LUSH Sweet Lips Lip Scrub
For Convenience: Lip Scrubs
LUSH Sweet Lips Lip Scrub ($8.95 for 0.8 oz.) is a very basic lip scrub that uses castor sugar as its exfoliant. This is a product for those who want convenience, because it feels and works similarly to mixing a little sugar and olive oil–but it comes pre-mixed, conveniently stored, and tastes a bit better than the quickie DIY mix. I do find this to be too dry; the sugar tends to get everywhere and doesn’t adhere very well when I apply it to lips. I expect more of the jojoba oil would likely bind it together better. Since it doesn’t stay together well, I felt like more sugar went straight into the sink than on my lips.
It’s one of the more affordable lip scrubs (other than DIY, of course!) on the market, and you get enough to last you several months. Mine was made in May 2010 and expires in July 2011–good shelf life given the nature of LUSH products, too.

RECOMMENDATION: If shelling out $20+ for a lip scrub rubs you the wrong way, but you’re not really into doing it yourself, LUSH might be that happy medium you’re looking for.

Hmm I didn’t know what a lip scrub was until that poll a while back. I really want to just try one…I don’t even know of the other ones out there but I think I might just go buy this one first. It might be a good beginner lip scrub possibly. 🙂 I’ll have a Lush store finally too!!! Yayyy.
Yay! 🙂 My favorite is Sara Happ’s, but it’s a little pricey and I think you have to order online.
Bubblegum is soooo delicious! I’d rather eat it than use it!
I love my Sweet lips, it smells and tastes so good!
I just apply mine over lip balm, like Burts Bees and it sticks nicely. Then you can sit there and rub tour lips together and not try and eat it!
I bought one of these but more of ends up down the front of my shirt than on my lips so I never use it!
Exactly!
i love lush, and once i tried the mint chocolate one in-store, so with this review im getting really tempted just to buy it- the price isnt bad either!!
In my copy of the Lush Times it said you could lick these off, did you try that? I’m suspecting you didn’t, so how do you remove lip scrubs? What did you think of the smell/taste? This one’s meant to be chocolate but I fancy the mint one personally.
I tasted it, though I personally wouldn’t do it other than just to taste it – it tastes like sugar to me, smells a little like cocoa, mostly just something vaguely sweet.
I rinse with water and blot with a washcloth 🙂
I bet there’s loads of calories in it!
Hi!
I’ve worked at Lush and it’s totally OK to lick them off 🙂 I prefer it even 😀 the minty one tastes great and gives you fresh breath, at least at first…
I’m a bit curios though 🙂 Christine, did you receive this as a press sample for review or did you purchase it yourself? I’m very curious to see if LUSH has changed their marketing policy, since they never used to do things for marketing before… Hope it’s okay to ask! Take care!
LUSH has been sending me product samples for maybe 2-3 years? I’ve been in touch for them for quite awhile, though! I would say that a PR department does a lot of things that marketing doesn’t!
Just a heads up – I always disclose whether the product I’m reviewing is a press sample or not – check the box at the end of the post 🙂
Hi! Thanks for your response! 🙂 It’s very interesting to know, since they’ve always been very coy about not advertising and doing things like that… but I guess they do a lot of PR stunts 😀
Btw, I hope you get to try the lip tints so we can see what you think of them! 🙂
Take care!
oh, i love that product. i have it with bubblegum flavour and it tastes so good.
I absolutely love this lip scrub!
I thought that I was the only on that thought that it was dry. I have to make sure I wet my lips with water before using it so it will stick to my lips.I just find using a makeup wipe and rubbing it on my lips gave me better results than this…which sucks cause I really love the bubblegum smell
i wish to buy it but i dont think so its available in pakistan. good review love it
love it wish can buy it but it is not available in pakistan.
I bought this in the Mint Julip flavour. I like the feeling of it during and after I scrub my lips, but yeah, it’s definitely dry. Even just getting a bit out of the container is annoying, because it doesn’t stick to my finger, but if I try to scoop it out, it will go everywhere.
I think when it’s done, I’m going to reuse the container and make my own. I figure with a little peppermint oil, cane sugar, and olive oil, I’ll be good to go.
Lush recommends you lick it off your lips when you’re done scrubbing. I find the thought of that pretty gross..
It just contains sugar, jojoba oil and flavour so that shouldn’t be so weird? 🙂
And the dead skin you just rubbed off your lip :p
Well, what I find weird about it, is not the product itself. It’s the exfoliated lip gunk that I would like to avoid eating 😉
I’ve been using the Bubblegum one for about 2 months..I love it – it tastes like snow fairy!
