Shimmer on lips and eyes. Metallic/ front finishes.
welp, I want none of those things. Oh well. I definitely agree, though, I was in Sephora today and SO MUCH SHINY STUFF.
Same! I can see it coming and I am NOT looking forward to it.
I don’t want to harsh anyone’s enjoyment of anything, and I like a shimmery eyeshadow as much as anyone, but other than that, it’s just not a look for me. I just want new fun stuff I’ll like, too!
Well, you, me and a few others definitely called it last time this question got asked awhile back: frost, metallic and more glossy finishes. And here we are. I definitely believe even more luminescent goodies are a coming!
For my next pick: 80’s blush and face color placement will make a comeback, I believe. Just goggle ‘Grace Jones’ for a general idea of what I’m talking about. Along with some of the the other almost sci-fi types of product use and placement.
You are probably right about the 80’s blush. I’ve seen Wayne Goss talk about it recently so somethings in the air.
*Highlighters in non-traditional colors – brands are going to see the huge interest in ABH Moondust and launch their own versions
*Bold colors are back – after years of 50,000 shades of brown, brands are finally launching colors ( UD Spectrum, UD Moondust, KVD Serpentina, KVD Metal Mattes, MAC Banging Brilliant, MAC Chris Chang, MAC Trolls)
*Metallic Lips
*Red shadows – ABH Modern Renaissance, Colour Pop Kae Pop & Jenn IM , Chanel Fall 2016
I hope you’re right Katherine. I’m kicking myself for missing Illamasqua Daemon and Sugarpill Love+. I hope we see more red-infused browns, too, especially in mascara.
There is a cashier at my local grocery store who, for years, has been wearing red eyeshadow, red liner, very “avant garde” stuff (her whole look is like that) and I have always found it odd and distracting. She’s an attractive young woman but that red liner just always looked so jarring. Lately I’ve been seeing a few women wearing green lipstick and, to be honest, I don’t see the point because while it might attract attention, it doesn’t seem to be because it looks good but because it just looks weird (I’ve seen/heard some of the reactions of passers by).
Too each their own I feel powerful and beautiful in my Bite Kale. Like something mythical
I wish I could carry off the red shades of shadow but with my coloring I just look strung out…not an attractive look. The closest I can get to that is using a very warm, light brown/orange to buff out my transition shade.
I think purple and green highlighters might hit mainstream hard, especially if one of the kardashians does it. they’re making blue lipstick normal. ABH and Jeffree Star and promoting interesting highlighters so I think there will be a big push for full glam. agree on high shine, metallic / frost and full coverage.
Yes, however you might feel about the Kardashians personally, they are trend-setters. The makeup companies can’t live without them. Kim K. is the face that launched a thousand highlighting, contouring, and strobing products. And Kylie Jenner’s lips have launched another thousand lip products
Satan, definitely. Satan is VERY “in” right now.
Metallic lips and eyes, and when the highlighter trend dies down a matte face.
As Christine said, all shine, glossy and metallic.
The new trend is always the thing that I am just about to throw away from my stash because it’s sooo not “in”.
I read a piece the other day that was written in 2014 warning against mixing different glittery products because the size/type of glitter will be different and the look will end up too teenage + drugstore. Just the other day Sephora sent an email that was showing a look made up of different brands of glittery eyeshadow that celebrated the no-no from 2014.
That’s quite the turn around in 2 short years!
Looks like it’s going to be colorful highlighter – the rainbow trend, Jeffree Star’s minty green, Anastasia’s latest purple ones, if nail polish and lipstick can turn to wild colors – it’s not much of a stretch, LOL!
I definitely think frost/metallic lips are coming back, along with a shift back to glossy finish instead of the super-matte look that has been reigning for the past few years. I have to wonder if a softer eye look is coming, too, since the heavy, smoky eye has dominated for so long now- but I don’t know exactly what the new direction would be.
I know everyone is going to be out here calling for the highlighter bubble to pop, but I’m not ready to let go! I have enough to last me until the end of times – can’t stop my shine, lol!
