Looks - How to Wear Color at the Beach
It’s rainy and gray outside, but it’s Hawaii, so I expect that to change soon enough. Hopefully it does, because we are scheduled to go on an air tour in a few hours! Yesterday, we went to Poipu beach, and since I knew it was a beachy day, I didn’t want to wear heavy makeup. I opted for a neutral wash with a lightly defined crease, and then I used Shade fluidline to add some color. FYI, I don’t get my head underwater (salt makes my eyes go crazyyy ALL day, so it’d just put me in a crabby mood if I did — so not worth it!). If I knew I was going underwater, I would have skipped most of the makeup routine!
Lasted pretty well, despite getting some heavy sheets of rain yesterday afternoon (luckily it didn’t last too long!). I, like a dope, didn’t remember to bring my waterproof mascara, though. BOO me.
Happy Sunday! Hope everybody gets some time to theirselves to relax today 🙂
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (creamy neutral base), Ricepaper eyeshadow (neutral beige), Smoke & Diamonds eyeshadow (warm silver), Bold & Brazen eyeshadow (coppery brown), Shimmermoss eyeshadow (teal), Blacktrack fluidline (black), Shade fluidline (forest green), Plushlash mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Suncentered Colour Forms Powder (soft peach)
- Lips: Fast Thrills lipstick (pink-coral), Cult Fave lipglass (pink)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Smoke & Diamonds = Silver Ring; Bold & Brazen = Twinks; Suncentered = Foolish Me; Fast Thrills = Bombshell; Cult Fave = Pinkarat
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. Apply Ricepaper eyeshadow all over lid and brow with the 239. Darken outer crease using Smoke & Diamonds eyeshadow with the 239. Deepen outer lid using Bold & Brazen eyeshadow lightly patted with the 239. Line upper lash line with Shade fluidline, and line lower lash line with Blacktrack fluidline. Layer Shimmermoss eyeshadow over Shade fluidline. Sweep apples of cheeks with Suncentered using the 129. Apply Fast Thrills lipstick to lips, and then top with Cult Fave lipglass for color and shine.
I’m a self proclaimed eyeshadow aficionado, and it’s definitely my favourite makeup item – but there is almost something fresh about seeing a neutral (or naked) eye with a nice line of colour. This looks so fresh. 🙂
Thanks for reminding me, and definitely much more beach savvy than a full eye. 🙂
Thanks, Nepenthe 🙂 I also find that if you’re pressed for time, sometimes colored liner is the answer!
so pretty!
Thanks, Danielle!
I looove teal for summer! I usually add it to my bottom lash line instead of black so its not so harsh. I might try it your way 🙂
Me too 🙂 What teal liner do you like to use, Sher?
Ooo this looks so pretty! I love your hair too! I like the teal. 🙂
Thanks so much, Lydia!
you totally rock the beach girl vibe in that look! gorgey pop of colour 🙂
Thanks, Jools 😉
O what I would do to be on the beach and in that beautiful water…. I’m melting here in TX!

Glad you had a chance to visit there 😀 I love the lava fields of the Big Island!
This looks really stunning on you! Impeccable line of teal!
Thanks, Rowan 😀
Thanks for this featurette, Christine! I go to the Toronto Islands a lot here (and some of our beaches) so this was very helpful. Also, I love how the look turned out too. Simple but also eye-catching because of the pop of colour. 😀 I reaaaaally want Shade now!
Sure thing, Skyler 🙂 Trying to figure out beach-friendly looks that aren’t no makeup is kind of fun and challenging!
This is a great look! Very summery yet neutral enough to wear to the beach…how did it hold on after the day at the beach?
Hey Betsy! Thanks so much 🙂 It worked out pretty well – looked about the same at the end of the day.
ooh! thats really really pretty! hope you have fun in hawaii! i’m so jealous lol
Thanks, Brittany! I’m having a great time 🙂
Awww you look so so pretty. Take lots of photos and enjoy yourself xoxox

You look beautiful, and so does that beach! The only beach I get to see is Galveston here in Texas, and it’s YUCKIE.. BUT.. take pictures!! and post them!! We all would like to see your vacation!
Thanks, Annie! I will for sure 🙂
Pretty!!!!
And when you go to the beach…. do you use make up? Maybe waterproof mascara and nothing else…? I need an advice to go to the beach and look perfect!!!
Thanks Christine, you look hot as allways!
Hi Aitana,
I wear makeup to the beach, but I don’t go underwater or go that deep into the water, so my face doesn’t get wet anyway. If I was going to get my face wet, though, I’d probably go for a very, very light face – waterproof mascara and maybe some tinted moisturizer.
This is so prtty! Love the teal!
Thanks, Gio! I’m lovin’ Shade fluidline right now!
Wow, Hawaii! That’s wonderful! I adore teal and this look was great. Thanks for showing us Christine!
Thanks so much, love 🙂
I would love to go to Hawaii when I am older! It’s stunning! x
I hope you get a chance to go, Shortiee!
Oh, I miss the morning showers. It usually clears up in the afternoon unless it’s winter when the big storms roll through.
Have a great time in Kauai.
Aw! Yes, luckily it cleared up for the most part by 1PM, just in time for our air tour!
oh yes, i love this! I love seeing neutral with a pop of colour for the liner! Thank God for Cream liners lol….they really aplpy smoothly, i prefer them to liquids. LOVE THIS CHRISTINE!
I love cream/gel liners, too! I find they’re so much easier to apply than liquid!
Thanks!
OMG!
This is going in my “Fave Looks” book!
It’s so simple, yet so edgy!
I LOVE IT!
P.S You look amazinggggggg!
Thank you, Sash!!
