When do you normally apply your makeup?
If I’m not anticipating photographing products/swatches that day, then as early as possible, so usually around 7AM. This sometimes lets me test another cheek product or even eyeshadow if I’m feeling particularly industrious (or a product fades quickly)! If I’m photographing, then it might be around 10 or 11AM!
I am so embarrassed to have to admit to being such a nightowl/ late-day person! AZ doesn’t have very many who are, so yes, I’m an anomaly!
It usually amounts to whether I have some type of appointment, then it will be before noon typically. For other outings or for a makeup challenge, sometime in the afternoon….?
Nancy – I am in AZ too and definitely not a night owl. If I didn’t have to work, I wouldn’t get up till around 10.
I’m with you, as a night owl. I live in OH, but have worked crazy shifts my entire life, as many as all three in a week.
Weekdays: between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m.
Weekends : late morning or early afternoon unless I have plans for earlier. I usually play around with color combos and my stash in general on weekend mornings.
On weekdays, around 7:30 AM, and it’s got to last at least 10 hours minimum. On weekends, I sleep in and usually go makeup free in morning, so usually not until 10 or 11 AM
At least half an hour after I wake up (provided I get enough sleep), otherwise my eyes would just water too much and ruin it!
Depending on how rushed my morning is either at 7 am or after the kids are fed, walked and down for a nap, which is around 11 pm.
On weekdays it’s pretty early, usually between 6:45am and 7:00am. I don’t tend to wear a lot of makeup to work so applying it doesn’t take long.
At the weekend it really depends on when I get up and if I even want to put makeup on that day! If I do it’s usually late morning, anytime between 10:00am and 12:00pm!
Weekdays usually around 7am, since I have to leave around 7:30. I like to do my makeup last, after breakfast and getting my things ready and packed for the day, that way my skincare has enough time to really sink in, and my foundation applies so much better.
On weekends (or vacations) I usually don’t bother. If I’m going out, I will do my makeup right before, sometimes as late as 8pm.
I only wear makeup when I leave the house (I work from home); so pretty much weekends and the occasional weekday. I get up between 3 – 4 a.m., grab some coffee, watch a bit of news, then shower and do my hair and makeup. So usually my makeup is on before most people get up 😉
Same, immediately when I get up in the morning. Even when I’m going out at night I don’t bother waiting. I can’t stand the feeling of being ‘bare’ and I also don’t want to redo my make-up, so I just stick with whatever I do in the morning and hope it continues to look nice throughout the day and evening.
Weekdays, it’s usually around 6:30 to 7:00 am. Weekends, considerably later…
Whenever I feel like it, I guess lol. I typically don’t wear makeup around the house or if I’m popping out real quick for errands. If I’m going to work, school, or out for the day I usually like to arrange my getting ready time so I have a few minutes to exfoliate and let my moisturizer sink in, and then another few extra minutes to let my foundation set before I do anything else. I just feel like having that extra time helps my skin look better and helps my base last linger.
After shower but before drying hair- that way it’s easiest to pull all of my hair back without putting any creases in it, so about 6:00/6:30.
I totally understand about hair creases. I hate them! It’s the only crimp/curl that stays in my hair.
You know the two best parts of the day, right? When you put on your makeup, and when you take it off. 🙂
I put my makeup on about 7 am most days before work. On the weekends, meh, whenever, or sometimes not at all to give my skin a break. (Does skin even need a break? I have no idea for real, lol!)
I reapply lipstick ALL DAY LONG, no matter what day of the week. Normally, I refresh a little blush in the afternoon, but since I’ve been using IT blush for the past two weeks, that stuff stays fresh and true into the evening.
6:30 or 7 in the morning when I work. Later around 10 or 11 on weekends
I usually only wear make-up if I’m leaving the house, and then I put it on right before I leave, so it could be anytime from right after I wake up until 8 or 9 pm! I’m in medical school, so most of my days are spent studying makeup-less. This summer I’m looking forward to trying out some tutorials I’ve had my eye on, though, so those will probably go on after I’ve woken up and had breakfast and coffee.
Lol, I feel like med school makeup for me is anywhere from “you’re lucky I’ve showered today” all the way to “well if I have a date with destiny I might as well dress for the occasion!” Haha, but coffee is definitely a must in both situations!
Med school is so hard. Keep up the fight.
You two are too funny! I just finished my Master’s this April and that is exactly how I was. Class days: “well, I’ve got all this makeup so I better make use of it…” Days I could stay in and study/exam days: “Don’t bother me, don’t look at me, I don’t even have a face leave me alone.” I thought I’d really have some fun after I started working again but I’m in a field dominated by older men and most days I wonder why I bother. I guess really because it’s still fun for me even if no one sees it 🙂
On a weekday, as early as I need to get out the door on time — this generally means around 0630. On a weekend, I usually sit at the computer for a bit before I shower, so … 10ish?
On days when I work, I do my makeup around 10 to look good for my 11 AM shifts! The rest of the time, it’s special occasions only since I’m not taking classes right now, so I’ll do my makeup about an hour before I go.
