I wish I could just keep all my makeup forever, but I’m a little bit of a germophobe, so…yes, I do throw away some old makeup every few months or so. I will usually throw away makeup if it’s over a year old, but that’s about it. And plus, it’s always an excuse to buy new products to replace the old ones!

Not as often as recommended. My wife is religious about throwing out her mascara after a month. That which she’s already used, anyway. I’m bad about keeping lipsticks too long, but I haven’t gotten sick from it yet. (Knock wood.)

I get rid of foundations, lipsticks/glosses and mascaras at regular intervals. Rarely get rid of eye shadows or pencils because of dates/time.

I’m better about getting rid of cream/liquid products – but I do go through and purge anything that’s really old or things I just don’t use/don’t work for me anymore.

I get rid of mascara every 6 months & everthing else(bar eyeshadow which I keep until i don’t use/like it anymore) by the time it says on the container e.g my mineral foundation is 24 months, cream blushes 12 ..

I try not to. If it’s make up I’m quite sure I won’t be using anymore, I hope to swap it off for something else on make up alley. But if it’s past its valid date, then yeah… definitely throwing it out whether it’s been used up or not. I don’t want bacteria all over my face! 🙂

Only mascara! When I usually toss it though it’s just because it’s ran out. I guess that’s every few months? I don’t use any liquid products or else I’d probabaly replace those too. I have two MAC lipglasses that smell a little funny but.. I don’t use them so I figure, why throw them away? Hahaha.

Mascara and once or twice a year I cull my lipsticks – you can tell when they’re off by the smell. Occasionally I’ll just throw out stuff I don’t use anymore.

I hate throwing stuff out. It feels like such a waste, but I do bring myself to chuck my mascara every 3-4 months… longer for everything else.

If it’s the sort of thing that might go sour, yes. If I realize it’s old, it’s probably VERY VERY old, because time totally flies.

Kella Avatar

I throw out makeup that I no longer use, makeup that’s almost gone and looks yucky, makeup that is old.. If it’s nice makeup, I give it to someone.

I just had a huge clean-up in my beauty products, so now I don’t have much left, but it’s everything I really use, I threw away lots of makeup that I know I’ll never use, so what’s the point of it just sitting there collecting dust, so to say.

Mascara every 3 months, I use mascara nearly every day so it dries out by then anyway so it’s cool. But that’s the only product I stick to by time.
None of my products have smelt funny or looked bad so I keep and use it but I have only started wearing make-up recently anyway so it’s cool.
My mum however keeps really old make-up but it’s in perfect condition so she still uses it!

Elaine Avatar

Mascara when its too dried out… but I don’t follow the 3 month rule, it goes when it makes my lashes look fugly. Also, make-up that hasn’t been touched for a really really long time and is just taking up storage space.

I only ever have thrown out Mascara, and only once it beginning to clump. I never follow those makeup rules… it’s rediculous to spend 30$ on a mascara every 3 months. While you DO run the risk of catching bacteria as long as you store it properly in a cool, dry place it’s such a low risk.

I used to have so much make-up. Until I threw alot of it out one day. I dont use as much anymore.I have more eyeshadows than anything. I keep my make-up pretty clean. I never seen any bugs or anything crawling in it. Lipsticks and mascara I throw out every couple months. Other than that my make-up is fine.