I’m definitely seeing a return of the high shine glossy lipglosses as opposed to all the matte liquid lips
That makes me so happy! Metallic lips look great on me, and I never quite let go of frost and shimmer colors. I got two metallic lipsticks from the UD Vice collection.
Navy blue blush? White mascara? Patterned metallic highlighter? Icy gray lips? Silver and gold brow gel? Sequin eyeshadow ($glue is extra)? Purple contour? Lipstick stuffed into earrings, necklaces and nose rings? Click open mirrored bangle filled with hidden eyeshadow, lipstick and liner touchups?
(I had fun with this, but. . .)
It’ll be like Effie Trinket is the new Makeup Messiah!
Haha! We’re probably only a few seasonal collections away!
We can only hope!
How about tiny LED lights for eye lining — pick your fave color! (Okay, I’ll quit! Lol.)
I think we’re headed to more full-on glam with a balance of classic and futuristic. Think doll lips and cheeks with strong highlighters and unconventional eye looks to keep it a little edgy. And, I agree, foundation seems to be heading back towards full-coverage, which is almost required to make certain looks work. It will be interesting to see which beauty houses can master full-coverage foundation in a wide shade range. You need a very close skin tone match to make full-coverage work. Fun question!
You are so correct about full coverage being required for a lot of the stuff you mentioned
I for one welcome our new frost/metallic overlords.
I suspect brows will go thinner again soon, which is a shame for those of us with naturally fluffier brows. 🙂
Lovin’ the return of metallic/frost/ glossy…but I will NOT do those barely there brows EVER again. Finally got them to grow in nicely, they’re staying! ?
I’d also suspect it’s just a matter of time before people feel looser about redrawing their lip and brow contours (think Jean Harlow, etc).
Body makeup seems to be having a moment again!
And people seem to be embracing unconventional colors a lot more readily (is blue lipstick finally mainstream?), and it seems like cosmetic surgery or enhancement is everywhere.
The Chanel runway show featured a stenciled on eye shadow look which was really cool. It was unexpected. I don’t know about upcoming trends but I would like to see more good skin care components incorporated into makeup so that I get the benefits of skin care while wearing my makeup.
Agree with glossy lips, or at the very least a move away from matte lips, which I am so not a fan of. Red and orange toned eye shadows. Less contouring or at least much less obvious (paint-by-numbers, spackle-heavy) contouring. More natural brows. Please die, Instagram Sharpie brows!
I’m thinking chrome will be the next new thing. Taking metallic lips and foil shadows to the next level, chrome lips and eyes will be silver, shiny, mirrorlike. Now to wait and see if I called it.:)
Frosted Lipsticks. I for one am tired of seeing dry looking matte lips. I love a matte lipstick but many liquid lipsticks just make people’s lips look dry. That and these dark campy brown and black lip colors. I think we’re going in the opposite direction with more color and shine.
I agree!
Agree on the lips!! Enough with the matte. Very aging, after a certain age! Subdued frosts (but not metallic) are more plumping. But the glosses are too much of a good thing. Bring back the cremes and frosts – lose the liquids and mattes.
– Glitter!
– Frosty lips.
– Rainbow highlighter, it’s indie brands making those at the moment but I wonder if more mainstream brands will pick that up?
– I think bold brows are going to fade, I don’t think it’s a sustainable trend, I personally don’t like the fake eyebrows look ? lol.
Metallic definitely which I’m iffy about. I’m almost 34, work in a corp office….I can get away with BiTEs Kale but too much metallic and i’ll be a bit too bright. lol Plus it’s just so shiny….
As long as lining the lips with black liner doesn’t come back…I’ll accept anything.
Metallic lips.
I’ve personally been loving the the frosty lips and metallic eyes. I think ABH’s newest glow lot in Moonchild is the start of an even newer trend. Outer-space, galactic, irridescent colors will be used in non-traditional places. Can’t wait! I feel like the 90s are making a come back. Someone should collab with Lisa Frank!
