* Most creative makeup brand?
Urban Decay, in terms of colors, packaging and products. Great stuff!
* Most wearable makeup brand?
I’d have to say either Bobbi Brown or Chanel, because they have a lot of neutrals but some pops of color for when you need color in your life!!
* Most overhyped makeup brand?
MAC, without a question. The speed at which things sell out is flipping insane.

Most creative makeup brand? Make Up For Ever
Most wearable makeup brand? MAC, they have so many shades available and the perfect foundation match for me which is what MUFE lacks.
Most overhyped makeup brand? MAC, I think MUFE has much higher quality products!

Michelle Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Illamasqua
Most wearable makeup brand? MAC (so many color choices — something for everyone)
Most overhyped makeup brand? Urban Decay (I really only love their liners and the Naked palette)

Christina M. Avatar

I agree with all three. =)

I only like UD’s liners and the naked palette too, but I do also like the primer potion. I think their shadows don’t have a wide range of colors, and the majority of them have too much glitter & causes too much fallout. They just don’t work for me.

Dana Avatar

I agree with your responses too. UD shadows are way too glittery and IMO the 24/7 pencils are very overhypped as well, MUFE Aqua Eye Pencils have better staying power and are more pigmented.

JayJay Avatar

* Most creative makeup brand? Make Up Forever. Not for collections they release, but for their artistry. Close 2nd is MAC, for the collections, and the huge range of colour.
* Most wearable makeup brand? For the masses, MAC.
* Most overhyped makeup brand? Ummmm, this is a hard one. I could name so many companies, but I’ve narrowed it down. Not a brand, but a type of makeup. Most of the mineral makeup companies are overhyped. I’ve tried a few in the past, and to me, they’re all the same, and they’re all pretty much crap.

Katie Avatar

I have to agree with the mineral makeup being over-hyped. I never liked powder or loose powder foundations. I’ve always been a fan of the flawless look. I think B.E. is mega over-hyped… I probably should’ve put that as my answer instead.

Lizz M. Avatar

Really? If you don’t mind my asking, I’m curious to know what skin type you may have? You don’t have to answer, but I’m only asking because I hear from a lot of women that mineral foundation is crap and I absolutely love it! Well, I love the B.E foundation. I use a ton of different foundation (types and brands) and always find myself going back to B.E. because it just gives me such a flawless look, and I only really like full, matte coverage. (I know a lot of people don’t)

I figure there has to be something to the product if so many women find it disappointing, not just dislike for mineral makeup. I’m just curious to know what skin types it doesn’t mesh with or if maybe some women are just using the wrong brush (mineral makeup can be finicky like that).
For reference, I have normal to dry skin. I’ve been using the stuff since about.. i’d say 14. (I’m 20 now) and only get compliments when I’m wearing that foundation so it makes me really curious when I meet people who find it doesn’t work right for them.

Ha, sorry for the long winded question. Just curious. Thanks in advance if you can answer, or if anyone who’s been disappointed in mineral/B.E foundation can answer.

Serina Avatar

what i found with mineral makeup for me was that it didn’t provide enough coverage for a long period of time. I have normal to dry skin as well, but leaning more to the dry side haha. And I found mineral makeup to look cakey. So i would try to use it in the summer thinking since my skin can get a bit more sweaty mineral makeup would feel lighter and absorb some of the oils, but it would just melt right off anyway. (I used BE minerals btw however this was a couple of years ago and I hear they have a new formula that’s much better! =). I found I only liked to use the mineral makeup as a sort of setting powder after I’ve already applied liquid foundation, that gives a pretty nice coverage; which now that i think about it, that was how I tried it on in the store and the reason I bought it in the first place lol! I find mineral makeup works best for people who already have a pretty good complexion and only need some coverage.

Shelley Avatar

I can say that I used to use B.E. and sheer cover mineral make ups in years past but that was when I was much younger. I feel like the mineral powders at my current age of 32, settle into the fine lines I have, even with a primer on before the powder. I find in order to get the finish I want it takes a lot of product and by that point it looks fake. I also find that it settles into the few pores I have on my nose that are somewhat visible if you look closely. I too have normal to dry skin. Perhaps its not a type of skin that it works for better than others, perhaps its the age of skin. There is a lot of difference between my skin at your age, 20 and my skin now at 32.

