What brands do you love that you feel are underrated?
What brands do you love that you feel are underrated? Different? Share!
I want to say Guerlain and Burberry, but I don’t really know if they’re underrated in the truest sense of the word. Oh, Hourglass!
Thanks to Sammy for today’s question! Got a question idea? Submit yours here.
Hourglass of course!! I’m trying to buy the whole line!! Chane, only because I feel people find it overrated and that it’s just a lable but I really lobe the quality of their products
la mer face products such as concealer, foundation, powder and most famous….their moisturizer!!!!!
I really like Bissu its a brand sold in mexico i love the pigments, and its very inexpensive =)
Bissu Lipsticks have the worst staying power.
nars… well i feel like it used to be, but not anymore!
idk about brands but a product I NEVER hear about it the too faced papa dont peach blush that I am absolutely obsessed with but I never hear anyone talking about it
pixiwoo talked about it once 🙂
Face Stockholm. I really think Gosh is pretty damn good for drugstore makeup but you can only get that in Canada and outside the US.
Just an FYI, you can buy GOSH cosmetics online and have it shipped in the US. I’m dying to try them out!
Giorgio Armani in terms of swatches, reviews, ratings… I love their stuff and don’t see enough of it on makeup blogs!
I agree! I can never find it anywhere on the web.
i agree…
I’d have to say E.L.F., although over the last few years they’ve been getting a lot more press. I’ve been using their products for about 10 years. Their newer Studio and Mineral lines are also great. Also, their brushes (studio line) are supersoft and surprisingly well made.
I agree about the studio line. Especially the brushes. I haven’t tried the mineral line but really want to
AGREE. I have 3 studio ELF brushes.. love love love them.
I really like NYC Cosmetics. I like their lip sealer, eye colors, and lip liners which I use as lipstick. They are quite underrated in a few areas, I don’t see them mentioned online much at all.
I love NYX cosmetics. Their Ultra Pearl Mania shimmer powders and eyeshdows are pretty. they’re what I’d call affordable as apposed to cheap.
I totally agree! They’re glosses and lipsticks are equally as great!
I think that Flirt! Cosmetics is an underrated Cosmetic line. Awesome product at inexpensive prices.
thebalm ): they’re really good.
Bobbi Brown!
Most definitely Bobbi Brown.
Shu Uemura… Everything they have is gorgeous and all you really hear about is their lash curler.
To the point where they aren’t even going to have any physical stores in the USA anymore
inglot! ohhhh inglot. my heart is aflutter over so many of the products and so few people appreciate them! high quality pigments and shadows for a low price and some very decent foundation yes pleeeease.
I LOVE inglot too! So underrated.
Korres Natural Products. Their shower gels, body butters and lip butters are fantastic. I also love Jonathan Product hair products. They’re mostly vegan, they smell wonderful, and they make my hair much more manageable.
I love Korres too! In addition to the products you’ve mentioned, I’ve tried the bronzer and really loved it.
Julie Hewett LA, every review is all about her lipsticks. But there is so much more to the brand, great eyeshadow palettes.
Clarins another brand so under rated. Now their foundation shades are not the greatest choice but the mascaras I always found as good as say Clinique the blushes and eyeshadows too.
Beauty-wise or fashion-wise?
For beauty, I would say Korres and Anna Sui cosmetics!
Fashionably..american rag, hurley, we the free, and classy ol’ tommy hilfigher! 😉
not sure if this counts as a brand, but i would say argan oil for ends of hair, fingertips, face, body…
TheBalm, LORAC, Bourjois, and Napoleon Perdis!!!! & Shu Uemura.. sort of 😉
Badger Balm
I love the Highland Mint lip & body balm
I would say its ELF. Although the packagings are super cheap and so as the price (which is a good thing, haha), their one dollar make up quality is fantastic. For ex, the one dollar eye brushes, the eyeshadow palettes and the blushes. Amazing stuff!
Inglot Cosmetics. Not a lot of people blog about this brand 🙁
I’ve never heard of this brand. Where can it be found? Thank you.
Dianne Brill! Both the packaging and the lingerie inspired product names are cute, with the products being top quality as well. I especially love their lip glosses and foundations.
in austria we have a brnd called “catrice” and it’s my love. i think you can also get it in ireland.
Smashbox – great products. They’re very underrated in australia
very underated in NZ too! But I think they are good too… not too expensive but good quality.
Kanebo,Vincent Longo, and Darphin…
I would agree if it wasn’t for their awful price, which plays an important role in rating a product, as well. I got used to paying for Chanel and I’m interested in a couple of Guerlain items, but really, their price league is still quite something else.