I’m kind of glad about more metallic or shimmer finishes…I never was able to go fully matte…I like a softer, glowy look.
I agree with the sparkle and metallic ideas. I think shiny lips will also return. Just more glow and color in general. Fun.
I’ve no idea but I’m sure it will be the polar opposite of what the beauty industry has had us spending on in the past few years so my guess will be lots of bright, almost garish colours and very glittery textures, signalling the end of the “neutral eye palette” (and then, in 3 years, bright colours will be passe and neutrals – with a new name – will be back).
We’ve had the same trend for a while now… and I think it will continue. It’s taking every aspect of makeup and making it more extreme. Obvious makeup, that’s what’s in. We’ve covered the lips, brows, contour and highlight, I think we’ll see bold blush and eyeshadow next.
Someone had mentioned the Glow Kits and rainbow highlight, and I thought they were talking about them as being one and the same. Then it occurred to me that someone might actually be doing “rainbow highlight”, so I Googled it. WOW. That’s definitely taking a product to a whole new level!
I am seeing a lot more shiny, glossy lips and that makes me happy!
Yes I think there will be more shimmer – lips, eyes and cheeks with the highlighters.
I’d like to see dry, matte lips trend over with; more luminous, shimmer lips trend would be welcome as are strong color but sheer lips (a la Guerlain’s recent offers). A fan of ABH Modern Renaissance palette, I like idea of warmer-to-red eyeshadows, and sign me up for red-infused brown mascara! Metallic highlighters are not for me, but I’d expect this trend to continue a bit more. I’m always happy to see sparkle around the holidays, which aren’t so far off.
It definitely looks like shiny, glossy, glittery, and metallic finishes are cropping up again. I know I’ve certainly had my fill of matte everything. Red eyeshadows are showing up all over the place. Also, brightly colored mascaras. It also looks as though 80s-style contouring with blush is going to make a comeback. It should look better with modern blush formulas, I think.
I guess I’m not surprised at how the pendulum swings. We’ve just about “matte-d” everythingthing that could possibly be “matte-d”. Thank goodness that trend is taking wings! Other than nail art, the matte look is one of the most unattractive looks I’ve ever seen on ANY woman.
Non neutral highlights. I am a fan I only like funkier highlighters otherwise it justs looks like sweat, gross,
I think abstractly the trend is towards VARITY. im thinking about the amount of new vice shades from Urban Decay, and how many brands are expanding shade ranges of shadows and lipsticks and such
I’m happy about the lip trends, I love shine on my lips.
So last time, when you asked which trends we did NOT want to revisit, I said the brown blushes and lipsticks of the 90s. Now I see we’re revisiting the lipsticks – Charlotte Tillbury introduced one shade a few months ago, and now Tarte has introduced several. I can only hope the blush doesn’t come back! So unflattering. Women of a certain age will recall that the 90s trend was actually a reprise of the 70s. Anyone remember Revlon’s Foxy Brown? I have been looking for the lipstick and nail polish ever since (it was a creme formula, not a matte!!). Any ideas? It’s not on the Revlon site or any of the others. In fact it doesn’t even come up in a search. Thanks!!
Glossy, shimmery, glitter galore and sculpted..to something more a’ la non-touring. Lot’s and lot’s of shine for the lips, colored eyelashes. I think there will be very vibrant vibrant lip color’s also. Nails will be extremely metallic colors.
I have seen a few pictures from fashion week and I wasn’t sure how to react. It doesn’t matter what “the new or hottest trends” will be. I’m not going to be giving myself a whole new make-up trend so drasticac. Some might be a little fun if you go out or something, but as for work, no way. Most places have a certain dress code as far as nail colors, plus you don’t want to go to work looking like you are partying. Aside from that, I can downplay and include some new eyeshadow colors. But I don’t follow what’s the latest trends. I never have. I’ll follow what feels right to me. ?
