It is pretty, but I wouldn´t think of hot chocolate when I see it.
I have both Hot Chocolate and BITE Shiraz, but Hot Chocolate pulls more brown on me, while Shiraz more pink. but if I add a dusty pink lip liner to Hot Chocolate, I can get close to Shiraz, which is great since it’s been DC’d and my fave MLBB color.

Great to see UD Tampered and CP StingRAYE as dupes for this as I refuse to purchase anything from that Vibe Tribe Collection. Thank you for posting these equally lovely options, Christine!
I did get HC, but reframed my thoughts about the pkging. Basically, ’cause I love it. I think of it as a tribute to the actual design reference, bec it IS, to me. But it still gives me a moment to think about cultural appropriation in its many forms, like Asians ‘undoing’ their monolids or my pale Irish coworker sporting strawberry blond dreads. The MAC thing was just so crass, vulgar, and overtly disrespectful. Also about what cosmetic cos will do to sell product, what image the co wants to project (e.g. MAC charity orientation), etc. I think that the majority of cos live off their hype and current rep. MUG is a perfect example. They count on FOMO and that people will not be ‘critical’ of all aspects of their product (in the good sense.) and social media has tubers that ho out, gushing about complete dreck. (Am I culturally appropriating Yiddish, or is it ok, bec I am primarily German and from Newton, originally?). See, it’s everywhere.
Had stingraye on my radar, not realizing the dupe; wish I had gone there. Btw, didn’t I get a CP email with a discount? Check it out, Christine, et al. Interesting that this leans brown on Rachel. It’s about a 75-80 dupe of Rhubarb on me. Glad you can get a good and cheap dupe, Nancy.
Looks like urban Decay tempered has a better formula. Looks much better on the lips than Hot chocolate.
I agree with both posts above. That said, I am very fond of UD in general. I did like the UD lippy before reading the brands.
Hot Chocolate is waaaaay more brown in real life. I bought it based on your photos and was so disappointed in how it truly looks. I guess it lives up to the Hot Chocolate name.
Interesting – does that happen to you often? Because I just went back to it to double check, and it’s very rosy/plum, definitely not a true brown or anything on me.
It sort of makes my lips look bruised. It’s very odd.
Same here Rachel! I really love how beautiful it looks on so many people. I tried it on at the MAC counter and it was a hideous brown on me so I didn’t get it. I expected to see more plum in it.

I tried Hot Chocolate, after it was sold out everywhere, and I really liked how it looked, it looked browner on me, though. I will still check UD Tampered.
I’ve always thought brownis lipsticks looked awful on me, but this I liked, lesson learned, try everything immediately!

I completely regret purchasing Hot Chocolate from the Vibe Tribe collection (especially since MAC severely denied any form of inspiration from Native American culture/art!) How can you be inspired by Coachella and not know that Coachella was heavily influenced by Native American culture? haha. Anyway it’s a beautiful shade…I wish I bought Tampered by UD instead ):
It’s so interesting the way lipsticks looks so different on each person. I have Colorpop Stingraye and it looks way more brown and dark on my lips than yours. With that being said all of them look lovely on you Christine!
