People actually wear a different for summer? Lol. Who knew? I wear the same as I always do. It has to be waterproof and very black. I love Maybelline Lash Sensational or Loreal Miss Manga Rock. Also Revlon Dramatic Definition
For the longest time, it was Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara. And I do still like it for the simple fact that it can hold up to even a major monsoon downpour or extreme humidity. But it also seems to leave little black dots in my undereye area. So, I have been testing several mascara samples lately: Benefit Roller Lash (holds a curl all day, naturally separated lashes), Smashbox X-Rated (one coat wonder, but very wet formula tranfers to my hooded lid) and MAC False Lashes Extreme Black ( love this one!). Not sure that any are actually waterproof, but no little black dots to check for constantly!
I’ve been liking Benefit Roller Lash too. It doesn’t flake, smudge or transfer below my eyes, and does a decent job of holding the curl. I’m wearing it right now!
It’s definitely a good one, Pami! I may get the full size, but I still don’t know whether it’s waterproof, though, which I need during our very hot, humid monsoon season here in AZ.
It’s not advertised as waterproof, so IDK if it will work during monsoon season in AZ. Aside from going swimming or showering in it – neither of which I’ve tried – the Roller Lash has been holding up well for me. I can wear it from morning until I remove it at night and it looks as good as it did when I put it on.
When I was younger I wore only waterproof mascaras, but now I’m afraid of losing eyelashes during the removal process.
Let us know how it works out Nancy.
My favorites are MAC Haute and Naughty (the skinny brush) or Diorshow. I don’t really have a formula for summer or any other season, I’ve just always worn the same mascara all year round. Up until recently (YAY for Nordstrom Mascara Madness sale!) I’ve just always worn whatever mascara was on sale at the drugstore.
W3LL people Extremist Mascara! Its not waterproof but doesn’t stream down my face in Indian Summer. Thats a good thing right?
I just tried the L’oreal Manga Rock mascara and it’s awesome! Bareminerals Lash Domination is great as well.
I like that one too with the newer petite brush.
I don’t really switch to a specific mascara for summer. I just use whatever I like at the moment.
I don’t really have one, as I mostly use deluxe sample sizes. Though I tend to reach for ones that are waterproof, and prefer defining and lengthening, with volume being a plus. No clumping, spidery-lash mascaras for me.
I don’t have a specific summer mascara, I keep using my current favorite, which is by Elizabeth Arden at the moment.
Blinc, Blinc, and more Blinc, though it isn’t as good as it used to be. Almost always use it on lowers, anyway. Others drop into concealer, even if it’s set. S.t. You can get tubes fall off, if it gets too humid. Anybody have any recs for tubing? Didn’t particularly like L’Oreal; haven’t tried any really HE.
I love the Kevyn Aucoin The Volume. I get it during Nordstrom’s buy 2 get 1 free mascara events. I’ve tried Blinc but didn’t like it as much. I am committed to tubing mascaras. It’s the only kind that doesn’t get on my contact lenses.
So just to make sure I am reading this right – the Kevyn Aucoin The Volume is a tubing mascara?
Around 7 years ago, I received a GWP Clinique tubing mascara. I really loved that it didn’t flake, held a curl fairly well and was waterproof as long as the water wasn’t warm! But I despised how I had to remove it at bedtime with VERY warm water! That was so drying!
Yes it is! Comes off with warm water. Wears really well.
Ooh, a Zoeva post. I’m there. Thanks.
Ya know, this belongs under Divya. Sorry. I ERASED the rest that belonged here. Goofed this up more than once. Also dnk that KA was tubing. Will try, and follow your Nordie’s lead next year. Blinc is no five star experience any more, but agree that tubing is a must. Sorry again. And thanks.
Same here love Blinc or UD Cannonball. I haven’t found any other “tube” mascara that holds up to Blinc
Years ago I used to use Mirenesse – the original. It might be called “Secret Weapon”, and I really liked it as far as wear time with no flaking or clumping and it removed easily. It didn’t give lots of length or volume, but at that time I had long, fairly thick eyelashes and my eyelids weren’t hooded (which now pushes my eyelashes down), so it worked well for me.
