i had a CHI, i LOVED it. i didnt think i needed a new one at all. i bought a GHD bc i got a good price. My expensive CHI is trash compared to the GHD. i know use my CHI to depot my eyeshadows! i had no idea what i was missing out.

rose Avatar

Hands down the GHD! My hair is very difficult to straighten and this iron had my hair pin straight, shiny and moving! It was the best damn $250 plus dollars I’ve ever spent. I kiss that thing more than my own husband lol j/k 🙂

Siledhel Avatar

I’ve had my CHI for four years now and never had any trouble with it. I love it!, it does everything and there was certainly a before and after in my everyday image when I bought it.

I’ve heard that they are not as good these days. A tech guy told me that they changed manufacturers, which is a shame.

Jamie Avatar

I also have had a CHI for about 5 years. I have no problems with it whatsoever. I love it. I prefer my hair curly so I use it more for curling that to straighten!

Jenn Avatar

Sultra all the way! I think its called the seductress the one that curls, waves, and straightens I have this and the ghd and chi and the sultra is the best so far! Its found at pro stores and sephora! I highly recommend it!

Tiffany C. Avatar

i wouldn’t say it’s the best but it’s my best (as in what i can afford) and it’s the CHI. But i so want a GHD!!! My stylist uses one and it’s AMAZING!!!

natalia Avatar

GHD…but mine broke and at the time I did not have the money to replace it so I got the Sedu Revolution and it works pretty well but def not as good in my opinion.

crystal Avatar

I agree. Obviously it is not as great as the all mighty ghd but for a cheaper alternative I think they are great. I have not had very good luck with the chi’s.

zoe Avatar

GHD. Nothing compares – even the salon equivalents.

couldn’t live without mine. in fact when my original pair broke after 6 years, i went out the same morning to buy a replacement!

Michelle Avatar

CHI… It gets hot in seconds and gets my hair perfectly straight or loosely curled in minutes… I have tried Conair and it made my hair look so frizzy, and I tried a Biosilk unit that took FOREVER to get hot, and even then my hair was never as straight…

Dini Avatar

I wish I could afford a GHD or a Chi. Unfortunately, I could only afford the drugstore Conair brand. But for the low low price I paid, I am very happy with it! It can be used on damp hair, heats up quickly, has a big range of temperature settings, and I’m not afraid to use it on the heads of squirmy children to tame unruly curls – the kids don’t need pin straight hair. 🙂

Mandi Avatar

Hands down GHD. There just isn’t any comparison. It’s worth the price. Even a counterfeit GHD that I bought on ebay is better than the CHIs I have, lol!

Courtney Avatar

I would have to say the Hai flat irons, they are pricey most are almost $250.00 but trust me they are worth it. The GHD doesn’t even compare to a Hai, we carry them at the salon I work in and I have seen a lot of different hair types come in and the Hai has done miracles on them all. Some of the stylists have had theirs for 5 years and they have not once shown a sign of wearing down (:

Jellytea Avatar

I LOVE my Hai. I have very thick, very long Samoan/Black hair and
i have killed many a flat iron, including the GHD. II use this when I want bone straight hair. I use the maxi-glide on more natural days.

Kristen Avatar

I love my Solia. It has adjustable temps from 140-450! I have very thick, coarse hair and it does a fantastic job. I’ve had it for several years and it still performs like new. I just can’t make myself drop a couple hundred on a flat iron. The Solia isn’t cheap but it won’t break your wallet either.

Christina Avatar

I too have a solia, I have had it for about 5 yrs and it is GREAT especially for the price. Before I bought my solia I was using the CHI and it burnt my hair. CHI’s are not worth the price.

Nic Avatar

I haven’t used a ton of flat irons, but I decided to splurge on a ghd earlier this year and I love it. The only issue I have with it is that it gets HOT on the outside very quickly. It does make my hair beautiful, though. 🙂

crystal Avatar

In my opinion and from others on here as well the chi’s do not last as long as the ghd’s. It is worth saving the money and investing in the ghd and having thay last you for several years instead of spending the 100 bucks and it not lasting quite as long putting you in the position to have to repurchase and having to spend the same amount of money in the first place.