Lizzi Avatar

agreed. Fully and completely. I must admit I bought into the hype of mineral makeup because my skin is soooo frikkin sensitive, but it only made it worse. I find MAC is more wearable because it’s more available to the masses [the nearest MUFE stand to me is an hour drive, and it’s only a stand, boo.] I’ve never personally been impressed by Chanel…even when I WAS able to afford it, nothing ever caught my eye.

Laia Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? M·A·C. Their editions are great (some more than others) and they always come up with innovative stuff.
Most wearable makeup brand? Bobbi Brown. I love their range of shades, and the fact most of them aren’t something ‘right-on-your-face’ when it comes to daytime cosmetics.
Most overhyped makeup brand? Dior. I’ve tried some stuff and it isn’t as impressive as I thought it was… I only adore their Iconic mascara, that’s it.

Lindy Avatar

Love the Iconic mascara. left my tube at work one night and wanted to wear mascara so i grabbed my covergirl tube and it was awful. I don’t care that it’s $27 for a tube it’s the best mascara i’ve ever tried!

* Most overhyped makeup brand?
MAC, hands down

Miss Dee Canada Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? MAC, unlike other companies, they come out with new looks/collections almost monthly!

Most wearable makeup brand? MAC, I find it very wearable! For drug store products I would say REVLON.

Most overhyped makeup brand? Urban Decay (too much shimmer all the time for me). For product those silly lip stains! They usually end up looking horrible!

Katie Avatar

Most creative brand?
Probably MAC – some of their launches and campaigns are creative and interesting.
Most wearable brand?
I think it’s a tie between Chanel, Lancome and Bobbi Brown. They have a lot of universally flattering colors, but also more vibrant colors if that suits you.
Most overhyped?
I think I have to go with MAC. There is always a lot of buzz surrounding their launches, but I feel like it more based on their creative and unique products, but those products don’t necessarily wear well, or may not be “quality” products.

applepark Avatar

* Most creative makeup brand? – MAC, they do the most # of collections year round and try to do interesting yet sellable stuff.
* Most wearable makeup brand? – MAC, MUFE, ILL, Nars, BB, GA has something in the color ranges for everyone
* Most overhyped makeup brand? – Napolean Paradis, BE (bc I don’t think it’s user-friendly.. infact I think all those loose powders are messy and difficult to use!)

Nora Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Make Up For Ever or Urban Decay.

Most wearable makeup brand? Bobbi Brown, or the designer brands like Chanel and Estee Lauder.

Most overhyped makeup brand? MAC. Everything’s pretty much re-promoted, the packaging is boring and they aren’t half as creative with new products and colors as they could be. I haven’t bought anything from them for almost a year and I’m not missing it.

Allison Avatar

Most creative makeup brand?
MAC esp. Pro – just a huge amount of stuff there to play with

Most wearable makeup brand?
Bobbi Brown or natural, high quality products that fits a range of needs

Most overhyped makeup brand?
Dior, Urban Decay,

Katie Avatar

Most Creative: MAC is my favorite brand of cosmetics of all time. They’re creative influence is inspiring. Their permanent line is huge and it offers something for everyone. Plus, I’m a sucker for their LE items.

Most Wearable: Bobbi Brown’s line is, in general, very wearable but I think MAC is too since their permanent line is so large and diverse (as I said before…. gosh I’m so repetitive).

Most Over-hyped: Stila — I’m just not crazy about the brand. They have nice shadows, but it’s sort of ridiculous that the pans alone are $18, plus you have to pay an additional $2 for the pot. They’re rather expensive but not so impressive.

Ash Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Urban Decay I adore them!!! They have the most colorful and creative stuff
Most wearable makeup brand? Smashbox
Most overhyped makeup brand? MAC with all this LE hard to get everyone is in a frenzy stuff I am slowly starting to dislike them. Its too crazy.