I work from home, am a nightowl and have chronic, severe insomnia. I usually do my makeup between 10 am and noon, depending on how early I woke up.
Usually by 7:00 AM whether I need it or not. Once a month, though I give my face a break and just moisturize.
I apply makeup after my shower. Now that we’re into hot and humid temps, I leave some time for my foundation to set, whenever possible, before moving on with the rest of my makeup. Weekends are more casual but I still apply under eye concealer (so necessary), foundation, powder and lipstick. Will apply additional makeup depending my level of interest and my plan for the day.
Usually 7:30 Monday through Friday, and it has to be quick because I am always in a rush in the morning.
Weekends…I usually don’t wear makeup. Last Saturday I got my hair cut and used it as an excuse to try out a couple things I got from ColourPop that I’m not totally sure how I want to use, but that’s unusual. If I’m just going to the grocery store or to Target, I don’t bother.
I love having an actual event to go to so I can take my time and do something more interesting than my work makeup!
On weekdays, between 7:15 and 8 am depending on how many times I hit snooze! 🙂
On weekends or days off, it varies with whatever I have planned. If I leave the house, it’s probably going to be within an hour of the time I leave, but if I’m staying in, odds are I don’t put anything on unless I’m just trying out new looks for fun.
Weekdays — anywhere 5:30-7:30am, depending when I have to be in the office. The earlier the start, the more likely I am to do last steps (e.g., brow pencil or lip color like a neutral gloss that requires less precision) in the car at stop lights. Weekends — mid-morning, depending when I have to be somewhere. I can’t go without makeup, but for weekends it’s the minimum a/o time for experimentation.
Being a night owl and working from home these days it’s usually during my lunch break!
After breakfast and coffee
I apply my makeup before going out – that could be any time of the day!
In the early morning before breakfeats or after gym (depends if I’ll have a busy day or of I can do my makeup fast), so around 6am or around 8am. And I take my makeup off around 23pm every day.
Typically from 6-7am. (Unless it’s a weekend – then it’s either ‘never’ or ‘whenever’!)
If I have to go in to work, then first thing in the morning. If I am working at home or on the weekends, then around lunchtime.
Mon-Fri 7:00AM and mid-day on weekends, I love to experiment
Last thing before I leave the house, but I have pixie cut hair, so I don’t blow dry. In the past, when I did have to blow dry my hair I’d moisturize, then blow dry so the heat would help the moisturizer dry and absorb, then makeup.
My husband and I have a running joke. I try to make sure I put my lipstick on before he notices so I can schmear him before I leave for work. Then he groans and wipes at his mouth. If he thinks of it before I put on my lipstick he makes sure he kisses me preemptively. A little lipstick war we wager every morning. ?
I do my makeup between 11:00am (if I have an appointment scheduled) and 6:00pm (if there’s an evening event). Most of the time, however, I apply makeup between two and four in the afternoon.
Sounds familiar to me, Cat! If I am going across town to see my son or have a medical appt., it may be as early as 8 a.m., but other days, it just depends on my mood and energy levels.
Have you always been a night person? I remember scaring my mother one night when she couldn’t find me anywhere in the house. I was outside in my pajamas with my father’s flashlight looking for insects that only came out at night. 🙂
As for appointments, if I have one scheduled before noon (which is a rare and unfortunate event) I usually just stay up all night. Of course, I’m exhausted and look my very best by late afternoon! 😉
You know what, Cat, I think I likely always had the midnight madness thing going on! I can remember tiptoeing downstairs to see if my Dad would let me stay and watch Johnny Carson Late Show with them. I *knew* my Mom wouldn’t say yes, and would have scooped me up and put me back to bed, but not Dad! Also, random episodes of stress insomnia even occurred during childhood, so I have probably always had a nighttime thing going on, LoL.
Yeah, I always ask, plead, even beg for afternoon appts.! And usually do my shopping after 3-4 p.m., too!
Stress insomnia is something I can absolutely relate to. My childhood insomnia was caused by a combination of hypervigilance, recurring nightmares, sensory sensitivity, and abuse. I’m certain the late-night horror movies I watched when my parents weren’t around to intervene also added to it!
Shopping in 110+ temperatures was the worst! When we lived in AZ (Arrowhead Mall area), the kids would end up on my schedule during the summer due to the insane heat during the day. I’d pile them in the car and take them grocery shopping with me between 10:00pm and midnight!
Sounds like you had very similar causes for stress insomnia! Mine were: the OCD factor would have me ruminating and my brain racing, sensory sensitivity, vivid nightmares that could be recurring, and abuse. As for horror movies; THEY actually brought me with them to the drive-in movies where I saw stuff that no kid that young ought to see EVER.
Yep, when I still had a vehicle, we went out at night to do food shopping, too! Now I have to deal with buses, and out here they stop around 10-11, depending on Route and direction.
During the school year, I have my makeup on by about 5:45AM on weekdays to get out the door for work by 6:15. Now that it’s summer, I think it’ll be more around 11AM, after I get home from the gym and shower.
Either right before I go out, or in the morning as part of my getting-ready routine.