Givenchy! they have a collection of fantastic blushes, powder and anything that is a pencil! lol
bourjois:) love their powder eyeshadows and lipglosses
I love laura geller and I don’t hear many people talk about it! She has SUCH a good line!
Ben Nye – technically theatrical products, but their eyeshadows/powders are super pigmented, blend well, and last all day/night
This is a great question. For hair, I think Pureology doesn’t get enough love. Their nano shampoo and conditioner are amazing!!
For makeup, I think Mary Kay doesn’t get enough love. The skincare is great and her lipglosses.
Also, I know everyone raves about Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer but has anyone tried Bobbi Brown’s EXTRA tinted balm? Gives the skin a fresh dewy look!
Palladio cosmetics needs love too! I love their rice paper oil blotting papers and translucent rice powder.
Totally agree about Pureology. Their Nano line is my HG shampoo and conditioner!
Second that. Also Graftobian and Kryolan. Great quality products at such reasonable prices.
le metier de beaute, vincent longo, ellis faas, shu uemura
Make Up Forever and Cargo!
I am a big fan of Too Faced, and I feel like it doesn’t get enough love! I especially love the eye shadow Duos like Rich Bitch, Lucky Charms, and Skinny Dip. Mess in a Dress and Blonde Ambition are beautiful single shadows as well!
Brands that I feel are underrated are:
– Stila
– Lorac
– Clinique
I think NUBAR nail polish should get more love
I would have to say GOSH products. I’ve loved anything I’ve gotten from their makeup line.
Definitely Lorac! Their eyeshadows are the best I’ve ever used!
Shiseido…in USA that is. They have the most beautiful products but are just not so much into the limelight!
Bourjois. I love their eyeliner.
Stila! Their color selection for lips and eyes is fabulous, as are their formulas. Almost everything they have looks pretty on me, lasts all day, and is a pleasure to work with.
Thanks Christine! Yeah Estee Lauder for sure. Beautiful lipsticks as well as foundations. I think people associate it with grandmothers or something but grandma’s know their thing or two. 😉
Sammy – I was JUST going to write this, and then saw your comment. Estee Lauder is definitely underrated – wonderful powder, and lipsticks in truly lovely colors. I began using this line when I was 21, and at 49 have still never found a better pressed powder than her Lucidity.
Estee Lauder is awesome! I remember going through 3 tubes of China Red lipstick. I just discovere it’s eyeshadows, too. Soo buttery and pigmented. The lipstick formula is non-drying. I always wonder why noone pick this brand and talk about it.
Agree! I love Estee Lauder mineral powder and lipstick!
SUGARPILL COSMETICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)
http://www.sugarpillshop.com/
Shu Uemura for sure. Their eye shadows and lipsticks are amazing.
P.S. Honestly, compared to MAC everything is underrated. I do not have anything against them, they have good basics, but to me they are absolutely uninspiring.
INGLOT!!!!Amazing makeup!
Sugarpill and Lime Crime!
The E.L.F. Studio line! I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to cheap makeup products, but I decided to give the Studio line a go. I ended up loving everything that I’ve tried. Especially their brushes, lip glosses and blushes.
The little guys like Lumiere (great foundations and mineral eyeshadows) and Meow Cosmetics. I think these two companies changed my life.
Rock & Republic! I am sooooo in love with their blushes it’s not even funny!
I’m also a huge fan of Kryolan but I don’t hear much about them, aside from Aquacolor.
Shu Uemera! I wish ppl would of caught on more, too bad its now leaving the states…
Shu Uemura
NYX can be underrated sometime. I like their blushes. MAC blushes leave alot to be desired sometime. I wear dessert rose on the cheek and pecan as a hilight. Really cheap and pigmented.
Estee Lauder always seems to be viewed as a “nana” brand, which I think is really unfortunate – they have some really lovely products, Pale Moon and Mocha Cup e/s are a couple of my favourites and the Signature Hydra Lustre and Pure Color Crystal lipsticks are wonderful too. The new Double Wear pencils are fan-frigging-tastic and the latest Tom Pechaux glosses are very beautiful as well. It’s a very wearable range.
TheBalm – blushes and e/s in particular are also amazing quality. Just This Once Jamie might be my favourite eyeshadow ever, in the whole entire universe! I love it so much and the Shady Lady palettes are fantastic value as well.
theBalm is totally underrated. Barely ever mentioned and is just a tiny section at Sephora. Impressive quality and great range of colors and products. And of course, adorable packaging!
Merle Norman… They have amazing long lasting foundations and the lip sticks and brow stuff is great, not to mention eyeshadows last a long time and are beautiful colors that wear well.
