂

Thanks for the Contest Christine

Mary N. Avatar

My nails are a very great ascent of mine! I always use a base coat before I brush on the nail polish and never use a cheap and toxic nail polish!

Lauren Avatar

I try to take really good care of my nails. I dont like having long nails so i keep them pretty short. I love to change nail colors as much as possible but depending on what is going on later that week (work or labs at school) i’m careful picking colors for my nails

mica Avatar

i drink a lot of milk and use Vaseline healthy hand & nail conditioning… it may be the best hand cream i have ever used it make my nails so much stronger:)

Lauri Avatar

I’m horrible about taking care of my nails. They aren’t the greatest nails – wide and they spoon 🙁 But, they look decent with a nice coat of polish!

Gemma Avatar

Luckily I have short cutices luckily (yay!) and so I donpt care for them much but when they break I clip them. i file my nails quite short…comfort!
I use moisturizer mrning and night and once a month sleep with moisturizing gloves!!! =D

Amanda Avatar

I get my nails done once a month, and in between I’ll do my own nails to save money. Also, I always have a bottle of lotion with me because my hands are prone to getting dry.

Summer Saiedi Avatar

I cant afford regular pedis or manis so I use a nail block thingy that buffs and polishes. Then a good moisturizer such as H20’s hand and nail cream. It works soooo great, providing protein that reinforces my nails without leaving my hands greasy.

Claire Avatar

I think that using a moisturizer daily, and always trimming your nails are two great ways to keep your nails healthy. Also, I never leave my polish on too long because that can discolor your nails!

JASON Avatar

a very good way to get a beautiful nails, its having hidratation, because this make them softer but very strong a tip for this its put them Baseline before sleep this gonna protect the nail and hydrating at same time

eva Avatar

handcream thru out the day,and intensive nail growth oil or vitaminE oil on days when i change nail polish. i leave it bare for one night in between polishes

Meredith Avatar

I tend to always have polish on, because I have really weak and brittle nails. The polish makes the stronger. I do two manicures a week, and always use a moisturizing base coat, and cuticle cream.

Kapua Avatar

Iʻm all about designs when it comes to THESE nail polishes. I use them as little as possible to conserve, and I buy cheap nail polish wands to create pretty legit designs. My niece who isnʻt even in her double-digit age yet is pretty stoked on all 3 nail polishes that I have- and memorized them all by names. 😉 I hardly get mani/pedis (no $$ lol) so I end up thiefing my sistrens MAC nail polishes to do my own. Thanks so much 🙂

Fontaine Avatar

Hey I love your pictures!
I wash my hands and use acetone-free nail polish remover because aceton is damage to the nails. I use an exfoliating cream for my hands and trim them constantly and take viatmins to grow big strong nails.
Lol as you can imagine doing such a routine doesn’t always give me time to paint my nails but as soon as the Mac trand

I usually let them grow out until it becomes a hassle to type. When they get to a good length I usually paint them, since I think nail polish looks better when my nails are long. It also helps to prevent them from breaking too soon. (I cut my nails in a square shape, so breakage is common). When they get too long I cut and file them, and let them “breathe” until they grow a bit longer again. 🙂

Adela Avatar

I take care of them filing the edges, polishing the surface, moisturizing the nails and applying a base coat before color (two or three layers as needed). Finally, I apply a top coat and let them dry.

Jennifer G Avatar

Since I am a bartender and my hands are always getting wet, I have to give extra care to my hands. I moisturize throughout the day, use vitamin E oil on my cuticles at night, and give myself weekly manicures.

Misela Avatar

I try to give myself manicures every now and then, I also like to keep them very well moisturized. And I give my nails 1 to 2 weeks to rest from nail polish and acrylics.

Mirian Avatar

I,m luckily, because my nails are hard. I use a nail care balm every night, just before going to bed. Sometimes I paint my nails. I never get a professional manicure, I don’t like the idea that somebody cut my cuticles ¡Brrr!

Diana P. Avatar

I’m using nail hardener polish and gel with vitamines to make them stronger, I also try to wear at least a clear base so my nails won’t be “unprotected” during the days where I don’t wear any colours. I also do try to keep my nails always in shape by using a nail file

jesa Avatar

i use burts bees hand salve on the tops of hands and massage it in a bit on my cuticles – and rememeber to cut hangnails, not pull/yank them out or risk infection!! 🙁

Christina Avatar

My nail care regime:
1) Use lots of moisturizer
2) Use cuticle butter 2x a day
3) Give myself a full manicure 2-3x a week using a base coat, nail color and top coat
4) Never use nails as tools!

Vibrant170 Avatar

I use lotion all the time and make sure to always use a base coat so my nails don’t get stained with the nail polish and a top coat to protect them from chipping

Kat Avatar

LOVE this one. I do my nails weekly, and massage rose and myrrh oil into my cuticles nightly before bed.

Since my college focus of study is Imperial China, this collection was really interesting to me. I only wish I could get them all! 😀

Sarah W Avatar

I buff my nails and use a nail strengthener between polishes. I also use hand and cuticle cream to keep my cuticles moist and surrounding skin from peeling.

Ashley Avatar

Ugh I don’t take care of my nails at all. I’ve tried using Sally Hansen nail treatments but now I’m taking calcium pills to make my nails & bones stronger.

Sandra Avatar

Hi. I love nail polishes especially vibrant colors but I prefer to do my nails myself than go to the salon. I moisturize my hands and feet every night and give myself a manicure every sunday and a pedicure every 2 weeks.

Mimi Avatar

About once a week, I’ll give myself a mini manicure, using some hand moisturizer, a scrub, and one of the those four-sided boxy nail files that smooth, buff, and shine your nails.