I recently tried Clinique Lash Power and hated it. I tried it three times to really give it a chance and each time it flaked while wearing it leaving all sizes of black specks under my eyes and above my cheekbones, and it was hard to remove using warm water. Each time I lost a few eyelashes. I also tried the bi-phase removers and of course they didn’t work either, though they aren’t recommended for tubing masacara. I also bought the Clinique Bottom Lash mascara, but I haven’t tried it yet. If it’s the same formula with just a different brush, it’s not going to work for me either.
I think I tried a Blinc sample a couple of years ago, and didn’t care for it enough to buy a full size.
I think I might need to clarify that the mascara’s I mentioned in this post are all tubing mascaras. Also, PSA (Public Service Announcement) Mirenesse is going to be on Hautelook tomorrow starting at 8am PT 11am ET. It was over ten years ago when I first starting using it. I know they’ve added several other mascara formulas since then, but I haven’t tried any of them. And one final note, from what I’ve read you can use the tubing mascaras over a primer for extra length and volume. I tried it once with the Clinique Lash Power (the full name is actually Clinique Lash Power Mascara Long-Wearing Formula”) and it didn’t seem to adversely effect the mascara in any way.
Guerlain Maxi Lash for me also, but I’ve also been liking Make Up Forever’s Smokey Extravagent as well.
I don’t switch my mascara by season, or at all actually. But benefit They’re Real is the only mascara I’ve bought since it came out. I think I’ve finished six or more tubes by now.
I always use waterproof mascara, so I don’t change mine in the summer. Right now, my favorite mascara for daily use is Max Factor masterpiece waterproof mascara, although I’ve tested MAC In extreme dimensión mascara and I’ve fallen in love with it.
Thanks for reminding me about MAC Extreme Dimension. I got one in a set and keep forgetting to try it! 🙂
I love Diorshow waterproof but it’s a little heavy. I’ve been trying out Extended play Gigablack by M.A.C. and it’s a lighter formula but I don’t lose my waterproof quality. I like it so far!
To beat unbearable humidity, I’m trying Tom Ford Waterproof Extreme Mascara. Waterproof a must for me in any formula.
I don’t use a different mascara for summer – I don’t wear waterproof mascara in general – so it’s the same as usual: Lancôme Grandiôse.
I don’t change mascaras with seasons. My favorite mascara is Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes. I usually buy drug store, though. I’m using Pacifica Dream Big Mascara for the last couple months, and I really like it. I also love Physician’s Formula Sexy Booster Va-va-voom Volume and Sexy Booster Cat Eye Mascaras.
Want to try the Pacifica. They are well user reviewed on Ulta, and am in the market for a new brown, which they do.
I only use it for a night out, summer is just too sticky for me…
Dior or Better than Sex are my favs. Great, full coverage.
I wear Covergirl Lashblast, regardless of the seasons!
I have no Special Mascara for Summer. At the Moment I am still trying out new mascaras, have a Box Full of Mascaras to Test. And I am waiting for my Holy grail bare Minerals Flawless Definition volumizing Mascara to arrive from the USA.
BareMinerals Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara is awesome!!!
AGREE totally. That one was one of BE/BM’s best mascaras by far. It’s basically been discontinued in the US, so I guess they’re going overseas with that formula. Thev;ve come out with their new formula “Lash Domination” which was OK but their brush was way too big, so they have toned it down to make it into a PETEITE brush, which is much better.
Hi Carole, Sephora still has BareMinerals Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara – I just checked online. I haven’t bought it for awhile because I have some others I’ve been trying. I remember when I discovered the Flawless Definition Mascara and fell in love with it because it gave great definition (separating lashes nearly individually so they don’t stick together) and added some length, held a curl, wore great and came off easily. No clumps, no fallout or flakes. Anyway, one day I went into the BareMinerals store to pick one up and the SA asked me if I had ever tried the Volumizing one, and had me try it right then (she used a new one) while looking in the mirror, and I couldn’t believe it. My lashes doubled in volume right before my very eyes (ha!), and I was sold. It wore just as well as the original one too.