Aoife Avatar

Most creative: Illamasqua / Benefit
Most Wearable: Estee Lauder
Over hyped: MAC – good quality products but such hype over collections

Marina Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? – Urban Decay. The color range is amazing and fun! Plus the names crack me up.
Most wearable makeup brand? – Probably Smashbox. I don’t own much from them, but what I’ve seen is very wearable for the everyday woman. But I’m sure ever line of makeup has something that can be pulled off for an average day look…you just have to find it!
Most overhyped makeup brand? – MAC. I definitely find them to be overhyped. I own a couple products, but I’d take Urban Decay over them anyday. I can’t knock MAC for repromoting colors, because UD does that too, but the packaging isn’t too fun and I’ve found much better quality alternatives to their makeup.

Kourtni Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Toki Doki

Most overhyped makeup brand? Nars. Their stuff is expensive and really not that unique

Magnolia Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? MUFE and Illamasqua!
Most wearable makeup brand? MAC, with their shade ranges everyone will find something that works for them.
Most overhyped makeup brand? Nars. Though, I still love their Sheer Glow foundation!

Andie Avatar

Most Creative: Make Up For Ever, MAC
Most Wearable: Bobbi Brown
Most Overhyped: Urban Decay, Benefit, Bare Essentials, and MAC (I love me some MAC, but I recognize that everything isn’t great or worth the hype)

* Most creative makeup brand?
I have two! Urban Decay and Benefit for packaging..so cute!

* Most wearable makeup brand?
MAC hands down!..There’s something for everyone! Love the color range!

* Most overhyped makeup brand?
MAC..they sell out of things way to fast!! But I love them!! I’d also say Urban Decay..the only thing that really calls my attention is the 24/7 liners and some of their eyeshadow kits which is really the packaging doing it! lol

Sydney Avatar

Creative- MAC. They are constantly pumping out new and interesting things. There is definitely something for everyone.

Wearable- Dior. It makes up for the expense with high quality shades suitable for all.

Overhyped- Kat Von D. I feel like it is a novelty item for the most part, simply loved for the artistic packaging and fun product names. I will admit though, that the new adora palette interests me and is something I may buy.

Lauren Avatar

Most creative makeup brand: Urban Decay

Most wearable makeup brand: Nars

Most overhyped makeup brand: MAC (I am a total sucker for their launces though!)

Erin Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Make Up Forever

Most wearable makeup brand? Bobbi Brown

Most overhyped makeup brand? Giorgio Armani! $58 for foundation?! NOT.

Lou Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Hummm, product wise… Maybe Benefit?
Most wearable makeup brand? Nars, good quality and wearable, though a bit on the pricey side, but they do last.
Most overhyped makeup brand? MAC, their limited editions are insane, every two weeks I’d. Way too much.

Lizz M. Avatar

Most Creative: Illamasqua
Most Wearable: Estee lauder
Most Overhyped: Mac. This isn’t to say I don’t enjoy Mac, they’re a fantastic makeup art company with good quality and a fun range, but do I think it’s overhyped? Yes. People treat Mac like it’s the standard when there’s so much more out there.

Jamie Avatar

* Most creative makeup brand?
Either Tokidoki or Urban Decay
* Most wearable makeup brand?
Id’ have to say Lancome, they have lots of neutrals and crap 😛
* Most overhyped makeup brand?
MAC without a question…sure the cosmetics might by mighty fine, that is, if you pay a mighty fine. 😛 haha get it?

Shelley Avatar

Very cute pun however, MAC’s price points are not that bad. I’d much rather pay $14.50 for MAC shadows and know they are going to work well and have great pigment as to pay the same amount for Clinique which is just sad, or to pay more for Lancome which is just incredibly over price L’Oreal.

The only thing thats really pricey at MAC is their brushes but they last so long. Of course we’re all allowed our opinions – just think if you are going to say mac is overhyped thats fine but prices are not as bad as Chanel and Dior and Lancome and Benefit.

Opheliana Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? – mac, illamasqua
Most wearable makeup brand? – I haven’t tried them yet but I would think burberry is. Otherwise Make up store because it’s easy to get the just right colour.

most creative: benefit…they always make everything super interesting even if its a boring product
most wearable: nars
most overhyped: mac. hands down.