Shannay Avatar

I take care of my nails by keeping them nicely cut and shaped, I always use a base coat so my nails dont’t get stained from the crazy colors and designs I do on them 🙂 I use hand moisturiser frequently

Alejandra Avatar

I moisturize every night and I use argan oil for my cuticles. I get my manicure and pedicure every two weeks. My nails grow fast and they are long so I have to trim them whenever they get too long.

Eme Avatar

I like to keep my nails short & manicured. Oils work great for the cuticles and I constantly use hand lotions to keep them from feeling too dry or brittle. Lastly, they always have an amazing color to spruce them up, especially gray lately.

WithIt Avatar

I TRY to take care of my nails, but I use my hands and wash my hands so often (at work) that they don’t look as nice as I’d wish. I love getting mani/pedis! Pedicures always last longer. Manicures usually chip within the first few days… which annoys me! 😉

Yuki Avatar

I don’t do anything to my nails. Whenever I use products on them, they turn yellow. When I don’t, people compliment me on my “French manicure”, even though I have absolutely nothing on ^^

Cat Avatar

I use a glass file. To keep them from drying out, I apply a salve to my cuticles before I remove my polish with non-acetone remover. I also wear moisturizing gloves to sleep every night.

Almus Avatar

I used to bite my nails not so long ago. Now I just simply can’t thank to nail polishes. I do hand cream three / four times a day, one of them at night with Karité. I also take care of my cuticles and try to keep them healthy, applying some special oil.

Grace Avatar

I try to keep my nails always painted and trimmed whenever I have the time to. I also moisturize often and put burts bees cuticle cream on them every other night.

Hannah Avatar

I use a hand cream every morning after I was my face. when I do my nails I use cuticle oil and trim my nails and use a strengthener as a base coat 🙂

Beenish Avatar

Strangely the same way I take care of my hair lol: by trimming the ends regulary or in other words, cutting them regularly. I dont really use moisturizers but my cuticles are actually never dry so Ive never needed to. I apply nail colour twice a week to keep my nails looking fresh and to prevent my own boredom with them:).

Quennie Avatar

I take care of my nails by trying not to use it as a tool, like opening something with it. I also do not bite my nails and I cut them regularly. I also file them everytime I cut them.

Lakitha Goss Avatar

I am very fortunate to have strong nails. I get a biweekly manicure. In between visits to the nail salon, I rub vitamin e oil into my nail beds.

Yesenia Nicole Avatar

A few ways i keep my nails and most importantly my cuticles moisturized is by washing my hands with Dove soap, then dampening my hands on a cotton towel (you should never harshly dry your hands on the towel, this causes lack of water moisture in your hands– Also the main reason for cracks in finger tips, etc). Second, I use ALBA Hawaiian Cocoa butter on my hands/fingers (I also rub excess lotion into my cuticles and nails). Third, i use Burt Bees Lemon butter cuticle Creme, it works great, you can use it for not only your cuticle, but also useful for “chapped” nails. I used it last winter and it showed amazing results for my horrible cracking cuticles and flaky finger nails.

Chaia Avatar

I use non-acetone remover for everything except hard-to-remove glitters. And I use cuticle oil to rub into my cuticles and nails so they don’t get too dry.

nihan Avatar

i give myself a manicure each week but if i don’t have time i change my nail polish at least. i also put hand cream frequently and before bed always!!

Indah Avatar

I love to take care of my nail. I use nail polish removers that are safe for your cuticles. I dip my nails in hot water when i don’t have nail polish on. i use special cream for my nails like moisturizers and i don’t bite my nails. Oh, and i don’t keep my nails long so they don’t break when i do sports. I’m trying my best to keep my nail healthy.

Ren Avatar

My nails are naturally pretty strong, but I try to take care of my cuticles and keep my hands soft and smooth. I file and buff them once every two weeks or so. i give myself manicures, and my nails stay polished most of the time. I do what I can to prevent and then treat staining if it happens. The soap I use for things like doing dishes is pretty gentle, and I always use gloves when I’m cleaning/scrubbing.

MsG Avatar

I massage cuticle oil onto my nails every now and then and also use a non greasy hand cream. But I do this usually before I sleep so that my hands and nails get max. treatment.

Mags Avatar

I bite my nails, so they aren’t in the best condition, but I usually apply Burt’s Bees Lemon Cuticle Butter all over my nail and nail bed, which I LOVE because it smells so good!

Elizabeth-Ann Avatar

I use a nail brush to clean out dirt and cuticle oil to soften. I also try not to keep my nail polish on too long without a proper base coat.

Nikki Avatar

Cuticle cream on the cuticles, cut and file them whenever needed and ALWAYS a fresh coat of nailpolish. I’m an instrumentalist and teacher so I try to keep them as nice looking as possible.

Sissi Avatar

I do a scrub once a week and a daily application of moisturizer. I always wear nail polish on my hands and feet, even if it’s just a clear one!!

vnssa906 Avatar

I recently bought Rosebud Salve at Sephora (loves it!) and I heard that applying it to your cuticules helps a ton.. and it HAS! they’re now softer and my skin doesnt peel off… also, I apply a nail hardener every morning 🙂

joanne w Avatar

I’m always wearing nail polish usually something from China Glaze to keep my nails from breaking and I file my nails down, I don’t cut them.

Monica Avatar

I love taking care of my nails and giving them little manicures. I always make sure they are evenly filed, and I take the nail polish off once it starts chipping on most nails, then I apply cuticle oil, and special polishes to restore and repair the nails. I try not to bite them as well, or get them too long.