I’ve been looking forward to these since Richie (WSITN) talked about them months ago!
Have you thought about getting the Bubblegum one Christine? That’s the one I’ve been drooling about, haha. 😀
Since I don’t really like this one enough to use it regularly, I’ll probably skip the other flavors! It’s not bad, but I have other lip scrubs I like better, so I’ll continue to use those in my regular routine 🙂
Hmmm I have never seen this at the Lush stores before. I think I might try this out for my dry chapped lips. It doesn’t hurt that the price doesn’t hurt the wallet much.
I purchased this a few weeks ago in conjunyetction with a foot scrub. It was my first time in a Lush store, so I was pretty stoked. Unfortunately, they both kind of failed to me….do you think it would be okay to add a drop or two of olive (or jojoba oil) to the scrub?
I think it would be – jojoba oil being better, since it’s already in there 🙂
I bought this a few weeks ago and it’s meh compared to Sarah Happ’s! I love Sarah Happ’s! That one just feels like it works. the Lush one feels as though I’m taking brown sugar and scrubbing it all over my mouth.
<3 Sara Happ's!
it’s important to know taht the main fun thig about this product is that you can eat it safely after scrubing your lips! Tjis one tastes like it smells: vanilla and chocolate. There is also Bubblegum, who’s pretty sweet, and the smell reminds me of snow fairy, and there is an other one, mintjulep, that smells like minty chocolate! I use mine (the chocolate and vanilla one) as a desert 🙂
So did it actually make your lips feel softer, even if it wasn’t a long-term effect? I am a little lazy with the DIY, haha, but i’m always on the lookout for lip-moisturizing products. I like Lush and don’t think $8 or $9 buck is too bad a bargain if it at least does it’s job.
It was so-so – it did an OK job! Since a lot of the sugar ends up falling off your lips before you have a chance to massage it in, it isn’t as effective as I’d like.
Thanks. I think I might pick one up anyhow, as I don’t exfoliate my lips too often having something conveniently stored like this would be nifty. I think i’ll try adding a lil olive oil or something to help the scrub adhere better.
I personally don’t understand the appeal of eating a lip scrub… it’s sugar, oil, and flavored oils mixed in with dead skin from your lips. It’s not really appetizing in my opinion. I’d rather have something super affective that I would just wash off.
i love this product, picked it up on a whim while shopping once and i love it. i am careful not to overdo it by using it too often, but it works great – gets all the flakies off for smooth lipstick application. even my boyfriend uses this – he used to use one from the body shop that has been discontinued and other suggestions were too “girly” for him. this is a happy medium.
Christine what scent do you like form Sarah Happ’s collection?
I’ve only tried the cocoa one, I think – back when she only had one, lol!
I bought this about a month ago because I have very dry, flaky lips. The Lush person (MUA?) recommended I buy on of their lip balms and put that on first, to counteract the dryness of the scrub. I have lots of lip balms but since I’m going to be eating off the scrub, I wanted something natural so I took their advice. I love this. After rubbing it on and licking it off (yum) the balm remains and I have nice soft lips. A little goes a long way too.
I think I’m going to try this. The dryness seems like a definite downside, but I usually take a little dab of whatever I’m using on my finger before I get in the shower, and just exfoliate right before I turn the water on. That way there’s no mess if the sugar falls.
I’ll be honest though, even if it is safe, I think I’ll pass on licking it off. The exfoliated skin cells don’t sound so delicious to me.
I have the Mint Julips and just love it. As you say, a bit crumbly, but just wet your lips first, scoop up a little, dab on and start exfoliating and it becomes less of a mess. Mint Julips tastes and smells like After Eights, my favourite candy, so could not resist it in store.
I can tell just by looking at the stuff in your pics that it would be hard to get out, let alone on your lips!
i never really lip scrub but this is pretty cheap i might just get one cause i use to be a just lipgloss girl but now i been wearing alot more lipsticks PS thanks for the review i never buy anything without a review
I just followed the link from your latest lip scrub review. I am so happy I did because I was under the impression that Lush lip scrubs were more expensive like close to $20. I would happily pay for this to not have to make it up myself! My lips get quite chapped so I’ve been looking for a good scrub. Thanks for the review! I’m excited to pick on up now!
No problem! 🙂 I don’t mind paying a little for convenience from time to time!
Luckily, my Sweet Lips isn’t dry at all!!!!!!!!!! It’s amazing, and I always lick it off after I’m done :))