Rachael Avatar

Paul Mitchell. It heats fast and has adjustable temperature. Also, I have dropped it, its gotten drenched in heat spray, and its been working hard for 2 years and it still works as well as the day I bought it.

nicci Avatar

I had a CHI for 2 yrs and noticed it was drying out my hair, especially the ends. It eventually broke. I then purchased a GHD and love it! My hair doesn’t feel dry or damaged.

Meghann Avatar

Chi small version that has Global Beauty on the front. I have had it for yrs and it gets my bone straight. This iron is all u need, if you’re not getting the results you think you should get, reexamine the products you use as well as what type of blow dryer. Everything makes a difference on the final result. Your shampoo, conditioner, serum/heat protectant, flat iron. Once you find the perfect combo, you’ll get salon results all the time.

I have tried Sedu, T3, and big Chi but the smaller Chi with Global Beauty on the front seems like it retains the moisture and gives your hair that shine. There probably is one better but right now, I am in no need to get a new one and I don’t want to gamble on a 200+ iron when the Chi is good enough. I would have to test it out first before spending that amount of money.

Kat Avatar

Hands down the GHD IV styler. It cost me a fortune, but it is so worth it! My hair is curly/frizzy almost to the point of being an afro, and straightens it so fast and well. I also use it t curl my hair about once a week.

Roxanne Avatar

I have an H2pro and it’s simply fantastic! It’s lasted me… 4, maybe 5 years so far? I had one before it, but had to get another one because the cord had issues. The first one still lasted about 2 years. I think it cost around 200 on sale.

Elizabeth Avatar

CHI. I don’t really need anything more because my hair is already nearly pin straight, I just use mine to flatten out kinks or the occasional wave (and sometimes to curl my hair).

LU Avatar

I use a maxius that works great. It was 100 bucks I think. I’ve tried a ghd before and I hated it, it totally fried my hair. But that was over two years ago so maybe if mine ever breaks I’ll look into ghd again.

ericka Avatar

I love my HAI flatiron! It heats up within seconds, has adjustable temp, great price (averages around $80 bucks) and leaves my hair shiny and straight with just one pass (FYI- I am African-American with thick, coarse hair)! And when I say straight, I don’t mean “kinda straight”. I mean straight!

Britte Avatar

Sedu 1 1/2 inch model, hands down! It’s better for your hair because of the really smooth black plates. It has adjustable temperatures, heats up suuuuper fast, and is less expensive (last time I checked) than the GHD. I’ve had mine for three years! And on folica.com it comes with a warranty! 😀

iluvmidge2 Avatar

GHD!!!! BY far superior to any othersI have tried compared to CHI and Sedu! This keeps my naturally thin/curly/dry hair straight for days, no frizz even after sleeping on my hair overnight!! Also it straightens sooo fast, in just one pass(!) and doesn’t damage my hair when used with a protectant(Redken Smooth + Anti-snap), whereas the CHI FRIED my hair after using it for a couple weeks only every few days (and I used heat protectant of course!) LOVE MY GHD!!!

aradhana Avatar

thanks for asking this christine! i am on the market for a new straightener and my automatic reaction was ghd but it’s good to see the other options…i wish this was a poll! LOL…:)

Janelle Avatar

The HairArt h3000 is by far the best! Had a Chi Turbo that died after 3 yrs. Purchased a Sedu which is garbage! Fried my hair! Got the HairArt on folica.com for $60 & I love it!

victoria Avatar

i was going the say the same thing, lol. i have thin hair and just need to smooth fly aways and do simple curls and wave and i’ve been using T3 for 5 years and it hasn’t failed me. i was curious about GHD but since i’ve have no complains with my old one, why replace it.