I have very sensitive eyes that are watery at times and I need a mascara that works with that. I have zero tolerance for smearing, smudging, running, flaking, clumping and I lean towards a more natural your eyelashes but better look. Granted with the Volumizing, and also Benefit’s Roller Lash which I’ve been using lately, they’re not quite as natural as the Flawless Definition, but I’m happy with both.
It doesn’t change seasonally. I start out with Maybelline’s Soft and Full and top it off with L’Oreal’s Telescopic – both in the darkest black.
don’t really go by season, just use what I like atm. I used to love the loreal voluminous false fibers, but then that got replaced by the tarte lights camera lashes, so I’m alternating between those two atm
Maybelline Great Lash…I have allergies and it is the only one that does not irritate my eyes, ever, even through allergy season.
Wow, that’s the one I am most allergic to! Anytime I have ever tried Great Lash, within hours I have huge swollen eyes. Doesn’t happen with any of the other Maybelline mascaras, but I avoid that little pink and green tube. Sad, because it’s supposed to be among the best 🙁
I wear the same mascara all year round. Currently I am loving Rimmel’s X Strength mascara.
Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lash with a final coat of Lancôme Hypnose Drama waterproof to keep smudging to a minimum.
No change; UD Perversion mascara. I seldom use waterproof, only weddings and funerals.
In the summer most people wear water proof mascara but I never do because it so bad for your lashes. If it is really hot I will just curl my lashes and just use a very little mascara which I tend to do anyway I like it to look natural. Sometimes I will go with out. I like Clinique & Dior. I have Tom Ford and Josie Maran which I haven’t tried as of yet. I think with mascara it is more in it not being old & dried out. The application is the most important I hate when you see the mascara and it is thick or clumpy.
Always lancome for mascara… Summers or otherwise. Love their mascaras.
I’m really liking Benefit Rollerlash right now. It darkens, defines, and lengthens without heaviness.
I don’t have a summer hg mascara or a winter hg, I didn’t know that such a thing exists! My hg mascara is Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black in waterproof.
I love Guerlain Maxi Lash too, only the waterproof certain version! I need that extra protection as most mascaras give me panda eyes no matter what I do.
I love L’Oréal.Voluminous in Carbon Black but it must doesn’t stay put. I did try the waterproof version of it but it didn’t give anywhere near the same amount of volume. I’ve also used the Clarin’s Fix’ Mascara over the top to seal my mascara and it works but the price is now even higher than it used to be and spending that on top of buying your mascara is really expensive. So I eventually tried the Guerlain mascara and I fell in love! It gives great volume, thickness and length despite being waterproof. And although it’s not cheap it’s still cheaper than what I was paying for the mascara and sealant.
On a side note, the best non-waterproof mascara I found that stayed put, at a reasonable price, was L’Oréal Telescopic (the one in the silver tube). So I’d definitely give that one a go if you aren’t sure where to start. ?
Hmmm, I was liking Tarte Gifted cause it does a little of everything but in a few weeks it dries up some and gets too heavy. I tend to go for volume over length so most mascaras feel a bit much in the heat. I should probably try a tubing mascara like Blinc.
I generally use the same mascaras year round. Right now I’m using either Too Faced Better than Sex or Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes. I also recently tried Marc Jacobs O!mega mascara and loved it so its probably going to be added to my permanent rotation
I don’t change my mascara in Summer. I did try a new one recently though because I am a klutz and seem to get it all over during application. It’s called Innisfree Skinny Microcara. It is much easier to apply due to the skinny brush. It gives good definition, doesn’t clump or run and gives decent length but not much volume.
That sounds very similar to It Cosmetics Tightline Mascara Primer. I really like it except when I first got it, it was pretty “wet” which made it smudgy on application, but since it has dried a little I like it a lot. The tiny diameter brush gives the appearance of tightlining since you can wiggle it into the base of your lashes, and then gives good definition, and maybe a small amount of length. I guess with “Primer” in the name it’s meant to also be used under a volumizing and/or lengthening mascara, but for every day, I often wear it by itself. It’s in my rotation. 🙂