I just came upon a brand from Italy called Kiko Cosmetics. I absolutely adore their colour sphere eyeshadows! It’s sold in Italy, Spain and Germany. They have a website though: kikocosmetics.com. In Holland they also sell Catrice and Essence, good products, very cheap!
Viva La Diva! :3
Milani and Sugarpill HANDS DOWN
Josie Maran, i love her eyeshadows!
PALLADIO!!!!!! It’s love. Great quality products. Lip products smell so yummy. Their lipglosses are comparable to MAC cremesheens. One of my new fave lines! And it’s drugstore 😀
Cargo, TheBalm, & Ben Nye don’t get enough attention. All people talk about is Mac…
Bare Escentuals
I saw a few I was thinking already, but one that I haven’t seen mentioned is Sue Devitt. The electric sheen eyeshadow in madurai is my favorite yellow of all times.
Clinique! The eyeshadows and lip colors are fabulous, as are all the foundations and concealers. Quickliners are my HG top eyeliners, can’t live without them, want every color.
Another line I think more people should know about is a mineral makeup e-tailer called Silk Naturals. Love it!
laura geller!!
Physicians Formula. I stay away from their liquid products, but eye shadows, blushes and powders are excellent.
The Balm and GOSH.
Palladio is definitely underrated! I love their products and they’re easy on the pocketbook.
rimmel
Shu Uemura. i honestly dont know why they were so underrated at States!
I really like Lise Watier, a french Canadian brand. Love their new blue collection!
Make up:
– Bourjois (gloss, eyeshadows)
– ArtDeco (www.artdeco.de) produces great concealers, eyeshadowbase, eyeshadows.
SkinCare: Lumene is pretty nice for its price (Finland). As I know they are currently presented in the US.
Inglot, Gosh, Napoleon Perdis!
Lorac…I have tries so many mac shadows that are hard and have no pigmentation…my lorac and smashbox shadows are so much better. Also never hear about clarins nice foundations.
i agree with you christine…i think guerlain is an awesome brand but i think so many people are quite intimidated to try this brand because of the PRICE!!!its really steep, but in my own experience the brand is worth is..i cringed at my first rouge g lipstick but after comparing it to other brands in my collection..its totally worth it!!!!
Definitely Tarte. I fell in love with the brand after purchasing their epic holiday palette, the Tarte Treasure Chest. Wonderfully pigmented shadows, very lovely blush/bronzer/highlighter, and high-shine lip glosses. On top of that, all natural. 🙂
I bought their cheek stain, and I’m in love with the product.
victoria secrets new makeup line-love their e/s singles and lipsticks.
hard candy- love their mineralized blushes/bronzers and li[psticks.
bare minerals/essentuals- i have almost every set they have come out w/ for the last 2 years-i love how your makeup combo is right in their kits.
i will always love my mac- but thats not underated. =)
smashbox and lorac e/s/blushes! no one ver talks about them .
Estee Lauder and Lancome, I think people see these as older brands but I love them.
I love Clarins but they are dull even for me, they need a lil spruce for their image.
I LOVE Victoria’s secret makeup! The foundation is a perfect match for me and shows up amazing in photos! Even better than MAC. Mascaras and blushes are prefect. I just feel they are over looked because they are a store brand and not just a cosmetic company.
Glad a few are saying GOSH – I love their stuff.
The lip glosses & soft n shines are gorgeous & their effect powders also. I also use a lot of their brushes which are suprisingly good
Revlon all the way for lip products.
Brands that carry skin-care products that are organic like Korres, Neobio or Lavera.
NYX and Becca cosmetics.
Maybelline, for sure ! Not everything is awesome, but I feel like some people buy or hear about ONE not-so-good product and decide that, beacuse it’s cheap, it must suck completely. Not one brand in the world is perfect on every product !
Studio Gear. Fabulous foundations/powders, great lipsticks and shadows, not to mention brushes that are right up there with MAC if not better sometimes.
Bourjois and La Roche Posay.
Bourjois: good eyeshadows and lipglosses.
LRP skincare is great, good relation quality/price, they have a good sunscreen for oily/comb skin(high PPD, matte finish and does not melt under high temperatures). They also do make up, but I never tried. I have heard good things about it, especially about their blushes. It is on my wishlist.
Idk if it’s been mentioned, but I’m going to speak about Sugarpill! Their eyeshadow in Bulletproof blows Carbon & MUFE’s black out of the water. It has almost a creamy texture and it blends like no other. Plus the owner is a doll and my package came covered in ice cream stickers and she signed my receipt as” Thanks Chris! <3 Amy" Can you say customer satisfactionnnn?