Janet Avatar

I love my GHD! It’s a bit pricey but worth it! I’ve had mine for 2 years and it works as great as the day I bought it. The investment is worth the quality.

kenzie. Avatar

Chi Turbo 1.5 inch.

I have curly, thick, coarse hair and nothing does as good a job as this straightener!! I’ve used the regular Chis, GHDs, Coroliss, and Sedus, and this one definitely does the best job for me.

Lowie Avatar

it seems as though everyone is a GHD fan but i’ve been through too many super expensive flat irons that don’t work. My friend has a GHD but I’ve never been super thrilled with it…maybe it’s just her fault though, a little too much abuse perhaps? My favorite flat iron is my Paul Mitchell iron, the best I’ve ever had by far!

Lolo Avatar

by the way, I have a T3 featherweight hair dryer that has lasted longer than any dryer I have had, expensive or inexpensive, and it is the best one i have ever used.

Brooke Avatar

corioliss! I’ve has it for 6 years, and it hasnt ever failed me!
I got this at one of those stands in the mall. If one of those people want to try it out on you, let them! I have really really curly hair, and its pin straight!

Remington ‘Wet 2 Straight’ Straightener is THE BOMB! It’s $21 at walmart.. but i got mine at a garage sale.. for only.. $1. It works wonderfully & is one of the best, i honestly don’t like The CHI one at all. This remington one is amazing! Even the one before this one was from remington. If you want a good straightener for a low price go for the Wet 2 Straight. 🙂

shuz4ever Avatar

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Remington Wet2Straight. My sis who lives in UK first got me hooked on the brand 6yrs ago. I now own 2 of them, the more expensive broader plate professional model from UK and a slimmer one from Target that i got for just 28$. Earlier i had a Babybliss, but i like the Remington ones better…instant straight hair that doesn’t curl/frizz up.

Ashley D. Avatar

I like my Toni & Guy one, I’ve had it for 3 years, and I’ve dropped it a few times, but it still heats up very quickly – in about 2 minutes it gets hot. It’s light and it wasn’t even that expensive, I got it for half off, I believe I bought it for $60.

K Avatar

I’m oldschool and still love my CHI which I got for $69.99 CDN on sale at the time! It works as good as the first day! When it became popular, the price skyrocketed.

Catherine Avatar

Ozon titanium flat irons. I’ve had GHD, both pairs broke (they seem to do that a lot). I’ve had t3’s and I can say the ozon’s are cheaper and do a much better job.

Paz Z. Avatar

SEDU ALL THE WAY! I have the thickest coarsest hair you can imagine, with out it being an afro. My sedu smooths it all down in a matter of 15 minutes! Results are perfect!

Jennifer Avatar

SOLIA
best flat iron that I’ve ever owned, and believe me I’ve been through my share.
It leaves my hair shiny soft silky and vibrant every time. I have never had a problem with mine and I’ve used the same one for over 2 years.
Heats in seconds and goes to about 475.
And for most girls that have to put a thousand heat protectants in their hair i put none, and my hair has NEVER been dry, nappy or fried.
you might want to try it out. very inexpensive.

Liz Avatar

Remington Wet 2 Straight works wonders for me. My hair is very long and it’s also curly. I have used many flat irons and this one works for me. I’m just worried that with using flat irons so much it might burn or damage my hair… Especially my ends, but so far so good. It’s been a year now and my hair looks beautiful! 🙂

Elizabeth Avatar

If you want something that’s not cheap, but not way too expensive, and is better for your hair I would say Sedu 1 1/2 inch plates. It is absolutely the best! GHD and the Chi are great, but NOT worth all that money. I say it from experience. I was desperate to find a great Iron, so I purchased a Chi and it was good… Later I wanted to see what the big fuss was about with the GHD and worked great too, but nothing out of this world. My best friend owns a Sedu with 1 1/2 inch plates I tried it and guess what? It did a way better job than the Chi and GHD. I’m hooked! 🙂 I own 1 and it’s amazing on my long curly hair.