Natalie Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? MUFE/Illamasqua : Creativity down to product naming woot!

Most wearable makeup brand? MAC: Although “wearable” is different for every person. I think blues and greens are wearable as others may think only neutrals. But MAC for overall versatility.

Most overhyped makeup brand? MAC: but, it is overhyped for good reasons usually. Emphasis on usually.

NeenaJ Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Urban Decay / MUFE – it’s a toss up! Each comes up with incredible colors and new formulas (UDPP, MUFE HD).
Most wearable makeup brand? MAC. There are shades for everyone, regardless of race and age.
Most overhyped makeup brand? Dior – I just don’t get it. For the pricetag, there is nothing very special about it.

Colleen Avatar

Most creative makeup brand?

Most creative: I would have to say MUFE (make up forever) because their products are so versatile and they can be used for theatre where they original first started.
most wearable: Mac – there range of colors is awesome
most hyped: MAC again…..I would agree with most when they say that the collections are just ridiculous when they sell out in the first 5 mins of online release!!!

Most creative makeup brand?
Dior,
their packaging is creative, without being cheap and cartony ( yea I mean Benefit lol)
they could have just put their products
in these lil shiny black boxes, but thats BORING!

Most wearable makeup brand?
Chanel ,
the have a very elegant collection of neutrals

Most overhyped makeup brand?
MAC,
I think MAC is over rated
especially the collection madness
if you are a makeup collector then its totally fine
but for regular makeup users or fans , they dont need that much of huge collections

Nicci Avatar

Most creative makeup brand?
MUFE

Most wearable makeup brand?
Chanel

Most overhyped makeup brand?
MAC – come out w/too many collections and some of it looks the same. And it seems silly to repromote one item that they know will sell out -trying to overhype a product that doesn’t need to be. I agree w/another poster – question the quality.

Nicole Avatar

Most creative makeup brand?

Most creative makeup brand: Illamasqua
Most wearable makeup brand: MAC/Benefit
Most overhyped makeup brand: NARS/MAC – You will not DIE if you dont get the crazy MSF or latest crazy thing they are coming out with .. Even if you think you will!

Macaddict Avatar

1) MAC
2) MAC
3) Chanel, Stila, & Dior. Dior & Chanel, very “exclusive pricings” for inconsistent quality in some of their products and nothing original to boot (I am still reeling over last fall’s LE noir eye shadow quad….) As for Stila, I have to admit that whenever I am at a Sephora, I pass by without giving it a 2nd look as the packaging does not do it for me. It looks like juvenile/kiddie make up! lol

kali Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? MAC just because they have the most collections and they’re always with a “theme”
Most wearable makeup brand? LORAC
Most overhyped makeup brand? MAC by far

Yuki Avatar

Most creative: Urban Decay and Tokidoki.
Most wearable: most drugstore brands, since they cater mostly to mainstream and popular trends. I personally like Revlon.
Most overhyped: NYX.

Claudia Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? MAC, although I think the huge amount of collections make some items very similar to other previously released products.

Most wearable makeup brand?
MAC. There’s always something for everyone there, large variety of colors, shades and textures !

Most overhyped makeup brand?
MAC too – many products sell out because they became collector’s items! But in quality terms, I’d say some high end brands are really overhyped. They’re basically OK products beautifully packaged !

Samantha Avatar

Most creative: Urban Decay
Most wearable: MAC
Most overhyped: Mineral makeup in general –but I actually do use it and love it because it works well for me. If you don’t use it I wouldn’t tell you go to buy it and rave about it because it doesnt work for everyone.

3. Most overhyped? Freaking DIOR !!!!!!!!!!!

Jen Avatar

I would have to say:
1. Urban Decay – I think with the product and the packaging they are pretty creative all the way around.

2. MAC – With the wide shade selection in eyes, lips and blushes – seems like there is something for everyone.

3. MAC – which seems to be the general consensus

*Most creative makeup brand? Urban Decay
*Most wearable makeup brand? Dior. Excellent quality products (although expensive) that come in a wide range of shades from neutral to dramatic.
*Most overhyped makeup brand? MAC. They have too many color dupes within their own line. Still good quality.

