Natural hair Crown brushes, POSH and other drug store brands. The all go scratchy as the hair start to break down.
E.L.F. studio line blush brush..it’s kinda dome shaped..picks up little pigmentation..to soft, maybe its better for a gighlight.
MAC 129 – it’s so scratchy. I never use it anymore. Such a waste of money. I can’t wait to get a Hakuhodo blush brush!
What? I love that brush for a diffused blush look. Otherwise I always use MAC #116 brush. I wonder if you are washing it wrong? cause mine isnt scratchy at all.
I found this with mine too, even the ones in store.
Hakuhodo brushes are AMAZING! I loove them.
Quo! When I used to use this brush, my cheeks kinda hurt after like I swirled a brillo pad around my face. Okay maybe not THAT bad, but it is sooooo scratchy.
I don’t find it scratchy, but it sheds like mad
TheBodyShop blush brush..
+1, the do not pick product at all
Agree! Didnt pick up enough pigment.
Which one did you get? I got some synthetic bristle brush from the Body Shop, and I love it.
That Bare Escentuals blush brush (Forgot what it’s called)… it’s TERRIBLE! Like swiping sandpaper to your cheeks.
ABSOLUTELY! besides a crappy shape it actually hurts!
Yep, plus it smells yucky, even after many washes.
I totally agree, mine smelled like a dead skunk and the skunk had died years, maybe decades before I purchased this skinky brush, and even then, it wasn’t a good blush brush for it did buff in product well (I could have applied blush with my fingers and achieved a better blush application).
Agreed, I have redness on my cheeks already from capillaries close to the skin, but this brush made my cheeks so sore and red. Like Donna said, it smells absolutely HORRIBLE.
ELF’s $1 blush brush!
…all the bristles fell out before I got to use it.
Count your blessings….the bristles are really rough smh
I agree it’s like rubbing brillo on your face.
I recommend the studio line brushes from ELF; they’re much better in terms of quality and value. For $3 to $8, they’re absolutely wonderful. The essential line brushes – not so much.
I agree, it’s really bad…
el cheapo covergirl blush brush.
I could not agree more!
Me too…it sucks!
I hate to say it, but I’m having a really hard time with the MAC 109. I don’t know if I need more time to break it in, but the bristles are insanely stiff still, and very prickly, and uneven with color pick-up/placement. Hopefully I can make it work, but right now, I’d have to say it’s the worst(for me).
That sucks it didn’t work for you. You probably got a bad one. I love my 109, so soft and picks up color evenly because of the flat top. I bought 2 of them and they are totally different. The other one is so fluffy and the other one is stiffy and really dense. Maybe you should wash it more with shampoo and conditioner. It works for me. Good luck!
I love my 109, but I know that I can be kinda hard at first to break in. Have you shampooed it lately? If you’ve been cleaning and it’s still not soft enough, try soaking it in a little bit of conditioner. That usually helps my brushes feel nicer to the touch. Hope it works out for you!! 😀
I don’t think the purpose of this brush was ever meant for Blush. I use it for sculpt foundation or even a powder foundation. But it is too dense for blush. Try 129, 116 or even 168 (thats softer than a bunny)
I think you may have gotten a bad one, mine is the opposite, I just love it.
My sigma F40 is my least fav brush, it’s just way too fluffy to be any good 🙁 I never use it but lucky I have brushes I love that are awesome!
Ecotools blush brush. Picks up too much, doesn’t blend well.
Agree! I can never get it to blend nicely, and it deposits WAY too much pigmentation on the first swipe. Even if I first pat it on the back of my hand! 🙁
e.l.f.’s Blush Brush from their Essentials line (the one with the white handle). It’s too small, the bristles are not quite dense enough, and it’s just flimsy.
Funny that there is a link to Sephora as I’m putting their name down. ALL of their brushes that are dyed with black dye are completely awful! That dye never comes out, now matter how many times you wash it. It tains the color of whatever you’re putting on and that’s not cute when it comes to blush! Although the rest of their brushes are great!
I find that most drugstore blush brushes are pretty scratchy.
Speaking of blushes though Christine, if I have to buy one, should I buy Coralista or Sugarbomb? Or go with a more natural Korres 15?
They’re all so very different… I wear Sugarbomb all the time for everyday, but it doesn’t pack a TON of color.
I only have 2 blush brushes MAC 168 and MAC 129, worse of the two is 129 but it’s not too bad . I just never tried any other
Quo. I’ve had it for over a year and it still bleeds like crazy. Just too cheap to get a new one xP
Quo, Sephora, Joe never fail to disappoint me…you get what you pay for I suppose.
Sonia Kashuk … it sheds, its itchy, it distributes the product blotchy … eck!
Sonia Kashuk brush sets. Typically 5 of them for $20. But about half of them are crap; the brush heads came off from the handles. It’s a shame coz I reeaally like the individual ones from the same brand.
This happened with a couple of my SK brushes as well, the ones that came by themselves and not in a set, even. Everyone else seems to love these so perhaps I just got a couple duds in a row.
I’m not sure if it’s because I have the mini one, but I’m having a hard time with Bobbbi Brown’s blush brush.
Studio 35…worse than ELF,in my opinion.
Yeah those are some terrible brushes.
Ah drugstore brands here like Ever Belena or Nichido. They are soft but its not dense enough to use
ELF’s Contour blush brush (not the studio line one the regular line) Yuck!
The MAC 129 has a great shape and thickness but it is kinda of scratchy and worst of all IT SHEDS
The free brushes that always come in the drug store compacts… Love the products, but the brushes are dreadful. You can use that thing to scrub dishes.
Another vote for BE and ELF, both of them were horribly scratchy.