I have worn makeup for years. I am totally obsessed. I love eyeshadows. To this day, I can’t understand a why a women would go without makeup. Bare, natural, nothing, not even chapstick, everyday. I am alone 2016 makeup sluts. Respond if you agree. Colorado.
Right before I go out on errands. I just go with what I feel like that day. Also, it depends on the weather. I used to get treated better when I wore makeup when I was young but now I just get treated the same whether I wear it or not so I just wear it for myself. I do feel more confident when I wear it but no one else seems to care so why should I? Since I am older now, I don’t feel the pressure to look pretty or sexy or attractive. It’s actually a relief. My husband loves me no matter what and he knows I can still look good if I put in the effort. We’ve been married for 32 years and see each other with stars in our eyes so we still look like we are in our 30’s to each other. That is what love does!
I do my routine daily about 3 in the afternoon but on weekends, as early as possible!
The weekdays when I work – around 6.45 to 7 am – I work part time. All other days it is between 8 and 10 am. I hate getting up early on the weekends, I just love to sleep in…
On days I work, between 4-6 am, depending on what time my shift starts. On days off, if I’m going do to a lot, around 8-10 am. If I’m just at home or running only a few errands, then not at all or just before I leave.
it varies as to what I am doing that day, my start times for work vary a lot, and some days I don’t do my makeup at all, some days I just play around with my makeup, and some days I go full glam. some days it’s right after I wake up, other days not until the afternoon
Only when I’m going out in public. Before I retired, it was daily in the morning.
I never wear makeup when I am home and just around the house. If I am planning to go out I like to apply it at least 40 minutes before I leave the house. I love using Amore Pacific Moisture Bound skin energy hydration spray for a setting spray.
Hello Ladies!
I read most of your answers & I have to say, we ladies are dedicated & proud to look our absolute best! If our husbands, boyfriends or significant others would spend a day in our shoes, they couldn’t do it! Lol. If I’m going to work that day, I wear full makeup. My day usually starts at 5:30am. I usually shower the night before and I put my hair in braids, so the next morning all I have to do is a quick scrunch to my hair. But my hair is done last. First is the makeup. If I was not scheduled to work and they call me in, I will do primer, foundation, concealer, powder, blush, a lip gloss instead of lipstick and a quick, light one coat of mascara. The hair goes up into a ponytail, a light mist of perfume and done in 25 minutes, & out the door. It really does depend on what shift they call me in for, but it’s a call in, so I have to be quick. No time to dilly dally around! Especially when there are patients, sick people that need all my attention & energy. Shift work and being on call on my days off, are tough on anybody. Different sleeping hours, eating, ect.
…….. I seen a question from Linda on here & “YES”, your skin does need to take a breather! I had recently spoke to a patient who is a Skin M.D. (Cosmetic Dermatologist, but I am also a Cosmetologist, besides a Nurse). It’s a good idea to give your face a break from wearing makeup. It allows your skin to not only breathe, but balance & decongest from any build up caused by foundation & other makeup that’s applied daily. Even the high quality makeup contains chemicals, preservatives & fillers, which can clog pores. Face makeup, especially SPF’s can congest your skin & block oxygen from flowing in & out of our pores. Plus, depending on your makeup’s ingredients, over use can lead to acne & or dehydration. So a break isn’t a bad thought, as it permits better results from your skin care. Naturally there’s no medical reasons to skip a day from wearing makeup everyday… however it is very important to properly remove all your makeup on a daily basis. The proper way of removing all your makeup is to cleanse twice. The first time is to remove all the makeup, and the second is for a deeper cleanse to allow your skin to truly breathe. Taking a makeup break allows your skin to replenish it’s natural moisture level. There is one time when bare is always best, regardless of your cleansing routine. When you exercise. (And naturally, taking your makeup off every night, no matter how tired you are)! Taking a break is like hitting the reset button for your skin, pores & complexion. Allowing your skin to breathe, can even help you look younger. …..
**** Also, avoid any makeup with formaldehyde- and related preservatives, (DM hydantoin, phthalates & oxybenzone, are the common one’s) because they tend to aggravate the skin. ***** ~~ I hope that this helps you out, in some way, shape or form. Knowledge IS Power. I think that it’s very important to empower anyone & everyone! ~~. ?% ?????
Rose,
Thank so much for all the good information. I agree about giving your face a break when I don’t have to wear makeup I don’t and that is usually when I am home or just running out to the grocery store. It really does help your skin Breathe and stay healthier.
Awe, Thank You Maria!! That is very sweet of you & not a problem at all hon. Any information that I can share with everyone, or that can help someone is an awesome feeling! I feel that us ladies are on the same team. It shouldn’t be a competition at all. I love to share knowledge. I’m very happy & grateful that I can do my part. ??
My makeup goes on at around 6:45 am Monday – Friday and stays on till about 6pm, on the weekends unless I’m doing more than just going to the gym and grocery shopping all my face gets is moisturizer and my brows brushed into place.
M-F between 6:20 – 7:15am and on sundays at 10:30am. I rarely wear makeup on my Saturday as it’s my off day.