Ashley Avatar

Most creative makeup brand?
Anna Sui, the packaging is to die for. There are a lot of unique and amazing colours too. It’s worth the price.
Most wearable makeup brand?
For base makeup and age – MAC. Dior and Shiseido is really wearable too. Shiseido has a lovely scent in pretty much all their products and the quality of their products are amazing.
Most overhyped makeup brand?
MAC, just because there are too many people that said this brand is the best makeup brand of all time. It’s a great brand, but it’s not the absolute best. Or Lancome, the quality isn’t as great as it seems, I’ve been let down too many times and too much money has been spent from my wallet for too long. Plus, they raised all the prices of their products to a ridiculous amount I believe.

M Avatar

I think Tokidoki is the most creative in terms of packaging.
Most wearable, so far the Burberry swatches you provided win in that one!
Overhyped, I think is MAC. It is annoying when I see something I think I may like, go to the store and it’s all gone. MAKE MORE dammit!

MAC and I have had a love-hate relationship for some time. I love their products but I dislike the fact that certain LE products get super hyped up and then they sell out before the collection officially opens on their site (ie Marine Life for To The Beach). It sends us all into a frenzy, but hey, that’s MAC for ya!

Most Creative – Benefit, Simply for the names of their products and the clever packaging.
Most Wearable – MAC. Overhyped or not, their stuff is awesome so I think it deserves the hype. Also, it is priced so much more affordable than other high end brands, which makes it more accessible to more people.
Most Overhyped – I have to agree with JayJay about the minerals. While I would not call some of the ones I’ve tried “crap”, they certainly aren’t as special as the “hype” makes them out to be.

Megan Avatar

Most creative makeup brand?

Most wearable makeup brand?
-A lot of makeup brands are wearable. It’s the way you look at it.

Most overhyped makeup brand?
-I think MAC.

Megan Avatar

Most Creative- Urban Decay, I love all their palates and crazy colors. I just wish they wouldn’t re-use so many colors in their palates, it’s hard to find palates that are all colors I don’t have anymore.
Most Wearable- I use UD more than any other brand so I’m going to have to go with them again. I literally cried when I lost my Skull Palate.
Most Over-hyped- I think MAC takes the cake on this one. I’m always interested to see what they come out with but I also haven’t bought anything from them in years. I’ll probably buy some products from them just to see if they’ve changed but I’m not holding my breath on it.

Diana Avatar

Creative? Make Up For Ever…I love the colors and formulations. The wear time on them is superb!
Wearable? MAC…they create make-up looks that can be used for everyday. I also think that many people who use MAC “over-use” the make-up and end up looking like 1cent make-up counter hookers.
Overhyped? Dior…overpriced and nothing that can’t be replicated by a lower end line

Ali Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? tie between MAC and Urban Decay
Most wearable makeup brand? Benefit
Most overhyped makeup brand? most designer makeup lines like Chanel, you can always find a similar product for a lower price

Most creative: UD, not just for packaging, the range of their colours and stuff too
Most wearable: NARS, most of their colours can be worn for a daily look =D
Most overhyped: MAC. Lots of hits with this one. Find a gem here and there, but not really worth the price…

K Avatar

Creative: NYX. I know that might sound odd but they have so many quality shadows for such a good price. Close to MAC quality for so cheap seems quite innovative to me.

Wearable: MAC, such a wide range of foundation colors and I am obsessed with their shadows.

Hyped: Urban Decay. So clever at packaging but SO many colors with glitter fallout. And, their shadows fade and crease on me whereas MAC and NYX do not. Love the primer potion though.

Most overhyped makeup brand?
Illamasqua: their stuff isn’t dat great.

Miss Kitty Avatar

Illamasqua is definitely the most creative i’ve ever come across! GORGEOUS creativity w their products!
Benefit is the most wearable brand i’ve come across, especially with the amount of fake-its they have. Huge crazy colours no way. Looking perfect and flawless yes yes yes.
and MAC is the most overrated!! Especially for the price in AUSTRALIA, the products aren’t that great, especially considering there’s Inglot here and it’s SO affordable!

