1. Moisturizing, it really makes a difference. 2. By applying the foundation only where it is needed. For me, it’s my nose, under-eye area, and my chin. 3. I use a brush instead of a sponge. I wouldn’t even think of going back to the sponge. lol.
I really want to try a primer, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Great question! For me, its the following (for my whole base):
1 – Moisturise and let it sink in for 10 minutes or so.
2 – Primer. I use the Smashbox Photofinish one, but there are tons of others.
3 – Depending which foundation I wear, I apply differently. I most often use MAC Select SPF15, which is a liquid and i apply this using my fingertips to blend.. The other one I use is Maybelline Dream Mousse foundation which I dot on and then blend with a foundation brush. For some reason, I never get as good a finish with the liquid foundation when I use a brush, I have no idea why! lol
4 – Concealer. Only where I need it and the right types for different areas. i use a light reflecting concealer under my eyes if I feel I need it and a creamier one to cover blemishes.
5 – Powder. I use loose powder dusted liberally all over and then buffed in to set everything.

If you’re not taking care of your skin, make up is pointless.
Besides that, I would say a good SPF moisturized and some Fix+.

Right on! Drinking water will help your skin and have your makeup looking great.

my MAC 187 brush- can’t live without it!
Cleansed and moisturized skin, always. How gross is putting on makeup when your skin is dirty or dry?
Time allowing, and especially when I’ve got a long day ahead, I’ll opt for Smashbox Photofinish Primer.
I currently use a tinted moisturizer and I just apply it with my fingers. You become familiar with the contours of your face and product isn’t wasted on the sponge/brush.
What is smashbox photo finish primer??? Idk what to use for my skin i have tried everything!! What is the best moisturizer??
Oh, and I’m also getting in the habit of drinking a glass of water while I’m doing my makeup!
A kaubuki brush to apply and some fix + to finish it off!
I apply with a brush, then buff it out with a sponge. Touch up any blemishes. Then set it.
I use:
Revlon Colorstay foundation
MAC Blot Powder to set.
1. Cleanse: ..self explanatory. 😛
2. Exfoliate: regularly (weekly), for a smoother canvas.
3. Moisturize: regularly (daily), not just when you put on your makeup. I find it makes a big difference when it’s had time to be absorbed before starting on foundation.
4. Concealer: whether for blemishes, hyper/hypopigmentation or brightening up areas where shadows gather – this makes a big difference to me.
5. Foundation: lately I’ve been cutting my liquid foundation with moisturizer (thanks Beda!), and I find that if I apply it with my (clean!) fingers I get a much better finish. I’ll then buff it with the 187.
6. Set: with (blot) powder followed by Fix+. This probably is where I see the most difference in terms of getting close to the flawess look because of the minimal shine and no powdery/cakey look.
* I used to use a primer, but I’ve found now that with the exfoliation routine I have, I do better without it.
1. Cleanse and Moisturize directly after. (Since I have dry skin, I dot some more light moisturizer on right before I apply foundation.
2. Foundation, applied with fingers, then buffed in. (I normally use tinted moisturizer or foundation+moisturizer for spreadability.)
3. Powder Foundation on T-Zone, buffed in. (This will usually only work with liquid foundation/tinted moisturizer—I like to set it with powder foundation for more coverage on blemishes, since dewy skin will play up the uneven skin textures.)
Of course, a regular skincare regimen is pretty much necessary—and drink lots of water! (I can finish a whole gallon in one day.)
I recently started using the Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge (sold at Target for $9.99). I love it.
I find that i get a flawless application with it.
I always moisturize and prime before i put on foundation.
Has anyone tried the MUFE HD Foundation? ANd if so what do you think about it?
We all know I’m the master of a flawless face (if you know me!); it’s the most important part of me. I can do this with virtually any type of products (even though I have my favs).. a medium coverage foundation, opaque concealer, mineral found. or powder to set, and bronzer. The most important tool is concealer.. to erase any shading, discolouration, or minute spot. I have a teeeenie tiny brush that I use with mineral powder concealer, over liquid concealer applied with my fingers. Bronzer is the second most important, because it camouflages everything. For liquid products, I use my fingers to apply (prefer it over foundation brushes, etc.), and for powder products I use dense brushes.
I’m an aesthetician so I’m a firm believer that taking care of your skin is the best way to achieve a flawless foundation application. You wouldn’t paint over a decaying wall would you? You’d prime it first and then add the paint.
Exfoliating is one of the biggest keys in my opinion. Many people cleanse and moisturize, but you’ve got to get rid of that dead skin, ladies:) Also, stay out of the sun! I’m 34 yrs old and most people think I’m 25 due to my fair, shielded-from-the-sun skin. I always get compliments on my flawless skin. Trust me, it works.
That said, MAC’s Studio Fix Fluid is my all time favourite foundation for my own skin. I also find that foundation, concealer and powder always works to achieve flawless skin.
Yes indeed, the skincare routine is the most important part. I sometimes forget the exfoliating the past weeks, though, I should take better care of that.
Enough said about the skincare routine-part, here comes the makeup-part:
1. Moisturize (with my super-sensitive skin I use hypoallergenic moisturizer)
2. Radiance Balm (a sort of strobe liquid/cream, but then a slightly different formula, from a drugstore here in Holland. It has lots of vitamines and stuff in it. It’s great for my dry and sensitive skin!)
3. Green concealer (for my red blemishes). I spread it with my fingers.
4. Liquid foundation (also with my fingers due to the sensitivity of my skin, I can’t apply with most brushes. I would love to try out the 187, though!)
5. Normal concealer, undereye areas and other little spots (i apply this under my eyes with my concealer brush, it’s a great way!! the rest of my skin, i will blend it with my fingers).
6. Setting!! : most times I use translucent powder, in days of extra need of coverage I use mineral foundation. When I use mineral foundation, I sometimes give it an extra set with evian spray.
And for the extra dewy look, I use go gosmetics baked bronzer in a pinkish color (http://tinyurl.com/3hym42)