Most Creative: MAC hands down…its and industry leader and the launches sell out because its just that good.

Most Wearable: In terms of pallets and colors, MAC, though I am never disappointed with Sheiseido either.

Most Hyped brand: Benefit. I’ve just never been impressed with anything the put out nor am I a fan of the cult followed BadGal Lash and liner.

Anna Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? BENEFIT,
no other brand has such marketing concept and packaging (which is a part of marketing as well) along with really nice quality.

Most wearable makeup brand? BOBBI BROWN.

Most overhyped makeup brand? GUERLAIN.
Too pricey, but products from less expensive brands could bit them in each and every part.

Brittney Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Illamasqua only because that is their gimmick. Though i think mufe gives you more tools to be creative.
Most wearable makeup brand? For you average joe – Clinique or Lorac. For those crazys like me that can’t get her fill… MAC – it just has about everything you could want to do what you want.
Most overhyped makeup brand? Urban Decay (only because i only love their eye stuff- everything else is ehhh) and Benefit (I have one product of theirs and only two more i am really wanting to get just not that good of a brand compared to others)

lazeny Avatar

Most creative makeup brand? Shu Ueumura and Guerlain. I would say they are more innovative.
Most wearable makeup brand? Bobbi Brown and Burberry. Very safe for day to day wear and at the office.
Most overhyped makeup brand? MAC hands down. They release new collections and LE’s like almost every month, it’s insane and very tiring.

1. Creative? As in what make-up brand “creates” the most? That would be MAC; Or, as is what make-up allows you to be most creative? That would be Make Up ForEver
2. Wearable? NARS — Beautiful. Flawless. Lots of choices without being overwhelming. While some of the color choices are “out there”, the line has several “go to” colors (Dolce Vita, Orgasm), as well.
3. Bare Minerals, bar none… Ick!

Most creative brand – Make Up For Ever
I feel like it really comes out with great stuff for make up artists to be creative with and the general public. Like their flash creams is an example. You could use those for just about anything. It’s really awesome quality too.

Most wearable brand – Bobbi Brown
I’ve heard great things from the brand and they have great color selections. I’ve tried a few products and they’re really great.

Most overhyped brand – MAC
Definitely MAC. They come out with stupid collections all the time and there’s great products, sometimes, and usually really bad stuff with bad pigmentation. Like they just skipped over testing it and just needed something to fill up more space for the collection. I am always disappointed with MAC and it’s products.

Their foundation is thick and cakey. It’s most suitable for stage of movie makeup. It does horrible things to your skin. Extremely overhyped. I find other brands at Sephora take more time into designing and coming out with high quality products. I’d rather buy MUFE, Nars, Benefit, Stila etc than MAC.

Most creative: Illamasqua – you really have to be creative to wear some of their products.
Most wearable: MAC – Good quality overall. Something for everyone, regardless of skin color and personality, pro or not.
Most hyped: Benefit – the quality sucks and you can get the same products they sell but for better quality from other brands, even though Benefit’s packaging is creative and funky. Or Urban Decay – their stuff is too glittery and I’m on the fence about UDPP.

Sara Avatar

Most creative: Urban Decay, for sure. The packaging, the product names-there’s a lot of thought put into it all, for sure.
Most wearable: For me, Stila. Even the bolder colors blend out and look semi-natural.
Most over-hyped: MAC. I have things that I like from MAC, but nothing that I absolutely adore. I don’t know…it’s a nice brand, but I don’t see what sets it SOOO much higher than other’s.

Most Creative — M.A.C – I think they have a wide variety of colors that really get your attention, and the collections they come out with are very creative.

Most Wearable — Benefit – They have a lot of products for every type of skin, if you’re looking for something more sheer or something more pronounced. Everything they make comes in a alternative for a lighter/darker skin tone.

Most Overhyped — Although it’s creative, I’m going to have to say M.A.C because a lot of their stuff is nice, but I do feel like the craze over their limited edition products is quite intense.
